Scotland has made me branch out from the Tommy trousers and test out the kilt; some of the kit was leant and the kilt was too big but it still worked out!

Tragedy struck when the naval yacht Iolaire struck a reef on approaching Stornoway Harbour in the early hours of New Years Day 1919.
There are no shortage of tragedies I post about throughout the year, to me this is one of the saddest. The Iolaire were carrying troops home from the horrors of World War One, many on the Yacht would have been looking over to the lights of Stornoway when this cruel twist of fate took the lives over 200 Lewis men and 24 crew, the vessel was only about 20 yards from Stornoway Harbour. Some have labelled it the 'crowning sorrow of the war'
A report in the Stornoway Gazette recorded the impact of the tragedy:
No one now alive in Lewis can ever forget the 1st January 1919, and future generations will speak of it as the blackest day in the history of the island, for on it 200 of our bravest and best perished on the very threshold of their homes under the most tragic circumstances. The terrible disaster at Holm on New Year’s morning has plunged every house and every heart in Lewis into grief unutterable. Language cannot express the anguish, the desolation, the despair which this awful catastrophe has inflicted. One thinks of the wide circle of blood relations affected by the loss of even one of the gallant lads, and imagination sees those circles multiplied by the number of the dead, overlapping and overlapping each other till the whole island – every hearth and home it is shrouded in deepest gloom.
Messages of sympathy were received from far and wide, including from the King and Queen and from Lord Leverhulme, who had purchased the island of Lewis the previous year. He also led calls for a disaster fund to be set up and fund raising events were initiated. The Cinematograph Exhibitors’ Associations of Edinburgh and Glasgow arranged to take collections in all picture houses under their control for a week. A fundraising concert was arranged in the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on 14th February 1919, at which Scott Skinner, the acclaimed fiddler and composer and many others performed.
Calls for an enquiry came quickly, amidst suggestions of negligence on the part of the crew. A public inquiry was held in February 1919 and the jury found that insufficient care had been taken on the approach to Stornoway, as the vessel did not slow down or change course. In addition, it was not carrying enough life-saving equipment and there had been delays in the emergency services reaching the scene. HMY Iolaire was equipped with lifeboats for 100 men but was sailing with more than 300. There followed various recommendations, including that the Lighthouse Commissioners consider putting up a light on the Holm side of the harbour, and that the Government should improve travelling facilities for naval ratings and soldiers.
A naval inquiry held at the time was not made public until 1970. It had concluded that no blame could be attributed to anybody as the ship’s log had been lost and all of the officers had perished.
Even before the Iolaire sinking, The Outer Hebrides had a hard war even before the sinking, Lewis and Harris, the two northern islands of the Western Isles, had a population of 34,600 in 1911. Estimates report about 1,500 of those were killed during the war, and with another 201 lost on the Iolaire, that was an immense cumulative loss of young men and fathers.
There were 79 survivors in total of this disaster, it remains the UK’s worst peacetime maritime disaster since the sinking of the Titanic.
There are accounts of drenched, numb survivors immediately walking home across the moors in the storm, too traumatised to wait for help; of women who rushed to the shore to find their sons’ and brothers’ inert bodies among the rocks or surf, their baggage and presents strewn over the sand; of the stream of coffins being taken by horse and cart to be buried every day throughout the following week.
My previous post about Iain Crichton Smith featured a poem by the Lewis man about the tragedy.

We were discussing our favourite Christmas films at work but the only one I’d seen was the Muppet Christmas Carol. However, who needs Christmas films when you’ve got the Thanktival special on DVD?

