Me realizing that most fully verbal people don't experience actual pain when they talk 'too much' during day to day life (please don't quote me on this I could be totally wrong):
Tumblr media
ID: image of Montgomery Gator from Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach, a green alligator animatronic with red eyes, purple eyelids and gold rimmed purple star shades (sunglasses). Said eyelids and shades are hovering against his head, and his mouth is agape, creating a shocked look on his face. His eyeballs, which are wide open due to his eyelids being above them, are looking down and to the left, presumably at something offscreen. End ID
Like what do you mean you don't have a (pretty small) word limit before talking becomes physically taxing? What do you mean that isn't something everyone experiences–

On transabled... how come you always see "transautistic" people saying "I'm autistic but I'm low support & highly verbal transitioning to high support/low verbal" and you never see mid/high support, semiverbal and nonverbal autistic people say they're transitioning to become an aspie? It's almost like we know we can't because we've been trying to our whole lives.

…something been in draft for while:
idk how say this exactly but often like. use what look like binary clear cut dichotomy that have set definition this is this that is that. because oftentimes call “cake” “cake” instead of “flour milk egg baking powder salt etc etc” that kind language faster simplier and nuance can easily put word count 10k+. and. with language communication disabilities not always able translate all nuance into tangible word on paper/screen/type sometimes have to call something with imperfect blanket word. and then you find out other people not really hold as much nuance as you & still simplify your nuance into something binary this this that that
but reality rarely that binary— say on here that nonverbal mean not mouth speak at all all time & semiverbal is struggle all time but can mouth speak some & verbal but actually more nuanced than that like some severely apraxic people who mouth do say thing but not in their control not what they want say & they still call self nonspeaking because it not intentional meaningful speech; or someone labeled nonverbal who actually do commmunicate with mouth words just not full sentence & not full clear pronounce but still labeled nonverbal anyway as almost like microaggression of not recognize their single or two word mouth word phrase as valid enough communication worth listen to; or someone with echolalia that not mean anything with it (vs someone with echolalia that is use echolalia as communication (think gestalts, etc)); or some research showing even able say 1-2 words more ability than those with 0 word; or research debate about where minimally verbal end is it 20 words 30 words 50 words
when combat “go nonverbal” crowd often say there is clear cut about what nonverbal and what isn’t and yeah there is clear cut but also is there
many not ready for this level muddiness & nuance because some take bring nuance as invite to say like “i nonverbal but can still (intentionally) mouth speak” or gateway to claim nonverbality as if fun new identity collect instead of some complicated complex experience with mixed emotion but often some level of grief at some point that get lot targeted awful ableism & discrimination like denied education refuse accommodation like IEP or put in segregated classroom without even consider accommodation in general ed to isolate away from peers n not actual to help nonverbal person where they best thrive, or secluded or restrained, or denied healthcare, denied communication, which all still happen now btw it still common now it not rare obsolete it majority still
which make me feel like this image
Tumblr media
[id: meme. left side is philosophers (school of athens painting) with caption “talking about nonverbal nonspeaking with other nonverbal people”. middle say “vs”. right side image is parent guiding infant to look play at toy and captioned “talking about nonverbal nonspeaking with not nonverbal people. end id]
because sometimes really is that but also even this is binary. thinking about how some motor nonspeaking people without intellectual disability who language okay say their mind intact that they not stupid thus deserve education and not deserve abuse and throw people with ID & language impairment. or how nonverbal nonspeaking from autism so different from (but so similar to) from motor apraxia from cerebral palsy from intellectual disability from genetic or chromosomal disorders from stroke from TBI from aphasia from vocal cord dysfunction from dementia from from from… how talking to someone nonspeaking from primarily motor reasons without cognitive intellectual language disabilities as someone nonverbal because high level autism cognitive language disabilities, we not guarantee understand eachother experience, same with talk someone from acquired things vs mine neurodevelopmental, how what i say about nonverbal here may not apply to someone who not speak not because autism etc
but “if words so meaningless if experiences so boundless let abolish all” not helpful because for all kind way be nonverbal there experiences that 100% not nonverbal there experiences so different from nonverbal “not able meaningfully intentionally speak all the time” for every meaningless there meaningful reason nonverbal people use nonverbal and deserve word “nonverbal” for ourselves and how this difference in experience is intracommunity issue issue within nonverbal nonspeaking community something we have to grapple with and not invitation for people outside to talk about how “if nonverbal so wide, drawing line at going nonverbal & say that isn’t nonverbal is ridiculous and gatekeep” because as much vast different experience there is reason why there community why there this word we all call ourselves and. not one. of the reason is we can slide in and out of not speak and speak daily or weekly or monthly or regularly. there still common theme to what we call nonverbal despite different
wide word isn’t “functionally useless” it just you not know how n when use it
& this conversation not just apply to nonverbal but many other words n other things as well

