5 Spots not-to-be-missed Sailing from Alicante to the Balearic Islands
Undecided between a fun, relaxation, or cultural holiday? Choose them all and sail with us from Alicante to the Balearic Islands!
CONTACT US NOW FOR YOUR CHARTER FROM ALICANTE
It often seems difficult to divide a holiday by allocating the right time partly to fun, partly to disconnect from everything, and partly to our cultural interests. With this premise, we at Your Boat Holiday have thought of an itinerary to offer you that combines all three of these needs.
Let’s find out why a sailing holiday in the Balearic Islands departing from Alicante is for you!
The right mix of culture, relaxation, and fun. This is the purpose of our next itinerary which in 7 days will allow you to discover historic cities, visit dream beaches and also make a stop in one of the most popular nightlife spots in the world.
Alicante, the perfect starting point to reach the Balearics
Alicante is not only an ideal city from which to sail to the Balearic Islands but it is also a city rich in history and different cultures that have mixed over the centuries.
It is located in the middle of the Spanish Costa Blanca, famous for being a very tourist area full of breathtaking beaches and is easily accessible both by land (the city is well connected to the main Iberian centers such as Valencia, Madrid, and Seville) and especially by air. The convenient Alicante-Elche airport is located only about ten kilometers from the city center.
What must-see tourist attractions in Alicante?
Alicante is famous for its long beaches of fine sand and transparent waters, such as Playa del Postiguet, an urban beach of rare beauty with numerous services, playgrounds, and sports facilities.
The real symbol of Alicante, however, is Santa Barbara’s Castle, a fortress that dominates the city from the top of a promontory overlooking the sea. If you visit the city, you cannot fail to go up here to enjoy its breathtaking view.
Instead, just stroll through the pretty city center to be surrounded by churches and historic buildings or along with one of the symbols of the city, Explanada de España, Alicante’s “Rambla” covered with mosaic tiles. This place, as well as offering shade from the sun with palm fronds, is also a popular haunt for an evening drink.
What stops will we discover within our tour?
Set sail from Alicante we will head to Formentera Island where we will discover some of the most popular and fascinating beaches of the island such as Cala Saona, Es Arenals, and Platja de Ses Illetes. After circumnavigating Formentera we will head to Ibiza where we will go in search of pure fun, stopping at the famous Platja d’en Bossa to spend a night in the most glamorous and exciting clubs. Finally, we will head west to return to Alicante, but not before visiting one last wonderful beach, Cala D’Hort.
VIEW ALL THE BOATS AVAILABLE IN THE BALEARIC ISLANDS
So here is a brief description of the 5 places  we will visit on this tour:
Cala Saona is known as the Formentera west coast pearl.
Unlike the open beaches of the rest of the island, it is a small inlet surrounded by cliffs.
It is located in a bay protected on its sides by reddish rock formations while a luxuriant pine forest grows behind it. Its beach is considered to be among the most beautiful on the island, also thanks to its shallow and calm waters that make it perfect for families and children.
Es Arenals is the most popular stretch of the Platja de Mitjorn and is located in its easternmost part. The white sand and turquoise sea make it a truly spectacular place.
Here is also one of the most famous chiringuitos in Formentera, the “Piratabus”, created in the 70s by a German hippy, who transformed an old colored bus into a kiosk. Today the bus is gone, replaced by a small wooden kiosk, around which people gather in the evening to admire the sunset.

Playa ses Illetes is the classic Formentera postcard beach: a white-sand expanse bathed by a transparent sea reminiscent of the Caribbean.
It is hard to find it deserted as it is one of the main tourist attractions of the island, visited by residents and tourists on a day trip from Ibiza. By mooring your yacht offshore, you can enjoy the best without being overwhelmed by the crowds.
Playa d’en Bossa is definitely the main place for all Ibiza beach parties and where the DJ sets music literally never stops. Its location near the center of Ibiza city and the hottest clubs (such as Ushuaia, Bora Bora, Space, and Ibiza Rocks) makes it very popular. You won’t even have to worry about which event to choose because, during the day, dozens of discos and bar area promoters dress up and parade dancing to the sound of music and announcing the nightclubs parties’ agenda planned for the night.
Cala D’Hort is picturesque and fascinating, especially at sunset. It is a very fine light sand beach with 150 meters long and 20 wide. During summer it is often crowded especially because the sunsets that can be admired from here are among the most beautiful and evocative of the entire Balearic Islands.

