I bet in PIDW, there would have a been a chapter where Luo Binghe accidentally got turned into a woman, and decided that instead of immediately fixing this, she needed to go undercover in his harem.

And what it was supposed to be was dramatic look at harem politics, with Binghe automatically trusting the wives he already trusted, but is that a good thing? They all trust Luo Binghe, but they don’t trust each other.

What it would turn into instead is cat fights.

At some point, a wife tries to kill Luo Binghe, for being the newest wife. Airplane was going to have it be Ning Yingying or something, for the shock value, and even had hints leading up to it. But then he would have gotten cold feet and instead the culprit was either a random wife or maybe Little Palace Mistress. At which point, Binghe would reveal himself, and the next three chapters would be him with whatever important wives that were featured having sex. ~Lesbian Sex~, written poorly by a guy, because the way to fix Binghe’s problem was duel cultivation. Like always.

Peerless Cucumber hated the chapter. He hated it even more when Airplane abandoned whatever plot he had half way through. He hated it even more when, as Shen Qingqiu, he now has to deal with a female Luo Binghe, who is taking the chance to act as cutesy and ‘little sister’-y as he could to his Shizun, because that’s what he thinks he likes in woman lol

Shen Yuan doesn’t know how to tell him that he doesn’t like women, partly because he hadn’t even admitted that fact to himself!

There's something I don't see talked about enough in the SVSSS fandom.

The System.

I just received a comment on one of my fics - which has post-canon SQQ and SQH able to still use social media - suggesting that it would be very easy for people in the real world to point out that these characters using fake accounts to post on real life social media sites would easily be doxxed and the System would have no ability to do anything about that.

Something I have noticed among a lot of people who read this particular book is that not a lot of consideration is given to the very thing orchestrating everything. We often think of the system as a ridiculous guide or rule book that exists solely to give the protagonist what he wants/deserves. We don't really approach it for what it is.

This was my reply to that comment:

Doubt it. The System is able to kidnap people from their worlds and place them in other worlds and bodies in those worlds as punishment. And if you don't do as it wants, to the specification it doesn't directly detail, it can send your soul to an alternate version of the present world to be tortured in another body. I sincerely doubt an abstract, otherworldly being like that, which never receives consequences for anything it does because there is apparently nothing that can canonically challenge it, is going to be threatened by doxxing. If it can create things, link universes together, steal souls, and can be anywhere at any time, I wouldn't expect it to be incapable of manipulating people's perception. I even mentioned how in this fic, it WILL erase SQQ's sister's memories if he chooses to reveal his identity to her, but it becomes too much for her to handle. This suggests it has power anywhere and can do whatever it wants. So, in my mind, if someone actually tried to doxx their accounts, it's either going to lead nowhere, lead to somewhere fake, or the info will be stripped from their lives entirely the moment they find anything/nothing.

It was a very nitpicky kind of comment in my opinion, which warranted this response, but my response just made me realize that the System is effectively an amortal, omnipresent, and omnipotent Entity. It literally doesn't go away. We even think it's over and the Extras tell us, via SQH, that it's still there and still in control.

Think about it.

Think about every single thing that happened because of the System's actions or demands. It literally never faces consequences because there is nothing that could hope to punish it. I've only read 1 fic where higher beings step in to punish the System for kidnapping, coercing, and torturing innocent people for its amusement.

Because that IS something it can do. With ease. And seems all too happy to do.

The System is very dangerous and it's weird how this is something people forget when reading fanfics. SVSSS is the kind of book where crack ideas can work in the frame of the canon story because a character like SQH exists. Because he wrote PIDW with every single plothole and contrived story beat for the sake of money and survival, we can have the weirdest shit happen and blame it on his lack of imagination when writing PIDW. It doesn't need in-depth nitpicking to make it make sense. MXTX gave us a very large and generous sandbox to play in.

You don't need to rationalize a crack plot. And you should always keep in mind that canonically, the System is a terrifying Entity capable of outrageous things. It shouldn't be the deal-breaker that the Entity that kidnaps, gaslights, coerces, tortures, and manipulates people is capable of fantastical feats in a fanfic.

Shang Qinghua: I thought it would be fun.

Shen Yuan: You what.

