His wife though Gujarati, adopted the Uttar Pradesh culture after marriage because Papa was from UP. I never heard him saying a bad word about anyone. I met Harivanshrai Bachchan Saab at Papa's place. They called each other 'Bandhu'. I don't think I was so close to anyone outside the family. I discussed all my problems with Papa. He called me daughter but always addressed me as 'Lataji'. I objected to that. But he persisted. When he died of a heart attack, I was heartbroken. No one could take his place."

  TV9 “chairman, CEO and editor” Ravi Prakash, who was sharing the stage with prime minister Narendra Modi at the launch of ‘TV9 Bharatvarsh’ just 40 days ago has been shown the door by the network’s new owners whom he, ironically, brought in to buy the company from its original promoter six months ago.
An official spokesman (see statement, above) confirmed that the board of directors, under the new management, had okayed the “removal” of Ravi Prakash as wholetime director on May 8, and an EGM of shareholders on May 10, had consented to the move.
Ravi Prakash reportedly did not attend either meeting.
Ravi Prakash, who owns 8.5 per cent in the holding company, Associated Broadcasting Company Pvt Ltd (ABCPL), however, shot off a “resignation” letter to the board in which he lashed  out at them, calling them “representatives of political honchos who are out there to devour “EVERY” journalist and independent media house today”.

It is not clear who the “political honchos” Ravi Prakash refers to are—whether they are in Hyderabad or Delhi—but the removal/resignation of the pioneering TV journalist caps a dramatic couple of days in one of India’s most successful news networks, which has a presence in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati and English.

On Thursday, May 9, the residence and offices of Ravi Prakash were searched after two complaints of forgery, cheating and conspiracy had been lodged on April 24 and 30.
The headlines in today’s newspapers in Hyderabad said it all:
“Ravi Prakash out of TV9“, screams the Telugu daily Sakshi.
“TV9 CEO booked for forgery, quizzed,” reads The Times of India.
“TV9 CEO forged papers, gave false info,” says Telangana Today.
“Forgery case: cops conduct searches at TV9 office,” says The New Indian Express.
The police searches had been followed by rumours of Ravi Prakash absconding; of his arrest; of his seeking anticipatory bail; of his passport being seized. But he put paid to those rumours by appearing ‘live’ on air on Thursday night to assert that he was very much in charge.

Depending on who you believe, behind the dramatic exit is a boardroom tussle over control of a powerful, multilingual network, with the unseen hands of ambitious politicians and businessmen guiding it from Hyderabad to New Delhi.
TV9 promoter Srini Raju, a cousin of Ramalinga Raju of the now-defunct Satyam Infotech, had been trying to cash out for a long time now. Potential suitors included The Times of India group, NewsX, and the usual suspect, Rajeev Chandrasekhar of Asianet.
The charitable view is that Ravi Prakash, who apparently got the My Home group, and Megha Engineering and Constructions—to shell out Rs 460 crore for a 90 per cent stake, to stave off Rajeev Chandrasekhar, wanted to run the company like he did in the past: independently, without any editorial interference.
The new management in the last six months is believed to have had a hands-off approach like Srini Raju, except that, as an active investor, it wanted its own men on the board, which Ravi Prakash is alleged to have resisted by forging signatures, a charge which even his detractors find it difficult to believe.
“The new owners wanted to know the company better. Ravi was not used to dealing with people like these,” says an insider. The buzz in Hyderabad is that at least one of the new owners is extremely close to the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS).
TV9 had initially been valued at around Rs 1,200 crore but that valuation was driven down by a boycott of the channel by cable owners in the Hyderabad/Telangana region in protest at the depiction of TRS politicians. Wink, wink.

The conspiracy theory is that the change of ownership of TV9 and the change of helmsmanship has all to do with the national ambitions of Telangana politicians. Ravi Prakash, by this reading, had been told that he could stay on for six months but he was now insistent on clinging on.
The backdated sale of shares to Telugu actor Sivaji, who did a sting operation titled ‘Operation Garuda‘ to show how the BJP was trying to overthrow the Andhra Pradesh government by buying up MLAs like in Karnataka, seems to have muddied the waters further.
The matter is now before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and likely to come up on May 16.

