Album Number Ninety Seven “The Crossing” is the debut album released by Scottish band Big Country. The album reached #3 in the UK; overseas, it hit #4 in Canada on the RPM national Top Albums Chart and #18 in the US on the Billboard 200 in 1983. It went on to be certified platinum in the UK and Canada. It contains the song "In a Big Country" which is their only U.S. Top 40 hit single. Adamson and fellow guitarist Watson used the MXR Pitch Transposer 129 effect pedal to create a guitar sound reminiscent of bagpipes. Also contributing to the band's unique sound was their use of the e-bow, a hand-held device which, through the use of magnets, causes the strings of an electric guitar to vibrate producing a soft attack which sounds more like strings or synthesizer. Time for some 'Universal Audio', brought to you by The Delgados. This was the fifth and final albun by the much-loved Scottish indie band. Formed out of Motherwell, a town on the outskirts of Glasgow in 1994, the band split in 2005 due tp the departure of Alun Woodward, who left due to the band 'not getting the respect or attention he felt it deserved'. He felt he could no longer pour his energies into the band. Comprised of Emma Pollock, Stewart Henderson, Paul Savage alongside Alun, they released their debut, 'Domestiques' in 1996 on their own Chemikal Underground label. 'Peloton' followed in 1998, with 'The Great Eastern' at the onset of the new Millennium. Their fourth album 'Hate', followed in 2002, on Mantra Recordings.