Shen Qingqiu turned to Mu Qingfang. "How could he know that? Shang Qinghua was older than I was when I joined the sect. I wasn't named Qingqiu until years later." Mu Qingfang knelt by the side of the bed. He had a way of making himself softer, nonthreatening, that annoyed Shen Qingqiu both for the saccharin quality of the affectation and, privately, his own inability to immitate it. One might catch more flies with honey, but Shen Qingqiu has only ever had vinegar in his arsenal. The young Shang Qinghua didn't seem comforted by it, and leaned away warily as Mu Qingfang settled next to him. "Do you know where you are, Shang-gongzi?" he asked. The young Shang Qinghua swallowed. "If he's supposed to be Shen Qingqiu, then this is Cang Qiong Mountain, huh?" The doctor nodded. "Yes, that's good. You remember entering the sect then?" "Entering the—no! What is this, some—some isekai shit? Into my ideas? This—this isn't real. I'm hallucinating." "You know who we are and where you are, what makes you feel it must be a dream?" "This isn't real. Au where Binghe drags ‘Peerless Cucumber’ to HHP to be his Qi battery, and Shen Yuan just goes with it, because what’s he supposed to do now that he’s been fed Heavenly Demon Blood? Run? No way!

This was fine for him, as long as Binghe never realizes who he actually was!

Except Binghe has been entering his dreams since he got there, mostly by accident. Binghe had been trying to find his Shizun’s dreams since he died, to get some proof of his soul out there, and now he’s finally found him!! Shen Yuan is panicking, but luckily he looks like Shen Qingqiu in the dreams, so Binghe should have no reason to suspect who he was.

Except Binghe is the protagonist, and incredibly smart (when he wants to be). He clocks immediately that Shen Yuan is Shen Qingqiu, except he doesn’t have all the facts here. Why would his Shizun, who was terrified of him last time they met, be so calm around HHP with him as SY?

The actual answer is because SY has less things to fear from Binghe in an immediate sense. The answer that Binghe comes to is that SY doesn’t remember being Shizun and that whatever soul transfer happened messed with his memory. This is not helped by Shang Qinghua, who, after being interrogated by Binghe, fearfully blurts out that yes! Yes that’s exactly what happened!

(SQH, being a bro. Or trying to, at least)

SY is told absolutely none of this.

Binghe then spends the next amount of time trying to jog his Shizun’s memory, both in dreams and irl, going to far as to drag LQG over to him! Of course, he doesn’t tell LQG what’s happening, or who SY, so that meeting dissolves into screaming quickly.

Binghe has also caught on to the long looks SY would send him, and the ‘romantic’ tension in the air. He comes to the conclusion that his Shizun loves him, but is too upright and moral to date someone he had taught. It couldn’t be because he was a demon, because SY doesn’t care. Maybe he had trauma from a demon? All this only had one solution!

Seduce SY so that, once Shizun gets him memory back, he would be forced to admit his feelings!

This plan ends horribly.

A blessed soul on AO3 has made several Chinese universal deity terms known to me, and thus it is with absolute delight that I announce that I finally have a term that's used in-universe to describe Shang Qinghua by people who don't know his 'proper' celestial name (ie, Airplane).

It's 上帝, "Highest Deity."

Because it's pronounced 'shangdi.'

And like.

Shangdi Qinghua.

You know that I'm legally required to use this term as a result of all this, right? Like, the other options may as well not exist, I am obligation bound to use the term Shangdi for him.

...

...oh my gosh, the Heavenly Officials are totally going to call him 'Airplane Shangdi-di' while he's in his mortal incarnation, he's so small and didi-shaped at the moment-!!!

(Unless I'm using all this wrong, in which case please gently inform me of how to use it right, please, I want to be able to use this term for god!Airplane so bad-!!!)

you know what. i think the best part of writing shang qinghua is that i get to use ten million exclamation points. does he actually talk like this in the novel? bro, i don't remember! i don't even remember if he talks like this in the fanfiction i read, or i'm exaggerating my memories! but it's sure fun!

Little known fact about Shang Qinghua: he was actually real fucking good at flying.

Was he shit at every other aspect of being a cultivator? Absolutely! But this shit, he had locked down. And why not? Why wouldn't he? Wasn't that the smartest thing to work on? The life of a cultivator was fraught with peril! Anyone in their right mind would do their best at being their best at running away! Flying was the de-facto way to make sure you stayed alive!

Besides! The oldest dream of humanity was flight! People have always looked at like, birds or something, and gone, "Wow, I wish I could do that!" Shang Qinghua certainly did!

And that was why he was the best messenger on An Ding Peak!

He never understood Bai Zhan. Why pick a fight to get your heart racing when you could leap off a cliff into free fall? You could have your split moment of panic, sure, if you were really into that -- but then you'd land on your sword, and not, say, uncertain death.

Which was exactly what Shang Qinghua just did.
