How to Use Signal on Windows & Mac
In this article, we have discussed the ways with which you can use Signal on Mac & Windows. The popularity of the encrypted messaging app, Signal, has grown recently due to endorsement by several celebrities and WhatsApp’s ill-conceived privacy policy update. In fact, the iOS version of the Signal messaging app recently topped the download charts of the App Store in several countries, including France, Austria, Germany, Finland, Switzerland, India, and Hong Kong. This was about the mobile version of Signal, but do you know, you can also use Signal on a PC just like Telegram and WhatsApp? This article discusses the steps with the help of which you can use Signal Messenger on a Mac or Windows 10 PC or laptops.
Use Signal Messenger on Your Desktop Computer
The signal doesn’t offer its services over the web like WhatsApp but does have a desktop app for Linux, Mac, and Windows. However, similar to WhatsApp, you need to have the Signal mobile app functional on your handset so as to let it work on your PC. So, without any further delay, let’s proceed further to the steps to use Signal Messenger on a Mac or Windows 10 PC or laptops.
Link and Use Signal on Your PC
You can use Signal on your PC using the following steps:
First, you need to download Signal on your desktop and further install it.
Once you have installed the app, you need to launch it. A QR code will appear on your screen, and further, you need to sync the chats by scanning the mobile app of Signal.
Further, open the Signal Messenger on your smart device and click on the menu button appearing on the upper-right side.
Further, from the pop-up menu, you need to select “Settings.”
Tap on the “Linked Device” under the Settings page. Now, hit “+” appearing at the bottom-right corner on your Android device. If you run Signal on iOS, you need to go to Settings and click on “Linked Devices” and further tap on the option “Link New Devices.”
Now, scan the QR code onto the screen of your PC, and both the apps will get synced in a while. Once they’re in sync, click on “Link Device.”
Further on your Signal desktop app, you need to select a name for the linked devices and click on “Finish Linking Phone.”
The Signal desktop app will sync all your contacts with your device, and now you can send and receive messages using the Signal Desktop. Your messages and contacts may take a few minutes to get synced between the two devices.
Tumblr media
Un-Link Signal Desktop with Your Phone
To un-link the Signal desktop app with your Device, follow the steps mentioned below:
To un-link the devices, you need to click on Settings and tap on the “Linked Devices” on your smartphone.
Now, click on the device’s name that needs to be un-linked and further confirm by pressing “OK.”
That’s it. You have successfully un-linked Signal Desktop with the mobile app of Signal. Later on, when you need to use the app on your PC, you need to re-ink the two.
So, these were the steps with which you can use the best encrypted messaging app on your PC. Being one of the best alternatives to Telegram and WhatsApp, Signal has not only been endorsed by brands and celebrities, but also individuals have widely accepted it as the safest to date messaging service in terms of privacy.
Now that you know how to use Signal on a PC or laptop, you would still use it more often on your handset than on PC. So, have you installed Signal on your PC yet? Do let us know in the comment section if you face any issues.

