Prompt 17 - Hospital AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 17, word count 995
CW- Cuts, Animal attack, Bite marks
Sirius stretched across the gurney, carefully holding his cup of coffee so he didn’t pour the scalding liquid down himself.
“Hey, James. How long have we been on shift?” He asked his equally prostrate best friend. James groaned as he lifted his arm to check his watch.
“8 hours.” He yawned. They were on the night shift, and the cases were either dull easy to diagnose stuff that could have waited for a GP in the morning or total calamities.
He raised his head to take a sip of his drink when his pager went off.
“Damn it,” He cursed as he dodged the liquid that came flying out of the cup. “That was close. I almost marred my beautiful face.”
“Come on, urgent call to A&E,” James told him, grabbing him and jogging down the hall.
The room was utter Bedlam. People were shouting at each other. A nurse was carrying a handful of bloody cloth to the hazardous waste bin. More nurses were fitting IVs and monitors to the patient lying still in the bed. Nurse Evans moved out of the way, and Sirius got his first glance at what they were working with.
In the bed lay a twenty-something young man. Who could have been quite good-looking but now had long gashes across his face, one of which sliced his face in half from the corner of his eye, across his nose and finishing just above his lip. Sirius sucked in a breath as he took it in.
“That’s not the worst of it.” Nurse Evans warned. Sirius glanced down as his eyes darted across the rest of his body. There were more slashing cuts, and the soft flesh of his waist and abdomen had huge puckered holes dotted about in stretched-out crescent arches.
“Are those bite marks?!” James exclaimed, moving closer to the man. Nurse Evans nodded.
“His back is all cut up, same as his front. Whatever attacked him got him good.” She sighed. “Poor man, he’s going to be in a lot of pain and shock when he wakes up.” She handed over his notes to James and busied herself cleaning the wounds.
Sirius couldn’t take his eyes off the man.
“Do these look like dog bites?” He questioned as his fingers ghosted above the damaged skin.
“They look too big but definitely canine. Wolf, maybe?” James screwed up his face as he tried to figure it out.
“There aren’t any wolves in Britain.” Sirius objected. “Where was he found?”
“Er, notes say in the car park next to the—oh, for crying out loud. Next to the woodland park.” James scanned the text.
“Still no wild wolves in Britain,” Sirius muttered, only half paying attention to James.
He grabbed some of the disinfection materials and helped Nurse Evans clean out the wounds. James began spouting off multiple tests he wanted to carry out and leaned over Sirius. Speaking quietly so only Sirius could hear him, he murmured.
“Be careful, yeah. I’ve seen that look before. Don’t get too invested.” Sirius shook his head.
“I’m a doctor, James, I care. That’s all it is.” He lied.
“Make sure it is,” James replied, knowing full well Sirius wasn’t telling the truth.
Nurse Pettigrew appeared with his camera and began documenting the wounds in case it was a police matter.
“Should I send these to a bite specialist?” He asked Sirius and James. James nodded.
“Yes, that way, we will know what we’re dealing with. Send a couple of the slashes as well. I swear they look like claw marks.” Nurse Pettigrew disappeared as quickly as he’d appeared after taking countless photos and only disturbing the cleaning once to get shots of the man’s back.
It took hours to get the man’s wounds cleaned and sutured. He’d had multiple scans, including a brain scan. To make sure he didn’t have a brain bleed. But he didn’t wake up. They weren’t worried yet. His body had sustained a lot of damage, and nothing in his scans showed any reason for him not to be conscious.
Sirius’s shift had ended hours ago, but he stayed sitting at the man’s side. James had tried to convince him to leave.
“Sirius, he’s a patient. You need to leave. Please don’t get overly attached to him. You don’t even know anything about him.”
“He’s all alone, James,” Sirius sighed. He already knew he was treading the line between a caring practitioner and becoming too personal with a patient. “No one has called looking for him. The police say no one matching his description has been reported missing. It’s been hours. How can no one be missing him?” James sighed at Sirius as he roughly ran his hand through his hair.
“I know, I know. Just be careful, Sirius.” He clapped his friend on the back and left him to it.
Sirius slept in the uncomfortable visitor’s chair. He kept waking up to check on his patient, but he was always asleep. Morning came, and one of the Nurses brought him breakfast and took the patient’s vitals. It wasn’t until the afternoon, a full 24 hours after he’d been brought in. The man’s eyelids fluttered. Sirius watched with bated breath as slowly, slowly, the man regained consciousness.
“It’s okay,” Sirius said in his most calming voice. “We think you’ve been attacked. You’ve got a lot of cuts, so I need you to keep still so you don’t rip any stitches. But you’re safe, and so far, no complications.” He realised he’d taken the man’s hand and promptly dropped it. “Sorry,” He mumbled under his breath. He watched the man wiggle his now free fingers. Sirius’s training finally kicked in.
“I’m Doctor Black, Sirius. Do you know what your name is?” He asked as he pressed the call button. The man thought for a second.
