Do you think "Daphne is the one handling the budget" is at all a popular headcanon for the Mystery Gang?
I like the idea of Daphne pulling out some reading glasses to do the gang's bookkeeping in the shotgun seat on long drives. The bankrolling is definitely Daphne and Shaggy (they're the ones that come from money), but it's probably still a pretty limited amount of money to work with just based on how young they are.
I want to say that Shaggy's money is in some kind of trust until he's 25. Meanwhile, Daphne does have an allowance, which is pretty big since her parents know she's traveling and they may not approve of the company she keeps, but they DO want her to be safe... but it's not enough to just spend willy nilly, considering she's the bulk of the funds for four people and one dog.
Someone has to plan out what they spend on, like... food and hygiene. Trap supplies. Laundromat usage. The occasional motel night if the elements are making 'sleep in the van' a bad idea. Phone plans, depending on the era. Health insurance if their parents don't have them on-plan (depends on the year). Car insurance (legally required). The van is old enough to require maintenance and have a pretty crappy mpg, so the gas budget is pretty high. Yearly inspections and other "let's not get stopped by the cops" stuff. Vet visits (vaccinations, teeth cleaning) for Scooby. Medication for various chronic conditions they may have. Replacing Velma's glasses when they get broken or her prescription changes. Fred's hair gel, which I assume he has. Shaggy's weed stipend. So much sunscreen. Etc.
Like they do have homes to go back to in case they truly run out of money, but it's still a lot to cover, and emergencies on the road do happen.
Modern setting Daphne just does an accounting course online and gets a CPA degree all in service of: 1. Managing the team's money 2. Catching bad guys via audit
(I'd suggest a correspondence course for an older setting but they're always on the move so idk how effective that would be.)

On this exact day 5 years ago, I was in this same location ensconced by the towering mountains with an overlooking view of a calm, seemingly waveless ocean in the pre-summer blistering heat in San Antonio, Zambales. This time I get to come back with my OG friends slash Zamboanga childhood homies, my friend Karen Blaise who's now based in Clark, Pampanga, and my CPA Lawyer friend Abegail from Dumaguete. After countless discussions of reunions and "travel goals" with some of the important people that we know, and 99% of those plans that never came to fruition, we decided that we would make this outdoor camp happen, and thank God we finally made it happen.
Tumblr media
I felt like that 2D1N camping trip was surprisingly one of the longest weekends I had this year. Having to disconnect from our phones for a while because the camping site had no service was the perfect setting for us to reminisce about our adolescent and high school classic moments and teenage angst and how those unforgettable stories from our past (and sometimes politically incorrect moments lol) shaped the people we are today professionally and personally. We had a great time recounting all the crazy stories we had more than a decade ago, planned future travels, played frisbee in the middle of the night, and went hiking after sunrise breathing the cold pre-summer wind overlooking the almost CGI-looking mountains in Zambales. My belief of having this type of "disconnecting" was further reinforced from this trip that, as much as I want so much social interaction with a lot of people, I also like to be alone with the few people I truly trust, and that being alone doesn't have to be lonely and solitude is actually a good thing.
Being on the road while listening to Kacey Musgrave's Deeper Well album (shoutout to Track 6 Sway as my favorite track off the record) revealed so many truths about my current situation and the things I'm dealing with in my personal life, both good and bad, and how I strive to find peace in accepting the pain and the lessons it has taught me, and that I've already arrived in my final destination on some certain aspects of my relationships especially with the people that I love, and that I need to move on.
My Saturn has returned.

The CPA and SSA- Part One
part one part two part three
Aaron Hotchner x Accountant! reader
Summary- The case they're currently working on has gotten bad, the unsub has been stalking the team and they need a safe place to stay. Luckily, Aaron has a girlfriend in Alexandria that he has yet to tell the team about.
