I suppose I may as well go ahead and post my Guilty Gear OC I made just in time for Art Fight this year...

A completely taken-over vessel of a Forbidden Beast.

Salome is a "shared" body between a beast and a regular human woman. The original host of the body wished to vanish from her place in the world and thus made a contract with a beast to do so. However, due to the restrictions of her deal, she could not fully accomplish her goal.

They can contort in inhuman ways and always move erratically.

The beast's personality is the complete opposite of the host's:

Fast | Slow

Basically, think of Crona and Ragnarok from Soul Eater for their personality and dynamic.

Their main weapons are a collection of different items all formed out of the host's blood.

When the host is in control deep, deep red -- almost blackish -- blood seeps out of their eyes, nostrils, and mouth. When the Beast is in control various scratches and marks appear on the body and the blood disappears.

The beast has the ability to alter the body's form in any ways it wishes however prefers the current appearance due to it being a mix of the original body and her "ex" girlfriend's appearances. (The Beast murdered the girlfriend immediately after taking over and prefers this form to keep the host mentally weaker.)

Besides all of that, they work similarly to Zato-1! And, in fact, they have quite the obsession with his and Eddie's dynamic...

Their name is a reference to one of my favorite songs, "Salome" by Femme Fatale / Kaya Rose. Their attacks would have several references to different Visual Kei songs and bands! And the beast itself is a reference to "Beast of Blood" by Malice Mizer!

Text on her says "Red drops on my greedy lips" and "Drowning in that poison." First one is a lyric from "Beast of Blood" and the second being from "Salome."

Host's pronouns are she/her but together with the beast they become they/them

Teleseryes, leitmotifs, and my obsession with things happening in the background

Ngayong taon lang ulit ako nagsimulang sumubaybay sa teleserye. Dalawa ang pinapanood ko ngayon: Darna at Maria Clara at Ibarra. Darna has a leitmotif for Valentina, and Maria Clara at Ibarra appears to have one for Padre Salvi—posibleng para sa iba pa, pero distracted pa ako sa ibang details until I just few episodes ago. Ang malinaw sa akin sa ngayon ay gusto kong marinig ang full recording ng themes nila. Napapaisip tuloy ako kung may mga inilalabas bang OST para sa mga teleserye (bukod sa theme songs mismo).

Sa Darna, mukhang si Valentina lang ang meron. Si Darna mismo, meron dapat, kaso ang inconsistent sila e; 'yung opening theme ba dapat ang leitmotif niya, or 'yung Patuloy Lang ang Lipad? I prefer the former as a leitmotif, though, kasi mas pang-superhero talaga 'yun.

Malamang sa malamang, mas pinag-iisipan ko pa itong Darna kaysa mismong si  /ˈdʒeɪ ˈɑːr ˈbiː/, but, eh. Gusto ko lang sabihing dapat may Custodio household leitmotif; pwedeng gamitin 'yung BGM noong unang bumisita si Regina sa bahay ng mga Custodio. And while we're at it, why not have leitmotifs for Narda and Regina? Mainam siguro kung malapit-lapit sa theme music ng alter ego nila, pero distinct enough to be considered a different piece. Meanwhile, gusto kong malaman kung may letmotifs din ang ibang characters sa MCI. Meron naman yata, hindi ko lang napansin pa. I'll check kung mayroon sina Ibarra, Maria Clara, at Damaso. Aabangan ko rin kung mayroon si Elias. Ang sigurado ko lang ay mayroon si Padre Salvi and it's so recognizable. I checked kung shared ba 'yung music na 'yon kay Padre Damaso (making it a prayle letimotif instead), pero mukhang hindi naman. Kung hindi ako nagkakamali, sa episode 10 ng MCI nagsimula ang paggamit sa Salvi letimotif, nang magkita sina Ibarra at Salvi. Another instance na ginamit ito ay sa episode 23 noong "nangumpisal" si Klay kay Salvi. I admit, late kong napansin na may leitmotif si Salvi, sa episode 37 na nang biglang dumalaw si Salvi habang nag-uusap sina Maria Clara at Ibarra tungkol sa gagawing pagtitipon; I believe dito rin pinakamatagal tumugtog ang Salvi letmotif. Kapag nainip ako, babalikan ko ang previous episodes ng MCI to check kung may iba pang leitmotif, at aabangan ko rin kung magkakaroon si Elias. As of writing, hindi ko pa napanood ang episode na base sa Elias at Salome.

Anyway, hindi talaga ako musically inclined. Malimit lang mag-fixate sa details. Kaya gudlak na lang sa akin sa pag-spot sa mga recurring pieces.

