[Tristen smiled contritely, avoiding Matilda’s gaze-.. out of sheer embarrassment or a severe lack of brain functionality, he wasn’t sure]

Tristen: Is that Pixie? Matilda: Yeah-.. bit bigger now, huh? Tristen: Aha, little bit. Matilda: Anyway, you’re clearly working, so… Tristen: Shit, yeah-.. I’ve got another job to get to after this but uh, you gonna be around tomorrow? Matilda: Yeah, we pretty much just got here. Tristen: Okay, uh.. meet me outside the pharmacy at ten? There’s only one in town n’ it’s on like every map-.. I don’t have my phone with me, so…

Matilda: Yeah, sure. Tristen: Okay-.. uh, yeah.. okay! Matilda: Bye, Triss. Tristen: Bye-.. see you tomorrow? Matilda: Yep. Tristen: Ten o’clock? Matilda: Uh-huh. Tristen: Okay.

Julian: Keys?

Victor: It's what the keys are to. I want you to have the lodge. That thing has been burning a hole in my pocket for years and if anyone can turn a profit out of that piece of junk, it's you and your brother.

“Well then,” Lincoln said, turning the wheels of his chair, “sorry again for the interruption. I’ll let you get back to it, Ms. Feng.”

“Stop calling me that. Just Virginya is perfectly acceptable.” She spun around to face her piano again, scowling, and began to play where she left off.

Nearly out the door, Lincoln stopped. He looked back toward the music and beamed. “Sounds nice. I like this one better than what you usually play.”

Virginya’s fingers fell off the keys and dug into her palms. “When have you ever heard me play?”

“I can hear it from the library. It’s only down the road, and this place gets pretty loud at night. Don’t get me wrong—I like the faster songs, too. Even helps me focus on my research! But this one feels more…” Lincoln thought about it for a second, searching for the right word. “Soulful.”

Soulful. It was a kind thought, but Virginya knew deep down that it couldn’t have been soulful. She didn’t have a soul anymore. Hers was stolen.

“Thanks,” she said, feeling awkward. Virginya did not particularly enjoy talking to strangers. She didn’t understand how or why Lincoln talked so much. She would have preferred it if he’d left about ten minutes earlier.

“You’re very welcome. I’ll get out of your braids now. Have a good one, Virginya.” Lincoln flashed one more friendly smile at her, and then he turned to leave.

Harley: Wow! Check out the diamond on that thing. So you're finally making an honest woman out of your girl, huh?

Noah: I've been thinking it's been time for a while now but just haven't had the guts to do it.

Harley: Why not? Not like she's gonna say no. Like it or not, but you two are already stuck together for the rest of your lives anyway. Go clock out and pop the question to your girl.

Noah: How was the graduation?

Vivian: It was nice. Bittersweet.

Noah: Speaking of bittersweet, there was something I wanted to talk to you about.

Vivian: You better not be trying to tell me Julie's pregnant again.

Noah: I wanted your permission to ask Julie to marry me.

Vivian: Whoa. That's a big one.

Noah: Is it really? We've already been living together and raising a baby.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have liked making up different characters and stories—the problems of an only child. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm writing to improve my English and grammar because it is not my native language. So, I don't really follow any rules other than grammar rules, and I don't always follow them either, but I try. During parental leave, I got the idea to take my old and sloppy story, Martin's Escape, and start filling in the plot holes. I say plot holes, but I had no plot… so only holes. 😬 I hope attempt number 2 goes better.

In just three months, I have learned so much, and I'm actually quite proud of myself. If you have ever commented on my story posts or shared an opinion or feedback, know I'm very grateful. It's really cool to see that I can communicate the ideas in my head in an understandable way. This has not always been the case.

@zosa95 I will never forget how you explained to me that in English, it is correct to say that you are "in the shower," not "under the shower," and then we tried to understand the logic of English showers and Estonian showers. 😆 And it all started with the idea that Laila doesn't want Martin to slip while in the shower.

Why am I sharing this? I don't know… So that in 2026, I can look back and think what I've thought and said at some point in my life? 😁