Sandes Is the Government's Own WhatsApp: How to Download It, and Everything You Need to Know #GadgetsAndDevices #Technology #Science #Gadgets #Devices #Android #iOS #Windows #Gizmos #ScienceAndTechnology #Mobile #SmartDevice Sandes, an Indian government alternative to WhatsApp and other instant messaging apps, has been launched by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The new platform is an upgrade to the existing Government Instant Messaging System (GIMS) that was developed to provide government officials with a WhatsApp-like communication app. The Sandes app can be used by both government officials and individual users. It requires a mobile number or government email ID for sign up. Once signed up, users can send and receive messages as well as new create groups or send multimedia content such as images and videos. Similar to WhatsApp and other major instant messaging apps, Sandes (which means message in Hindi) says it uses end-to-end encrypted communication. The app can be used for sending and receiving messages or sharing images and videos between contacts. It also allows contact sharing and group chats. Further, users can also broadcast messages or set certain messages as their favourite. Sources in the government also confirmed to NDTV that a second app, called Samvad (which means conversation) is also in the works. "These apps are being developed completely by the government of India. It is going to be an instant messaging app like WhatsApp," a MeITY functionary told NDTV. How to sign up for Sandes app You initially need to download the Sandes app on your mobile device. It is available for download in an APK file for smartphones running on Android 5.0 and above through the government's GIMS portal. For iOS users, the app is available for download through the App Store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod touch running on at least iOS 12.0. Once downloaded, you can sign up on the Sandes app using your mobile number or email ID. The app will send you a six-digit OTP for authentication. Email IDs are restricted to government IDs only — if you try to sign up with a Gmail, Hotmail, or other email account, you'll see a notice that emails from that domain are not allowed. Even government-related accounts like @mygov.in accounts are not accepted — only official @gov.in emails can be used to register with the app. Otherwise, you have to use your phone number. You can also edit your profile or select your status upon signing up on the Sandes app. All this works similar to how you can update your profile on WhatsApp. Sandes vs WhatsApp Although the government's Sandes app carries many similarities with WhatsApp, there are some notable differences, too. The first major difference is the option to sign up using your email ID on the Sandes app. For now at least, this is restricted to government officials who can use their @gov.in email IDs to sign in. This function isn't there at all on WhatsApp though, and everyone needs a mobile number to sign up on the Facebook-owned messaging platform. The Sandes app also supports verified accounts for government employees. WhatsApp, on the other hand, doesn't have verified accounts for any individuals. The other notable change that you'll see on Sandes is the option to send chat backups to a user-preferred external location, including email. This isn't the case with WhatsApp where you can only back up your chats to Google Drive if you're on Android — or iCloud if you use an iPhone. The Sandes app also doesn't allow users to change their mobile number or email ID once signed up. This means that you'll need to stick to your mobile number or email ID that you used for signing up to continue to use the app. Alternatively, you can delete your account with the and then create a new one with a different mobile number or email ID. WhatsApp, in contrast, has a dedicated Change Number feature to let you easily move from an old phone number to a new one — without deleting your profile. There is also an option to sync contacts and add new contacts who are already on the platform; you can't invite new users to join, but anyone can just download the app and join. The government hasn't yet provided any clarity on how it is planning to use Sandes. But nonetheless, given the features the app currently has and its scope being a government platform, it could be adopted by individuals against global messaging apps including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal. The government is already... by Technological Updates

Hike StickerChat, India’s answer to Facebook owned WhatsApp, has officially been shut down and removed from the Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. On January 6, Kavin Bharti Mittal, the founder announced the news, while giving no clarity as to why the company is shutting down its service.

All your data will be available to download in the app. Your HikeMoji will continue to be available in both Vibe & Rush!
— Kavin Bharti Mittal (@kavinbm) January 6, 2021
Nevertheless, the company is all set to replace Hike Messenger with Vibe and Rush (a bite sized gaming service) as both will be available for download on both Android and iOS platform. Mittal also intends to continue to use the most successful parts of Hike into the new platforms, which are its various stickers and emojis catering cater to the younger population in India.
Mittal described opportunities in building virtual worlds as a “much better approach for today’s world that is unconstrained by cheap, fast data and powerful smartphones.”
Earlier this month, he had said that India cannot have an indigenous messaging services, since “Global effects are too strong.” According to Mittal, for an Indian messaging app to flourish, the government has to ban Western companies from operating in the nation.
Another aspect heavily influencing the decision of Hike is the mounting outrage against WhatsApp’s new policy of reserving the right to share user data with the broader Facebook network. While WhatsApp is losing users rapidly, its competitors including Signal and Telegram have added tens of millions of users in recent weeks. However, Hike was not able to gain the same love from the masses, and its userbase has barely grown despite the changing landscape of the market.
Signal, which is run on a not-for-profit basis, added over 30 million installations just this month.
