continuing my self-indulgent effort to turn the cast of TMA into D&D characters, i present to you: tim and sasha! explanation under the cut.

sorlock jon and paladin martin

sasha: sasha is absolutely an actual wizard. high INT for sure, though my hot take is that she doesn't have very high WIS. i went for chronurgy because 1. it focuses more on strategy, battlefield control and preparation rather than pure firepower, which i think lines up well with sasha and 2. it slaps. to be completely honest, i did not have very strong thoughts on what race she would be, i just went with drow because i think they're pretty and i have a soft spot for drow wizards

tim: i know tim would be an obvious choice for a bard but hear me out ok. swashbuckler excels in the open rather than in the shadows, turning combat into a fun little dance. it's about confidence propelling you forward, and the key subclass feature is literally called "rakish audacity" like come on. that's so tim. of course, however, he is also the perfect candidate for a vengeance pally. tim is a bit of a performer but he is also a dedicate protector of his people - very paladin of him! in my mind, he was originally a flashy swordsman (rogue) and started taking paladin levels after danny disappeared, eventually swearing oath of vengeance as a promise to avenge his brother. i considered going swords or valor bard instead of swashbuckler, but (and this is very nit-picky of me, i'm sorry) i just can't imagine a world in which tim was ever a support caster. he's definitely got the jack-of-all-trades thing going on though, so i made him a half-elf. high DEX, high CHA, lots of skills, dancing around the battlefield with a dashing smile and a smite stacked on top of a sneak attack.

sasha could’ve been a major character, she was an archival assistant, but she was eaten by the not!them. if she’d stuck around we would’ve learned her history that’s only hinted at in the text, but she was eaten by the not!them.

when she was eaten by the stranger she was made a stranger to us. she was made unknown, so now we do not know her.

i'm sorry but i don't understand people who think that sasha should have been the archivist because "she wouldn't have gotten manipulated by jonah". no hate towards sasha but first off, this is kind of a reach, given that sasha wasn't really a prominent character at all and we know very little about how competent or smart she is.

secondly, it sounds very victim blamey. jon didn't get manipulated by jonah because he wasn't smart enough. that's not how manipulation works and to say that is absolving the manipulator of their actions and acting like only dumb or dense people get manipulated and that they could have avoided it if they were smarter. (this is especially insensitive considering how jon is heavily autistic-coded)

I've definitely taken inspo from the other lovely works I've seen around tumblr, but I do feel I've brought my own feel to most of them. Each of these is pretty much exactly as I imagined them - though admittedly, I didn't spend a lot of time visualizing the Sashas, you they might reflect outside influences more strongly.

i cant explain exactly why i think this because i have a reason i just can’t put into words but anyone who worked in the archives has vision problems. i mean the amount of art with jon martin and sasha wearing glasses makes it practically canon but like tim wears contacts (he hates the way glasses look) but not-sasha does not wear glasses.

I've seen the AU of "what if Sasha became head archivist instead of Jon" floating around and honestly i am living for it.

Would this mean that Martin would fall in love with Sasha or would he still be in love with Jon? Would Jon even get hired? Would TIM still be in love with SASHA or would he be in love with Jon?? How much do they swap places exactly???

Not to mention the most important bit (in my opinion), would Jon get replaced by the Not!Them?? Would his dark and tired look and sarcastic personality be the character played by the Not!Them or would he be replaced by a Jon that we (the fandom) are not familiar with??

Would this change the outcome of the end of the world?

SO MANY THOUGHTS.