Silly Doodle of TF2 if they were dogs. I wanted their accessories to resemble their human counterparts, but it can be difficult because putting a dog into human clothes is hard to draw.
Scout: A Boston Terrier. A breed known for being lively and happy, it's friendly and open to strangers. Scout as a guard dog would show you where his owners keep the valuables if you give him even a crumb of attention. Also, they can be bug eyed and derpy at times.
Pyro: A Dalmatian. Duh. With a bag on their head that resembles pyro.
Soldier: Solly is an American Pitbull Terrier. The fact that it's a controversial breed makes it an even better fit! ABPTs were used in combat missions in WWI and II. In WWII they appeared often on war propaganda posters. One of the most well known ABPT was named Sgt Stubby in WWI, and he earned himself numerous medals. Stubby is probably the deciding factor. Soldier has an American flag bandana and his food bowl over his eyes. He smells faintly of rotten bbq ribs.
Heavy: An Ovcharka (Caucasian Shepherd) while originally the breed hailed from Georgia, the USSR pushed to have the breed standardized. The huge dog breed was originally bred for guarding purposes, and has a serious and protective nature. Perfect for guarding his medic. He greatly treasures his Sandvich, a stuffed squeaky toy from the bargain bin at the pet store.
Demoman: A one-eyed Scottish terrier with a sturdy body and a manly beard. My personal experience with Scotties as a dog groomer is that they are absolute assholes who are wary of strangers squeezing their ass glands. I'm pretty sure Demo would bite me too if I touched his asshole. Demo has a squeaky bouncy ball that resembles a sticky bomb, one eye, and a hat that looks like a beanie.
Engineer: An American Bulldog. Mainly this was influenced by their stocky body and their friendly personality. Bulldogs are also a very intelligent dog breed that possess high endurance, agility, and strength. American Bulldogs were bred with the intention that they would be a farm dog. I would have gone with the Blue Lacy, but it didn't feel very Engie, despite being the only breed outta Texas. Engineer dog has doggles.
Spy: A french bulldog. Both the French Bull Dog and the Boston Terrier both descended from the Bulldog, so in a way they are related. While a poodle would have fit Spy as well, Frenchies are pretty expensive in their own right, and the cost of their medical bills might as well cost 5 poodles. They're like the luxury bulldog, and I feel like the fact that Spy and Scout's breeds resemble each other makes it better. Since dogs don't usually wear balaclavas, Spy-dog got his face stuck in a pair of red/blu underwear and started wearing them ever since.
Medic: What dog is more demanding, bratty, and sadistic than a Pomeranian? Pomeranians are extroverted, lively, alert, and highly intelligent dogs of German origin. They can be aggressive to humans and dogs to try and prove themselves. They don't seem to realize how small they are, and somehow wind up ruling the house anyways, even if there are other dogs. I can just imagine Medic-dog commanding Heavy-dog, and Heavy-dog going along with whatever he says. Medic has tiny glasses and a stray hair curl.
Sniper: A dingo. Aloof, mysterious, and a bit scrawny for his size, he's an excellent hunter who can brave the scorching bush and all Australia has to offer.

I hope you don't mind me asking for another alucard x gen neutral reader lol , where they've been studying day and night on learning how to speak Romanian and surprise him , ik the dialect will be different than his wallachian days but he should still understand right?🧐
Learning Romanian for Alucard
Tumblr media
📍•Historical notes:
Romania became an official country in 1867 so should have come from Romania not Transylvania. Bram Stoker wasn't aware of such details. Though due note Vlad III Drǎculea would have been completely forgotten by this day and age if not for the book.
📍 •So Alucard has only been away from his native land since 1897 (some think 1893 as 1897 is the year the book is published. He would have spent 466 years (alive and undead) in his lands. I figure he still did raids, in his undead state, on the Ottoman Turks since they didn't pull out of Europe until after WWI.
I also apologize as I only know her/he in Romanian and not they..it might be ei? Ei is translated as they, them, it. Se is for they, you, themselves. I know a few words by memory but I also use the Reverso translator app as I am American that can speak simple French with a slight cross between Scottish and a German accent. (And it sounds terrible!)
😘•Shall we begin?
•At first he hears whispers of modern Romanian from the bathroom upstairs. Or softly before he manages to enter the kitchen for a really early morning smack.
You are up to something..
•One time you heard him cackle loudly in the basement. Damn it! He's caught on to your surprise. So you keep learning to speak Romanian where he is less likely to hear.
His cackle was on a mispronounced word..
•Though his knowledge of speaking Romanian started out the dialect of the Vlach people in Wallachia. Then as his time being undead reached centuries he would learn the growing modernized version of his language. Though he's a little outdated from the book and learning apps to speak modern Romanian due to not speaking it since 1897-ish.
One night he appears in Victorian clothes to you..
•With a low bow with his top hat in hand, he asks you to join him for a moonlit walk in the Hellsing rose garden.
"Nu este o noapte minunată draga mea/meu/se?" 🟰 [Is this not a lovely night my dear?]
You nod your head shyly. He does know about your surprise. With a deep intake of breath and a release you answer back,"Admir priveliștea.." 🟰 [I am admiring the view..]
"Oh, tu esti?" 🟰 [Oh are you?] He slyly rumbles out with a thick Romanian accent. There’s the rolling colors of red with orange and faint hints of yellow to his eyes. He's become aroused by those mere words in a version of his first language.
"Da, așa cum este priveliștea ta și numai tu prințul meu întunecat.." 🟰 [Yes as the view is of you and only you my dark prince..]
"Acum ai probleme cu dragostea mea/meu/se.." 🟰 [You are in trouble now my love.]
