Where are the Eremites now? *down the back of the sofa*
Well, besides their recent Hulu appearance…
In 2016's Doctor Who Christmas special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio, the Superman stand-in Grant Gordon receives his superpowers when, as a child, he swallows a gift from the Twelfth Doctor which he thought was a cough drop. As the Doctor later explained, it was much more than a cough drop:
DOCTOR: [It's] like a kind of on-board computer. Come here. Can you see, can you see that little yellow star at the end of that curve? It comes from near there. Formed in the heart of a red hole and stabilised in pure dwarf star crystal. The gemstone is intuitive. It knows what you want and draws energy from the nearest star to make it happen. There's only four of them left in the universe. The Apocalypse Monks of the Andurax called this one the Hazandra, the Ghost of Love and Wishes. Okay, then, pop it in.
Beginning the day after Christmas, Titan Comics released an eight-part comic series called Ghost Stories featuring the Twelfth Doctor's later adventures with Grant and his family, and in the final issue we actually got to meet these "Apocalypse Monnks of the Andurax". But when we do, the Doctor calls them something slightly different:
Tumblr media
In its entry on "Faction Precursors", The Book of the War says of the Eremites,
Some commentators have drawn tenuous comparisons between Faction Paradox and the Eremites [… But] members of the Faction decorate themselves in ceremonial armour, and only draw their own blood when absolutely necessary, whereas Eremites were more likely to find expression through severe self-mutilation and the abnegation of pain.
And indeed, what do we see in Ghost Stories when some Vigilant Eremites pull back their hoods to operate a bit of machinery? Distinctly Faction-like visages:
Tumblr media
The Book of the War concludes,
There’s a maxim that history repeats itself first as tragedy, then as comedy, then as farce. If any parallels can reasonably be drawn between the Eremites and Faction Paradox, then perhaps it could be said that the Eremites are the tragedy and the Faction the comedy.
When comparing Doctor Mysterio to The Book of the War, that comparison may be flipped around – but the point remains.
(My friend Ryan Fogarty, writer and canonwelder extraordinaire, has noted further, even more remarkable connections between Ghost Stories' Vigilant Eremites and some other figures from ancient Time Lord myth. I hope we'll all get to see his vision of the Eremites some day!)

What On Earth Is Theo Possible?
Tumblr media
A featherless biped, for a start. A time-travelling DJ. A snappy dresser. Perhaps more pointedly, “Blair Bidmead’s answer to Iris Wildthyme, whose Tardis Wiki page you will find here”.
But that’s not the real question. Is he a Time Lord, or what? With a name like that, I always assumed he was some kind of posthuman; but Ryan Fogarty’s Wringing Off implies otherwise, with second-generation Outsider Pyke Xi-Rauth having the following mental reflection:
Pyke lived in the slums of paradise; a relopod ward in the drylands. He was not one of the privileged lickspittles of his planet’s aristocracy. With the exception of a few artists and revolutionaries like Theo Possible his kind never got the chance to break out from where they ‘belonged’.
Wait, what?
Obviously, I had to investigate. Here’s what Ryan told me:
Meeting the First Doctor [in The Rise and Fall of Señor 105], he expresses a great and active animosity towards the aristocracy. It's never spelled out, but I tend to think that he is a Shabogan who ended up adventuring off-planet and was never anywhere near a Time Lord Academy.
[But] even talking to Blair he hemmed and hawed on that question. I don't commit one way or the other [in the quoted Wringing Off passage] — internal to Pyke's own timeline, he knows him because he deejayed a couple of concerts on the Sixth Homeworld and on the Space Wrestling circuit.
(The Sixth Homeworld is by far the most permissive one to sneak into, you see, because it was shoddily put together.)
Intriguing! Frustratingly inconclusive, but intriguing!

Tumblr media
Above is a digital artwork of Abraytha, the Unbound Scavenger, drawn by the fabulous Holly!
Tumblr media
And here is the cover for 'A World of Pure Unimagination', drawn by the awesome Aristide!
Our first seven stories...
The First Metamorphosis is a story of The Interstellar Sleuth, written by Elodie Christian and edited by Ostara Gale & Aristide Twain. The story follows an amnesiac patient’s attempt to escape the terrible Happiness Facility, with their only real clue to their identity a mysterious lottery ticket…
The Carnage of Urmafrae features Lotto and Mae as they investigate the disappearance of a village which has never existed, and learn to live with the consequences… The third story of The Interstellar Sleuth, this story was written by Ostara Gale and edited by Theta Mandel & Aristide Twain.
A Collision of Ships marks a crossover between The Castaways of Ishiok and Zadellin, written by Ostara Gale and edited by Theta Mandel & Aristide Twain. A multiversal traveller and three Archons run into each other —  literally. Their Ships collide. Unsurprisingly, tensions rise as they try to fix their respective Higher Dimensional Ships so they can continue on their adventures.
A Visit from Everywhere is a crossover story between The Castaways of Ishiok and the worlds of Jenny Everywhere, written by Ostara Gale and edited by Theta Mandel & Aristide Twain. When Jenny turns up in Katioka, Abraytha and Xiantio attempt to take her home.
My Name is SAM is a standalone sci-fi short story, penned by Elodie Christian and edited by Ostara Gale. SAM, a true AI based on Mars, sends a letter home. AI should not have a home, but SAM has memories that would beg to differ…
A World of Pure Unimagination by Xavier Llewellyn and edited by Aristide Twain follows Jenny Everywhere and her colossal chocolate craving. On the search for sweets, she finds an infamously awful Chocolate Factory knock-off. But is there something going on that’s more sinister than a simple scam? Jenny won’t leave without answers.
The Cathedral of Winter was originally published in The Book of the Snowstorm, and is Abraytha’s first story. Written by Ostara Gale and edited by Aristide Twain, this story is now available for free digitally in order to make the Unbound Scavenger’s story complete.
You can find us here on Tumblr, and also at CheshireHouseStories on Instagram, as well as Cheshire_House on X/Twitter. You can turn on notifications for this blog to always be notified when a major update occurs, or when new stories are released. We hope you enjoy our stories… Now, get to reading!

