It's kind of wild how smoothly this goes until it doesn't. And I…I'll say it again, but I’m really gonna miss the whole week of wondering how it was gonna go wrong, because you knew it had to. You knew something had to go wrong, even if they succeeded. And you had a whole week to theorize about what would happen. And now we're just not gonna get that

you dont understand how long i've wanted to ramble about my process so im taking this oppurtunity

when i do flat colors my process is much simpler: find colours, find shadow (set layer to multiply and lower opacity), profit

i do a lot of color based on vibes, buy my process is usually similar from peice to peice

i take a lot of rendering inspo from @angelpuns they have very nice coloring :D

my biggest advice is don't be afraid to take inspo from other people styles and also trust your gut... i guess?

Cass and Tap are also styles i've taken a lot of inspo from, but i think most of us know them lol

i'll hide the rest of my incoherant thoughts under the cut:

gradients are fun to play around with when it comes to backgrounds and subtle shading, same with the airbrush

finding a solid light source is real helpful, even if it's just one side of the canvas

thinking about the chara in a 3d space helps inform light blocking for example: i draw plastrons in a way that makes them very 3D, the line down the middle is a little bit of and indent and the top part (the chest area) is rounded, so the light bounces off it differently than if i were to draw them as flat

i didnt ass this in the pics, but when i do eyes, the "whites" are never really white. for humans, i adjust the color to blend with their skin tone, but for the turtles i make them a bit more yellow, with hints of green to match their skin

coloring in other peoples styles is such a great help, for me atleast i just know that i've drawn in Angel's style once and it has forever influence how i color /pos

Ugh I really need to learn how to colour and shade... why did past me always avoid it like how I used to avoid hands and feet?

Curse my avoidance of difficult things...