“Remus Lupin.” He said faintly.
“Well, it’s lovely to meet you, Remus Lupin.” Sirius smiled at him as Nurse Evans wandered in.

Click. Click. Clickclick-
Remus felt his agitation start to rise
Click. Clickcli-
His arm shoots out quickly and snatches the pen before he chucks it across the common room violently. He doesn't look up from his book even with the scandalized gasp and soft sound of the pen hitting the ground.
He turns the page and almost sighs in relief. His irritation slowly going away. Finally some peace and quiet.
Click.
His head whips to the side where Sirius holds another pen. He practically snarls as he slams his book shut, he looks at Sirius and crosses his arms.
"Sirius, for my sanity...what the fuck are you doing?" He hissss angrily
Sirius waves him off his finger drifting towards the back of the pen again. Remus latches onto his wrist and waits for Sirius to look at him. Sirius still looks out of it even as he slowly makes eye contact but he doesn't click the stupid pen again, so he counts it as a win.
"Spit it out or get rid of the pen." He gently takes the pen and shoves it in his robe pocket, now feeling concerned. What had Sirius so out of it?
"I just....do you think regulus has been seeing someone?" Sirius asks after a long period of silence. He stares at his hands and then to where Remus still holds him gently.
Remus let's go and sighs. He resists the urge to hex Sirius before taking a deep breath. He looks around the common room and doesn't see anyone who can take over this ridiculous conversation so he powers on. He shrugs nonchalantly, tries to figure out what he knows.
"why do you say that?"
Sirius shrugs and drums his fingers against the table in front of them. Remus twitches, his lips pursing together.
"Just..a feeling. He'd tell me if he was, wouldn't he?" He murmurs. He suddenly stills and whips his head towards Remus
"are you dating my brother!?"
It's such an absurd question, such a stupid silly thing to ask. Remus bursts into laughter, his stomach aches, he can barely breathe. By the time he's in tears he sees Sirius' put out look so he tries to calm down and take this seriously.
"Siri- Sirius please- what are you on about-" he shakes his head and wipes the tears from his eyes still grinning
"Lord no...no I'm not- what don't give me that look!" He exclaims
Sirius glowers at him and pouts, swiftly turning his body away from Remus in a childish way of saying 'im mad at you'.
"Did you want me to say yes!? Pads what is your problem?"
He turns towards Sirius with a raised eyebrow
"You said it as if he was gross! I thought you were best friends!"
Remus gaped at Sirius for a moment before pinching the bridge of his nose
"Pads...I can't believe I have to say this-" he takes a deep breath and exhales harshly
"I'm not attracted to your brother but he's still attractive...objectively."
Sirius scowls deeper and huffs
Remus thinks about jumping off the astronomy tower.
"now what's the problem?"
"Well...it's just weird you said he's attractive. He's younger than you and he's my brother!"
Remus' eye twitches
"One he's only a year younger and two he's of age- no wait- you were mad I didn't think he was attractive and now your mad I said he is?"
"Yes! Maybe I'll just go see prongs! He'd never be so terrible to me!"
Oh how wrong he was. Remus almost snorted, he watched as Sirius stomped out of the common room with fond eyes. He was irritated for sure but he was also highly amused.
Pulling out the map he quickly searches for James's name. He isn't surprised to see him far too close to one regulus black. Rolling his eyes he searches for Sirius and immediately chokes on a laugh
"Oh boy...that's not good."

University AU - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 264
"That's my seat." A voice made Remus look up from his phone.
A boy with long black hair, a leather jacket, and multiple tattoos towered over him.
Well- towered was a strong word. The boy was short. But he was standing and Remus was sitting, so...
"I don't see your name on it," Remus quipped, but with no real malice.
"Actually..." the boy grinned, gesturing to the desk attached to the seat. There, in the upper right corner, were the initials SOB.
"Son of a bitch?" Remus chuckled, raising his eyebrows.
"Sirius Orion Black," the boy laughed. "But if you knew my mum, you'd think the initials were as funny as I do."
Remus let out a snort. "Funny, but I'm not moving." Maybe he didn't want to, or maybe he was enjoying talking to Sirius. Or maybe both.
"Well. Then I expect payment, as it is my seat," Sirius shrugged, looking as if the situation was quite out of his hands.
"Payment?" Remus asked, a bit hesitant.
"Yes. In the form of your phone number," Sirius confirmed, smirking. "It's only fair, don't you think?"
Blushing only a tad, and quite proud of himself for keeping it together, Remus nodded, quickly putting his name and number in Sirius's phone. But before they could talk more, the Professor called the class to order, and Sirius reluctantly sat in one of the empty seats a few spaces behind him.
Ding!
Remus scrambled to silence his phone, but couldn't resist checking the message.
Unknown Number: Enjoy my seat, Remus 😘 I'm certainly enjoying the view from here.

