YET ANOTHER long and obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching greys anatomy for the first time (SEASON 16 bc i decided i will try to catch up to you guys who are awaiting S20)

-tom koracick, despite all outward appearances, is far too nice

-bailey pisses me off sometimes bc she usually isn’t wrong, but within the parameters of how everyone behaves on the show, her decisions feel wrong, yk? like irl absolutely she should have fired them without a doubt. but in this soapy medical show in which everyone commits malpractice five times a week, it feels like she’s overreacting lmao. does that make any sense?

-meredith in her community service outfit is kind doing something to me

-a man on a scooter just ran into maggie and amelia’s car and it startled me so bad i drew blood with my cross-stitching needle!

-lisa ann walter!! and charmed cast in the same ep!

-bailey and i are beefing actually

-do NOT have another affair, richard webber

-bailey is making me so fucking mad right now. she has no room to act morally superior considering some of the shit she’s pulled. she also continues to have this attitude that meredith should owe her something for being her teacher…. which is sort of valid but let’s not pretend that bailey doesn’t owe meredith quite a bit too. idk again it’s one of those things again where in real life, she’s be perfectly justified but within the fictional guidelines set up by the show, she’s being a vindictive asshole.

-everyone is being really dramatic about koracick he really isn’t that bad

-i want to like schmitt it just feels like we were sort of thrown into deep emotional story lines for him without getting to know him beyond surface level. maybe it’s just me it just feels like the show wants me to have a certain level of emotional investment in him that i don’t have (yet?)

-i’ll not comment a lot on the alex thing bc i had spoilers for it and honestly it’s just so ridiculous. it’s one of those things that i don’t blame the character for bc i know it was the writers and other irl circumstances. i imagine from izzies perspective this is the culmination of a beautiful crazy love story akin to the notebook. but from our perspective this sounds like the lie you tell your kids when the family dog dies- “oh he went to live on a farm”

-i know it’s wrong but i wouldn’t mind this affair if i thought the show was treating teddy/tom as a serious option. as it stands, i just think teddy is being selfish

-i KNEW this would be a boy who cried wolf situation with deluca. unfortunately, he also is struggling mentally i think but i don’t know if he’s manic or suffering from a break. they had me convinced i was wrong for a minute, but i knew it would turn out that he was right about the girl being trafficked. but i definitely think that he was nowhere near ready to come back to work and that the psychologist should not have cleared him. i hope he gets the help he needs soon bc i really like deluca :(

-the conference in LA would’ve been the perfect opportunity for an addison cameo

im noticing an uncomfy trend in children's media. and it is the following: If a child has a crush on an older person who does not reciprocate, the older person has an obligation to lead them on at least slightly and tell them that they are a wonderful person at least to some degree, no matter how few boundaries the child posesses or how inappropriate they're acting.

I have seen... most Shonda shows aside from Bridgerton, I'm afraid lol.

Grey's Anatomy--Obviously has been on for a million years, I have been watching with some off and on periods (currently off but I check in) since... season 2. Grey's Anatomy is a BEAST. It's obviously her biggest show (Bridgerton stans I'm sorry baby but y'all can and probably never will stand up to the cultural BEHEMOTH that is Grey's, which has been on for ALMOST. TWENTY. YEARS. Ugh choke me.) In a lot of ways, Grey's is a standard medical soap, much like E.R. In other ways, it is both better and worse. I will not lie--the DRAMA of the early seasons is amazing. Season 2 of Grey's Anatomy is kinda legendary. Season 1 ending on "and you must be the woman who's screwing my husband?"

Like, whatever you feel about Meredith and McDreamy (they are... something............) the Meredith/Derek/Addison love triangle is something I don't think a lot of shows would attempt today because everything is boring and Cheating Is Evil, which means all of the people in that triangle are Evil and Bad and We Can't Like EvilBad People. Addison is one of my favorite characters on TV, which is why I also watched the entirety of the spinoff, Private Practice, which isn't anything to write home about and they kinda botched Addie at points, but she gets her HEA and I'm good with that part. It has some really emotional moments.

Also, the Denny Duquette arc in season 2 is kind of the sort of TV that everyone should at least watch for like, the history of it all. Cristina Yang is one of the greatest TV characters of all time, imo. (Cristina and Burke... whatever Isaiah Washington is irl, Cristina and Burke were a VERY compelling ship to me back in the day lol. She was his mentee??? He was her boss???? They were both kinda cool operators except they fell in love? It was toxic but it was good.

