लघुकथा: संगीता पाठक

दाजी छह वर्षीय चिंटू दा और आठ वर्षीय माही को बड़े हावभाव के साथ पंचतंत्र की कहानियां सुना रहे थे। कहानी सुनते-सुनते दोनों बच्चे सो गए। बहू उन्हें अपने कमरे में ले गई। फिर दादाजी भी सो गए। रात ग्यारह बजे उनकी नींद खुली तो वे पानी पीने के लिए रसोईघर में गए। तभी उन्हें बहू की आवाज सुनाई दी जो उनके बेटे आकाश से कुछ कह रही थी।

A hand letting go of another hand/ someone walking away and closing a door behind them/ leaves falling off the trees in autumn/ someone waving a goodbye while seeing a beloved off// love, separation, death.

But at that one moment of separation when our eyes met for one last time, if my lips could part and the voice could've made it's way out of my throat i'd have said it.

Mat jao.

But what does words matter when even your tears are worthless? If you couldn't see it in my eyes, would you have stopped if i asked you to?

Love is not a preserved flower that would stay at it's peak beauty for as long as 35 years if taken care of. It is a naturally bloomed flower in spring and in autumn, you must've to let it go. You've got no choice except to witness the death of something you cherish so dearly.

I’ve been thinking of creating a Tiktok account under the name Sobrang Short Film where I can turn my short stories into action.

Here’s a sample of my 30 seconds screenplay:

EXT. BEACH (SHORE) - DUSK

Man stands alone by the shore. He gazes at the horizon. Waves crashing against his feet.

WOMAN

Beautiful, isn’t it?

Man turns to see the Woman. He fixes his eyes on her.

MAN

Yes, so beautiful.

Man and Woman stand there in silence, looking at the magnificent view. Waves crashing against their feet.

Man reaches in his pocket and slowly pulls out a small wooden box. He opens the small wooden box and reveals the diamond ring.

MAN

This is where I was supposed

to ask you to marry me.

WOMAN

I would have said yes.

Man stands alone by the shore.

FADE OUT.
