the oliver family reveal scene is such a character defining moment for felix. it reveals how deeply self serving he is as a person. ignoring that oliver is lying, since felix isn't aware of that at this point, felix is forcing his seemingly deeply traumatized friend back into said traumatizing environment because he feels the need to play the savior. "i'm not taking no for an answer. you have to fix this" why is felix insistent upon involving himself in these deeply personal family matters? to the point where he's bringing oliver there against his will? answering his phone and talking to his mom for him? as venetia said, he's known ollie for around six months. he couldn't truly begin to understand a family history that complicated and so opposite of his own in such short time, yet he's made himself an authority on mending this broken relationship between an abusive addict mother and her son. by deception. on ollie's birthday!!!!
the attention is taken away from this aspect of the dynamic very quickly since yknow, we find out everything is a farce anyway, but felix imposed himself like it was nothing. he has no concept of boundaries or overstepping- he cannot handle the word no. you can tell it's not the first time he's said "i'm not taking no for an answer" and it wouldn't be the last. and it wasn't ever even truly for ollie's sake, it was another part of felix's fantasy. it's another part of the role ollie plays for him. felix is a damsel that doesn't understand he's the damsel. he thinks he's the knight. and when his damsel isn't actually in distress, the illusion falls apart. suddenly, felix is the one actually in danger and the whole play is ruined.

Felix loved Ollie !
He may not have understood exactly what kind of love but he loved him.
The beautiful contrast we get of the partying and then these sweet quiet moments together in his room or the pub. The montage of them, partying, drinking, surrounded by others but still wrapped up in their little bubble.
Felix was jealous, petty and possessive. He wanted to show Ollie off to everyone but simultaneously keep him tucked up right by his side. The utter fit he threw about Ollie and Venecia, it wasn't a brother being mad someone hooked up with his sister, it was jealousy that Oliver wasn't giving him all his time and attention.
Tumblr media
Felix loved attention, it's clear, but he thrived in Oliver's all-encompassing worship.

oliver riding felix, hiding his face in his hands and muffling his noises because he's always been quiet and invisible his entire life. he doesn't want felix to hear how broken he sounds and looks just from his cock being inside of him. he hides in the crook of his arm, rolling his hips and gasping quietly, face flushed bright red as he tries to fathom the fact that felix is inside of him, fucking him-- moaning and writhing beneath him...
felix suddenly reaching up and moving oliver's arm, panting and begging for oliver to stop holding back his desperate little noises. telling oliver he so badly wants to hear him moan and whimper on his cock. oliver gasping and cumming right there, sobbing raggedly because felix wants him, desires him in the same way......

felix river catton.
𝔱𝖍𝔢 𝖌𝔬𝖉.
I.
" he was right. river is quite silly. but i suppose you don't pick your child's name imagining one day you'll think about what it will look like carved on a headstone. choose a font . . "
life after the death of a god.
saltburn spoilers. 🍷
trigger warnings ; mentions of death , slight sexual themes.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
oh felix . . beautiful , beautiful felix. not a day goes by that oilver doesn't think about him. his one true love — his one true lust. he misses him , somewhat. life after felix catton hasn't been the same. it seems like farleigh was right. he's clinging onto that one summer , jacking off to the former feeling.
he just can't help himself.
it's been years since saltburn , and oliver cannot get it out of his mind. that time — that place. the people. felix. oh . . oh felix.
he loved him , hated him , despised him , lusted for him , loved him , loved him , hated him. killed him.
what is he to do now ? sit and rot for years to come? that's what he's been doing. after saltburn everything changed — he thought it would be for the better but it's just for the worst. now he knows how poor dear pamela felt.
he clings onto the final moments with felix , the silence , the sound of felix's breath on his skin. i don't know what you are , but i do know that you make my fucking blood run cold.
farleigh was right. oliver may have just been one of felix's pets but felix was more than that to oliver. oliver was a bashful stray dog that felix adopted , fed , and shaped into the dog he is today. he's rabid , almost as if he's infested with rabies.
he goes feral for the past , always rutting onto his bed sheets like a dog in heat. oh how he wishes thing's could've ended better. in truth , felix didn't have to die. but at that point and time oliver thought it would be for the best. but something within him . . regrets it.
everyone moved on — but he stayed there.
farleigh moved on , back to america he trotted to collect his bearings and move on. he's relatively the same . . just alone. after saltburn he has become unable to get close to anyone. unable to make friends - make love , anything. he's a hallow shell of a man now. farleigh still visits the family grave every year.
meanwhile , oliver does not. oliver sulks alone in his bed most days. sobbing like a rotten child into his bedsheet pretending that felix is there coddling him. oliver cannot move on from that time and place. he thinks about it too much. he thinks about the beautiful venetia , and how it was such a shame how it ended with her. but those words , what she called him - everything. he remembers them all.
oliver has to remind himself most days to do everyday normal human things — he has to remind himself that he's still living in breathing while felix's corpse is well past decomposition. felix is a pile of bones whilst oliver is still breathing. it feels wrong.
oliver wasn't meant for this world , oliver wasn't really meant for anything. he should've just went back to the factory where they made olivers. maybe one day he'll come to terms with what happened that summer.
but as the summers pass on and on , he grows older and older . . things don't change. he's feelings don't change. he truly never grew up after saltburn. deep down he's still that nineteen year old oxford boy.
what is he to do now other than rot alongside his long lost love. he deserves it after all. oliver fucking quick isn't meant for anything but death.

hey so tonight i am thinking about how felix had every right to put his hands on oliver's chest and shove him away and yell at him and call off the party and kick him out right in that moment when they got back from his parent's house–
but instead he gently pushes his hands away, almost seems to subconsciously reach for them afterwards, can never actually be mad because he still cares about him and wants to believe things can be okay despite everything.

