When we mods reference LGBTQ+ Jews in our communities, we aren’t just speaking of the present or future.
Trans and gender non-conforming stories have always been part of our history, and they always will be.
You belong, we belong, our ancestors belong.

Hello! I love your blog but I was also wondering, do you have any recommendations for blogs like yours that focus on jews from other regions, extractions, or time periods? i’d love to see some blogs like that dedicated as lovingly as yours is to this area ^_^
Hey there, thank you for the nice words! Concerning other Jewish blogs, I do have some nice recommendations: for Sephardic culture and history (Middle East, North Africa, southern Europe, the Balkans...) @hadarmarkin. For Jewish mysticism/esotericism @seekingsefirot, @mysticmachmir, @ouroboros8ontology . Jewish (Ashkenazi) farming: @shtetlcore. Jewish art: @boychik-art, @jewsinmedievalart . Hasidic: @chossidishe. Then there are great less specific blogs with Jewish content, and some with stunning historical images like @maharal-of-prague, @gliklofhameln, @lekh-lekha, @hiddurmitzvah, @prorochestvo , @ta-chazei...That's all that comes to mind right now. I am sure my followers could help you too. So feel free to tag more blogs!

Call out post: https://www.tumblr.com/saharathorn/715574424342003712/just-a-psa-to-any-jews-who-may-have-been-following
This was the first and really only post I seen about it. I followed the op and I think they reblogged it again so it popped up on my dash a while ago. It made me curious and I wanted to see proof and more info about it so I searched @bibleluvr and came across a post by one of the mods of @shtetlcore, who claimed to know you.
This was that post: https://www.tumblr.com/shtetlcore/689603117226049536/hey-lots-of-people-are-spreading-rumors-that
Which led me to this post: https://www.tumblr.com/shtetlcore/689522272431734784/hello-im-sorry-to-ask-u-of-this-but-could-u-pls
Which just annoyed me, because the op cares more about the feelings of trans activists than women, esp non-trans identified women. Who cares if trans activists get upset at calling women’s healthcare, women’s healthcare? They are an extremely small (but loud) minority , they don’t have a right to silence (non-trans identified) women who are the majority of these ‘people with uteruses’. Just because a few females convince themselves of being men, and get dysphoric anytime you recognized their biological female-ness (like being able to get pregnancy) doesn’t mean we must change how women as a whole are identified. Anyways, after seeing the posts by them I decided to just ask them and you straight up about it.
Here’s that post, they also mentioned your family being evangelical here: https://www.tumblr.com/shtetlcore/722801518039941120/what-ever-happened-with-bibleluvr-was-she-an
Oh my God, this person is a covert narcissist that got kicked out of their polycule for being abusive and manipulative. I’m a violent transphobe because I shared ONE ARTICLE about the left’s misogyny and instead of rolling over and apologizing like they wanted me to, I stood my ground. I cannot believe they’re in their late 20s and obsessing over me still (I’m 23). shtetl-core is genuinely self-victimizing bad news and lost most of their friends for a reason. Also pretty low blow to bring up my LIBERAL (but abusive lol) parents. My parents used to be very conservative, but they changed and go to a liberal church, which they know but purposefully left out.
If I come across as “evangelical” on this account it’s only because I purposefully keep my personal views to myself on this account so people of all walks of life can follow and interact with me. I don’t agree with everyone I follow and I’m sure they don’t agree with me on many things too, but I still find value in following their accounts.
In summary, shtetl-core is a compulsive liar and has lost MANY friends over the years for their manipulative, self-victimizing behavior so I really wouldn’t take what they have to say seriously. I realized that after what they did to me over a damn article. I’d been wary of their behavior for a while before we fell through because I dared to acknowledge sex and women’s rights being irrevocably tied to sex. Expecting women to give up these terms to define their oppression is unfair and illogical. Trans people can advocate for themselves without policing women’s language.

the thing about reading outsiders writing about Your Culturally Specific Thing (in this case the regional Jewish ethnobotany in whose geography and accompanying value system i was raised), when they have like a specific and motivated desire to ignore that you still exist, is that at points they are so busy treating entire cities, with education systems and postage systems and things, as if they were tiny shtetlekh obliterated by a nebulous Fremen-like Cossack bogeyman, that they forget they can just ask someone currently alive about it
it's not a secret! Only Sith deal in absolutes or whatever but by the numbers almost nobody was given their knowledge by an angel who will kill them about it in the last at least 20 years, I can definitely promise you that!
"In hoary and bygone Kharkov they combined a steam bath with tragically unspecified plants to treat eczema..."
They still do that in Kharkiv, which stands (chazak v'ematz!) whole and unbothered, the unspecified plant was probably horsetail with oat and chamomile, and you could literally go find an old woman, emigrant or not, and ask! They've not got anything else to do but that and sitting on park benches together criticizing the direction the universe is going, like a Greek chorus!
In fact Madam Shoshana, who, despite recent events, parts the veil on Tuesdays weekly, except for ye holidays sacral or bank-related, actively wants to tell you. You would have to pay Madam Shoshana not to try to tell you, because she has been living through a war and if she has not left the country then the reality of death has hit her in a certain way. Madame Shoshana may very well suddenly love ethnographers!
Madame Shoshana has a suitcase of agrimagazines she cross references her family lore with and laughs at, she has opinions, she has a rival (that hussy Trakhtenberg!), she has a medical degree (supposedly)! Are you just afraid of her? Do you fear Madam Shoshana?
You probably should, she probably has an evil eye, but all of that aside seriously there's this tendency to dismiss these things as gone and unresearchable when it's a) only like minutely inconvenient and b) doing that makes it easier to be a jerk to the "remains" of the relevant communities, since the proper "ancestors" of real concern to the average western Ashkenazi are "gone", and the object of this type of research is mostly shtetlcore vibesmongering anyway or whatever.
Oh but I can't go into a warzone... so then don't publish work that requires you to do ethnography until it's not a warzone and you can go do the ethnography! Yeesh!
