This box of Tau Sar Piah (豆沙饼) I bought from Mei Kee Bakery (美記餅家) at Yishun Bus Interchange. Coffee Tau Sar Piah (咖啡豆沙饼) – Imagine the classic flavours of savoury tau sar piah with hints of coffee infused within the mung bean paste. Not outstanding but still nice to see something was done to refresh a classic with new flavours.
Tumblr media
Shrimp Tau Sar Piah (虾米豆沙饼) – First time I came across bean paste biscuits mixed with Hae Bee Hiam (Dried Shrimps Spicy Sambal). My mind visualized a weird tasting tau sar piah but on the first bite, my palates registered a pleasant combination of light spicy umaminess mixed with the classic salty bean paste. I must say, I really enjoy the snack.
Tumblr media
Red Bean Tau Sar Piah (红豆豆沙饼) – Just the familiar black coloured red bean paste filled tau sar piah. I know my colleague would love this one. S$1 for each of the flavour but the seller charged me S$5 for 6 pieces.

So just picture, if you will,
Kwicky Koala's Aussie Food Truck getting some especially heavy call for Arnott's Shapes snacks (especially in the more savoury sort of flavours like chicken, barbecue and garlic toast) from as unlikely a customer as Norville "Shaggy" Rogers from Scooby-Doo's crew, for service in such instances where "the munchies" come about.

For a 'fast food esk' Sushi place, the Sushi Co does not disappoint, in fact, it is the best sushi of its class I have ever had. If you fancy a bite, and don't mind spending around average for a cracking lunch come here. Every aspect of this was great, and what more could you want from a lunch place.

I’m hungry but I can’t eat

Can I get some fluffy Klaus headcanons where he’s dating someone who cooks/bakes? Not as a career, but as a hobby
Tumblr media
Klaus and his little baker girl:
When Klaus met y/n she didn’t know that he was a hybrid. She found it odd and somewhat worrying with how little he ate and often cooked or baked things for him whenever she saw him.
She knew her food was good, she’s had many friends and family members tell her so and so if he didn’t eat her food then she knew something was wrong.
Thankfully Klaus has good taste in all senses and nearly licked the plate clean.
He could see the glint of relief in her eyes and the warmth that spread through her when he told her how delicious her strawberry tart was and it made his heart swell.
It was clear to Klaus that this was y/n’s love language, giving to him and caring for him.
Klaus wasn’t used to walking in to a warm meal and a smiling face each night.
Every night he made sure to stop at y/n’s knowing she would have something ready for him no matter how late he showed up. He found that since knowing her, he felt hunger for something other than blood but instead for actual food and for her presence.
No matter what she was making: a stew, a roast, a steak, a pasta dish, a fish dish, something savoury or something sweet. Whatever she served him, was always delicious. And he always wanted more.
He wasn’t sure where she got all the time from to bake him his shortbread, brownies, angel cakes and other little treats. Between him being at her house and her being at work while he’s amongst a war, he didn’t know how she managed to find the time for her hobbies. But he was thankful she did nevertheless.
Klaus was certain that if he weren’t supernatural then he would’ve had diabetes from the amount of sugar she fed him. At one point he questioned if she was trying to ‘fatten him up’ to which she laughed and offered a ‘maybe?’ back to him.
He loved how sweet she was, so soft and innocent in the best of ways. Her biggest worry was that he didn’t eat enough and her main wonder of each day was what she would cook for dinner.
And when she accidentally found out he had a big family, her first thought (after getting upset that he didn’t tell her) was to invite them all for dinner. He was very reluctant but he couldn’t tell her big eager eyes no, not when he knew it was something she would love.
So after a lot of threats and physical fights, Freya, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, Hayley and Hope all arrived at miss y/l/n’s home along with Niklaus of course.
She had made a mix of foods for them so they could pick what they wanted and made some simpler dishes for young Hope as the fancy foods didn’t appeal. It was something that instantly made the Mikaelsons like her and also have them all see the love shine in Klaus’s eyes. True, pure love.
It was the first of many things the mikaelsons would try from y/n.
Once she became a frequent visitor there and they came comfortable at hers, they were almost always snacking on something.
Elijah had a craving for cobblers and crumbles, Freya had taken to anything with strawberries in it, Kol went for anything in sight and Rebekah wanted to try everything at least once. Meanwhile Hope and Klaus were slowly learning some of y/n’s recipes and Hope was making slight alterations to make them more to her liking.
Often Klaus would notice y/n adding a cake to Hoped lunch box and sneaking out of bed early to set the breakfast table.
If she were to ever miss a meal then every mikaelson was on alert thinking she was missing.
If she didn’t bake something for a couple days then they were trying to find what was wrong and when she got too stressed and over baked Hope was bringing brownies to school while the vampires in the compound would come and steal a biscuit.
Everyone loved y/n’s baking and her cooking. Many times Freya, Rebekah and Hayley had tried to tell her to open a coffee shop but she argued she like her other job just fine and liked that food was something she did because she loved and not because it was a responsibility.
The mikaelson home was a brighter place with her cheerful smile and loving nature.
Klaus was so much happier with her caring nature around him. So much warmer as a person, whether or not it was the constant sugar rush or the flood of affection, he wasn’t sure but he loved it either way.