Contents/ warnings; description of cases, a little bit of hurt/comfort, established relationship, just overall kinda fluffy and sweet :)
AN: I want to get back into writing and this is one of those maladaptive daydreams I use to fall asleep <33. I just love the idea of Aaron dating someone super stable and having a domestic little life. this is probably gonna be a 3 part series :)
Also if you're anything like me you love Zillow, this is the house I'm kinda basing this off of
Send me asks and requests! im happy to do blurbs on characters from CM and MCU :)
Tumblr media
The team was split up into two SUVs. In the first, Aaron, Spencer, and Derek. The second, David, JJ, and Emily. Hotch furrowed his brows, weighing his options of where to take the team to be safe. They were all sleep deprived and hungry. He ran through the scenarios of a hotel, motel, cabin, safe house.
Finally, he thought of your place. The cozy mismatched furniture, the smell of spices always radiating, the music always quietly playing in the background. He let out a huff and glanced at Reid in the front seat, who called shotgun much to Derek’s dismay,  before looking back at the road “Spencer, grab my phone and call the most recent number.” Spencer gave him a confused look, but obeyed the order. “Hey- uh, who's-” he was interrupted by a voice coming through the car speaker
It was a rather calm evening at your house. You knew that Aaron was caught up with a case and weren't expecting to hear from him for a while. Putting on some classical music, you poured yourself a glass of red wine and began to cook dinner. Heating up the frozen Tikka Masala sauce you stored in your freezer for lazy evenings like these, you began to chop up some chicken to put in the sauce when your music got paused by an incoming call.
You walked over and struggled to answer it with your elbow, so as to not contaminate your phone. Shocked to see Aaron as the Caller ID, you say “wait one second, honey bun, lemme put you on speaker my hands are covered in chicken” you let out a giggle as you finally were able to select the right button on the screen.
“Hey, sorry to call you out of the blue.” He stated, in a serious tone you'd only heard him use when he was called in for a case “Is everything alright, honey? You can always call me, you know that.” you frowned at the phone, going back to cutting up the chicken. “We -uh need somewhere to lay low, just the night is fine. You can say no, but” he looked through the rearview mirror at both Derek and Spencer.
His shoulders relaxed and his voice softened to the Aaron that you're used to “I miss you. I really need to see you” He sighed “Reid, text the rest of the team that we are going to Alexandria.” Spencer gave a curt nod and pulled out his own phone, texting JJ.
“Have y'all eaten yet?” You asked simply, like this was every other time he called you driving home from work. Like your heart wasn’t gonna beat out of your chest at the idea of him being in immediate danger
“What?” He asked, shocked at your casual response.
“Have y'all eaten? I'm making food and I need to know if I have to make more.” You said, washing your hands and pulling out the rest of the chicken breasts you had. He smiled at the console “No, love. We haven't. nothing sounds better than your cooking. What're you making?” Derek and Reid gave each other wide-eyed looks.
“Jus’ some chicken curry, rice and I'll heat up some of that naan I made with Jack. You better watch out, he's getting to be a better cook than you” You sneered playfully as you did the math in your head over how many cups of rice you needed to feed six starving FBI agents.
He chuckled “I believe you. I was never any good in the kitchen. We'll be there in about 20 minutes, alright?” You squinted at the phone then sighed “yeah that's fine, it won't be done as soon as you get here, but you won't have to wait too long after. Next time you're getting hunted by a serial killer, give me a heads-up so I can cook a fancier meal for your colleagues. You're lucky I haven't changed into my pajamas yet, Mr. Hotchner.”
“That's fine, thank you again, Honey. I promise I will. I love you” He said, grimacing in preparation for the stampede of questions heading his way “I love you too, darling. I'll see you in 20.” You said, starting to rush in order to have dinner ready. He hung up and was surprised by the silence.
“Okay. I know you're dying to ask about her. Go ahead.” His signature frown sank back into his face. Derek smirked and crossed his arms “Nah. I’ll wait until Rossi, Prentiss, and JJ find out. Plus, I have a feeling that your girl is a lot more open” he grinned. Aaron shot him a stern look “I'm regretting this.” His shoulder crept their way back up into their usual tense position.
