WILL NO ONE RID ME OF THIS TROUBLESOME PRIEST ROMAN?
When Caesar arrived in pursuit on the third day, Theodotus showed him Pompey's head and ring, but Caesar was offended and wept.
-Liv. Per. 112.4
the title quotation is referring to the famous quote associated with the henry II-thomas becket conflict. the uhhhhh. the themes match, somewhat. feels the same, in some kind of way. anyway, fucking RIP to caesar and pompey. it's gotta be lonely, to start off as three, and then two, and even locked in conflict, there's a familiarity of being known that you're never going to have again. ah, what loss. what tragedy. etc etc etc.

Mandalorian Government (All Is Well AU)
Finally managed to make some sense of this old post and change some things, so here is how Mandalore works in my AU!
Enjoy:
First of all, the citizens:
To be considered a citizen of age, and so have the right to vote, it depends on when and how you became a Mandalorian:
If you are born mandalorian in a mandalorian family, or have been adopted as a child, all you have to do is complete the Verd’goten and continue following the Resol’nare.
If you became a mandalorian as an adult or over the age for the Verd’goten, you have to follow the Resol’nare, and you’ll get the right to vote after being a mandalorian for 5 years.
When you reach the age of 60, you can still vote, but you cannot run for any kind of political office.
There are three main bodies in this government:
The Assembly
The Council
The Governors
The Assembly is formed by 30 elements, and with the two Governors they are 32.
To be elected as a member you have to be a citizen of age, so the standard mandalorian citizen can be elected if they're at least 13 years old (since that’s the age of the Verd’goten), but not if they’re over 60. It’s rare to see mandalorians under the age of 18 actually be elected, but some actually managed it.
Obviously the non-human species that have different life spans will have different rules, with their years equating to the human ones.
Each of the nine planets of the Mandalorian System runs elections to choose three mandalorians to represent the planet in the Assembly.
Not only the citizens of the planets can run for elections, but also those who live on their moons, which is a bit tricky for the planets of Bonagal and Shukut, who have 34 and 30 moons, but they seem to manage just fine.
Only one member per Clan can run for election, and more often than not, they are elected based more on the power of their names than their actual worth as a candidate.
But this doesn’t preclude the way to those who come from less known Clans, who are sometimes even preferred by the citizens, because they are considered more part of the people, and not spoiled kids of powerful families.
This way we have 27 members elected.
The other 3 are chosen by the Assembly, and are the representatives of the Three Houses: House Vizsla, House Kast and House Kryze.
This was a rule made  to avoid internal conflicts, so that the Houses could not complain about losing power or not being represented in the government. They have the same power as the other members of the Assembly, no more, no less.
For each member their tenure lasts 20 years, with the exception, for example, that if a member is elected when they’re 50 then their tenure will only last 10 years, if elected at 45 it will only last 15 years and so on.
They can decide to withdraw from their position, but only after 5 years of service.
Their position can be taken away with a Vote-of-No-Confidence, who can be called by any individual that brings enough evidence to show their reasoning about the vote.
If any of this happens, their planet is given three months to redo a new election for a new member, if this is not done then the Assembly can choose a new member on their own.
The Council doesn’t have actual political power, their position is more honorary than anything else, they are there to give advice and suggestions to the Assembly and the Governors, but their voice has no power in the actual decision making.
It’s made up of 6 elders, elected by the Assembly, with tenure for life, and to be part of it you need to be at least 60 years old.
Most of the time they are former members of the Assembly, who cannot be re-elected there, and so they are given this position. There have been cases in which some of those elected never held political tenure, but they are rare.
They too can lose their position, but this can be decided only by a Vote-of-No-Confidence made and voted by the Assembly.
The citizens have no say on the Council, since they have no power and are only used as advice givers.
The Governors are the heads of state of the Mandalorian System.
They are chosen with an election done across all the planets of the system, and are voted by only the citizens of age.
To run for the election they need to be at least 20 years old, and anyone from any Clan or House can do so.
Their tenure lasts ten years, and the decade of the Mandalorian calendar in which they governed has the name of the two Governors (for example: the decade of Satine and Arla is called “The Years of Fett and Kryze”)
When one becomes a Governor, they have to wear a purple cloak, to signify their status as head of state, and distinguish them from the rest of the Assembly.
They too can have their power taken by a Vote-of-No-Confidence, that can be called by any individual that brings enough evidence to show their reasoning about the vote, but this happens only if at least 25 members of the Assembly vote against the Governor.
No, challenging one of the Governors to a duel to the death will not give you their position of power, but it will give you the chance to get your ass beaten and obliterated by all the 30 members of the Assembly for even suggesting such a stupid idea.
extra random info:
Mandalore is not part of the Republic, but the System decided to at least maintain a good relationship between the two, and every ten years, they invite emissaries of the Republic to the Celebration of the election of the new Governors.
More often than not the emissaries they send are Jedi, as if the Republic was testing them to see if they cared more about their current peace, or the war of the past. But for now no mandalorian ever attacked verbally or physically any of the Jedi sent there, or at least, none of the Jedi ever said anything about it in their reports, so who knows.