Words change meaning - another example.
@tartapplesauce reblogged my (long) post about Dublin coddle, which mentioned a weird version called "New World Coddle" using chorizo and squash.
TBH, my Mind Palate suggests it would taste quite good, but it's so far from traditional or even well-tweaked-traditional coddle that it's not coddle any more, and should have a different name entirely, possibly in Latin American Spanish.
Also TBH I've already amended the recipe thrice in my head, (1) chipotle powder not smoked paprika; (2) finish with a scatter of toasted pine-nuts; (3) restore the chickpeas mentioned in the Method to the Ingredients where they'd been forgotten.
I've already admitted to breaking the Dublin coddle rules by browning things, so all bets are off. :->
Tumblr media
(BTW, this wasn't ours; @dduane's spine and hip have been rather a trial this past couple of days, so we just took things easy and let the Ibuprofen do its thing.)
Re. coffee mornings, what about various tea-breads, fruit sodas, barm brack etc.? Those could be made either trad or tweaked-trad, and though I'm not sure how they could be made "dainty" like petits-fours and so on, I bet it could be done.
*****
As for the changed-meaning word (getting there eventually) it's "notions" and @tartapplesauce added this link.
"To have notions" in Ireland is to think highly of yourself, often without justification - though if the justification is, er, justified, "begrudgery" will often follow. I've encountered "begrudgery" before, but this version of "notions" is a new one.
I have, however, experienced the Northern Ireland - or maybe just my family - version, which is "don't put yourself forward". This is a bad notion to have when thinking about author profile and book publicity and as DD can confirm, it took me far too long to shake it off.
On the flip-side, having notions can mean thinking outside the box, being imaginative, boldly going where no-one has gone before...
Um, got a bit carried away there... Right to the NYT bestseller list, in fact. Twice. ;->
*****
Neither of those are MY usual meaning.
Whenever I use "I have a notion", either said or written in a post, it's either "I have a thought" with the thinking-intensity dialled down a few notches, or "I have a vague memory of", otherwise known as IIRC or AFAIK.
And the other OTHER meaning of "notions", the one I first thought of (maybe with notions of food already in mind) was this:
Tumblr media
That book was published in 1890, and the title, translated from Victorian English, is something like "Tips and Tricks" or, in more modern English, "Household Hacks".
There's nothing derogatory about it.
*****
DD and I have both posted about Mrs de Salis in the past; all her books are what's usually referred to as "slim volumes". Here are six of them alongside Mrs Beeton's doorstopper:
Tumblr media
I inherited a copy of "Savouries a la Mode" from Mum, who inherited it from Granny, and we've made several things from it, all of which worked - though far and away the best so far are the Parmesan Biscuits, which are...
Well, "more-ish" is a good start, though it doesn't hint at the underlying desire to get in there with both hands...
tumblr
Here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of Mrs de Salis's books are Public Domain, and while we intend eventually to have a full collection of the Slim Volumes, they're also available as PDFs here.
I have a notion that anyone reading this Tumblr will like them... ;->