You heard a loud knock on the door, frazzled by the sudden noise while caught up in the chaos of cooking, you walked towards it hesitantly. You looked through the peephole to see Aaron staring at the door and the other five agents looking at your house, no doubt profiling you off of it. You opened the door with a wide smile, giving Aaron a small kiss on the cheek as you were unsure how affectionate he wanted to be in front of his coworkers.
He wrapped his arms around you tightly before placing a kiss on your forehead and letting you go “Thank you again, really. This is the team, Dr. Reid, Morgan, Prentiss, Rossi, and JJ.” He motioned to each of them then moved inside and hung up his jacket like he always did. “Go stir the curry and check on the rice! I don't want it burning I'm not going out to get more food tonight!”
You looked away from him and at the rest of the team who were standing on your porch like deer in headlights. You tilted your head and flashed the same wide smile “Please, come in. Make yourselves at home. Dinner will be ready in about ten minutes.” You watched them as they walked in and looked at each other, then the rest of your home. The older gentleman who you assumed was Rossi spoke up first “How long have you been seeing each other?” You shrugged, leading them into the living room
“about three-ish years now. Aaron told me what had happened to- you know. He didn't want to risk anything like that happening again. Which is why I'm shocked that he brought you here. It must be bad, isn't it?” You sighed, sitting on the armrest of a chair and looking at all of their faces
“It's certainly not pretty. ” JJ said, sitting on the couch across from you. You nodded “relax, don't think about it anymore. I’ll go make sure your boss isn't burning down my house.” You gave them a tight-lipped smile and walked into the kitchen. Staying in the doorway, you watched Aaron tend to the food. His sleeves rolled up to his elbows and his tie was tossed on the breakfast table. You walked up to him and wrapped your arms around his torso, placing your cheek against his back “you shoulda given ‘em a heads up. They're lookin at me like I'm a fish that grew legs” you laughed, letting go of him to grab bowls to put the food in.
“Yeah, I'm sorry. I wanted to introduce you to them in a better way, but if we weren't here we’d be at a hotel and I don't think any of us would've been able to sleep. Your house is just so. Comforting. I like it better here than in my apartment. Jack does too.” You grinned at the plate “which one of them, are we gonna put in Jack's room here?” You asked
“Whoever asks the most inappropriate question.” He states in his usual, monotone voice. You gathered all of the spoons into the stack of bowls and began to carefully walk to the dining room, pausing for a moment to bask in the domesticity of it all. Aaron cooking, his friends coming over after work. If he wasn’t being hunted down, it would be perfect.
You set the table and walked back to the kitchen where you see Aaron fanning a pan with a dish towel. “Oh good lord, move, agent” you laughed, pushing past him to get to the stove as you turned it off and threw whatever was left of the burned piece of naan out the back door so as to not set off the fire alarm. You huffed and set the pan in the sink, looking at him with a hand on your hip.
He looked like a guilty puppy, head down, but his eyes looking up to meet yours. You bit back and smile, shaking your head “I don't know how you've gotten this far in life, Aaron. Truly.” You say, closing the distance between you too, and pressing a kiss to his temple. He hummed “I have you to take care of me” a grin broke out across your face as you placed a hand on his chest.
You heard hushed whispering and shuffling of feet before you looked at the doorway and saw the entire team trying to fit in the cramped space to see after-work Aaron that you're accustomed to. Laughter bubbled out of you as you watched them bicker like siblings. “Who are you and what have you done with Hotch?” Emily asked, wagging a finger at you playfully. “It's like watching a feral cat be domesticated” Spencer muttered to JJ. you held your hands up in surrender.  “I didn't do anything! Now all of you are sitting at the table, dinner is almost ready.” You shooed them toward the dining room
A knock at the door startled the both of you. You looked at him and motioned him to stay where he was, stepping on his foot to keep it from moving as you bent down and pulled the gun from his ankle. You took off the safety and held it behind your back. You looked through the peephole at an eccentrically dressed blonde woman. You cocked the gun and opened the door with a smile “Hi, Can I help you?” You asked, watching as she looked over your shoulder “Yeah, I'm looking for my team” she said “this is the address Morgan sent me”
You heard footsteps coming behind you and putting the safety back on the gun “Down, girl.” He mumbled, putting a hand on your lower back “Yes, Garcia. Come in." Aaron said, taking the gun back and putting it back in the holster “This is Penelope, our technical analyst.” Penelope grinned widely at you “oh hotch, you big softie. I can't believe you managed to keep her from me! Everyone else I get but me? I'm impressed” she said, walking in. You shook your head and smiled at the ground “the rest of 'em are in the dining room, you can join them I'm just about to bring the food out.”
