gonna do my own adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that's entirely the same except the poison scene goes on for a bit longer. Juliet drinks the poison that makes her go to sleep but Romeo drinks poison that supposedly kills him but it's actually a mislabeled vial of the first poison so Juliet wakes up and drinks some of that poison and then Romeo wakes up and is like "oh shit this poison doesn't work, here Juliet has some poison!" and he drinks that which is of course the go to sleep poison and then Juliet wakes up again and is like "What the fuck" and then Benvolio comes in and is like "My boy Romeo is poisoned! I'll join you bro." and now he's asleep, and then Juliet is like "I need some wine to process this" - Drinks out of the poisoned cup Romeo poured sleeping in and then Romeo wakes up again and is like "JULIET AND BENVOLIO?!" and he's so pissed but also confused and is like mentally 'well if drinking this poison twice brought my friends here i guess i'll drink it again and see what happens' and then Juliet wakes up again and she's like "Okay hold on. Let's see how this plays out" but she can't because then Fortinbras shows up and is like "I'm invading Verona! Fuck you!!!" but then Juliet splashes some sleeping poison in his face and he's out now and then Romeo wakes up and Benvolio dies because he was allergic to sleep poison and also the lion from Pyramus and Thisbe comes and kills them both The End

THOU, THEE, THY, THINE. SAME THING RIGHT?
NO.
Although they seem very similar, Shakespeare would be in tears if he saw how most people mix them up. lets save William the misery and teach you when to correctly use thou, thy, and thine.
THOU
Thou = You (in subject form)
"Thou art killing me." "Art Thou crying?"
THEE
Thee = You (in object form)
"I want to kill thee." "My dog ate thee in my dream."
THY
Thy = Your (before a word that starts with a consonant)
"Thy mother." "Give me thy duck."
Thyself is used the same as any other thy+word combination like "thy mother" but without a space
"Take care of Thyself."
THINE
Thine = Your (before a word that starts with a vowel)
"Thine unibrow is evident." "Thou art on thine own."
Now Shakespeare can truly rest in peace.

Shakespeare: I will create two teenage characters who are explicitly proto-postmodern examinations of the nature of character and fate within fictional narrative. I am their creator and - like their parents within the narrative - I exercise complete control over their fates, no matter how much they struggle against it. They are born like Athena from my mind and doomed to die by my pen, by my complicity in the narrative negligence of them, by my own actions and wishes-
Actor: cool, what's their names?
Shakespeare, father of twins named Judith and Hamnet: uhh…. Juliet and Hamlet.

In honour of his birthday, I'm going to rant about some of my favourite roles of the global treasure (yes, I'm promoting him from the ‘national’ status), David Tennant. Feel free to add your own.
Tumblr media
Fourteen Doctor: This might seem like an odd choice to start with when there are popular choices like the Tenth Doctor and Crowley, but this character holds a very special place in my heart. I've been a fan of DT for about 6 years now and it started with Doctor Who. I love Ten but Fourteen is just more dear to me. Mostly because he made me excited again for one of my favourite TV shows. As a character, he has all the trademark qualities of the Doctor - the genius level intellect, endless compassion, and love for new adventures. But he is somehow more mature and softer, and I loved this development. Also, that blue coat and that (1) button - you know what I'm talking about.
Phileas Fogg: Such an underrated TV show. The chemistry between the trio, the adventures, the title sequence music - there's so much to love about this. And Fogg is such a real character. So far from perfect, this man will often appear as aloof, vain, self-absorbed and even a coward. But I think Phileas is one of the best roles ever played by Tennant. Yes, he's flawed but he's also intelligent, so incredibly kind, and yes, even brave. If you haven't watched this show, I highly recommend it.
Alec Hardy: So different from most other charming roles of DI, Hardy is a sad wet cat. He's grumpy, not nice, and just really tired of the world (who can't relate though?). His reluctant friendship with Ellie is one of the best parts of the grim show. And the fanfic lover in me can't stop screaming about how whumpable he is.
Crowley: I was going for the top three kind of ranking but the thin dark duke slithered his way over. And how can you not love Anthony J. Crowley? From this pure delightful joy while creating stars and nebulae (I can't get over David's face and the happy noises he makes in this scene) to his reluctant and vast love for his Angel and the earth, Crowley is very easy to fall in love with (take notes, Aziraphale. I know you love him but please use your words. Crowley, at least, tried).
I really wanted to add more characters, especially the Shakespearean ones (I love Hamlet, but Benedick has my heart), but the list won't simply ever end then. So, I'm just going to say name all the ones I love and end it here - Simon Yates (There She Goes), Dave Tyler (Single Father), Harry Watling aka The Sexy Vicar (Inside Man, this show was so freaking stressful but I loved David's character), every single Shakespearean character he ever played (even the ones I haven't or probably won't get the chance to see - cries in Macbeth), and, of course, Scrooge McDuck (DuckTales).
So, thank you DT for gifting the world with some of the best, most adorable, wholesome, gender-enviable characters to ever exist. (Except for the creeps, freaks, and ruthless murderers, which we kind of love as well). Happy Birthday!

Lord Byron’s journal entry for April 19th 1814. He expresses his depression after the Bourbon Restoration:
"April 19. 1814.
There is ice at both poles, north and south — all extremes are the same — misery belongs to the highest and the lowest only, — to the emperor and the beggar, when unsixpenced and unthroned. There is, to be sure, a damned insipid medium — an equinoctial line — no one knows where, except upon maps and measurement.
‘And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death.'*
I will keep no further journal of that same hesternal torch-light; and, to prevent me from returning, like a dog, to the vomit of memory, I tear out the remaining leaves of this volume, and write, in Ipecacuanha, — ‘that the Bourbons are restored!!!' — 'Hang up philosophy.'** To be sure, I have long despised myself and man, but I never spat in the face of my species before — 'O fool! I shall go mad.'***”
* Macbeth ** Romeo and Juliet *** King Lear

I'm turning hamlet characters into warrior cats. Reasoning for hamlet below
kitty hamlet had his fur shorn & dyed at the beginning to represent his black clothing in the play's first scene, its actually a very very light yellow and he's quite fluffy. It grows out over the few months the play takes place, grey/black tipped though because of the dye.

I really believe that a lot of things have changed in this world but recently I realized that maybe not so many things have changed. maybe the only thing that's changed the most is the way we see things.

Happy birthday to the one and only David Tennant!
This is my second contribution to the @dtfanzine (digital zine available)! Absolutely adored his version of Hamlet and I was so thrilled I got to paint this tribute to the play! Obviously I had to include the skull and the castle, both are iconic elements to the play. By the way, did you know the castle in the background is the real deal? It’s the Kronborg castle, in Denmark aka Elsinore.
Prints are available in my INPRNT (for anyone outside Europe) and my Ko-Fi.

One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:
It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and
Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.
