HAPPY PI DAY!

For this year's celebratory pattern I wanted to tackle a dream project of mine: stitching a functional unit circle. The French knots (all 100 of them!) around the lower circle represent the coordinates of each point (sans radicals and negative signs), and the upper circle shows how sine and cosine can be found by following a point around a circle's circumference.

with the focus on the revolving door again in ep 16, i just want to say a little smth abt the door as an autistic person myself.

i know some ppl are frustrated with wyw's difficulty in using the door, saying it infantilizes her and that "she's a 27 year old lawyer, she's seen a revolving door before, she knows how they work." but the thing is, it's not abt her being familiar with revolving doors at all. at least not in the way you think. it's not "oh look at this lady, she doesn't understand this door bc she's autistic." it's a sensory issue.

autism affects our senses and the way we process them. what many allistics don’t understand about autism is that we’re not just overly sensitive to sounds and bright lights. we can be underly (is that a word??) sensitive to stimulus as well and have a hard time controlling our senses. this includes all seven senses. that right, seven. there’s the five you know, but also two you probably don’t: the vestibular sense and proprioception. these two have to do with body awareness, balance, and spatial orientation. that’s why many of us walk “weirdly” (if i ever catch you saying someone walks weirdly i am coming into your house and punching you in the face) or are clumsy. we have issues with our bodies in relation to the world around us and often have a hard time balancing. i walk into walls all the time and miscalculate and walk into doorways instead of through them. 

so it’s not that wyw doesn’t understand the social concept of a revolving door, but that they’re difficult to navigate through due to her vestibular and proprioceptive sensory issues. i myself have a hard time with revolving doors! so pls no more “this makes her look dumb” or “this is so unrealistic”. if wyw is bad representation and is stupid for having problems with a revolving door, then i’m an unrealistically stupid autistic that walks into walls.

Played the guess the character game with sims characters with my partner the other day. They don't know anything about Sims lore and they only remembered one of them being called manlet from me. But they called Vidcund manlet instead of Pascal. They called Pas science dude instead. I thought it was funny, so I did a size swap of Pascal and Vidcund. Pas is stopping Vidcund from going after someone he's fighting with on the street💀💀💀

Thinking about Tron and how it is a fantasy disguised as a Sci fi. There’s been essays on this before and I think they capture it better than I could put it, but if you really think about it the movie is sold as a Technological fantasy. Imagining this fantastic digital world in the computer, a newer technology now in peoples homes used more than ever. (Seriously look back at old marketing materials and magazines even the novelization and storybook and how they talk about the film.

It’s made me think about how Tron follows one of the staple Fantasy tropes of a “Rightful king”. The throne has fallen to some great evil, a tyrant, and those who should rule are displaced or not there yet. It’s the “everything is utopian once we have the right guy on the throne”. It’s true here!

Once the MCP is defeated the users are restored to their place of “rule” within the system. (It’s more complicated than that but stay with me) and in the real world Flynn has taken his rightful place moving up in the company as he should have originally before his games were stolen. He’s one of the heads of the company post time skip (everyone likes to ignore it’s a time slip and say it was instant. We don’t know how long). The rightful king.