🚨Riverdale & Nancy Drew Premiere and Series Finale Dates🚨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riverdale’s 7th and final season will premiere Wednesday, March 29 at 9pm ET.
Nancy Drew’s 4th and final season will premiere Wednesday, May 31 at 8pm ET.
Both shows will air their series finales on Wednesday, August 23.
RIVERDALE SEASON 7 SYNOPSIS:
The seventh season of RIVERDALE goes where no season of RIVERDALE has dared to go before—the 1950s! Picking up where last season ended, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) finds himself trapped in the 1950s. He has no idea how he got there, nor how to get back to the present. His friends are no help, as they are living seemingly authentic lives, similar to their classic Archie Comics counterparts, unaware that they’ve ever been anywhere but the 1950’s. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is the classic all-American teen, coming of age, getting into trouble, and learning life-lessons; Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is the girl next door, starting to question everything about her perfect life—including her controlling mother Alice (Madchen Amick); Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) is a Hollywood starlet who moved to Riverdale under mysterious circumstances; Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) is the Queen Bee with a withering wit and a secret longing; Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) is an activist fighting for the Black students of recently integrated Riverdale High; Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) is a “square” crooner wrestling with his sexual identity; Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton) is a basketball star from farm country; and Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner) is a greaser who’s destined to be an Elvis-type star. It isn’t until Jughead is visited by Tabitha Tate (Erinn Westbrook)—Riverdale’s Guardian Angel—that he learns the cosmic truth about their predicament. Will Jughead and the gang be able to return to the present? Or will our characters be trapped in the 1950’s forever? And, if so…is that such a bad thing?
NANCY DREW SEASON 4 SYNOPSIS:
Season four of NANCY DREW begins as Nancy launches a new investigation to find a group of missing bodies from Horseshoe Bay’s cemetery that have been dug up and stolen—or have possibly risen. As Nancy is drawn into this ghostly case, a string of unexplained paranormal crimes leads the Drew Crew to believe that the literal sins of the town’s past have returned to haunt the living. Meanwhile, Nancy struggles with yearning for Ace, the man she loves. But when a slow-burning attraction begins between Nancy and the son of Ryan Hudson’s newest enemy, Nancy must decide whether this love interest is worth the ire of both her father and Ace—whose own heart may also be tempted by a new relationship. Nancy’s exploits this season will bring the Drew Crew numerous standalone cases, stunning twists, humor, and unexpected romances as they are drawn into a season-long mystery unlike any they have had to solve before. When Nancy’s efforts to protect her seaside hometown from the sins of its past backfire, she must do the unthinkable to save her friends from both the supernatural and earthbound threats coming for them—and it could cost her everything, and everyone, she’s ever loved.

An extensive mapping of all of the doctor's incarnations
Tumblr media
This is my second revision (third edition overall). In this edition I have added quite a few incarnations and origins as well as clean up the mapping quite a bit.
The added incarnations include: the Red Guardian, Dronid Doctor, Dr. Who (Cushing Movies), Intrepid, 11's Ganger, the Dream Lord, Master!Doctor, Ulysses (for the Infinity Doctor), and the Father of Time.
The added origins include:
For the Other: Intrepid, the Stranger from the Future, contemporary of Rassilon (replaces "naturally born pre-pythian curse), Ancient being (including the subsets of Mimir and Nyarlothotep), and some relation to Tectuen (because their role in mythology is similar)
For the Doctor Proper: 49th century colony
Note that I also included both "invalid" doctors (such as Peter Cushing and Lenny Henry), as well as characters originally intended to be the doctor/other but never confirmed (Red Guardian, Intrepid )
I desperately wanted to add Ryan Fogarty's idea that Marnal was actually the Other and the Doctor absorbed the Other's biodata due to regenerating in his (Marnal's) TARDIS so many times, and being in it, but couldn't find any kind of actual evidence (unlike my Mimir Canon-Weld which I feel has somewhat adequate evidence).

