Some smokin’ hot Stranger Things takes that some of y’all are not ready for:

- As of season 4, Will loves and understands El in a way Mike has simply never been able to

- as far as platonic ships go willel solos elmike easily

- Whether or not Mileven breaks up (they’re gonna lmao) isn’t even about the ship itself anymore; it’s about the duffers redeeming themselves after using Will’s sexuality to push forward a het ship, bc if Mike and El didn’t break up then that’s exactly what the duffers did and it would honestly be disgusting

- Stop with this “Will deserves/could do better than Mike” bs; Mike and Will *deserve each other* bc they’ve loved each other practically their whole lives and they deserve to be happy together, nothing more to it

-Vobin would be more popular than steddie if it was mlm and ESPECIALLY if it was a ship with *Steve* and a random side dude inserted just to be his love interest

-Nancy doesn’t deserve any of the hate that she gets and if she was a male character a lot of the traits she gets hated on for would be reasons she was a fan favorite 🙄

-The wheeler siblings have gone through just as much horrible shit as the rest of the cast and their trauma is majorly overlooked

-A lot of character traits that ppl hate on Mike for are actually just signs that he has adhd or autism 🤨🤨

-El may not be as coded as Mike or or Will but she *is* queer coded and the lesbian El headcanon makes a lot of sense

- Mike and El have a unique bond and they care abt each other a lot, but Mike and Will’s bond is still a lot stronger, plus Will sees and loves Mike for who he actually is and Mike never feels insecure about being himself around Will (unlike with El) which is why byler in any form > elmike

-I love Steve but he is wayyy overrated and he wouldn’t be nearly as popular if he wasn’t a conventionally attractive white man

-Ronance, jancy, and steddie solo stancy but Steve + Robin + Nancy as the ultimate platonic trio solos all four

-Eddie is a good character but he’s overrated as hell and any member of the party solos him easily

-Max is definitely sapphic but headcanoning her as lesbian is biphobic at this point bc her love for Lucas is clearly very genuine and can’t be called comphet

-Byler, Vobin, Ronance, and elmax are all better queer ships than steddie

-The only reason elmax isn’t getting hated on by cishet lumax shippers is bc it’s not a threat to lumax being canon like byler is to mileven

-Lumax, Byler, and Elmax easily solo every other ship on the show 😌

All canon couples in stranger things are a couple of WEIRDS (by the 80's standards) and people can't believe byler can be canon? I mean,

Jopper? A divorced woman and man find love again in their 40's. Divorce was NOT well-accepted in the 80's.

Lumax? Interracial couple

Jancy? Independent, ambitious woman and local freak

Robin and Vickie? Pretty obvious

Even Dustin and Suzie, she's a fucking Mormon and he's an agnostic!! She even mentions it!!

El and Mike? Girl has been abused her whole life, now finds love and comfort with the first boy her age she's ever met once she got out to the world.

So your gonna try and tell me

That we get one scene where Vickie says she broke up with her boyfriend, and then there’s a few smiles exchanged and Vickie is rambling and that’s means they’re gonna get together (despite the fact that Robin stopped rambling around Vickie which that itself shows she doesn’t have a crush on Vickie anymore since it’s quite litterally canon that Robin talks non stop when nervous or more specifically when around a crush.)

But we get numerous scenes of Robin rambling around Nancy, Nancy reassuring Robin, Robin repeatedly clarifying her and Steve are complete platonic and Nancy talks about boyfriend troubles, give each other adorable smiles even when the other isn’t looking or when talking about them with someone else AND HOLD HANDS

And yet you say Vickie and Robin is what’s gonna happen?? That shit don’t add up.

Criticizing the D*ffer Brothers' choice to keep Will's character "ambiguous" and choosing to not have him fully come out is A-OK! And I will definitely back up anyone who makes that criticism because it's completely valid. In a world of supernatural powers and monsters, how is an openly gay teenager "too unrealistic"?