You looked at Aaron and grinned “I like your team” he scoffed “Yeah, until they start grilling you.”

What’s this? Another silly AU? (Please note silly does not mean this is gonna be angst free). Modern AU, Upside Down Events still happen, but I’m unsure if I wanna keep the deaths.
This now has a name: Learning to be Loved
It takes everything inside Tommy to not pull over on the side of the road and throw up. He left this town as quickly as he could. Wanted nothing to do with it, with the constant death, with his father and brothers. Leaving his mother, leaving the little plot of land where his sister sleeps was a blow to the gut but he needed to go. His hands tighten on the steering wheel, he ran because Hawkins would have been his death. And now here he is running back.
Ten years older and thousands in debt thanks to a degree he never even got to finish. Still, his eyes flick back to the three little girls sleeping in their seats, it wasn’t all bad. Sure Lloyd was probably the worst Alpha Tommy could have let knock him up, he was everything Tommy hated he had become in high school, but he had treated Tommy right at the start. He treated Tommy like an equal instead of the way most Alphas did here in Hawkins. They’d spent three years dancing around each other, two of them Tommy spent fixing all the shit in his head… okay, not all. Up until he fled he’d had a therapist visit every other Wednesday, but most of it. He recognized that painting ‘Nancy the Slut Wheeler’ was a shit thing to do, that spreading rumors that could get them hurt in their small, often backward ass, town was a morally indefensible thing to do. He’s grown. Has had to grow. He has children to raise and an Alpha who showed his true colors the moment Tommy got pregnant. Raging and throwing things, breaking things before turning toward Tommy. The baby couldn’t be his. He wouldn’t raise the bastard.
Only when the twins were born, a week and a half early Lloyd had come crawling back. Begging to be part of their lives. And like a fool Tommy had said yes. Carol’s parents had divorced and while her dad was amazing he hadn’t known what or how to raise two kids on his own. And if Barty couldn’t do it, how could Tommy?? He stayed too long. Let Lloyd stay too long. Muscle memory has him almost turning onto Loch Lora before remembering that Steve doesn’t live there anymore.
“Daddy? Where are we?” Bellamy asks, her big brown eyes looking around.
She has his eyes but Tommy likes to think she got the brown from Steve. That there was a tangible connection between them. He’s pulled over, car idling as he digs out his phone. Can’t stay here long, the neighbors get pissy, but he needs to look up Steve’s address. Dr Marnie would be disappointed in him, dropping by an old ex friend’s house unannounced. But even when they were on the outs Steve looked out for him. The pact made between Omegas never weakened.
“We’re in Hawkins, babydoll, daddy’s just gotten a little turned around is all.”
Plus Steve’s facebook profile is public for the world to see. Complete with address and place of employment. Steve’s a teacher nowadays. Tommy hadn’t dared look further than that. Didn’t have the right to, which makes just as little sense now as it did when he mentioned that to Dr Marnie. He’d done the same to Carol. Looked at that little About section, only addresses and place of work. Needed to see how they were doing. Carol is an accountant, or maybe a CPA, not that Tommy knows what the fuck that means. Finding the address he gets to driving.
It doesn’t take long to get the quaint little house. The outside is painted a cheery yellow the neighbors must hate or love. There are toys in the yard. This is it. He takes a deep breath, steps out of his shitty second hand car that barely fits his three daughters and all he packed for them, and starts the process of unloading the girls. They gather close around him, nervous about the new environment. Together the little family approaches the round green door. Knocks.
“Heya, Steve.”