How do you get to Formentera? Do it on board a yacht!
We are talking about one of the most appreciated archipelagos in the Mediterranean Sea: the Balearic Islands. In this article, we will especially focus on the island of Formentera, seen from onboard a yacht.
If you want to get more inspired, don’t miss out on our other articles about them:
The best 2021 party destinations for boat trip: Ibiza
Enjoy a boat trip with friends in Mallorca
Formentera, unlike its “sisters” Ibiza and Majorca, is famous above all thanks to its beaches, its nature, and the relaxed life that reigns on this island. In fact, those looking for nightlife and entertainment are probably more inclined to choose its “bigger sisters” as their destination. Formentera holidays turns instead into a search for relaxation, basking in the sun on one of its exceptionally beautiful beaches.
This small island has so much to reveal even in its hinterland, among salt flats, lagoons, pine forests, and ancient villages, all visitable with little effort while taking a trip by bicycle.
How do you get to Formentera?
Formentera is a rare pearl in the middle of a precious archipelago. This is why we believe it is worth living it to the fullest, and what better way to experience it than by mooring your charter yacht off her famous coves?
Let’s find it out together:
How to reach Formentera?
The island is part of the Balearic archipelago, is the smallest of the four major islands, and is also the southernmost one, facing the Spanish coasts of Valencia and Alicante. It is located a short distance from the southern coasts of Ibiza and relies on it both for the airport stops and for the numerous ferries that guarantee daily connections.
Why rent a yacht here?
Living a boat charter in Formentera on this beautiful kind of boat makes it even more unforgettable. You will be comfortably relaxed onboard while quickly moving from one place to another on the island without wasting time and without worrying about the navigation that your disposal’ crew takes care of. You will be free to stop every evening in a different port or bay to watch unique sunsets and enjoy a 360-degree view of the nature that surrounds you every day.
In short, staying on a yacht is a unique way to experience your holiday and means giving yourself and your family the well-deserved relaxation but also the right fun, including dives in the sea, water games, and the joy of being together.
We suggest a serious and reliable rental company: Your Boat Holiday. The company offers its customers the best solutions in terms of boat tours and crew expertise. Check their websites and ask them for any doubt or information!

Sunreef 62 in Ibiza
Lagoon 52 catamaran in the Balearic Islands
Astondoa 82 in Ibiza, Spain
What to visit in Formentera?
As we said, Formentera is not only known for its sunny beaches but also as a place with centuries-old traditions.
Starting with La Savina, a small port village located in the northern part of the island. This is the real gateway to Formentera as it is the destination for ferries from Ibiza. It is a good place to moor your boat and go ashore to rent bikes, cars, or mopeds and go inland. Not far away are located the characteristic salt lake of Estany Pudent and the beaches of Illetes, Es Cavall d’en Borras, and Platja de Llevant.
The capital of the island of Formentera is Sant Francesc Xavier, a town of about 1000 inhabitants. It is a very simple and characteristic town with a simple atmosphere, with white houses, squares, and cafes where you can relax while sipping a coffee or go shopping in the pedestrian area of Carrer Jaume, full of souvenir shops, artisan shops, and boutiques.
A very popular hippy market is also held in the city during July and August.
The port of La Savina is 3 kilometers away and the beaches of Cala Saona, Es Calo, and Es Migjorn are easily accessible from here.
The natural reserve of Ses Salines is also certainly fascinating. Established in 1995 and witness to a past linked to the salt extraction, it is a precious testimony of the island’s past and a fascinating tourist attraction. The best time to visit them is during the crystallization of the salt when the collection pools are tinged with a soft pink color, the same as the flamingos’ feathers that come here for feeding. During this period, the plays of light that are created in the sunrise and sunset hours are spectacular and unmissable for any photography lover.
Beaches not-to-be-missed in Formentera:
If you have been attracted to Formentera, the reason was almost certainly for its renowned white sand beaches and its transparent water.
Let’s mention some of the best:
Playa ses Illetes is the classic postcard beach of Formentera: a white-sand expanse bathed by a transparent sea reminiscent of the Caribbean.
It is hard to find it deserted as it is one of the main tourist attractions of the island, visited by residents and tourists on a day trip from Ibiza. By mooring your yacht offshore, you can enjoy the best without being overwhelmed by the crowds.
Es Pujols is a wide sandy beach that is partly equipped and partly free. It has maintained a natural aspect, made even more suggestive by the sand dunes behind it. The beach is accessible via a suggestive walk through these dunes on walkways built to protect their delicate ecosystem.
Cala Saona is located in a bay protected on its sides by reddish rock formations while a luxuriant pine forest grows behind it. Its beach is considered to be among the most beautiful on the island, also thanks to its shallow and calm waters that make it perfect for families and children.
