little inconsequential details i like about The Sea Beast:
only the royalty speak “proper English”. everybody else, and notably the main characters, speak with accents that are usually considered “poor” /“improper”/ or “stupid”
Maisie’s hair when it gets wet looks like how real natural curls do when they get wet
all the actual ship lingo. like audiences don’t have to understand it to still get the gist!
Jacob’s big nose!!
Maisie getting to have a black woman (Sarah Sharpe) to look up to as a role model
all the gender ambiguous/butch characters populating the world

Jacob: Who gave Maisie a knife?
Sarah: I did; she felt unsafe.
Jacob: Now I feel unsafe!
Sarah, arching eyebrow: Do you want a knife?

These two are probably my favorite because on the left they add Sarah and crow and the other one reminds me of Moana.

do you...do you see how easy it is? how mind numbingly easy it is you don't even have to think about it too hard you can just (puts more black people in fantasy) (puts more asian people in fantasy) (puts more pacific islanders in fantasy)(puts more women in fantasy) (puts more nuance in each character design) (puts more depth in each character) do you see do you see this do y

I don't care what anyone says
If you dislike Captain Crow, we gonna have a few issues.
Yes, he's made poor decisions. But for 1 he thought that his son-figure was killed and he was grieving. For 2 his way of life was basically being threatened by the crown.
And remember everything people knew about the beasts was fabricated by the royals so because of then he thought they were bad.
Captain Crow is an amazing character and I will forever love that man.

The scene where Sarah gives Maisie her knife is actually something that can be so personal

I've got to tell you guys to watch the sea beast on netflix. I think it just came out today, but it's already stolen my heart. if the mandalorian, moby dick and how to train your dragon got mashed together in beautiful animation, this would be the result.
karl urban as a blonde bombshell/dad/goofball. a 10 year old ball of rage and righteousness who likes to wield knives. a sea monster called red. a sea bug called blue. jared harris screaming at the ocean. vastly diverse characters with gorgeous designs. sea witches. danger. death. destruction. hope. hair. heroes who are wrong sometimes and that's okay. beautiful music.
I haven't enjoyed a movie so much in a long time. it was insanely sweet and I encourage you to sink into this movie like it's a warm bath and hot chocolate and a hug, mostly because I want another one 🥲 look at these goobers

The sea beast on Netflix is just “how to train your dragon” but with pirates and I’m living for it honestly. Like what more could I want?? What more could I need?? But if I don’t see more Sarah Sharpe content I will lose my mind- as much as I love Jacob WHERE ARE ALL THE SARAH LOVERS? Am I the only lesbian who watched this movie where is the hype for her??