Please Reblog!
Hey everyone, I'm really sorry to ask again, but could anyone help me with some things I really really need to buy?
I need some money for food, hormones and a new binder, which is a lot a know but I only got £20 for my birthday and I wanted to buy something fun with it rather than utilitarian, which now I'm regretting because my binder has just split :c
I need £38 for the binder, £9.30 for the hormones and whatever you can spare for food (I'll be buying shelf stable foods like dried meats, fruits and sweet and savoury biscuits)
If you are unable to donate I understand but please reblog, likes unfortunately don't do anything on tumblr

Thank you to anyone who donates or shares

A Very Sokovian Christmas
Baron Zemo x reader
First Danny Bunch thing, here we go! This one’s about making an absolute feast with the Baron. (since Sokovia isn’t a real country, and nothing about its Christmas traditions is in the public domain, I’ve mostly taken inspiration from German traditions). Enjoy :)
Tumblr media
Christmas in Sokovia (with a Baron) certainly was a very elegant affair. It was a time of champagne, dancing and evening gowns.
But there was another side to it.
There was the side with hot chocolate, candles and Christmas markets. Spending hours bundled up in a certain long leather coat and woollen scarves, wandering through warmly lit ailes of stalls upon stalls upon stalls. Lebkuchen hearts swung slowly in the gentle wintry breeze, and your eyes flickered in the blazing candle light. Hot drinks made your hands glow with warmth. You decorated your Christmas tree with candles too, fake ones that glimmered when the lights were turned off, catching the silvery baubles in a most enchanting way. They threw patterns upon your walls, telling you of long-forgotten tales of cold Christmas nights. It was those cold yet joyful times that made you glad you had someone to spend them with.
Then there was the food: there was no small way to celebrate Sokovia’s celebrated gastronomy at Christmastime. Roast meats (or meat substitutes), stewed cabbage, dumplings… a whole world of flavours that you’d never experienced before. The tang of the cabbage, the hearty cheeses, the softest dumplings. The biscuits alone were something to behold: you made more Lebkuchen, Stollen and Spekulatius biscuits than you cared to mention. Your arms felt ten times stronger than they did in October, before you started rolling biscuit dough for a living (it might as well have been). Who needs the gym? Making biscuits with your Baron was something you enjoyed immensely. Each and every time you vowed that you would make them perfectly, and with a mess-free kitchen at the end; each and every time it looked as if it had snowed inside your house, with every surface covered with flour, including the two of you. You couldn't deny that you thought it was fun, though.
The Baron introduced you to more different foods than you could’ve tasted in a lifetime, and in return you treated him to some of your favourite traditional winter foods. He accepted every dish you made with true gratitude, taking pride in your country’s heritage and traditions. He never stopped telling you how talented you were; how beautiful the food was. This was one of the things you loved most about Zemo - he was so interested in learning everything there is to know about your home country.
One night you decided to treat yourselves and make a veritable feast. You handled the deserts, while Zemo took the savouries. You worked together in the kitchen, so harmoniously, so in sync, it was almost a dance. Waltzing with potatoes, quick stepping by the oven, tango-ing with mulled wine.
The end result was glorious: he whipped up the finest roast meat/meat substitute you’d ever had, it was glazed with honey and lemon, and the delicate flavours exploded in your mouth with every bite. The cabbage was tart, and complemented perfectly the buttery potato salad and soft dumplings on your plate. He truly was a skilled cook, though he never ceased to sing your praises when it came to the dessert course. The flavours of your desserts went together flawlessly, leaving you satisfied with every mouthful. The simmering mulled wine (can be alcohol free) tied everything together, and it slipped down your throat as easily as water. It warmed your stomach and gave you a pleasantly light feeling. All the spices made your nose tingle, and the sweetness was heaven. Citrusy, cinnamon-y, it really was delightful.
Not even the arduous task of the clearing up could spoil the fun; it was so typical of Helmut to turn it into a game. You were singing, dancing and flinging water at each other without a care in the world. By the end of the proceedings you were all but throwing the plates and utensils around, absolutely soaked with soapy water.
The evening ended with more wine beside the roaring fire; dressed in the cosiest pyjamas and slippers, covered with blankets, and chatting away until it was long past midnight. You thought you could never eat another mouthful of anything ever again, but my goodness, it had been a most enjoyable experience to cook this fabulous feast together - you would do it every night if you could.
Hope you enjoyed it :)
