i forget that dan and phil are rich rich. like i was wondering how they survived for 5 years with only one of them posting consistently to yt. then i remembered that not only have they amassed hundreds and hundreds of videos on their channels that they can continue to monetise indefinitely, they've also done a radio show, hosted the brits (3 times), went on multiple tours, written multiple books, and sold merch that whole time based off / adjacent to their various projects. assuming they made good decisions with investments etc they're living FINEE. like, they're doing GOOD. like yeah of course they could afford an entirely new house build in london while one of them was basically Out Of Office for 5 years. i just have to remind myself sometimes that my gay dads are not some dudes in my screen getting money solely from my fifth rewatch of i try to give dan a haircut. as shocking as that may be

Sam babbles on about what an honor it is to meet you and how impressed he is that you have lived up to the reputation that precedes you. Giving him a polite smile, you wait for an opening to make your exit. The guy is likable enough, but you genuinely don’t care what he thinks of you.

Honestly, you haven’t cared what anyone’s thought of you in a long time. You know you’re worth. Your value isn’t centered around the opinions of others.

Well respected in the hunting community for your skills and knowledge, you don’t care about the recognition. Yes, you are better than most, average compared to others. You do your job. Save those you can, kill the monster of the week, and then move on. You are perfectly fine with the status quo of your life.

That is until you meet him.

You immediately feel seen in a way you never have before. Entire being—body and soul—flayed open and laid bare for him to examine. Whole existence questioned and accepted all in the blink of an eye. 

Stepping forward, he holds out a hand in greeting. The smile you receive makes your heart rattle the cage of your ribs so violently that you feel sure your chest is literally going to crack open on the spot. Mentally kicking yourself, you physically take a step back and shake your head. 

He falters, his hand beginning to drop, smile fading. The moment of hesitation is your moment of salvation—a redemption you never dared to look for or expected to receive.

A slow smile spreads over your features, and the corners of his eyes crinkle as you reach for his hand.