Friendly rivalry between alderpaw and needlepaw in an au where clans are friendly and collaborative with eachother.
I'm writing this preamble before writing the ficlet so I don't know how much of this is gonna reflect on it, but I do want it to be known that my immediate thought seeing this prompt was not to focus on the Needlepaw and Alderpaw of it all but rather on the aspect of the Clans being friendlier and more collaborative.
See, half because a while back my friend group got really into thinking about shipping dynamics based on Ursula K. Le-Guin short stories and half because that's what I was reading about for my class on anthropological theory I have thought about the idea of Clans as a type of moiety that evolved out of a gradual cooling of the political tensions at the creation of the Clans.
I usually group the four forest clans into two sets of two based on the alliances towards the end of TPB, LionClan with WindClan and ThunderClan and TigerClan with ShadowClan and RiverClan. I'll have to brainstorm a name for what the two larger Clans with ShadowClan and ThunderClan on one side and WindClan and RiverClan on the other as their halves would be.
(Want to see me overcomplicate your AU premise? Check my guidelines and give me your prompt! You may just be the one chosen next.)
“Alderpaw, come on!” Molewhisker stopped to encourage his panting apprentice. His trudging step and panting tongue betrayed right away how over-exerted he was from the exercise. Or it would if he didn’t look positively ragged, with fur sticking out everywhere and leaves and even bits of grass caught up all across his pelt.
His siter had convinced her own mentor and Molewhisker to make the trek to ShadowClan camp into a training exercise, though perhaps that’s too strong a word for how easily Cherryfall jumped on the idea. Alderpaw would be lying if he were to say he didn’t resent that about his sister just a little bit for how she had made a trip he was already dreading all the worse.
He understood, of course, the need to do so. It was as vital for a warrior of any Clan to get to know their sister Clan as it was to get to know their own territory and their own prey. But nothing he’d heard about their siblings from the other forest had been the least bit encouraging.
After every single gathering the senior warriors would return complaining about Consul Rowanclaw’s inability to keep the peace among his crowd, especially after the kits from their unusually fecund year had begun into apprenticeship. Most of ThunderClan held no particular love of his father but considering the alternative they dreaded the coming year when Consul Bramblestar would have to step back as Brambleclaw, letting Rowanstar enact his year of primary leadership.
When Alderpaw finally came to rest, almost collapsing without a care for the fact the floor was strewn with endless pine needes instead of the more familiar leaf litter, his peace was short-lived for he was soon faced with an unfamiliar silver-gray she-cat making faces at him. “This is a ThunderClan cat?” she said with an eyeroll as she turned around and slapped him across the face with her tail. “And I thought this was going to be a challenge.”
“The real challenge is going to be having to live with them,” another one jeered.
“They’re even worse at the gathering,” a third one of the apprentices piped up. “All goody two-paws trying oh so hard to impress their mentors. It’s sickening really.”
As they each took turns hurling insult after insult, Alderpaw could hear his sister swishing her tail across the pine needle cover. He knew that kind of look on her face, eager to jump to her own defense, and by extension that of her kin and Clan. But she also looked to her mentor who had not yet done anything about the insolent apprentices in spite of the authority conferred by her rank even over the youth of another Clan.
With a subtle eye signal from his sister and a tap of her foot, Molewhisker sprung into action, bringing the apprentice currently taking his turn at a jab under his grasp.
“Are we done with this distraction now?” The other apprentices tensed seeing the warrior currently grasping their friend but as Cherryfall flashed her claws they backed down.
Molewhisker released his grasp on the apprentice and soon enough Cherryfall was instructing everyone on the training exercise they would be performing together. “Don’t you think just because you have them to intimidate them that I’m going to go easy on you,” the silver-gray molly said to Alderpaw.
Just his luck that he had been paired with her of all possible cats...