Salome by Kaya

This is a beautiful song based around the seductive dancing biblical figure of the same name. The lyrics speak of temptation, betrayal and revenge, all of which are key components of Danica's character arc. When I hear this song I imagine all of Danica's hurt and sorrow finally coming full circle, the chaotic instrumentals and lyrics in the bridge representing her increasing feeling of desperation and loneliness in her darkest hour. The final chours is her resolve to take her destiny into her own hands. And if that makes her the villain of her story, so be it.

And just like that, I think I just explained what happens in her overblot au without actually spoiling anything. Also off topic but I may or may not have drawn Danica as Salome back in high school.

Little Girl Gone by CHINCHILLA

Ironically, this is one of the songs on her mother's playlist but I think it would fit Taima's villain era perfectly. She's hurt, she's pissed and she's so much more powerful than people give her credit for. And in her villain era, Taima is taking no prisoners. She's been nice for too long and it's time to fuck shit up.

Perasaan Ditolak, dan Agape

Quote ikonik dari film Eternal Sunshine (salah satu film favorit saya) yang berbunyi, “Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders.” Quote ini diambil dari perkataan Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, filsuf asal Jerman yang terkenal dengan pandangannya yang sinis dalam kehidupan, terutama tentang cinta.

Jika kamu mengatakan fase tragis dalam mencintai adalah “Falling in love with people we can’t have”, maka Nietzsche sedang menertawakanmu di alamnya. Si filsuf yang penuh sinisme ini mungkin tidak percaya akan cinta sejati, selama hidupnya saja ia tidak pernah merasakan manisnya pernikahan. Pernah, sih, ia merasakan cinta ketika Nietzsche bertemu dengan seorang wanita bernama Lou Andreas-Salomé. Salomé merupakan novelis sekaligus ahli psikoanalisis yang menjadi primadona di antara para pemikir dan akademisi pada saat itu. Hingga suatu ketika Nietzsche menyatakan rasa cintanya pada Salomé, namun perasaannya tak disambut baik oleh Salome. Salome tidak memiliki perasaan spesial ke Nietzsche. Penolakan terakhir Salome pada Nietzsche bahkan lebih tragis, Salome mau menerima lamaran Nietzsche namun dengan syarat Nietzsche mengizinkan dirinya untuk menikah dengan Paul Ree, sahabat Nietzsche. Tentu si filsuf pencuriga yang pernah berucap "The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions,” ini kecewa pada Salome, tetapi berusaha untuk tetap tidak menjadi egois sesuai dengan ucapannya.

Kekecewaannya ia luapkan dalam karya-karya bukunya. Ia memaki-maki Tuhan, menuliskan rasa ketidakadilan, kesepian, kepedihan, dan kegetiran. Sampai akhirnya Nietzsche meninggal dalam perasaan kesepian.  

Cinta kadang memang sepelik itu. Jika cintanya tak terbalas, perasaan seakan menemui jalan buntu. Namun tidak bagi filsuf Yunani Kuno yang bernama Plato. Menurut Plato, cinta sejati seharusnya memang tidak perlu diungkapkan, cinta sejati itu tak terbahasakan, mungkin bahasa mudahnya adalah mencintai dalam diam, itulah cinta sejati. Baginya, kalau perasaan cinta itu sudah diungkapkan maka itu sudah tidak murni lagi. Andai Plato hidup di jaman sekarang dan muncul di thread akun menfess Twitter, lalu berani beropini seperti itu, sudah pasti ia diserang oleh kelompok pendukung confess yang progresif.  

Tidak perlu memperdebatkan opini jelek Plato tadi, toh Plato semasa hidupnya hingga akhir hayatnya ia belum pernah menikah. Namun, jika opini Plato dilanjut lebih dalam lagi, ada benarnya juga. Cinta itu soal perspektif bagaimana orang memandang, baginya konsep cinta itu ada dua, yaitu: eros dan agape. 

Menurut Plato, eros adalah bentuk cinta yang bersifat fisikal. Eros cenderung mengacu pada cinta fisik, seksual, dan status merasa memiliki yang tinggi. Dengan didorong rasa emosional itu, eros dapat dianggap sebagai bentuk cinta yang individualistik dan egois karena fokusnya pada kepuasan pribadi dan pemenuhan kebutuhan diri sendiri. Cinta jenisi ini biasanya sangat mengharapkan timbal balik. Jika kasusnya adalah cinta ditolak, maka seseorang yang di fase eros ini akan menghilang dari kehidupan orang yang menolak cintanya. Sebab cinta jenis ini mengacu pada fisik, seksual, dan rasa memiliki yang tinggi, maka dapat dikatakan orang seperti ini hanya memuaskan nafsu sesaat daripada mencintai secara utuh.

