This is what my Mom told me... January 2016; I decided that I wanted to take up skateboarding as a new hobby. I met a guy, he taught me how to ride, I bought a skateboard, then returned back to Las Vegas. The day I got my board setup I get a text from my Mom, "you know you can get hurt on a skateboard, right?". I didn't reply because I already knew that she just needed to say something Mom-ish, so I let her. The truth is, I don't really think about getting hurt, I still won't think about getting hurt, but I probably will get hurt. Make sense? I can't live in fear of being hurt and somedays you don't even get a scratch. This one here, let me just tell you...I'm trying to get more "air" to my ollie. I think I've got the footwork, but the slide portion still needs work. Whenever I try to do the trick, I imagine fixing the things I feel are wrong and hope that it magically fixes itself the next try. On the try that ended with this casualty, I don't even remember what I was trying to do. In my final attempt to make sense of it all, I'm making up this story: I really wanted to get some air. I thought "Okay, I'm gunna pop harder, jump harder, slide harder...oh I know, let me try a 180". BOOM hit the pavement like bird-poop on my car. I heard my shoulder crack (crack like, holy shit- it came out of the socket), and I was so scared that I wouldn't be able to move my arm! Luckily, with confidence, I rotated my shoulder to find it in full rotation (great, no hospital needed). As I was hoisted off the ground, my loveley man-friend helped me up, I just felt the aches running through my body. Into the house for this photo-op. The scratch is almost like rug-burn since I was wearing a jacket. There is no blood oozing, but you can clearly see I've damaged the surrounding area cause it looks like blood could come gushing out at any second. It is swollen, I've got bruises on my leg, elbow, and knee. It was a fun 30 minute skate session, and I have absolutely no regrets. "You do what you love, and sometimes love hurts".