Time has a way of slipping through our fingers, doesn't it? It feels like moments ago I was standing in middle of the road with two different directions, trying to decide which path I should take in college. I knew I wasn't suited for medical fields and complex math solvings. Accountancy was a whole new experience for me. I had no idea of the journey that lay ahead, we all are. It became an unexpected adventure, full of doubts, and tribulations. It tested me in ways I never imagined, pushing me to the brink of giving up. Each night was a battle against doubts and endless "what ifs." There were nights where I cried out of sheer frustration, overwhelmed as I struggled to comprehend what I was studying.
Yet, in those hardest moments, I found solace in faith. God's grace guided me through, and I passed the final stage of the retention policy. Despite my worries about how my future will unfold, I kept pushing through. I survived.
Congratulations to my friends and classmates who passed. And to those who didn't, remember that you're not a failure, just redirected. I am still proud of you, regardless. We did it. One more year and we'll soon get that CPA title.
With hope,
S.T, CPA (year 2xxx)

Continuing to play through the new Penacony patch, maybe I'll finish up tomorrow after CPA exam cramming. The minibosses en route to the final boss are so annoying. Anyways, spoilers follow and I'll put translations into alt text. The Sunday vs Robin debate is just so interesting to me.
Also, I'm on team "would rather buy merch than in-app purchases" but got Robin! Idk how to actually play her yet but that's an issue for later! Anyways.
Tumblr media
Yeah, so her elder brother is my favorite antagonist in this game so far. He's proposing something utterly disgusting, out of his savior's complex that imo kicked into overdrive after she almost died. But it was probably showing blatantly enough to her for a while before that, hence mail that was described as "pleasantries".
On its face, I understand the impulse of obsessively wanting to protect your sibling. They're your whole world, but at some point, they start to make their own choices. You might not understand them (like my little bro's interest in compsci) but if they're not hurting anyone, I think you should respect them.
So I get the horror of finding out little sis went out to a warzone to provide humanitarian aid and caught a stray. But this was ultimately her decision.
My personal take is that repressing free will is dictatorial behavior. I don't care about the "strong protecting the weak" excuse. And it was particularly dirty to start the dilemma game with the "hatchling" story, as that one really panders to this line of thinking imo.
Tumblr media
In this case, I really do think that taking the wildlife to a rehabber is fine. And I suppose the Family would have enough resources to get the bird consistent veterinary care and everything else it needs. But this is still an animal, and we are talking about dilemmas involving free will of those who can talk and explain their thoughts to others. It's like one of those "appeal to emotion" arguments my history teacher warned about.
The man in the second dilemma deserved to get turned in right away. He's a monster.
Tumblr media
I never considered anything but the "support" option for Robin's choice, but still had the lead speak with the party members, as to decide without consulting is some Sunday behavior.
And with that, we get the monologue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, he went full Social Darwinist. There is no other description for a rhetoric that assumes that the strong should decide the happy life for the weak, particularly when he fails to provide a definition for his two categories. It comes off particularly heinously because this is a planet inspired by 1920's US, I suppose.
The party would need to track down Welt to answer his questions because I mean, some of the anti-equal suffrage comics we saw in history class sure were following that "women and ethnic and racial minorities don't know what's good for them" thinking. Also, man really bandied about this ideology in front of someone who would be stuck in a sanatorium back then.
For your consideration:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so, it makes sense for Firefly in particular to tear this unholy lovechild of Social Darwinism and Messiah Complex a new one. Because ultimately, escaping from the flaws of free will is not going to address any of the issues. Yeah, sure, stay awake to power the Matrix where no one is terrible, but what happens when you croak due to sleep deprivation? Everyone goes back to failing in the same, or new and horrible ways! Or dies if the unplugging goes badly!
So yeah, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Milk and Green Apple for Penelope
(for this ask game)
Since we haven't introduced Penelope yet, as is standard, we'll do a quick write-up here. Penelope is a Galápagos fur seal (Arctocephalus galapagoensis). She's an accountant who works at a bank located in a tundra which primarily caters towards terrestrial animals. Though she doesn't particularly like her job, and initially picked this posting because it was the best option available to her during her CPA experience program, she sort of... got stuck.