Carlow cause shock of the senior hurling championship as they hold 14-man Kilkenny to stunning draw
The pre-match favourites looked to be in total control when Martin Keoghan opened the scoring with a point and Owen Wall followed up with a goal. Chris Nolan’s seventh-minute point for the home side was important and while they trailed by six points on 28 minutes, they were still causing problems for Kilkenny, who had Killian Doyle sent off for an off-the-ball foul. Three points each from Chris Nolan and Marty Kavanagh kept Carlow in touch and at the interval Kilkenny led 1-11 to 0-9. A Fiachra Fitzpatrick 36th-minute point had Carlow believing in themselves and while they struggled at times with Kilkenny’s short-passing and possession game, they were not going away. Possibly if Tom Phelan had found the net with 17 minutes to go, that would have settled Kilkenny but Brian Tracey, the Carlow keeper, made a great point-block. Carlow themselves almost had a three-pointer but Kavanagh was crowded out by an alert defence. The leading Carlow scorer had a hand in his side’s goal but when his shot was blocked, Conor Kehoe, was on hand to force the sliotar over the line. From there, Carlow won the battle of wills. TJ Reid scored the final two points for Kilkenny to put them two clear. The home side refused to contemplate defeat. James Doyle was on hand to make it a one-point game and on 75 minutes, a moment of petulance from a Kilkenny player saw a free being awarded. On the 45-metre mark, Kavanagh gave Carlow an historic draw with his free just curling inside the right hand upright. Scorers — Carlow: M Kavanagh 0-9 (1 65 8f); C Nolan 0-4; C Kehoe 1-0; F Fitzpatrick 0-2; K McDonald (f), J M Nolan, James Doyle, P Boland, D Murphy 0-1 each. Kilkenny: TJ Reid 0-6 (4f); O Wall 1-3; M Keoghan, C Kenny 0-3 each; T Phelan 0-2; H Lawlor, B Ryan, S Murphy 0-1 each. Carlow: B Tracey, P Doyle, D Wall, N Bolger, T Lawlor, K McDonald, F Fitzpatrick, S Joyce, R Coady , J Nolan, C Nolan, M Kavanagh, J McCullagh, J M Nolan, S Treacy. Subs: C Kehoe for Treacy (h-t), P Boland for JM Nolan (h-t), C Whelan for Joyce (h-t), J Doyle for Coady (50), D Murphy for J Nolan (62). Kilkenny: E Murphy, M Butler, H Lawlor, K Doyle, D Blanchfield, D Corcoran, S Murphy, C Kenny, J Molloy, M Keoghan, J Donnelly, T Phelan, B Ryan, TJ Reid, O Wall. Subs: T Walsh for Ryan (h-t), C Fogarty for Molloy (42), B Drennan for Wall (58). Referee: C Cooney (Dublin). Source link via The Novum Times

Four incredible new stories!
From the worlds of The Interstellar Sleuth, The Castaways of Ishiok, and Disparate Minds, The Cheshire House is delighted to show you four incredible new stories!
Tumblr media
A drawing of Abraytha, Xiantio, and Yahed (a character original to this batch), by the excellent Plum Pudding!
The Tall Dark Spire at the Edge of the Not-Sky is the next instalment in The Castaways of Ishiok, penned by Ostara Gale (@a-wartime-paradox) with help from Ryan Fogarty, and edited by Aristide Twain (@aristidetwain). The story follows Xiantio and Abraytha as they attempt to uncover the truth about the Deus Initiative.
Tumblr media
Above is an illustration for Island on the Edge of Eternity - Part Two, with the background by Kevin (@fire_fly_flare) and the foreground by Matilda Duncan!
Island on the Edge of Eternity - Part Two is the eagerly-awaited second part of Island on the Edge of Eternity, after the release of Part One in our previous regular batch. This story is in the series The Interstellar Sleuth, and was written by Thien Valdram, before being edited by Ostara Gale and Aristide Twain. As the bodies begin piling up, Rhyz’ir deals with Nzhi’ax’s betrayal, and must decide whether being believed is worth losing someone they once called a friend.
Tumblr media
This is the wonderful cover of the third Disparate Minds story, ‘Deadspace’, and was created by series originator Plum Pudding!
Deadspace is the third instalment in the Disparate Minds series, written by Plum Pudding and edited by Ostara Gale and Aristide Twain. This story follows Serena as she and Avenue face the uncomfortable arrival of strange people who aren’t quite human. Serena finds everything she’s ever known turned upside-down as the not-people’s artificial presence begins to spread…
Tumblr media
Another lovely cover from Plum Pudding, this time for the fourth Disparate Minds story, ‘Pitcher’!
Pitcher is the fourth instalment in the Disparate Minds series, written by Plum Pudding and edited by Ostara Gale and Aristide Twain. We see June, lying on the road. She really thought she could do it this time — escape Avenue. Is that even possible? Has she done it? And, if she has, where can she go?
You can find us at CheshireHouseStories on Instagram, as well as Cheshire_House on X/Twitter.