Anon that was asking for advice a couple days ago again. Thank you so much for answering! Reading your blog helped me feel less lonely because I can really relate to your and other medium support need folks' experiences, being "in the middle" is really confusing for me to wrap my head around. I wanted to ask, how did you start using AAC, especially around your parents? I have an opportunity to buy my first device but I'm so hesitant because of how my family might react(though they know about my diagnosis, I haven't gotten the chance to figure this out with a therapist) and try to convince myself I can speak fine [insert everything is fine with the burning background meme] so I don't need it. But then my mouth fucks up my words and I'm humbled.
Hello anon! Nice to hear from you again. I’m glad that my blog and the blog of others are helping you with your feelings of being in the middle. It definitely isn’t easy.
I was actually in a similar situation not even a few months ago! With parents who didn’t know or didn’t expect me to need an aac advice. What I did was talk to my parents first, you can even text them if that’s easier for you and you’re afraid of rejection face to face. I just explained that communication was becoming harder and I was gonna try out aac. The thing was, I didn’t leave it up for debate. I simply was informing them. They were luckily understanding and apparently I was the late one to the party with figuring out I was semiverbal haha.
If you don’t have understanding and supportive parents then it can be hard. The best thing to do if this is the case is just try and not care?? Having unsupportive parents is hard and I hope this isn’t the case for you.
Starting out using aac is a HUGE learning curve for everyone. Don’t be discouraged if things are hard at first. They will be. I started out simply, using it at times even when I didn’t need it. And practiced ALL. THE. TIME. Even if you’re sitting in your room, have conversations with yourself.
For starting out using it with your parents, it’s honestly just getting the guts. I started out slow, first using it with trusted and accepting people in my family, like my sisters, then I did my parents with just small requests, then I started conversations. It took a lot of courage and time. Give yourself some grace during these times cause oh boy your anxiety might be through the roof.
Try and make it as fun as you can, customize your device as much as you can too. Starting out is the hardest and I don’t know your family life. If your parents aren’t understanding then do what’s best for you. I wish you the best of luck!!
Thank you for the ask!

Semi-verbal culture is turning internet memes into scripts for every day conversations: a way to signify light heartedness to NTs without directly tone tagging, and so you can Appear Funny even when the NT humour makes no sense to you.

i love you fellow autistic ppl. if love does not vibe with u the message i mean to say gets across by replacing it with "i care you" but i am following the meme format
i love you nonverbal autistics i love you semiverbal autistics i love you hyperverbal autistics. i love you autistics who were in special ed i love you former gifted kids who burnt out i love you autistics who weren't either. i love you autistics with fictional or nerdy special interests, i love you autistics with special interests in history esp if that special interest relates to your culture's or people's history, i love you autistics with special interests in "stereotypical" things like trains or airplanes, i love you autistics who don't have a special interest at all i love you autistics who have multiple special interests.
i love you autistics who can't work i love you autistics that love their jobs because they get to do what they like or just like the routine, i love you autistics who have a hard time working but have no choice but to try anyways. i love you autistics who were diagnosed late i love you autistics that were diagnosed early i love you autistics that never got diagnosed at all. i love you autistics who need a lot of care i love you autistics who don't want anyone caring for them i love you autistics who end up taking on the caretaker role.

i love you autistics whose needs aren't being met no matter what those needs are or where other people think you place on the "low-mid-high" needs spectrum. i love you fellow autistic ppl. we are stronger when we listen to each other

One fact/hc for each Jakobslock:
Wainwright likes sleeping under a ridiculous amount of blankets, preferably weighted. Literally this meme
Tumblr media
Alistair knows how to cook quite well, but most of it is just how to cut and prepare meat of various big creatures. Still, he makes really good stew, and will gladly tell you the tale of how he killed what went into it while you eat it.
Angel paints. It's both something she enjoys and a form of therapy, exercising her brain and giving her an outlet for her emotions. She prefers painting landscapes to people - people are difficult, and require more precise movements, which she sometimes just doesn't have the spoons for.
Troy's still a streamer, but not culty. He varies his content, but mostly plays PvP and/or RPG video games (sucks at most games that don't fit into this category). If the Borderlands universe has a WoW equivalent, he's playing it and he's maxed. Kinda a tryhard, but talks to his chat frequently and sometimes brings someone from the fam over to play splitscreen or react to something.
Hansuke spends the most time getting ready in the morning out of them all, even though he doesn't gel his hair up anymore. He also likes putting stickers or paint on his cybernetic arms - in lieu of painting his fingernails.
Lazarus has a sweet tooth, but at the same time ze gets over-sweetened very easily. Ze's favorite sweet food is cookies (or biscuits, depending on which "man of the house" you ask) for this reason - sweet, but not too sweet.
Rebekah is semiverbal, meaning she doesn't speak most of the time. Thankfully, both Hammerlock and Wainwright know sign language (the latter is specifically familiar with the variety used in corporate settings, the former knows a few variants thanks to his travels, including the aforementioned corporate variety) and taught it to her and the rest of the fam. She invented sign language names for everyone she knows (most importantly for "Wainwright", which is a distinct word from "Jakobs"/"big boss", unlike the "official" corporate sign language)