Re: roman empire.
I think some confusion comes from definitions. The roman republic was an empire in that it was expanding its borders and colonializing other countries.
But there wasn't An Emperor in charge. You had the 2 Consuls who'd be co-rulers and had veto powers over each other. Sometimes you'd have powerful aliances, often you'd have intrigue
The title 'Imperator' used to be for the person in charge of the military. Like, 'commander', the guy who gives commands.
Which led to some conflicts when the person in charge of the military wasn't also in charge of politics, but wanted to be.
That title got folded into the Dictator For Life position that Gaius Julius established, which is considered one of the main reasons he was murdered.
So, empire, but for a while nobody called 'emperator' in charge.
Thank you for the info, genuinely!
As i also replied on that post, I should learn not to reblog things with long tags when Im only half awake- I was primarily reacting to the idea that killing Ceasar was in any way an anti-imperialist action, considering that the guy who came after him, his adoptive son, was the ''first Emperor'' of Rome, even though it was already an empire, just without one head guy in charge.
but its nice to have a short overview of the timeline nonetheless ^^

I do think it's funny that my first chapter note for the Medea chapter was 'Sulla and Crassus fuck each other through other people and discuss theater.' now it's like. the Rome you remember is not the Rome you are returning to. There Is Something Shaped Like A Man In This Room With You And Neither Of You Are Looking At It Because You're Both Too Busy Walking Into It's Mouth. Lucullus and Sulla team up to trap Crassus into reciting the Medea lines.

Valerius ordered his men to the attack, and the advance began. Nothing was better calculated to arouse the indignation of the Volscians and Aequians than to find their victorious armies forced to cower behind an earthen rampart in order to save their lives. They too, therefore, confident that their safety lay in their own courage and their own swords, demanded from their officers the order to advance.
The order was given, and acted upon, but with unexpected results; for the Roman commander attacked before they were properly organized to receive him, only the leading files having got clear of the camp while the remainder, in good order, were still coming down the slope to their assigned positions on the open ground below. Even the sections which were clear of the entrenchments in time were not yet adequately deployed, so what the Romans encountered was, to all intents and purposes, little better than a mob of men in appalling confusion, trying desperately to form some sort of defensive line and looking to every side for support which was not there.
Valerius struck hard, and the weight of his attack, and the war-cry of his men, added to their difficulties, so that they were compelled to give ground; soon, they rallied, partly by their own efforts, partly in response to their officers who roundly abused them for running from an enemy they had so recently defeated.
Valerius called upon his troops to remember that they were free men, fighting their first battle for a free Rome: 'For none but yourself, he cried, addressing the infantry, the victory will be - not this time will it fill the pockets or swell the pride of the decervirs! Not Appius commands you now, but I, your consul - I, Valerius, who brought you freedom like my ancestors before me. Show by your deeds that in former fights it was the commanders who failed, not the men. What? Will you stoop to have shown more courage against Romans than against a foreign foe? To have feared political domination more than defeat? Before this war began, Verginia might have been raped - the lust of Appius was a menace to all. Yes, Appius and Verginia - one man, one girl! But now, should things go ill, the children of every one of us will have to fear the worst from thousands. God avert the omen! Such things, indeed, Jupiter and Mars will never let happen to a city founded as ours was founded. Remember the Aventine and the Sacted Mount! bring back to the place where a few months ago you won your freedom a power and empire not a jot diminished, and prove today that the heart of a Roman soldier is what it always was before the decemvirs came to their accursed power, and that a Roman's courage is none the less for his equality before the law!'
Titus Livius
