Serviceberry blooms. While working at the vegetable garden these past couple of weeks, I have been seeing so many insects and pollinators just buzzing around with no flowers to land on and it just broke my heart. So happy to see more and more flowers coming out

The beginning of May,

my favorite month of the year, is also the point in time when the serviceberry blooms. And everybody comes to pose in front of it. (male Rosebreasted Grosbeak, Blue Jay, Grackle (‘tis the Count himself!), MoDo, female Redwinged Blackbird, female Rosebreasted Grosbeak)

Assorted April flowers from my home (and a few cute daisies spotted in a neighbor’s lawn).  Regrettably, I missed my chance to capture the earliest cherry blossoms and the violets that came in before the tulips.  (I’m planning on putting in some muscari to fill out that bed with the hyacinths, which looks more like a sea of mulch than a flowerbed.)

Happy Friday! This Rock Pigeon and its friend were clumsily snacking on serviceberries in Brooklyn Bridge Park. They definitely had trouble balancing while foraging...was so fun to watch!
