beater syndrome or: "why people misunderstand vriska and kirito for the same reason"

so a little while ago i made a random shitpost that ended me up with this image

and it's come back to haunt me with ungogly revelations which i will now share because i have to it feels important

context: originally i was just gonna make a post about kirito, explaining how people misunderstand the character and *why* (and why it's completely understandable); but then i realised there was a real pattern here and the subconscious connection that led to the above cursed image suddenly made sense in my mind

so here it is:

the reason kirito gets mischaracterised so often has entirely to do with the combination of:

a) most people only having watched the aincrad arc (<;keyword watched),

and

b) the fact the anime gives a twisted image of the characters due to the fact the internal dialogues from the light novel get cut out completely

the end result of this is that when most people talk about "kirito", they're actually talking about "the beater", and those are crucially *not the same*!

the "beater" is a *role*, and a very specific one at that; it's what happens when you try to "own up" to accusations and unreasonable expectations (internal or external) to such an extent you're always playing the same self-destructive part, and because it's fundamentally a defense mechanism you just get stuck in it until things change drastically enough it finally feels safe to stop playing that horrible role and try to remember who you really are, after everything's over

that's what's happening here; when people say a character is "a kirito" they're actually referring to the beater, and the reason those characters suck ass is because they unironically use what's actually a coping mechanism in a horrible situation for a character's actual personality; of course it sucks! because they're doing it wrong!

it's about trying to convince yourself being a loner destructive scapegoat is "cool" despite always having a nagging insecurity it might just not be, but given the circumstances you're in too deep and so the sunk cost fallacy compels you to keep going

it's not *actually* cool; if anything it's depressing

now i think it's becoming obvious how all of this applies to vriska as well, but there's one crucial difference: the death game never actually *ends* for vriska serket; even now in post-canon she's arguably the *only* character who seems to still be playing sgrub, or maybe she never even stopped flarping

except for one version of her. for (vriska) the game did finally end. and they're the same

the beater dies when the game ends, and we see it happen to both of them

Let's talk flower language.

First let's start off with the number of flowers.

A bouquet of three roses means “I love You”

Now, we look at the color of the roses. Which are blue.

When it comes to love, a blue rose symbolizes mystery and a longing for the impossible.

Blue roses represent yearning, mostly towards someone out of reach, or for a relationship that cannot be fully realized for many reasons. Such as unrequited love, or because the person they love is no longer among the living.

Blue roses have essentially become a representation of the mysterious and the unattainable.

Blue Roses are Eugeo's whole motif, and his and Kirito's bond are the heart of the entire Alicization plotline.

A blue rose is what Eugeo is to Kirito. Eugeo is unattainable, because he's gone. Kirito can't get Eugeo back.

Eugeo is the pinnacle of someone Kirito loved and then lost.

I don't care what anyone else says, Kirito loved Eugeo and in turn Eugeo also loved Kirito in his own way, and that is not up for debate. There was something deeper than friendship going on between them, and anyone who denies that is a blind fool. There are so many subtle hints, metaphors, and scenes alluding to something more than platonic love between the two of them.

There was a deeper kind of love there, something that cannot be truly defined. It was a love that transcends all explanation. The love they shared is something that you could never put a label on.

I love them so much and my heart hurts for them. Eugeo should have fucking lived. Just... fuck. Let Kirito be happy! Give him his best friend and beloved Eugeo back. This is why I love the Lycoris video game, cause Eugeo lives.

If Eugeo survived, and made it to the “Real World,” what would be the first VR game Kirito would play with him?

Bonus Question: In ALO, what race do you think Eugeo would pick to play as?

I definitely think that ALfheim Online would be the first VR game that Kirito would play with Eugeo, especially since the floating castle Aincrad is there. He would want to share with Eugeo the world that made Kazuto... well... Kirito.

Kirito would want to share the first step in his journey that led him to Eugeo. I feel like they'd have their first date on the floating castle of Aincrad too.

As for Eugeo's race in ALO, I've seen a lot of people depicting him as part of the Cait Sith race. It seems the fandom really thinks he'd be Cait Sith.

But I honestly think he would be an Undine, due in part because Eugeo has strong connection with the color blue, and also ice is frozen water. So being a water fairy that can turn his water into ice for combat just fits. Oh, and Eugeo is a decent healer, and Undines have healing capabilities. So, while I absolute adore the idea of Cait Sith Eugeo, it would make much more sense for him to be an Undine. Oh, and I can't forget to mention these set of scenes with Eugeo and Kirito on a boat together, on the water.

Eugeo seems to go hand in hand with water/ice, and by extension Kirito goes hand in hand with Eugeo and with water/ice. But yeh, I believe that Eugeo should be Undine.

Sword art online anyone?

Okay so about two months ago my whole house got sick. Like My mom got an infection, I got strep, my step dad got Shingles. It was BAD. So I needed something to comfort me and pass the time, I rewatched my first anime, Sword Art Online. and omfg, watching it all the way through, like SAO, ALO, GGO, and then Alicization and Ordinal Scale, it was so fun and exciting! I was reminded why i got into anime and got into art in the first place and it was just so much fun.
