I've already decided that my new year's resolution is I'm gonna finally write my first fanfic

so im. discussing a character. andddd im struggling with how "direct" about certain topics(in this case its casual fatphobia(very difficult to articulate what that entails. at least through textpost because i cant gauge my reader's prior knowledge of the subject, going off of lived experience)). because i really dont want to come across as a negative Nelly, but also its very important to my analysis and skirting it would be antithetical to the very point i want to make.

i hate that i feel the need to apologize for discussing it, or that people wont care because "it's not that big a deal, thats only a minor character, i dont think your examples are that bad" because so many people just dont get it. they dont understand that some of the things they think are innocuous actually cause harm(both to the character in story and to the people reading/watching/playing those stories), especially over time, and pointing that out is bound to upset people.

its something thats very important to me, and by extension, this character is very important to me because i understand what being on the receiving end of "well meaning" comments feels like, i get having to put your feelings away because confronting others about it runs the risk of driving them away, and when you have a hard time already finding people to accept you, you just. put up with it.