Finding work is difficult. She was lucky enough to get rehired by the same branch after finishing her work experience program, but she can't really find anywhere else willing to hire her right now, and her branch is hesitant to let her go, considering that she's one of the most competent people available to her department. She can't really quit, but she can't really move forward, either, so she's sort of... stuck in limbo.
She's well-paid enough that she can live relatively comfortably, but she was at least partially a diversity hire to begin with, and the place she lives in now just plain isn't made for her. She's an aquatic species in a relatively dry area, and most of the species that her branch caters to are smaller prey species - hares, kea, and lemmings, and the occasional arctic fox. Most of the infrastructure is built for people half her size or more, and being an aquatic species, she's not really built to be living terrestrially 24/7 - wearing glasses is all well and good until your prescription breaks and the best replacement pair you can find is built for a stoat, and sure, she can afford a doctor if anything comes up, but no one in her area would really know much about her species, and can she really afford the time and effort added to the expenses of flying to somewhere else entirely just to see a specialist?
As is, she feels just... stuck. She handles it, mostly, with a mix of "gritting her teeth and bearing it" and "heading out to a nearby city which actually has infrastructure for anything bigger than a fox". She sort of has to make a Day of it every time she travels out, but it's better than staying in the same town all day, and paying a bit extra for a night out isn't *too* bad, all things considered. The situation, as is, is perfectly fine. She just... wishes that she could make something of her life beyond being stagnant in a town that she expected to just be a stop in the road.
🥛 [MILK] What is your OC's relationship with their biological parents like? What about their relationship with any non-biological parental figures?
Well... it's complicated. She doesn't have a bad relationship with them, per se, but it's a bit distant - she moved to an entirely different part of the world to take this job, and most of her communication with family members is by video call and similar things as a result. She cares for her family, and she wouldn't trade them for the world, really - but they expect a lot from her, and she's been stuck at the same place long enough that she's not sure she can live up to it.
Penelope sits in the awkward sort of space where she was academically successful, but that success didn't really transfer to almost anything else. She's got a job, she's good at it, she's got a degree - but she still can't get a job besides the one she's been stuck in for years already, and "still working at the same bank" isn't the sort of thing that feels good to say, especially when you've been in the same place for far longer than you've ever wanted to be.
Her parents love her. Her mother still holds out faith that she'll get that one promotion - just a few more years and you'll get your big break, just a bit more work and they'll notice how industrious you are, just a tiny bit more effort and you'll get a better position - but you can only believe something so much when you feel like you've been stuck in the same rut for so long. There's only so much you can hear about how you have so much potential before you start feeling like you're wasting yourself, and at this point... having the same things repeated starts feeling a bit like every day she doesn't get that break is a day she's wasting her potential.
She does not currently have any non-biological parental figures. Probably a bit late in her life to get one, but who knows at this point, honestly?
🍏 [GREEN APPLE] How do they differ from the norm and how are they punished for it?
...there's a lot.
Though her workplace tried to provide accomodations when she first arrived, it's been more than eight years, and nowadays she has to do most of her accomodation herself. Her eyes aren't really made to focus above water, she's got a very different body plan than most people at the branch, she's a predator big enough to make most of the other folks in her branch a bit instinctually nervous, and being one of the only seals that most people know means that she's been re-introduced to the same three harbor seals entirely too many times by now.
People don't really make chairs for people with tails the size of their bodies around here, which means that chair backs that accomodate her are generally a matter of either custom order or hoping that she's going somewhere that's dealt with one of the other half-dozen folks with the same needs.
Penelope is, fundamentally, Not From Around Here. She's not a species that's found around here, she's not a species that's especially adapted for here, and despite being a seal that's only around a metre long she still towers over most of the people at her branch. The closest person to her size is an arctic fox in the tax department, and he still doesn't really have the same sort of experience as her. She doesn't fit The Norm, pretty much in any way, and it... really, really shows.
