hey so you know that philosophical/moral question of "is a selfless act truly selfless if the doer enjoys it? If you get something positive out of improving others lives can you truly claim you did it for THEM and not for yourself?"

yeah, Fuck that, honestly.

That question has value as a thought experiment in certain contexts, but outside of them it's tired and pointless and reeks of "the only way to be good is to suffer, suffering is morally pure" mind rot.

"Is it truly selfless?" Who fucking cares? Life is not a philosophical question. Did your action positively affect another person? Then it was good. The end. The results matter more than your percieved thought crime of Not Suffering for 0.5 seconds

And better yet:

if doing something nice for another person improves YOUR day, then, well, you're a person too so it improved TWO people's day! That's a net fuckin gain, baby! That's what we call a win!

A blue Atlantic cedar (Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca') situated in front of this lovely stately home. This is one of my favourite species of tree, but that's not what I'm here to talk about.

What I'm really liking about this picture, is that whoever planted this tree, likely the family that lived here, however long ago, knew they would never see it grow to maturity and would never see its beauty. Yet, they planted it anyway.

They were thinking of future generations, trying to do something good, to make the lives of their family, who they may never live long enough to meet, better.

I really feel that is something the world is missing right now, forward planning, selfless acts to make the world better for the future generations. Trees planting for example, yes, if we plant millions of trees, and get them all to grow it will be good but selling it like that is unlikely. Instead, if more of us planted 1 tree and cared for it as long as we could to ensure it established, with the aim of it being a gift to our future relations, or anyone who may visit, like with the case of this tree at this house, the world would maybe, maybe be a better place. These simple, and easy, selfless acts, are numerous in what they could be, meaning, there is something we could all be doing, whether it be switch to plastic free products, spread joy and love, or even plant a tree.

The Last Days

In these turbulent times, it's crucial to turn to the timeless wisdom of the Bible to understand how people will behave in the last days. Let's delve into the scriptures, particularly the King James Version (KJV), to glean insights into human behavior as prophesied in the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:1-5: "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come." Here, Paul warns Timothy of the perilous times ahead. People will be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.

Matthew 24:12: "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." Jesus Himself prophesied that as lawlessness increases, the love and compassion among people will diminish. In a world consumed by sin, empathy and kindness will become scarce commodities.

2 Peter 3:3-4: "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation." Peter warns us that mockers will arise, questioning the promised return of Christ and indulging in their own desires rather than heeding the signs of the times.

Luke 21:34: "And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares." Jesus admonishes us to guard our hearts against indulgence, excess, and the distractions of this world, lest we be caught unprepared for His return.

As we reflect on these scriptures, let's consider how they apply to our lives today:

How can we cultivate a spirit of selflessness in a world that exalts selfish ambition?

Are we actively guarding our hearts against the influences of sin and worldliness?

In what ways can we show love and compassion in a society that often lacks both?

Are we living with an eternal perspective, mindful of the imminent return of Christ?

Let's pray: Heavenly Father, grant us the wisdom and discernment to navigate these last days with faith and conviction. Help us to embody the love and compassion of Christ in a world filled with darkness. Keep our hearts focused on Your promises, and may we eagerly await the glorious return of our Lord and Savior.