Sementara itu, Agape adalah bentuk cinta yang paling tinggi dan lebih suci menurut Plato, karena bentuk cinta ini mempromosikan kebahagiaan dan keadilan bagi semua orang (tidak, Plato bukan sosialis). Agape adalah bentuk cinta yang tak terbatas, paling murni, dan tanpa syarat. Dalam fase ini, ia tidak peduli dengan kualitas atau kekurangan yang ada di dalam pribadi orang lain (cakep-jelek, baik-buruk, kaya-miskin, pengertian-atau tidak, dll). Berbeda dengan eros yang cenderung berharap timbal balik dari yang dicintainya, agape tidak pernah mengharapkan timbal balik, tidak pernah merasakan kekecewaan pada orang yang dicintainya. Ia benar-benar bentuk cinta yang otentik dan tulus. Ia mampu keluar dari ego pribadinya, sebab yang terpenting baginya adalah kebahagiaan untuk orang tersayang. 

Orang yang berada di fase agape tidak akan marah, dendam, apalagi memaksa apabila cintanya ditolak. Jangankan cintanya ditolak, individu yang memiliki cinta agape lebih memandang cinta itu tak perlu diungkapkan; tak terbahasakan; mencintai dalam diam, persis seperti arti cinta sejati yang dimaksud oleh Plato. Sebab mengungkapkan cinta itu artinya ia sudah memberi beban kepada orang lain untuk membalas perasaannya.

Kalau ingin mengetahui bagaimana rasanya mencintai dalam fase agape, dengarkanlah lagu berjudul “Bukan Cinta Manusia Biasa” milik Dewa 19. Cobalah, setelah ini dengarkan liriknya dengan khidmat dan renungkan apakah kamu mencintai dengan jenis cinta yang tulus dan tak bersyarat seperti agape atau hanya sebatas cinta fisik dan seksual seperti eros. Bila tak suka lagu lokal, saya sudah menyiapkan lagu versi barat yang merepresentasikan cinta tak terbalas; hanya bertepuk sebelah tangan. Judul lagunya “Love Stinks” dari The J. Geils Band.  Pada kutipan liriknya: 

"You love her, But she loves him, And he loves somebody else.."

Sebentar … kok rasanya lagu ini lebih mewakili perasaan si filsuf pencuriga, Nietzsche, karena liriknya yang menggambarkan seseorang yang mencintai dengan wanita yang disukainya, tapi wanita itu memilih orang lain (Paul Ree), dan berakhir kecewa, seperti lanjutan keseluruhan liriknya. Yes, persis yang dialami Nietzsche: cinta tak terbalas; kesepian; mengharapkan timbal balik. Timbang agape, lagu ini malah contoh dari cinta sebatas eros.

Merasakan cinta memanglah menyenangkan, menantang, kadang-kadang berbahaya, dan memacu adrenalin. Meskipun demikian, orang akan tetap menikmati jatuh cinta, sebagaiamana liminal time. Liminal time adalah periode transisi ketika kita tidak tahu apa yang akan terjadi selanjutnya setelah menyatakan perasaan cinta. Kita harus siap menerima apapun keputusan yang diambil oleh orang yang kita cintai. Namun, yang terpenting adalah kita harus belajar untuk tidak menjadi seperti Nietzsche dalam memahami cinta, dengan merasa kesepian, kecewa yang berlebihan, dan selalu mengharapkan timbal balik.

The lyrics and atmosphere of this song reflects Iris’ grudge towards Lareine-personality.

As the one who found this song for me said, this is not as much of Lareine, but for her. A hopeful song for a broken woman.

Its actually rather sad how well the lyrics actually describe Iris with her partners. She can be selfish, jaelous, and impulsive, yet often unable to see her own flaws.

This song describes Lareine’s feeling for Varg Blacksoul, her doctor.

Shalott - Emilie Autumn

Emilie Autumn is one of my all time favourite artists. “Shalott” is for the last weeks Lareine spent in her hospital room. The time when her obsession towards Varg was born.

This is mostly an inspirational piece. The lyrics, together with the vocalist’s voice going from softer tones to scream, reminds me of the unstability between Lareine’s two personalities.

The lyrics of “Infection” mirror Iris’ yearning to feel close to someone. To feel wanted, and how it turns into a habit of using people to fill this emptiness inside. This is a vicious circle, as its making her feel tainted, and in the end, only feeds her self-loathe.

