MIXED COMPANY, no. 5. The Apples in Stereo, Tone Soul Evolution. So much pep. So studiously happy. Almost so studiously happy it ends up ... oddly neutral? But it’s peppy fun. And I’ve been singing “Seems So” for days and days and days now. I guess this Elephant Six collective was a bunch of friends and cohorts starting a label and Neutral Milk Hotel (an upcoming selection eventually) is part of it, and that makes me say, “Ah, maybe this is retro-happy to the same degree that NMH is folkrock-sad.” Maybe, more later on that. There are BeachBoyBeatlesKinksEtc quote marks around a lot of Apples in Stereo, maybe all of it. This album has the lead guy’s girlfriend (wife?) on it. She left him&them eventually. I think I became aware of these guys on one of those compilation CDs Paste magazine used to send out. And then I saw this random album for sale (you almost never see random albums from this era of CD/mp3 dominance at affordable prices). I enjoyed every track the other night when I played it and like I said, “It seems so, I don’t know.... Was uplifting and moving from Australia to Canada a hard process? I'm thinking of doing the same only it'd be by myself without anyone over there - unlike your situation I'm just not very knowledgeable on the process if you could help me a little bit?

it’s so weird because at the time it was a very strenuous process that involved a lot of time and money-saving, but now in hindsight it seemsso simple? i guess it really depends on your situation. really you need to decide how long you’re looking to be staying there for, which will ultimately determine whether or not you will be a temporary or permanent resident. from what i know, and believe me i don’t know a lot, essentially you will have to apply to be a temporary resident, and from there you have to live in canada for a certain period of time before becoming a permanent resident. but i’m not quite sure, you may be able to directly apply to be a permanent resident. ultimately it all depends on what you want to move to canada to do! both temporary and permanent residents aren’t considered citizens, thus i cannot do everything sarah can do, for example, voting. i wanted to study in order to graduate so i’m still on a temporary resident permit, but if we decide to remain in canada we’re going to apply for common law status and i will be a permanent resident, and from there i can become a dual citizen. but that’s just my personal situation!

the cic website can help you further understand your various options :) see here: you can basically take a quiz to determine whether you’re eligible to immigrate or not. if you’re looking to study, you’ll have to apply to schools/colleges way in advance 1) because cic is incompetent and very slow at fulfilling applications and things, and 2) because you’ll need an enrolment verification to send to cic with your application. similarly with a work permit, you’ll need a letter from your place of employment confirming you do, in fact, have a job. so basically once you’ve decided on your route, get applying asap! i am able to obtain health insurance through my university and their student union, i am able to have a part-time job during regular school terms even though i am only on a study permit, etc. canada (can’t say much for newfoundland itself - don’t come here) has offered me a whole range of opportunities and new experience, and of course, countless doses of happiness. but it is an incredibly hard decision - i haven’t seen my family and friends in almost three years now and honestly it just gets harder and harder each day to be away from them. so choose wisely hahaha, because where the distance is big, so is the decision! but everyone deals with adversity differently - i’m just speaking from my personal experience.

luckily i have been very fortunate in my journey because i’ve had a great support system and a girlfriend/place to live while studying here, so your situation will be very different and i do wish you all the best! if you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to keep messaging me! my knowledge is limited but i do have experience with the whole ordeal haha
