May 3 post 2 Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud - One of my favorite sunrise views👀 of the San Francisco skyline is from Treasure Island💯. I really think some of my best photos were taken from places where you don't always think about setting up your gear up at sunrise or sunset; because you're not looking directly at the sun. You may not see the sun rise but you get to catch 1st light when it hits the top of buildings along the skyline like these two pics. .. - Photography really opened my eyes and my mind's eye. I first noticed how the sunlight lit up buildings along the eastern San Francisco waterfront by walking from the Ferry Building around AT &T Park (now Oracle Park) and back at sunrise which is about a 3.75 mile walk. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud - There's a street lamp I used as a 📸 marker for my Fisherman's Wharf tours that go through Aquatic Park or to Ghirardelli Square. I can't wait to go back and shoot here. This pic was taken in November of 2018 at 9:30 am on a walk from the Ferry Building along the San Francisco waterfront. Pictured are Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, Aquatic Park and the Maritime Museum at Hyde Street Pier. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud - Black Crowned Night Herons stand still at the water's edge, and wait to ambush prey, mainly at night. They primarily eat small fish, crustaceans, frogs, aquatic insects, and small mammals. Neighbors around the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina District will say "they are loud and dirty birds". Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud - Over the past 2 years I've walked over 3,000 miles, mostly around San Francisco. Sutro Baths in late afternoon is hit or miss for sunset in summer months. On this day I caught a break from Karl. This capture was from one of my longer walks from the Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion to the De Young Museum via Sutro Baths and Ocean Beach. The Batteries to Bluffs and Lands End trails are so scenic. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud Just as the sun was rising this morning I decided to take a walk up the 900 ft (270 m) causeway that connects Treasure Island to Yerba Buena Island and Clipper Cove. Wild Fennel plants in my photos tell you the licorice smell was in the air. A reminder to breath through your nose and take in more than just the view. .. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud This is a view of Coit Tower you can't check off your list until spend a night at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Once you get checked into your room don't just lay around in bed and read my blog, take a walk and look around the building. There is so much history to read about with black and white photos of presidents, celebrities, athletes, foreign dignitaries and royalty that have stayed in the hotel. All are beautifully framed and perfectly hung. 🙌🙌 Or, if you live locally . .. you plan a dinner date on Nob Hill and make dinner reservations at the Tonga Room. You want to have cocktails at sunset at the Top of the Mark and you want to have a drink by the piano at the Big 4 Restaurant so plan dinner before or after those two stops. This is a great way to experience and get to know Nob Hill. Get there early and visit Grace Cathedral and check out the mural in the Masonic Temple and "The Fountain of the Turtles" in Huntington Park. To get this angle on Coit Tower you walk into the Fairmont Hotel and follow the signs to the Rooftop Garden. Walk to the northeast corner of the garden to take this picture. I used my Samsung S10+ on all pics today. It was cloudy. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud Photo 1) There is a new 36 ton sculpture composed of uppermost horizontal girders of the truss section of the, now demolished, eastern span of the Bay Bridge. Tom Laughlin is the artist and he calls this work "Signal". The public opening is not until September 22, 2019 so maybe that is why it wasn't humming. Photo 2) is for perspective facing Yerba Buena Island. Here is the link for the public opening: https://www.signalsf.com/ Photo 3) Put 1 + 1 together and it looks like Chef Parke Ulrich's Mersea Restaurant is expanding or moving into a much larger temporary facility in time for the September 22 "Signal" opening?🤯 Also in photo 3) is the new concrete pad with brand new stainless steel benches. I have photos with the old decrepit concrete and rebar benches. They're classics now. .. Walking San Francisco & Thinking Out Loud WHAT??? A Crane? Is that all you got? It was foggy and cool this morning on Treasure Island. I was shooting-the-moon yesterday and I saw other things but they didn't register. The crane in this photo is building the Treasurer Island Ferry Terminal that opens in 2021. Ground breaking was on September 10.
