“when you play go, you pursue your desires in silence. you seduce, and you fall. you strip each other bare. and if your partner doesn't reciprocate, then it's just a game of go.”
go as an overarching symbol throughout the glory, both figuratively as a representation of dongeun’s revenge, and also as a metaphor for class and relations (between her and the men in her life, i.e. yeojeong and doyeong).
on a relational level, go is a game of seduction. it’s a mental sword dance, so to speak. dongeun learns it with revenge in mind - she plans to catch the interest of doyeong, the husband of the girl who destroyed her life. she uses go to approach him - she seduces him the very first time he sees her play, so much that he can’t get her out of his head. she uses go to entice him; she wins before he even knows that he’s playing.
dongeun learns go for the purposes of ensnaring doyeong, but it’s yeojeong who first teaches her go at all. and it’s go that becomes a cornerstone of their burgeoning relationship as well. throughout the seasons, go helps both of them, as something that centers them, tethers them to current life. for yeojeong, his sessions mentoring dongeun in go were the only thing that created a schedule for him in his most turbulent time (after his father died, etc.). it becomes their mode of communication - he asks her to make a play so that he can know she came by. a silent way of saying i’m alive.
and then there’s dongeun approaching doyeong to play go, then them meeting again at the park he designed. yeojeong also approaches doyeong to play go, also purposefully - the man who taught dongeun vs the man she learned to play for.
but for dongeun, go is never about the men so much as it is about herself. go becomes something she loves for what it is, a game that builds territories, a game where the enemy can be slowly and methodically destroyed as you take all their territories, like how she plans to take everything from yeonjin. it reminds her of the dreams of being an architect she had before she had to drop out of school from the bullying/assault.
doyeong says that one of his go teachers tells him that he was born holding the black stones. when dongeun plays with yeojeong for the first time, she says she has to start with the white stones, since she’s the beginner. that’s how they play, for months. when doyeong meets dongeun after finding out the beginnings of the truth, he says that this game is more difficult than the ones he’s played in the past (and she beats him, the first time they play prior to that meeting).
the black stones represent the upper hand, the wealthy. it’s a class metaphor, especially when related to doyeong. yeojeong also starts out with the black stones, maybe because of wealth, maybe because he’s learned it for far longer. maybe because life was kinder to him. dongeun starts at the bottom, with the white stones, because she has nothing and knows nothing.
but when she places her first stones on the go board, she plays with the black.

i have this one hc of luis thats he taught ashley lighter tricks :3, idk it just felt like smth he would do (to me) and i rlly like it ^_^ mainly bc i just luv ashley and luis as family/gen, they are so dear to me >_<
YEEEEESSS YES YES YES OMG you’re so right!!!
I don’t think I’m alone when I say I am in LOVE with their dynamic in the remake, like the way Luis is so worried about her safety first and foremost???? Or the way he asks to take her hand to see the blood first????? OUGH I LOVE THEM
I can only imagine that Luis probably didn’t have anyone to teach him the lighter tricks he knows, and if he DID, they’ve most likely been gone from his life for a while- so being able to teach Ashley something he had to learn on his own and watching her get better at it with his help is so AHSNDHDNJXHDS ITS SUCH A SWEET IDEAAA
Also you just KNOW Ashley would be GOOD at it too. Like I just KNOW she does funny little tricks with her pink flip phone and the idea of her wanting to learn so she can impress and/or annoy her friends/family/Leon etc is SO FUNNY. She’s like Hey Guys Watch This and pulls out a lighter in the middle of the White House and makes everyone panic

i also think some people's portrayal of act 3 shadowheart is making her too nice, uwu smol bean who loves animals or whatever. like yes, that's part of her "new" self, but that is also not all of it. and it's so boring when people make that her entire personality. her act 3 romance scene has her still being playful and teasing like in her act 1 romance scene. some parts of her act 1 self is still in act 3, and even if you say that her "meanness" or "snark" is because of her upbringing in shar's doctrine, you don't just unlearn that behaviour overnight.

oihguiuhj omg. bee going back to the comet is givng me like last unicorn vibes like idk. like she used to be a immortal otherworldly being that was then forced to experience life and the bad and good things that come with it. but now she's back at her home with her sister mother thing but since she's gone through the experience of being with guto and hunter and stuff she could never be the way she was before she was taken from her home. would she even feel like she fits in with the rest of the comet anymore. she already didnt feel like she belonged on whatever planet fusionsprunt takes place in but what if now she feels like she belongs nowhere??? sorry for rambling, my brain is infected with bees.

So I never realized that Astarion's cantrip ability comes from being an Elf actually, I always thought it was from being a Rogue.
The dndbeyond page mentions that High Elves tend to have an affinity for magic, and use the Wizard spellcasting list and mechanics for it.
And while BG3 doesn't specify between Sun and Moon High Elves (of which Astarion is probably the later) the FR wiki mentions this about them:
It's not really talked about at all during the game, but Astarion definitely has at least this tiny bit of magical ability. Even more so if Arcane Trickster is chosen as his subclass later on.
Firebolt is his default cantrip, but it's default for everyone so I'd say it's up to interpretation if that's what he would have chosen. With his constant discussion about how much he loves the warmth of the sun, I feel like he probably would have taken firebolt, or at least maybe changed to it after he was turned.
He would have had this one singular magical ability with him for most of his life, both as an elf and as a vampire. Maybe he ignored it, maybe he relied on it, for self defense or maybe even comfort. Cantrips are the one thing you can almost always reach for, even when you've been disarmed.
There's a chance he might have had some further arcane knowledge in the past, but I feel like he most likely just didn't personally care to explore it. It might've not been worth his time as a magistrate. But, alternatively, he maybe 1) wasn't allowed to pursue it during his time under Cazador's influence, or 2) he actually did have some more magical affinity, but it was wiped out with the tadpole, as it was with Wyll.
Anyways, I feel like this can add a lot of fun extra context to his interactions with spellcaster Tavs or Gale!

Here’s a special Alcibiades sketch (he is feeling thankful). I really appreciate how many people enjoyed my drawings of him recently🥹the sketch was actually the first og post to get more than 100 notes NOT that that is the most important thing ever, but so unusual for my posts. I will respond to all the kind comments I received, which I loved reading so much, and they all mean a lot to me <33

I also did very well on my Plato midterm and I found out one of my friends from class also ships soc/al and we were both the first person we met irl who ships it😭 there were amazing vibes this week in general. It just makes me really happy to think there are so many people who will allow me to share the things I love most with them.
