Die Another Day was released on November 22, 2002. The movie was the 20th EON James Bond film, 40th anniversary of the Eon Bond films, the last Bond film to feature Pierce Brosnan as Bond, and the first EON Bond film not to feature Desmond Llewelyn as Q since Live and Let Die (Llewelyn had died and John Cleese's character was promoted to Q). The movie was a financial success, but a critical failure. There were plans to use it as pilot for a spin off franchise for the new character Jinx played by Halle Berry, but nothing ever came of it. The movie also marked the last time Samantha Bond played Moneypenny. ("Die Another Day" James Bond Movie Event)

Movie #32 of 2024: Quantum of Solace
The notorious "sophmore album" of Daniel Craig Bond movies is a direct sequel to 2006's Casino Royale and picks up with Bond in a car chase. Paul Haggis reportedly "finished the script with hours to spare" before the 2007-2008 Writer's Strike kicked in and only director Marc Forster and the actors could do rewrites on set, and it shows. The dialog is sparse and the action is constant. Some of the more poignant moments just don't hit. It also seems like studio and/or producer meddling only made things worse with decisions like cutting the Felix Lighter scenes to shreds. This is bleak Bond era at it's bleakest. And the bleak acting is believable because they are in fact worried. Acting not really necessary. What the hell is happening in this film you ask? Forget it and strap in for a tight 90 minutes bleak blond Bonde. And kudos to Olga Kurylenko for giving her character a realness and for fighting (and succeeding) to not be turned into a sex object. The editing choices are fascinating, and the action sequences are as high octane as you can get and right out of the gate. None of this 10 minutes of tone setting or character building bullshit. This is James Bond. Strap in and inject this directly into your eyeballs as if you were Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange for the fidelity in exploding action in between euro villains speaking swiss german at swank parties and Daniel Craig injuries. The Jack White and Alicia Keys theme song holds up too, which reminds me... have you checked out that new Jack White album?

Peter is so much fun, but not Bobby. Body bags, he's in Minnesota. Pain and tears await us. And I like that. I'm ready to cry.

When the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Justice Samuel Alito’s majority opinion smugly declared that “nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.” Alito mocked the dissent’s concern that getting rid of abortion would ultimately imperil things like access to contraception, saying the dissent was “designed to stoke unfounded fear that our decision will imperil those other rights.”
But as anti-choice politicians and activists are now deploying Dobbs to try to roll back decades of law about bodily autonomy, it’s clear the dissent’s fears were quite well-founded.
Conservatives are not going to stop at unwinding the constitutional right to privacy, which underpins things like the right to obtain birth control and the right of same-sex couples to marry. After they destroy the agency of half the population by imposing so-called “fetal personhood” laws, they’re coming for the modern welfare state.
The blueprint
Over at the hard-right Washington Examiner, Conn Carroll, a former comms person for both the Heritage Foundation and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, has a lengthy list of laws he’d like to get rid of — everything from Medicaid, to Head Start, to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Those laws, he argues, “penalize marriage and encourage alternative family formation.” Carroll’s goals therefore dovetail not only with forced-birth conservatives but also with forced-marriage conservatives.

An easy way to explain RDJ being Doctor Doom is if it’s established that some variants are actually doppelgängers of established characters. Like as part of the chaos of the multiverse, some people end up looking like a completely different character in another universe. To retroactively justify this:
1) MCU Kate Bishop’s doppelgänger is Gwen Stacy from Spider-Verse
2) Apocalypse’s doppelgänger is Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley
3) Deadpool’s doppelgänger is Hannibal King from Blade Trinity
With this explanation, we also justify why certain characters are played by different actors (ex: the 3 Spider-Mans).

Robert Downey Jr. turned down a "Deadpool & Wolverine" cameo. The film's writers also came up with one idea to bring back the six original Avengers and have Deadpool roast them.
"Wade was rejected [from the Avengers] and then he dressed all the Avengers down in a way only Deadpool could do.” [X]
Tumblr media
“Deadpool & Wolverine” co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed in an interview with IndieWire that Robert Downey Jr. was courted to reprise Tony Stark/Iron Man for a cameo appearance in Marvel’s latest record-breaking blockbuster. Downey turned the offer down, which now makes sense to the writers as he’s returning to Marvel in a larger and shockingly different capacity as Doctor Doom.
“We wrote scenes, and Downey read the scenes, but what we didn’t know behind the scenes was this Doctor Doom thing.”