Scandal is... again, iconic TV, but damn did it fall off. I mean lol, the first two seasons were incredibly compelling TV. I'd watch them again. High drama. I hate Olitz as a couple, but I mean. There was some weird stuff happening in that show, and I did kinda eat it up. B6-13 was weird, but it did bring me Papa Pope, and I loved that nutjob. THE SMARTEST GUY IN THE ROOM. EVIL DAD.

Still Star-Crossed is bad, don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise, it should've been cancelled when it was lol.

I hate Inventing Anna. I'm glad that the Julia Garner hype seems to be dying a bit, I do not see it for her as this Great Talent at all lol.

How to Get Away with Murder.... Not something she wrote, but it has Shonda all over it. Viola Davis gives the type of performance that like, took the innovation of Olivia Pope to another level. Both were obviously something we really didn't see a lot of on mainstream primetime TV before this, and I think Shondaland does deserve props for making it prominent--the true Black antiheroine, and honestly in both Olivia and Annalise's cases, borderline villainous heroines. Also, it gave me Wes, who I love so much, and Alfie Enoch was so good in this role, and Wes and Annalise's relationship was so like... pseud-maternal/filial, but I also felt like they could kiss at any moment? The kind of dynamic usually reserved for white characters with an older man/younger woman. Season 3 really uhhhh screwed me lol, but the first two seasons, especially the season 1 arc? OOOH COMPELLING.

I fully admit that seeing screenshots of superwholock tumblr posts is what prompted me to join way back in 2012.

So you can imagine still being here in 2022, a whole decade later, the superwholock craze supposedly behind us, watching the ghost of it rise every November 5, every time a new Doctor is announced, every time destiel goes cannon again, and the same spirit rises in me, like the shittiest religion ever invented.

I was raised on Doctor Who and found Sherlock and Supernatural in middle school. At which point I became obsessed. I am the stereotypical fandom nerd that was writing johnlock ship analysis back in the day. I'm a full grown adult now with other things in my life than a fandom, but it's amazing how the emotional impact never really goes away.

ok so I finished my highly specific one-band blorbo playlist made entirely out of death metal for a guy who lived in like the 12th century and would immediately explode and die if he heard it. I like it and its lyrics will be my resource of captions for like, every drawing of odio I do for here on out. enjoy

i think i said most of my good thoughts about geed here so i don't have a lot of anything particularly cool to say, even having finished the series. not for lack of enjoyment at all though, i really enjoyed it :)

the foremost particular thing i'd like to reiterate is how much i like the direction of its textural flourishes. the way riku's close-up shots during battles use microscopic footage of cultures of cells as a background, along with the heartbeat-like pulse to the riser, and his distinct fighting posture as an ultra were all always very fun. nicely directly characterizing!! particularly in confrontations with the primary antagonist, who similarly continually emphasizes these aspects.

speaking of fukuide, i was spoiled for some major aspects of his character prior to picking up this show in earnest. from that sort of perspective, his character feels more immediately unfortunate. particularly, with such context, every gesture even more clearly points directly to how small of a person he is to himself. that he dies that way as well; he is several times over so thoroughly made empty (very literally here) precisely by the same being he regards so highly.

as far as takes on inversions go, i'm fairly interested in the concepts of this one. i think very often, that it is the smaller/more mundane cast and their connections that make the "ultra" in ultraman (that the human drama that intersects with and supports the fantastic makes the both shine so much more), and the way it takes form here feels very intentional.

parallel transformations that harm and make one more monstrous, service that demands more and more before being discarded, and a worship that causes one to disregard everything else of the word. down to the light that fukuide basks in--whereas laiha connects with an energy that restores and sustains the very fabric of the universe, planet sturm is dead.

it makes that the heroes reach out to their respective opponents in that final episode feel very meaningful. they still don't back down from fighting (and it is very important that they don't: they have been harmed very personally and directly by these people who fully intend to do even worse if possible), but that they choose to recognize them in their final moments didn't feel cheap to me very much because of how sharply the narrative makes these points. it was personally very momentous; to me, showing the strength of their humanity without discarding those difficult feelings..