#asks#we speak#ocs#penelope#we took a while to answer this but anyways heres penelope she works at a bank#and then on weekends she goes to the city to get drunk off her ass and try to forget the overwhelming dread of stagnation#top ten women to expose gaps in your accessibility just by going to your place#she goes to like the same bar every time she goes Out On The Town because its the one bar that another seal works at#and theyre usually pretty good with being Not Awful because of it#anyways the most vital info about her is that she very much needs glasses but she doesnt wear them unless shes at work#the fun thing about seeing other people's ocs is that we'll see so many people making characters who are like#Important. Powerful. Cool. shit like that. and then we are here with our characters like “yeah shes an accountant”#“she feels really stuck in life and like she cant live up to the standards of her family”#“also she has to special-order chair backs bc her tail is the size of her entire torso and no one accommodates for that here”#anthro#we guess#thanks for your patience btw! we spent. way too long figuring out how to summarize her#in case youre wondering she is also struggling with a mid-life sexuality crisis just as a treat for Us Writing Her#for fun. and profit. and also being at that age where she was supposed to have settled down with a nice boy already#and now her mother is dropping increasingly obvious “you know its okay if you have something you need to tell us penelope”#“if there are any special girls in your life that you might want to bring home-”#and she lives halfway across the world and isnt dating anyone or even sure that shes on the dating market anymore#problems disease and etc. this post is over 1000 words already we'll cut it off here

A Guide to Dealing with Back Taxes
Tumblr media
Handling back taxes requires understanding the procedure, enabling you to negotiate this problematic circumstance more successfully. Ignoring unpaid taxes from past years - back taxes - may have dire results, including fines, interest, and maybe legal action.
First, examine prior tax returns - letters from state or federal tax authorities can help you see your tax obligation. If you are unsure about the precise amount, using their web resources or personally calling the IRS will help clear things up. Before starting any repayment schedule, you must grasp your debt precisely.
Once you understand your debt, examine the repayment options. The IRS runs various initiatives to assist consumers with debt settlement. Establishing an installment arrangement lets you pay your back taxes over time in smaller, more manageable sums. If you can commit to monthly payments but cannot pay the entire cost ahead, this plan can help.
An Offer in Compromise (OIC) is another choice; it lets you pay off your tax obligation for less than the amount owed, provided you satisfy specific requirements. The IRS will assess your income, ability to pay, costs, and asset equity to determine your eligibility. Although turning in an OIC can be a complicated procedure requiring thorough financial paperwork, it will significantly lower your total tax load if approved.
For people going through temporary financial difficulty, asking for a little delay in the collecting procedure might be reasonable. If you show that paying your tax obligation will keep you from meeting essential living expenditures, the IRS could label your account "currently not collectible." Although it's not a permanent fix, this status might offer some respite while you work on stabilizing your finances.
Dealing with past taxes also depends critically on filing overdue tax returns. File your taxes to help reduce further penalties even if you cannot pay the entire amount owing. Often more severe than the failure-to-pay penalty, the IRS levies a failure-to-file penalty. Filing all past-due taxes will assist in lowering these additional fees and show your eagerness to fix your tax problems.
Dealing with overdue taxes might benefit from expert help. Certified public accountants (CPAs) or tax lawyers are among the tax specialists who may provide insightful counsel catered to your particular circumstances. They can assist you in bargaining with the IRS, make sure you investigate all of your choices, and walk you through the documentation-submitting procedure. Knowing that seasoned people are managing your matter gives you peace of mind, which professional help may offer.
Furthermore, it is crucial to know the effects of neglecting past taxes. Ignoring unpaid taxes might lead the IRS to take many enforcement steps, including tax liens, wage garnishments, and bank levies. These activities improve your credit score and financial stability. Early resolution of your past taxes can help you escape these harsh penalties and direct your efforts toward more under-control debt resolution.
Apart from handling present back taxes, it is essential to use policies to avert upcoming tax problems. Maintaining orderly records, saving money for taxes, and keeping current with tax regulations and deadlines may assist you in preventing falling behind on your taxes. Long-term financial stability and health can benefit from developing solid tax practices and consulting experts regularly.
