I think Shery's perception of the Shepherds is so funny . They're like hardened killers when out on a mission but at the base they seem harmless 😂

Have mercy, baby, on a poor girl like me You know I'm falling, falling, falling at your feet I'm tingling right from my head to my toes So help me, help me, help me make the feeling go
Shery Acquell ( @shepherds-of-haven ) and my own OC, Brygita "Bridge" Sinuraya, as drawn by @serahlink! 💕sometimes you see a woman so sweet and kind you think "oh wow, I need an OC for her stat." I feel this way with a lot of SHOH's ladies, funny enough.
please, consider commissioning Link if you're looking for someone to create some beautiful art! the results speak for themselves, I think - add to him being wonderful to work with, I can't recommend him enough!

Trials and Terrors
The wards went down.
--------------------
It called to me and so I answered 🤭
Blade’s perspective on learning about the Captain’s (Main Character/Reader/etc) visions.
There is dialogue from Lena included in here as per the canon scene, which is indented show it is her content and not written by me. Just to avoid confusion :)
Can be read at ao3 here

The wards went down.
Muffled curses and a fist slamming against his door came second to the screaming that had struck him to the core, plunging the entire complex into darkness and his heart into his gut.
Blade hadn’t been asleep—no, it was too early into the evening to retire with the upcoming mission—instead scouring through documents of possible recruits when a voice pierced his ears through the silence of the evening. It had sounded as if they were his neighbor rather than down the narrow hall making it all the more harrowing.
Captain.
Trouble and Tallys on the other side of his door brought him back as he nearly ripped his doors off its hinges to follow their lead. His mind took notice that they were in various states of undress, obviously having leaped into action without a single thought. The initial pride of his fellow shepherds was swarmed by irritation at himself, the emotion pumping through him.
His face burned, rising to his ears.
He had experienced atrocities and yet it was their scream that pinned his feet to the floor as if frozen with ice.
“What the fuck,” Trouble ground out, though Blade registered the lack of heat in his words as they all barged into the room only to find… figures sliding about the dark walls. The window was open, curtains thrashing as if someone—or something, his focusing mind provided—had invited themself in.
On the bed was Captain, breath stuttering and hands gripping onto the sheets tight enough to tear. Trouble stepped forward first, Tallys stopping him for a moment and motioning to the walls. The gunman's brow scrunched, but he silently observed them as the sound of someone coming up behind them went noticed but unacknowledged.
Shadows—Blade couldn’t distinguish whether it was one or several without the lights—rising along the walls toward the ceiling.
They were caught, he thought, meeting eyes with the others and feeling the pit in his stomach become more akin to a crater.
Another scream tore from the throat of the captain, this one spurring the fellow Shepherds forward without any care for the mysterious figures that had faded into nothing. All that was left were three shadows dancing along the walls, providing insight into how unnatural the previous ones had been.
“Captain? Captain!” Trouble began, gripping their shoulders and shaking. “Wake up, Captain!”
Blade watched and for the first time in a long one, felt helpless to do much other than watch. His fingers twitched at his sides but did little else as Tallys turned to the doorway.
“Shery, do you…?” Tallys asked as the woman shook her head, Blade turning briefly and noticing she had been smart enough to grab a candle before making her way to the commotion.
“Shit,” Tallys whispered, turning back to the struggling Shepherd that had broken out into a cold sweat, grabbing the glass of water on the nightstand and splashing it onto their face.
“Tallys!” Shery gasped, but then the Captain’s eyes were opening with a desperate inhale, hands shooting up from the sheets and to their shirt. Nails nearly dug into the skin, catching on fabric instead as wild eyes darted around the room as if looking for something.
Trouble didn’t let them go in their new-found consciousness, though his shoulders did settle back into a more comfortable position at the fact they were awake now. Shallow breaths left parted lips; for a moment, their eyes met his own from over Trouble’s shoulder.
Blade’s hands clenched into fists as he offered a curt nod, unsure of whether they could see it but hoping it did.
A final breath left them as they slumped against the mattress, processing and almost confused.
“You were crying out in your sleep.”
He kept his voice level and low, now wanting to startle them any further.
“Are you alright?”
A breath from the man holding them, shaking his head. Letting go, he remained at the edge of the bed and rested his hands on his lap.
“Crying out? More like screaming your bloody head off!"
Tallys scrunched her nose at his description, but Blade knew by the lack of comment she couldn’t help but agree.
"You shouted like the very whores of Tapyt were after you!"
Shery’s careful footsteps were followed by much-needed light. With a voice barely above a whisper, she admitted to the Captain that they had passed out, but that she had been checking in every so often. Blade stepped toward Tallys, holding a hand out as quiet conversation filled the room. She handed over the glass and stepped back some, arms crossed over her chest.