Hello from Blighty thoughts about Saltburn
As a continuation from my reply to @armands-eyefuckery because BRAIN
Aight gang let's have a lil sit down because there is a big ol angle to the film that I think is getting missed by a lot of folks who aren't from the UK because it's a very uh...
British Thing.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT OLIVER IS FROM THE NORTH.
Cut because Length.
Now look. I am not going to go into Thatcher and Her Crimes, but it's worth a google. I do bring it up in You're Almost Home because...
Lots of people are saying Oliver is upper middle class, and honestly? That doesn't track for me. At all. Yes, his parents have a detached house in a nice suburb and they went on holidays, but there's a lot of Very British Context to them that I really want to point out. Also remember, it's 2006/2007. That is also important.
First of all- Oliver's parents probably never went to University.
Really listen to them. How gullible they are- they believe that Oliver can study at Oxford, and be on the rowing team, and be in plays, and be top scholar. He's always been so clever. If Oliver was anything near upper middle class, his parents would be educated professionals. Oliver probably has dockworkers not even three generations back- his dad has management vibes, but he probably worked his way up in the 70s when all you needed was a good attitude and not to be an obvious murderer.
Secondly- let's talk about the house.
As someone from Down South who has also lived Up North, Oliver's Parent's house would not have been as expensive as people think. Let's assume they bought it in the 1980s- we ALL know that house prices are through the roof NOW, but even today there is a huge gap between house prices in the south and the north. 200k down South might get you a one bedroom flat, if you're lucky. 200k in Prescot can get you a 4-bed, semi-detached HOUSE. Check rightmove.
It is also important that the house is relatively new-looking, because over here Upper Middle Class people aren't really into new build houses- if Oliver was upper middle class, he'd be living in something Victorian or Edwardian. Probably somewhere with a good link to London, especially in 2007. It also means that Oliver's parents may not have even bought it outright- my parents got on the housing ladder via a shared ownership scheme. Oliver's parents aren't rich.
Now, the holidays. Mykonos. Another fun Brit thing is the package holiday. Here's a pretty interesting article about them;
Two adults and three kids could absolutely have gone to Mykonos every year in the late 80s/90s for far less than you'd expect, especially if they paid in installments each month.
I also mentioned about Ollie being from Merseyside specifically, but again. CONTEXT. Although Oliver isn't Liverpudlian (it's important, he's from NEAR Liverpool but not Liverpool itself) the North of England as a whole has routinely been fucked over by those in power. The government AND the royals and the very wealthy. It's still ongoing today- again, another fun source.
Remember when Mr Eats-Crunchies-Sideways called him a Bootlicker? That's fucking IMPORTANT. To many folks he IS a bootlicker. He is highly unlikely to have been raised to grovel at the feet of those with hereditary titles and wealth, and honestly he doesn't. I've written before about how Oliver Denies Felix Things and how that dynamic is important. Oliver likely hasn't been raised with any real deference to The Rich (except Princess Diana).
It also effects Oliver's response to Felix, because goddamn it THATCHER again- it is HIGHLY likely that Oliver has lived through a lot of homophobia. Internalised a lot of it. Felix's parents do not give a shit, but that was not the norm. Again, tried to hit on it in YAH, because times have changed since the 90s/2000s and people change with them, but no fuckin wonder Oliver never responded to Felix chirpsing him like a maniac. He's fucking REPRESSED when he's in Oxford, pals. It also makes sense with that weird Tumblr Dom shit he pulls; he's still fuckin weird about it, he's just being In Charge so he doesn't need to be vulnerable in any way. He is only vulnerable for Felix, and even then he can't SHOW felix that, that would be gay.

the versatility of Cottonquick’s power dynamic makes me feral bc:
Oliver who wants to take. He wants everything that is Felix. His home, his wealth, Felix himself. So it would make sense that he would be greedy with Felix’s pleasure too. Why not? It was his after all.
On the other hand:
Oliver who is so desperate to have Felix attention on him that he will do whatever it takes. He wants all of Felix’s attention, every scrap, every morsel. He’d do anything. Felix is his god. It would be blasphemous to deny him.

Wondering what the pressure must have been like for Annabel. She was obviously sexually compatible with Felix and hoped to turn it into a long-term relationship with the ultimate possibility of becoming Mrs. Felix Catton.
With plenty of competition from India and others, she must have devoted a good deal of time to mapping out strategies to insure that she would prevail. The window for doing this was incredibly brief given all the distractions at Oxford -- things like studying? lol -- and once that window closes, it's over.
In this scene she made a last-minute decision to make out with Oliver hoping it would upset Felix and send him running back to her, and we saw how that turned out.
Of course, Annabel is a minor character and irrelevant to the Felix-Oliver relationship, but I just wanted to have some fun and indulge in a little Saltburn sidequest here and show some sympathy for Annabel.
