#survivor 🖤 #Repost @narcissist_survivor with @make_repost ・・・ Many survivors are told that they are not equipped to "diagnose" their ex as someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder because they are "not a doctor." This is a fallacy that needs to be addressed. Contrary to popular belief, most therapists are not trained in narcissistic abuse recovery, or how to treat it. Survivors have often found to their dismay that talk therapy has not provided any information or feedback that would help them to understand narcissism, identify it, or discover what to do to heal from it. Some find that #talktherapy has kept them ruminating on their trauma for years without getting any closer to recovery than they were when they started. In many cases, therapists do not identify that abuse is involved and continue with "couple's counselling" without qualifying safety, and in worst case scenarios fall victim to the charm of the narcissist themselves and engage in gaslighting the survivor or even taking the side of the abuser. You ARE the expert of your own life experience, and nobody knows better than someone who has LIVED with a narcissist for many years day in and day out. You CAN identify what you saw, lived, experienced and subsequently most likely read and researched a great deal about. We need to stop gaslighting survivors, telling them they're not "qualified" to diagnose with their own lived experience because they are "not a doctor." Survivors absolutely know and understand what happened to them in their own homes better than any stranger who sees them for an hour a week at best. #believesurvivors The inspiration for this caption came from @drglenndoyle thank you.
