me: Hm, I have an idea for a textured stitch pattern I could use on a sock. A nice, basic sock with some texture, yep.

me: The beginning of the round makes a jog in my repeating texture, which annoys me. I could add a narrow vertical stripe, just a couple of stitches, ribbing maybe, to make the break in the pattern look like an intentional design feature. It's still pretty simple, though.

me: Actually this vertical stripe should be a little wider, more of a decorative panel, so I can put some cable-y things on it.

me: Now I need to decide how to end the textured section, and make a transition into plain stockinette for the foot.

me: plain stockinette is boring, I think it needs a little border just before the toe.

an outside observer, looking at my nearly-finished sock: This looks like it was constructed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini to be installed in the Vatican.

finally got to sit down and draw my interpretation of Penelope, queen of Ithaca, from epic: the musical

also as a bonus, her namesake duck

#epic the musical #epic penelope #so. i got a few things to say as usual when i work on a design #first i knew penelope had a namesake duck. because her name literally means duck #there's another interpretation for her name but i couldn't ignore how wholesome it is. allegedly there's a myth around it too #where she was cast away by her parents and thrown in the water but was saved by ducks who carried her to shore #so her parents accepted her back. and not gonna lie i really liked that story #so i knew i would choose a hairdo that could specifically recall the feathers of a duck. and wouldn't you know #studying greek hairstyles and accessories i saw this hairnet the women would use. that makes the hair do just that #so that was the first clear thing i had in mind for her. next i looked at her namesake duck. and seeing its patterns i knew #that i had to give her freckles. and brown hair and eyes obviously #next is about her being spartan. i know stuff could change once she married odysseus. but also i didn't want her to separate too much from #her origins. so i like to think of her as fit and simple in style #i like to think she prefers to show through words and wits (matching her husband) that she means business #not through jewelry or fancy clothes. so she sports some jewelry but not too much #i also sneaked a duck in one of her brooches. because why not #and yeah i mean. i struggled picturing her shorter or same height as odysseus. i made him a short king and you'll deal with it #my art

I'm not feeling like this is more than this??#like Loop is still in the silly room but only for so long before I get them out or just make them like a cat of the room #to be fair they're allll cats there in a way #Luocha was my to-go character ever since getting him after exams in 2023 and I can't find a character that better worked in that #Lapis is specifically pre-crystal gem one as I kind of dislike her new design but *shruggs* it's still nice #just not the one that left impression on me that's all #Tomura and Flowey are like The Characters of this blog AND of my drawing journey I love them a bit too much #still not the insane fan but my friends know just HOW MUCH I talked about them and both were in my life for years #I'd say Bill Cipher fits there too as a trio but sadly I was out of places and he's not a guilty fave he's the OG fave #the fave to rule them all and one of the two I still have good time returning to as well - other one is Twilight Sparkle #she didn't fit here too again too many in all-time faves sadly #Nagito is here bc I didn't know what even counted as a “guilty fave” in my list #so I chose him as a character for the list bc Kokichi is too... nothing in my head like he has more stories #but I don't even care about his trial and I played through Nagito's one and actually did a lot to get his Island ending too #I love how you can see - all of them have a pattern like being blue or yellow and then there's Nagito #Tomura counts as blue even though he's more purple and wears black and red in the finale in my read he's in MVA outfit still and will be #tenko shimura

like, the AI has object permanence but the way its programmed can mean it might not always be right about where the hell you went. has nobody else seriously thought of that??

one thing that grinds my gears when looking up knitting pattern collections on youtube is people making videos like "the BEST korean and japanese knitwear designers" and then they introduce it like all knitwear designers are a monolith. can we stop it with the east asia fetishization. isnt everyone tired of it. dont you feel gross?

I realized I had forgotten to swatch for the button hole before starting the second sleeve. And an Hour later I have a swatch with 8 button holes before I got happy with how they look. The pattern basically says "make buttonhole" and I'm not experienced enough with garment knitting to go on just that.

I did manage to confirm that despite sizing up my yarn, I'm still going to need 1 inch/25mm buttons. I don't currently have 6 matching 25mm buttons that would look good with this yarn, so decisions have to be made. And unfortunately my brain has decided the best possible button would be a rose gold coloured shank back(?) button preferably that looks like an actual flower. Which, good luck to me for finding that relatively affordably.

I think I'm just going to knit the cardigan and decide once it's all sewn up. If it fits well and I think I'll wear it, I'll spend the money to get Nice buttons.

#swatching the button holes only took an hour of testing and writing and googling tutorials for things #but looking at buttons on ebay/etsy/random craft stores... that was three hours #i had fun tho tbh i love shopping :)#there IS novel reasons for the Ideal Buttons!!!#theres no actual description of buttons or anything. but still Novel Reasons #the Guy who Knit the Cardigan is representing by gold. like his hairs and eyes are described as golden regularly #i think its actually like a pale gold? but i think rose gold with the pinkish would look better with this pink #(i don't actually own anything rose gold i plan on taking a swatch with me to Somewhere with Rose gold to see them together)#also this is a designer pattern. the buttons deserve a bit of Class. i found some chanel buttons that would be great if i give up on flower #another thing about the Guy who Knits is that he like. CONSTANTLY is bringing the protag flowers. somehow not bl btw #off the top of my head i'm 100% sure he brings him carnations and i'm prettyyyyy sure roses?#sadly there's no canon colour on the carnations. the list of questions i have for the author grows every day #but the flower buttons Speak to me. maybe if i go for more simple buttons i can get a carnation applique or something #also i really really hope that i can read my own handwriting in the (v optimistic) two months it'll be before i knit the button bands

#null havoc damage #ultraman showtime #allegro and lyle are basically done i think. i just gave allegro his arm fins back #i took them off at one point but after remembering that belial and geed have them im putting em back on #i still think lyle looks too simple but then again whenever i try to draw a showa ultra i go 'this is too simple'#so im leaving him as he is .#i adapted zero darkness' markings for zstar this time and i like it a lot i think the lightning bolt esc patterns look super cool #marize also looks too simple but alas... i dont want to overdesign her either #im also not sure i like the shade of pink i picked for her metal i might mess with her colors more #but i like the idea of her metallic bits being iridescent bc she looks like a fish #i did not attempt to do that in the shading though . which may be why it looks bad #idk. my power is flickering so im too scared to draw on my pc so ipad doodles are happening instead #i also dont know why i gave zstar that stupid ass smirk i just drew it on her and was like yeah ok #I DIDNT MEAN TO MAKE THE BOYS MATTE AND THE GIRLS SHINY. THATS JUST HOW IT SHOOK OUT #allegro could be shiny but when i tried to make him shiny it looked weird. might try again later #i think i just need to do a bunch of iterations with marize and then pick one and make myself be satisfied with it #or else im going to mess with her design for weeks on end. sorry mari