Another one from Kaya! “Salome” is Iris’ feelings for her friend, Silke. Silke is a lighthouse in her darkness, and she’s been in love with the girl for long time, yet Silke sees her more as a friend than anything.

"Cris, may crush ako." Maria Clara grinned sweetly at Ibarra, and said man hummed in curiosity, "Sino?" Maria giggled and she whispered softly into his ear,

"Crush ko si Elias." Ibarra felt his heart ache, a twinge of jealousy poking at his heart as he heard the name. He forced a smile, "Ah.. si Elias." Si Elias na matagal ko nang mahal hahaha.. ang sakit.

"Yes! Si Elias~ Pwede bang ibigay mo sa kanya toh?" Maria beamed at him and shoved a letter to his chest that he immediately took. "A-Ano toh?" He stuttered. His best friend winked at him, "A love letter~ Wag mong sabihin na ako nagbigay ah!"

He almost frowned, and he wanted to scream. If only he weren't a guy, he would've screamed of his love for Elias a long time ago, he wants to tell Maria, but he can't, how will he anyway?

And even though it hurts, he'll smile instead. He'll do it for Maria.

"Sige."

"Alam mo ba na may crush ako?" Salome asked out of nowhere while she closed her book. Elias frowns, "Hindi ko alam, hindi ka pa naman nagsasabi kung meron na eh." He reasoned. Salome chuckled and rolled her eyes playfully, "Kaya nga sinasabi ko na eh.. maging supportive ka naman oh!" She exclaimed and Elias snorts, "Sige lang, sino ba?" Then Salome grinned so wide, making Elias cringe at how lovesick she looked like.

"Crush ko si Crisostomo~" She sighed dreamily, and Elias felt his world fall apart. "C-Crisostomo? A-as in si Crisostomo Ibarra?"

"Uhuh."

Fuck. Elias wanted to groan. Ano ba yan Salome.. yung mahal ko pa talaga?

He's bitter and so he grew silent as he listened to Salome fuss about how perfect Ibarra is. Jealousy blossomed in his chest, and he hates the way he'd been hiding his feelings for Ibarra to maybe someday confess to him, only for him to have a rival, his best friend nonetheless.

"Ibigay mo sa kanya love letter ko ah! Nahihiya ako eh, huwag mong sabihin na akin toh." Salome smiles sweetly at him, and if she weren't his best friend, he would've gotten mad at her, but he grabbed the letter instead and nodded.

"Sige, bibigay ko."

"Ayy- hello.." Ibarra greeted, smiling awkwardly as he met face-to-face with Elias holding out a letter to him, Ibarra himself holding one as well. His heart is beating wildly but he forces it to keep calm, and Elias was just the same. "May letter na para sayo oh." Elias cleared his throat and exchanged letters with the love of his life beautiful man standing in front of him.

"Ah.. ang angas.. ako rin meron para sayo eh." Ibarra laughed at the coincidence, slipping the letter from Elias in his pocket as he blushed at the attractiveness the man in front of him displayed.

"Aba.. tadhana ba pare?" Elias joked with a rather calm tone but it took him everything to keep his voice from shaking. His own face flushed, and Ibarra's shade darkened. "Siguro nga, tol."

It wasn't long when they said their goodbyes, and when Ibarra opened his letter at home, his eyes were blown wide as he read the letter over and over again, almost fainting at the signature on the end of the letter displaying great cursive writing,

Elias read the letter for him as he walked his way back to home, and his face met the tree as he forgot to watch his steps, too busy processing the letter in his mind, especially the signature on the paper that made his heart go wild,

"Psst, Maria, bebe ko." Salome whispered, looking around the cafeteria to see if Elias or Ibarra were present. With the coast clear, she kept her attention to her girlfriend whom she hid from Elias- and for good reasons. Maria smiled at Salome. "Nasulat mo na ba pangalan ni Cris sa letter mo?" Salome asked, and Maria laughed, "Oo, nakakatawa nga eh, nalungkot si Cris! Akala mo naman talagang aagawin ko, sabi ko sayo may nararamdaman talaga yun para kay Elias eh!" Salome laughed with her.

"Si Elias nakasimangot nung sinabi kong crush ko si Crisostomo. Ayaw pa kasi mag-aminan eh. Buti na lang may kopya ako ng signatures nila sa computer, mas madaling illagay yun sa letter." Salome uttered and Maria gave her a high-five.

"Ano kaya magiging reaction ng dalawang yun?" Maria asked, and when Elias and Ibarra came in the cafeteria, side by side, with awkward postures and shy smiles, Salome grinned,

"Tignan na lang natin kung ano na mangyayari."