Pandit Narendra Sharma was an illustrious poet and lyricist, writer and intellectual as well as a journalist who has penned unforgettable poems, literature and lyrics in films. A Hindi Urdu scholar, he combined the tradition of Kabir and Meera with the lyricism of ghazals and Urdu poetry to provide Indian cinema with the Hindi language that was rich in the literature of Allahabad and Ganga. He was the man who evolved the face of All India Radio during its drowning stage by establishing popular Radio channel Vividh Bharati and generated listeners that went upto an amount of almost 35 crores. He wrote some memorable songs for hindi films like "Jyoti Kalash Chhalke" (Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan - 1961) ,“Yashomati maiya se bole nandlala” (Satyam Shivam Sundaram – 1979) and the title song “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” (Satyam Shivam Sundaram – 1979). On his birth anniversary, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar pays tribute to Pandit Narendra Sharma, who was a father-figure to her: "I used to call him 'Papa'. The first time, I met Papa (Pandit Narendra Sharma) it was at Master Vinayak's residence. He was accompanied by the eminent litterateur Amritlal Nagar. He asked me to sing for for him. During those days, I didn't need a second invitation to sing. I'd burst into a song whenever I was asked. He was a learned man. I'd spend hours listening to him. In 1968, when I recorded the Bhagavat Gita, Papa came home to congratulate me. I was anxious about my Sanskrit pronunciation. Papa assured me I had done a good job. Papa stayed in Khar. I'd visit his home. My ties with him and his family were very strong. His 3 daughters were my age. I'd carry extra clothes to his home and stay overnight. His daughters and I would do dhamaal all night. His wife though Gujarati, adopted the Uttar Pradesh culture after marriage, because Papa was from UP. I never heard him saying a bad word about anyone. I met Harivanshrai Bachchan Saab at Papa's place. They called each other 'Bandhu'. I don't think I was so close to anyone outside the family. I discussed all my problems with Papa. He called me daughter but always addressed me as 'Lataji'. I objected to that. But he persisted. When he died of a heart attack, I was heartbroken. No one could take his place." Life in a lockdown: Kedar Dhondu’s ‘Lonely Residents’ project explores people’s lockdown experiences
For Satyam Acharya from Margao in Goa, lockdown gave an opportunity to bond with his father over preparing tea and breakfast; he would paint while his father made lunch and dinner. Satyam is Lonely Resident#3 in artist Kedar Dhondu’s unique online project ‘Lonely Residents’.
Kedar, who teaches at Goan College of Art had studied in Sarojini Naidu School of Art and Communication in Hyderabad and lived in the city for six years. Presently based in Goa, the artist was to travel to Milan for an exhibition scheduled in April (now postponed) and used to regularly check the news for updates. “When the pandemic reached Italy after China, many myths were floating around that the virus cannot survive in a hot country like India. But, when the situation changed and the lockdown was first announced in March here, there were fear and anxieties. We were not able to accept this isolation and wondered if we will survive,” he says.

People stuck at homes, their lives and experiences during the lockdown became a subject for Kedar. “We love to go out, meet friends, relatives or just travel as it relaxes us. Suddenly, we became lonely residents without any contact with the outside world. We were locked inside our own homes and the isolation was hard to digest,” he says on how he devised his project. “I wanted to discover people, study their lives and how they have been adapting to the new lifestyle in lockdown. I also wanted to share through these images that staying home is not boring; one’s house is not a limited space and one can do a lot even from their homes,” he adds.
‘Lonely Residents’ project on his Instagram account (kedar_dhondu) invited people at homes to send their close-up image with a few lines of how they have been spending time. The only requirement was to send a photo looking directly into the camera. “I wanted viewers to interact with the image and look into their lives.” Initially, he got six entries from Goa and later, from Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Odisha and later from London and New York too.

Out of all the submissions, Kedar made 35 drawings, uploaded them on his Facebook and Instagram accounts and also tagged the people who sent him.

For Bengaluru-based Raj Naik, ‘Lonely Resident # 5’, the lockdown experience was ‘bitter’. Kedar’s sketch shows a grim-faced man standing near his computer table at home; The front door is open with a pair of slippers near the door.

Raj had travelled to South Africa for work and returned to India just two days before the Indian government banned international flights. He had to quarantine himself in his apartment while his wife and a three-year-old daughter stayed at a relative’s place. Says Kedar, “The quarantine period was a real worry for him. He hid from neighbours so that they did not panic, but his wife told him that everyone in the neighbourhood was talking about how someone is quarantined in House No. 207 and that they have to stay away from him. His neighbour on the ground floor shifted to another place. So Raj couldn’t sleep well during the initial days, especially after watching videos of people dying due to COVID-19. Only his office work kept him engaged and calls from friends and family members eased his worry.”
Kedar hopes to colour the drawings and exhibit them at a gallery.
