Today was the last DND session for a three-year campaign and I am big sad :(

One of the players brought whiskey for a last toast, which was very kind of them. I had never had whiskey before. Turns out I do not like whiskey. Unsurprising.

It tastes like slightly nicer hand sanitizer.

#blue chatter #it was a flavored whiskey as well #everyone else who had it said it was rly smooth and sweet #so I don’t think I super wanna know what regular whiskey tastes like #it was supposed to be like vanilla caramel flavored or smth #I was told it was like cream soda and that was a LIE it was like disinfectant #with a vanilla aftertaste #the campaign went rly rly well though #I’m seriously going to miss it #the final boss battle was just pure catharsis we absolutely whaled on that dark abberant goddess #she got Destroyed #an entire section of the continent restructured bc of the removal of her corruption #I rly like that my character got to be disabled at the tail end of this campaign #they wielded experimental magic that wasn’t supposed to work and resurrected someone who the Keeper very intentionally kept dead #it worked because they partially fused with Arawai the goddess of life and became her aspect on earth #but becoming partially divine in a mortal body takes a toll #they had more and more limited mobility and the more they cast magic to compensate the more of a toll it takes #functionally that meant my movement speed was reduced #and I lost more abilities after each combat as the consequences of overextending myself caught up to me #I wish I’d gotten to play this longer to see how this ended mechanically but it was a lot of fun to get a character who is both #very magically competent and still disabled and that still affects their ability and they still get the dignity of risk #to choose whether to continue casting or not knowing the consequences of doing so #it is very much a fantastical disability which I flavored heavily off of chronic fatigue and a mobility disorder #in-game their skin became hard and brassy around their joints which make them difficult and painful to bend #they lose a lot of sensation and fine motor control #thankfully they have a lot of money from their adventuring so they can commission an accessible house and mobility aids #and their friends help take care of them

And this is going to both save and destroy Jiang Cheng as he carries this weight alone.#Heartbreaking stuff! The way in Knives Out that the entire Thrombey family constantly subjected Marta to racism for years ranging from micro aggressions to outright threats of deportation, that she knew all their fucked up dirty laundry and how they all were constantly exploiting Harlan's wealth, that they excluded her from Harlan's funeral and each blamed everyone else for it, and that they immediately dropped all pretenses of condescending civility when the will was read, yet she spent almost the entire movie sympathetic of them and wanting to gift them the fortune Harlan left her before finally standing up for herself in the last hour

The way in Glass Onion that Helen outright hated the entire "disrupters" group for at least ~10yrs before the movie even took place and made her opinion explicitly known, that her acting as her twin sister being jilted was so easy to maintain because she hated the entire group so much, that she didn't at all humor their extremely conditional "comradery" with her cause against Miles, and that in the end when everything was said and done she didn't stick around to watch them all turn on each other because it didn't matter anymore if they did or didn't

Marta's kindness got her the house.

Helen's justified fury burned Miles' down.

New idea spawned.

Another, as if this brain rot hasn't fully taken over me for like the last year and a half, DPxDC.

Anyways.

Ghost King!Danny and/or VERY powerful Danny and/or Ancient of Space.

And deaged Dan and Danielle(Ellie) (plus Dad!Danny)

And a cult summoning!

So this really alarming and powerful cult is trying to summon a powerful ghost (aka Danny) to come give them power or destory or ensalve the world etc etc. Only thing is, they got the summoning wrong and instead get baby Ellie and toddler Dan.

Also they're in their human forms right now too.

No one is happy.

The cultists are upset and wondering what they did wrong, the JL and/or JLD are upset children, babies, are on the battlefield, and Dan isn't happy cause he was in the middle of coloring a spaceship in his coloring book and the people in the robes are getting louder and louder and going to wake up Ellie from her nap and Daddy just got her to sleep and-

Yep. Someone is yelling at them now and Ellie is awake from it.

And...

She starts crying from being woken up.

Not even a few seconds later, the sounds of this plane of reality being ripped opened is heard and the sudden frosty chill of ice is felt.

Along with an angry dad voice of.

"Who woke my daughter up from her nap?! I just got her to sleep!!"

Halfas are like selkies. Or more like they’re similar to many animal spouses of myths and legends, trapped in (mostly) human forms should they lose their cloak.

That at least, Vlad warned Danny about within the first time of realizing what the other was. It’s a line neither will cross- not even the timeline where Dan came into being. An unspoken acknowledgement of not crossing such a boundary no matter what happened.

It’s not exactly something Danny thinks of, really, especially not that he’s now survived highschool and practically moved across the country. The common thread tying together how mxtx treats all her well-rounded character across all her works is that a character's past is as real as their actions. That means that a character's tragic past is a key part of their character and should be considered while analyzing them. It also means that their actions are also their own and must be considered when analyzing them. One does not negate the other. The trauma that a character experiences in the narrative is not erased by their shitty actions, but those experiences also don't redeem their immoral behavior. Everyone must live with the consequences of their chosen actions, regardless of what drove them to make those choices. That is the lesson.