first impression of kris: who is this. they look nice... and small (gets distracted by everything else)
impression middle: AND THEN. and then snd then. look at me okay? so the bakesale is selling hearts donuts and choco diamonds. of course the hearts donuts are for susie - they give her the most healing. so i assumed NATURALLY the choco diamonds did the same for ralsei. the narration said someone REALLY likes them, and they were green and ralsei shaped, and who else would like tgem in the party? huh? huh??? and then ralsei reacts less to them than i expected. so i gave them to kris andfhgun hfufjjgvujfp jfbuvjfk hbfuchbhuvhiduci
impression now: this is my fucking. this is KRIS DELTARUNE do you HEAR ME??? they're so strong and smart and they have IMPECCABLE FASHION and i am so PROUD to know them. they are silly and they took ballet lessons as a child and they're friends with noelle deltarune and they're semiverbal and they're NONBINARY. THEY USE THEY/THEM. they miss their brother and they are skilled with memes and speedrunning and they are sixteen years old LOOK AT THEIR HAIR and they still wear a striped sweater!!!!!!! i just hope i can be friends with them someday.
idea for a story: honestly just wanna write kris doing anything. something with them being happy. yeah.
unpopular opinion: i think i mentioned earlier that kris is semiverbal? yeah it just makes me happy when they don't talk gshdiydig also it's interesting to write!!!!!! it's like no pronouns
favorite relationship: the lancer fun squad. thank you...! goodnight !!!!!
favorite headcanon: uhhhhhhhbb one of my friends introduced me to this idea and i latched onto it like duct tape. kris is like me they have a chest and don't bind or whatever they're just fine with it. gender. also they're filipino :3 ALSO!! them having only one eye

hey, so liek yk when your brain does that little Autism thing where u just cant speak at all for a certain amount of time? Yeah? Cool- anyways when that happens for me I also feel like I cant really 'speak' in text either (like I cant directly text someone because it also feels like talking in this dumb brain) so usually I use a morse code thing (text to morse code) but like idk I somehow feel ableist for doing this when I'm in a nonvocal (lmk if 'nonvocal' is bad I learnt it from a yter and liekd it-) state cuz like it isnt speaking but this brain sure as hell thinks it is- so yeah is it liek bad that my brain does that when in a nonvocal state?
hey! I haven’t heard the term “nonvocal episode” before, so I can’t say if it’s good or bad — but any of my semiverbal or nonverbal followers are free to voice their opinions on that matter!
secondly — that’s not bad or wrong, because it isn’t something you can control. everyone deserves to be able to communicate in the ways that help them and feel comfortable for them.
just keep in mind that not everyone has the spoons to be translating your morse code messages, so try not to be too upset if people aren’t able to communicate with you when you’re in that episode (unless there’s a different communication style that also works for you).
sometimes I can only communicate in emojis and memes, and during those times I just try not to communicate at all, but that’s a personal preference. I know it’s not possible for everyone to choose to just be silent.

Lore/Mira/Fritz here and this is a personal side-blog!
Last Update: Mar. 11, 2024
Tumblr media
System, SEAsian, and bodily 26. Follows from @loreofthefritz (main/dbz blog).
About:
This is a blog of us making text posts about issues, our life, or a little bit of both. There are also a lot of media we're obsessed with and a lot of things we find interesting.
A lot of us are semiverbal/nonverbal/selectively mute and we struggle with hearing so we ask that you kindly share a caption or transcriptions of your videos especially if you're sharing it to us specifically. Thank you for understanding <3
What we mean by semiverbal/nonverbal/selectively mute is...
That most of us have a hard time verbalizing our thoughts because we don't use words on each other when we talk. Sometimes we experience a verbal shutdown; we won't be answering asks, DMs, and won't be talking in the tags. Please be patient when that happens, we will be back shortly. Even if you find us posting text-heavy content, it doesn't mean we're currently not experiencing a shutdown, sometimes we just post those that have been in the drafts a long time ago during this time.
Some of us write and we intend to post some of them here and the other things we create. However, please do enjoy our blog for the meantime!
❗️This blog may post suggestive things on extremely rare occassions but never fullblown NSFW❗️
If there's any issue or problem at all that you want any of us to address, feel free to slip an ask or DM!
We mostly no longer tag for rbs unless we want to see them again. Anything else you want to know you can find in our carrd.