Prompt 18 Neighbour AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 18, word count 991
Remus Lupin had one asset, and that was his parent’s house. It was in the middle of the Welsh countryside. It was a mile walk to the little village, and the only thing it had going for it was the barn. It was light and airy and smelled of wood.
Remus had spent a lot of time and effort converting it into a liveable space. The idea had been to sell it, but no one was interested in living so far away from the major cities. So, under the advice of his estate agent, he rented it out for short holidays.
So far, it had been quite lucrative. With the money he made from that and his own job, he could afford chocolate whenever he wanted.
The holiday season was coming, and he already had two weeks booked out. He tended to get a lot of city dwellers looking to get away from it all or families trying to get back to their roots.
He checked his emails one morning with a fresh cup of tea and a plate of crumpets. HE filtered out the junk and found an inquiry email in his barn folder. He opened it.
A man was looking to hire the barn for the full summer and all of September as well. He was looking at three months of solid booking. It was a shame he couldn’t offer it, having already booked those two weeks. And he refused to let down his other guests. He typed a reply stating as much. He got a reply back almost instantly, asking if there was somewhere he could pitch a small tent. Mr Black said he would gladly still pay full price while his other guests used the barn. Remus couldn’t believe what he was reading. It seemed too good to be true. He sent a couple of pictures of his personal garden. The views weren’t as good, but it would be sheltered from the worst of the wind, and he could use Remus’s garden furniture. Again, the reply was quick. The man agreed and said he hoped he wouldn’t be any bother.
Remus sent an invoice and got Mr Black to confirm he agreed to the price, and with the confirmation, he booked out the three months. He sat back with a pleased look on his face as he finished his crumpets. He just hoped that Mr Black would be a good neighbour as it was a long time to deal with a terrible guest.
July arrived, and with it, a sleek black motorbike and an equally sleek owner. Sirius, as he demanded to be called, settled in instantly. He played his music a little loudly, but as it was to Remus’s taste, he decided to enjoy it.
Remus found he quite enjoyed Sirius’s company, and they spent nearly every night in Remus’s garden drinking beers. Remus had even started making enough dinner for Sirius, though Sirius had told him he didn’t expect it but did appreciate it as he was useless at cooking.
It turned out that Sirius needed a break from his high-pressure job, which was why he’d come to Remus’s.
“I hate it. It’s been my life since my mother found out she was pregnant with me. They own the company now, but my brother and I run it. He’s so much better at it than I am, and I swear he’d have such an easier time at it if I quit.” Sirius had admitted to him one August afternoon.
“Then why don’t you quit?” Remus asked as though it were an obvious solution.
“Everything I own is tied up in the company. If I leave, I lose everything.” He shrugged. “My parents made sure it was that way after I went through a rebellious streak in my teenage years.”
“That’s terrible, Sirius. I wish I could help.” And Remus found he meant it.
“Don’t fret about it. I’ll muddle through.” Sirius beamed at him as he patted Remus’s leg. “Right, enough feeling sorry for myself. I’m off for a walk. Care to join me?” Remus couldn’t think of any reason not to, so he took the proffered hand, and they strolled towards the village.
Remus showed Sirius some of his favourite childhood haunts just off the beaten track, and they spent a wonderful afternoon in the thick foliage.
Soon, the first week came around when Sirius would have to sleep in his tent. And, of course, the worst storm to hit Wales in over a hundred years decided to arrive that night.
The trees were whipping back and forth, creaking and groaning. The fence surrounding Remus’s garden swayed dangerously. Remus refused to let Sirius stay out in this. He flung open the back door and yelled into the downpour.
“Sirius! Sirius!” A face popped out of the zippered entrance of the tent. “Get in here!” Sirius shook his head.
“I’m all good. Don’t fret.”
Lightning cut across the sky, lighting the dark ground with its answering thunder not far behind.
“Sirius, please! I won’t be able to sleep knowing you’re out here!”
Suddenly, Sirius was streaking across the lawn and ran straight into Remus’s arms, knocking the lanky man back a few steps. Lighting flashed across the sky again and then another and another. The last bolt hit the cherry blossom tree in Remus’s garden, and a huge branch fell off and crushed the tent Sirius had been in moments before.
“Yeah, probably a good call that Remus,” He joked. “Shall I put the kettle on?” Remus decided, not that he had much choice, that Sirius would be staying in his spare bedroom for the remainder of the two weeks. Maybe longer if the look Sirius was giving him meant what Remus thought it did. That night, they sat, snuggled up together on Remus’s tiny sofa in front of a roaring fire, sipping mugs of hot chocolate and listening to the storm wailing around them.

Sirius: would you still love me if-
Remus: yes.
Sirius: I didn't finish
Remus: I'd still love you if you were bald, if you were two inches tall, if you were a worm, if you were a dragon. I'd still love you even if you repeatedly woke me up at 3am to ask me if I'd still love you
Sirius: you would?
Remus: yes, but I also might kick you. Go to fucking sleep