BUT-

From the same accounts that criticize that choice, there is a HUGE amount of hate towards Robin and Vickie because "they're the same person"? We don't even really know Vickie yet, and I think it's so exciting to think that Robin is able to have a friendship/hopefully a romance with her. I do not understand the hate and I will continue to defend this ship!!

The fact that a lot of people are being so pressed and homophobic about byler *possibly* being canon when Robin x Vickie are practically canon onscreen already and no one is batting an eye tells me that

1) Straight ppl (and a lot of queer ppl too tbh) don’t take sapphic ships seriously bc there is a culture of literally ignoring lesbians and how special and equally queer wlw love is, so homophobes don’t see it as that much of a problem

and 2) The difference between having a queer ship as part of the main plotline between two crucial main characters, vs having a cute but relatively unrelated side queer pairing just for the sake of giving an LGBTQ character a love interest MATTERS when it comes to representation. There are so. Many. Cishet ppl who claim to be “allies” or just “okay” with the queer community until suddenly it looks like a queer ship between two MAIN CHARACTERS is going to be endgame *instead of the het ship*. A few minutes of screentime for Robin and the character put into the show specifically to be her love interest that showed up a grand total of three scenes in the entire season? Yeah, sure, that’s fine, but as soon as it becomes apparent that one of the main young teenage characters is in love with his best friend who is also a major character might actually be reciprocated? Ppl throw a goddamn FIT.

It is so telling that people are coming up with all of these excuses for why byler could never and shouldn’t happen, and why they’re adamantly against it:

“Mike has to be straight cuz he’s with el!” (bi ppl and comphet exist 🤨)

“It’s just not realistic, they’re just friends it came out of nowhere” (it’s canon that Will’s had feelings for Mike since season one so idk wtf ur talkin abt)

“M*leven is the main ship you’re just delusional” (they’re not tho??Are u forgetting abt lumax? Cuz they got wayy more attention and love in s4 than m*leven did. Also jopper and jancy exist)

“Mike isn’t obligated to like Will back” (literally no one said he was? It’s not that he’s “obligated” it’s just that he’s acting pretty fuckin fruity)

And ofc my personal favorite: “It’s the 80s it’s just not realistic for so many ppl to be gay” (if u rlly think gay ppl didn’t exist in the 80s I beg u to open a proper history book)

Translation? “I simply cannot bring myself to believe that a queer character on a show this big would be essential and well loved enough by the writers and actors to get a happy ending. This show was never stated to be strictly abt the queer experience (as opposed to something like heartstopper) so obviously my het ship will be endgame over the queer one, bc a major endgame relationship couldn’t possibly be queer. That makes me uncomfortable.”

Basically, straight people are getting upset about byler bc they’re used to queer ships being sidelined or just put there for clout.

They’re ALSO just used to seeing the main female protagonist end up in an endgame with a guy, bc god forbid a female MC gets to finish her arc single 🙄

We can acknowledge the difference between a queer side ship with one insignificant character and a queer ship between two major characters that is essential to the plot, while also talking about the fact that Robin and Vickie being relatively ignored both by homophobes AND the fandom is bc sapphic ships tend to get sidelined to mlm ships.

We talk a lot about the parallel between Lumax&Jopper&Jancy and Byler but what gets me is how Rocky, the only canon queer ship, parallel Byler.

Like, they showed Robin liking Vickie and getting called out by Steve for not acting like herself to impress her. They straightbaitted us with Robin&Steve. They showed Vickie having a boyfriend who she kiss (and did so in front of robin (which was later directly paralleled to byler) so she thinks she got no chance. Which as we all know, is not true, they're definitely endgame.

On the other hand, we have both Mike and El not acting like themselves to impress the other for which they immediately get called out by Argyle and Will. (this can also be said about Will lying about the painting, for which he will definitely get called out in s5 ). They might be straightbaitting us with mileven.

Like idk if i'm making sense with this rambling of mine but the way they parallel each others is really interesting to me.