Dealing with back taxes calls for a complete strategy, including knowledge of your tax liability, investigation of repayment choices, submission of late returns, expert advice, and avoidance of future tax problems. Addressing back taxes early on can minimize the effects and offer a better road toward financial security. Although the procedure might appear daunting, acting with knowledge will help to provide a more controllable and less demanding answer.

Tax Strategies For New Truck Drivers
Tumblr media
Starting out as a new truck driver involves understanding not just the logistics of the job but also the tax implications that come with it. Implementing effective tax strategies can help minimize tax liability and maximize take-home pay. Here are essential tax strategies for new truck drivers:
1. Understand Per Diem Deductions
One of the significant tax advantages for truck drivers is per diem deductions. Per diem allowances are payments made to cover daily expenses like meals and incidental expenses while away from home overnight. The IRS allows truck drivers to deduct per diem expenses from their taxable income, reducing overall tax liability.
Standard Meal Allowance: Use the IRS standard meal allowance, which is a simplified method for calculating per diem deductions. For 2024, the standard meal allowance is $69 per day for most locations.
Special Transportation Industry Rate: Truck drivers are eligible for a higher per diem rate due to the nature of their work. This rate covers meals and incidental expenses incurred while on the road.
2. Keep Detailed Records
Maintaining accurate records is crucial for claiming deductions and ensuring compliance with IRS requirements. As a truck driver, keep detailed logs of:
Mileage: Document all miles driven for business purposes versus personal use.
Expenses: Save receipts for fuel, tolls, repairs, maintenance, truck lease or purchase payments, insurance premiums, and other business-related expenses.
Per Diem Expenses: Record expenses for meals and lodging while away from home overnight.
3. Maximize Deductions for Trucking Expenses
Take advantage of deductions specific to the trucking industry to reduce taxable income:
Vehicle Expenses: Deduct expenses related to operating your truck, including fuel costs, maintenance and repairs, truck washes, and depreciation if you own the truck.
Home Office Deduction: If you have a designated area at home used exclusively for administrative tasks related to your trucking business, you may be eligible to deduct a portion of home expenses like rent, utilities, and internet.
4. Consider Equipment and Uniform Costs
Truck drivers often incur expenses for equipment and uniforms necessary for their job. These expenses can be deductible:
Uniforms: Cost of purchasing and maintaining uniforms required for work.
Tools and Equipment: Expenses for purchasing and maintaining tools or equipment used in trucking operations.
5. Plan for Self-Employment Taxes
Many truck drivers operate as independent contractors or owner-operators, which means they are responsible for paying self-employment taxes in addition to income taxes. Self-employment taxes cover Social Security and Medicare contributions.
Quarterly Estimated Taxes: Make quarterly estimated tax payments to avoid penalties for underpayment. Use Form 1040-ES to calculate and submit payments to the IRS.
6. Consult with a Tax Professional
Given the complexity of tax laws and deductions specific to truck drivers, consulting with a qualified tax professional is highly recommended. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) specializing in trucking industry taxes can provide tailored advice, maximize deductions, and ensure compliance with IRS regulations.
7. Stay Informed About Tax Law Changes
Tax laws and regulations change frequently, impacting deductions and credits available to truck drivers. Stay informed about updates relevant to your profession to optimize tax planning strategies:
IRS Publications: Regularly review IRS publications and guidelines relevant to trucking industry deductions and tax responsibilities.
Professional Associations: Join trucking industry associations that provide updates on tax laws and advocate for truck drivers’ tax interests.
Conclusion
Implementing these tax strategies can help new truck drivers optimize their tax situation, reduce tax liability, and ensure compliance with IRS requirements. By keeping detailed records, maximizing deductions for trucking expenses, and staying informed about tax law changes, truck drivers can effectively manage their tax obligations and maximize their take-home pay. Consulting with a tax preparer for truck drivers specializing in the trucking industry can provide additional guidance and peace of mind in navigating tax complexities.
