Apologies for the lack of posts. Between chasing a runaway donkey, training, building more stuff, and feeding, I've been just a smidgen busy. I thought I would give you a glimpse into feeding time! After an "eat till your belly busts" alfalfa buffet, all the Lovebugs get their special feed. 23lbs of feed, 9 buckets, 5 supplements, 2 medications, and some rice bran oil to top it all off! (Excuse the mess, I'm sure I'll find the time soon to tidy up 😂). All 9 Lovebugs are eating happily and one even received a special dessert. I purchased apple flavored boredom busting balls for Sarge's enjoyment ... Thank you so much for the donated halters Gayle! They were a life saver yesterday ❤🥰❤. We all made it home safely, thank you all for the well wishes. I will introduce our newest lovebugs soon. Not only did Gayle donate halters, lead ropes, and treats (all which were used yesterday), she also spoiled the tar out of Sarge by giving him a personal massage! Gayle is AMAZING at what she does and I absolutely recommend her if you ever need her services. Today was a very blessed Sunday! We had a wonderful volunteer come out and help me finish Levi's enclosure ❤ Levi seems to have a girlfriend 😆 At Annie. And we received a donation from a very generous woman off of our Amazon wish list. I almost cried when I saw it since it was our first. Meet Levi! Our newest rescue. He is a 10-12 yr old gelding with a hock injury that was picked up yesterday. I have a very sad Camo update. This morning I woke up and came onto the porch to see Camo laying down in the roundpen (it's always open when no one is training). I ran down barefoot thinking he had passed but he picked his head up. Seashell, the mini paint mare was laying next to him but promptly stood when I ran in there. I put a call into the vet. I made a shade for him and put water nearby. I went to feed everyone and came out to find Camo standing and he even came up, close to his usual spot, to eat. Camo has been moving slower and developed a limp the vet initially thought could be caused by his hoof. Until the vet arrived Camo was down more than up. His respirations were 56 laying down (normal for a horse is 12 to 20). The vet arrived this afternoon and determined that his heart failure was rapidly worsening and there was nothing we could do to reverse it. We both knew he was in pain, even with twice daily Banamine injections. The hard decision was made to humanely euthanize sweet old Camo 😭. It hit hardest when I went to feed everyone tonight and didn't need to make Camo's special "old man Ensure". Seashell seems quite lost so she's in with Annie and Dakota ❤. Unfortunately, Camo has begun to limp and is moving quite slowly today. This morning was the first time Camo didn't meet me at the "food door" for his breakfast. His right rear fetlock looks extremely swollen 😔. I have a call out to the vet. I may try Banamine to help with the pain and inflammation but I know that is only a bandaid to the real issue. I don't want him to suffer or become lame. Decisions such as these are tough. I'll keep everyone posted. 🐴❤ The vet just responded: "Wow I'm glad that hematoma reduced! I would definitely plan to give him banamine over the next few days. Looks like he may have some severe arthritis or soft tissue injury. Cold water hosing twice a day and banamine twice a day." Camo update!!!! I apologize for not updating sooner. Camo has been here for only 51 days and he is looking and acting great! He has gained about 150lbs total and now weighs roughly 890lbs. The first picture is a comparison between currently (top) and his first day here (bottom). The second picture is of before he came here (bottom) to currently (top). You can see he is gaining muscle and filling out so well. Annie's story continued ... This picture was taken on March 13th of this year, the day Annie came home ❤💕 She is very sweaty in this picture. The trip home was only 15 minutes but she may have been so nervous she sweat that much, I'm not sure. I'm certain she was possibly afraid of where she was being taken ... again. I recently learned that Annie was rescued from a kill pen before being brought to the barn I was helping out at. In an attempt to ease her into her new surroundings, I allowed Annie to just walk around, eat, and drink after being unloaded from the trailer (that's when I took this photo). Annie weighed roughly 800lbs when she came here. Flurry - The only one we know for certain is a genuine Taurus through and through. This fancy lady is a stubborn diva. The promise of doting and a pampering spa treatment is a must-have before Flurry graces you with her presence. While the other horses are out swimming, there is no way this pretty girl is getting in that yucky water, no sir! Flurry loves to be commented on her beauty while having her hair brushed. Farrier day is a spa day for this looker. Flurry knows she's a cutie and has used it to taunt Dakota, who is now totally in love with Flurry (sorry again Annie). Flurry dislikes getting dirty or being told what to do ... she is the queen diva after all.