He filled up the glass halfway, placing the pitcher down and handing it to the captain as Trouble asked a very valid question.
Are you prone to night terrors?
“Thanks,” they whispered to Blade who nodded again, watching as they drank slowly. They wiped at their eyes, Blade reminding his jaw to relax lest he wants shattered teeth. Their eyes met again, this time awfully exhausted and almost nervous.
“It felt real. I saw something…something terrible.”
Blade had half a mind to ask what it was, acting on the urge as they began to explain past experiences similar to that of what happened. His eyes continued to flicker to both Trouble and Tallys, but the three did not intervene unless to ask for clarification or even to let the captain know of what had happened while they were unconscious.
His eyes softened at how they curled into themself at the mention of the wards and compound light sources. The only thing they were not acutely concerned with were the shadows, Blade finding that when he expected one thing from them, he always got the other. He was used to predictability and structure and they were everything but.
They continued about Words—not spells, according to them, but something else entirely—and how they were only for specific purposes. Not magic, but almost similar to that of a God’s touch itself from their description. Blade debated whether this was real, but as they followed their intuition about these abilities, he followed his and knew they wouldn’t make up such lies for the sake of it.
“You probably think I’m a lunatic.”
Never, Blade wanted to say, though instead he shook his head and watched as their eyes widened in surprise.
“I don't know what to think, yet. I need to do some research.”
It was the truth, this was far out of his knowledge range even with the accessibility of information he’d had over the years.
“But I do know you well enough to believe what you're saying. I know that you're speaking the truth. I just can't provide an explanation for why that truth is happening. But I will help you, as best I can."
If you can, the darker parts of his mind buzzed, memories he would rather forget surfacing as Trouble and Tallys talked about whether this would be seen as a boon or a curse. It wasn’t until the two were done that the captain spoke, addressing every person in the room as if they were holding a breath.
"So you're not going to cast me out?"
It was comical, but seeing as how they were a second away from passing out again, Blade couldn’t help but offer a smile he hoped was more reassuring than amused.
"Trouble is an artifact of magical experimentation. Tallys, the sole survivor of an Elven clan that once claimed to walk with the gods. Even I—have my own darknesses to face. You have only stepped into place among us."
The words seemed to be the right ones if their palpable relief was any indication.
“Besides, why would we want to cast you out?"
Trouble asked, with a little laugh, no doubt also amused by their worry.
"Sure, your story is—a bit wild, but if it's true, why wouldn't we want you on our side? Who would I rather have facing down a demon with me, some piddling conjurer or a Mage who has the power to change the world?"
Echoes of their screams faded, replaced with the warmth that came from the sound of their laughter.
Blade sobered a bit at the realization that as playful as they were, he hadn’t seen them laugh so freely in their time with the Shepherds. Sure, they had offered a grin or a smirk. A quirk of the lips when he would play along with their antics or even a chuckle if the situation called for it.
“Well, with that, is there anything you need, Captain?” Tallys asked, their expression calm if not a bit lighter than before. “Would you prefer company or…?”
The tension in the room nearly returned at the idea of something happening again—the wards left unspoken to not cause any more conflict within them.
“I’ll be fine,” they assured, head tilting to the side as they offered a slight smile. “What more could I do when I've gone and snuffed the lights anyway?”
Tallys' lips twitched as Trouble pouted and pointed a finger at them.
“Hey, if I light them all again and your weird shadow things come back for a visit…”
“ Trouble.”
“What? I’m just saying!”
"Well, say less. There is magic for a reason."
The bickering made Blade sigh, fingers moving up to dig into his temples. When he turned his attention back on the person sitting on the bed, he couldn’t help but notice how their eyes were downcast, fingers picking at the sheets absentmindedly. A slight frown formed on their lips as if it belonged there, Blade feeling his shoulders fall.
“Rest easy, Captain,” Blade offered, their gaze lifting to meet his own. The twitch of their lips was welcome, eyes crinkling at the edges ever so slightly.
“Thank you, Commander. You as well.”
Turning to everyone in the room, Blade offered a nod of farewell and made his way out of the room. As he walked towards his room, he could hear the other’s voices as they bid each other goodnight. Even as it grew muffled, he could hear the undertone of nerves—fascinated, concerned, yet avoidant.
Everyone knew it wasn’t over, whatever this was.
Blade just hoped when it came time to face it, the captain knew they weren’t on their own.
Not anymore.

not today but someday (hopefully) I will write a thing about how Shery makes Bridge feel safer and more secure than anybody else ever has, bc Shery is an earnestly compassionate and loving person that she can depend on. like a port in the storm. a person that refuses to become as cruel as the world has been to her and that, to Bridge, is the most beautiful possible thing a person can be
