were it anyone else , esther would say they were being 𝚍𝚛𝚊𝚖𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚌 , but 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙞 —— and cissnei has her own mysteries wrapped in a box with a neat , little bow .  now esther never pried , not because she didn’t care , but because she knew the subject was 𝚊 𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚟𝚢 𝚘𝚗𝚎 ...... and not that this one the former 𝙮𝙤𝙪-𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬-𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 felt mightily inclined to speak of .  cissnei kept her secrets and esther respected that .  as a friend , however , a flicker of concern gives way to sturdy-some resolve .

❛ 𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙙 , ❜ huh ?  she sways thoughtfully , hands on her hips as the corner of rosy lips tug upward , the smile not quite reaching her baby blues .   she can’t tell if she’s 𝚑𝚞𝚖𝚋𝚕𝚎𝚍 𝚑𝚒𝚖 or he’s just 𝚒𝚗𝚜𝚞𝚕𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚑𝚎𝚛 —— better to play it safe and assume the former ,  wouldn’t want to get on the bad side of the 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙤 in charge .

𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 of an answer that one might except of her and 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 .  ordinarily , esther is more 𝚒𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚙𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚎𝚗𝚝 kind of gal —— after all , why dwell on a past she couldn’t change or look too far ahead into an uncertain future ?  she lives in the moment . for the moment , & 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 , always .

❝ but who a person was and who a person is —— well , you might just find two very different people .  you can’t forget about the past , much less forgive it , and i can’t say if it’s a good or bad thing ... but if the change is for the better , why not give it a chance ? ❞  ‘course , it’s not as if esther takes her own advice , but she supposes that it’s not such a terrible thing : closing some doors , opening others , and leaving some a tiniest bit ajar , 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚎𝚎 𝚠𝚑𝚘 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎𝚜 𝚙𝚊𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚗’ 𝚝𝚑𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 ......

astonishment beams on her face .  sure , the gal admits she has 𝚜𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚋𝚒𝚝𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚑𝚎𝚛 — and everybody from the 𝙟𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙮𝙨 to the 𝙟𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙚𝙮𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙬-𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙠 to even 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙙𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧 himself know not to get on her bad side — but something about the way this kid said it makes her feel a little uneasy , as if she doesn’t want to know exactly what kind of ❛ 𝚕𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 ❜ he sees .
