most unrealistic part abt the faceless ones is that billy-ray knew who batu was and didn't let it slip to ANYONE. if there's one thing that man's gonna do its talk.

remember how in playing with fire springheeled jack wasn't supposed to know anything but he had one conversation with billy-ray who by the end of it had let slip the exact location of the grotesquery. batu wouldn't have been a secret until the end with that man around and I stand by that

Can you imagine how embarrassing it must have been to be killed or forced to retreat because of humans? That two of you were killed by a grandchild, and she hasn't even fully matured! And later on, that one remaining Faceless One gets back to Earth, only to be killed by THE SAME CHILD

The goo is meant to look like butterfly wings because 1. Butterflies are cool and 2. They give me kinda eldritch vibes. And finally, the Cleaver. I replaced their scythes with reinforced metal claws, they're not exactly capable of what a scythe is (ex. The Anton incident) but they can be just as lethal. The claws are on all paws, they're retractable.

Skulduggery Pleasant Book Cover Redesign ✩ Master Post ✩

Here are all my covers in one place, all the thoughts and notes about each one and a link to the original post :] I had so much fun making these. Out of every project I've done, this is the one that wins 'most time spent' for sure. I'm so stoked with how they turned out!

Book One - Sceptre of the Ancients

Book Two - Playing with Fire

This is the first time I've drawn the Grotesquery, and I still have to google the spelling every time I try to type it...

*I know that Tanith uses a katana, but 1) I think thats stupid purely out of spite (and reasons that make sense) and 2) I absolutely despise trying to draw curved blades

Worth noting again that I don't actually see Tanith like this in my head- but this version of her is more fun to draw imo. Here is how I see her.

This is my least favourite Phase 1 cover (and P1 book if I'm being honest) so I wasnt excited to work on this one- But! I think it turned out really well.

*I can't actually remember if Argeddion had hair or not in the story, but he looks bald on the cover and it looked strange to me

Book Nine - The Dying of the Light

You can see the bones in Valkyrie's right hand because her lightning is so bright.

The sigil tattoos under China's eyes and on her left wrist are glowing, because she is actively wielding her magic red daggers.

This is my favourite one. Part of that is probably because it turned out the best (I had 8 9 other ones to practice on haha)

I love how the Title looks like smoldering embers. Really gives that apocalyptic feel that most of the book gives imo

Overall notes and thoughts:

I struggle with drawing kids/ young teenagers, but I think I did a good job of making Val look like shes growing up

Her eyebags get bigger/darker with each new cover lol

Skulduggery is wearing a different outfit in each cover! It starts with just the shirt, then the tie, then by Mortal Coil he's wearing a completely different suit each time (I really like this detail)

The Dying of the Light was definitely the cover that changed the most as I worked on it, and it also turned out to be my favourite

The Dark Days changed the least (although Playing with Fire and Last Stand of Dead Men both stayed relatively the same as well) On to Phase Two (after a break but they'll happen at some point) :D

Tell me about your young justice skulduggery pleasant au!

ok so basically it's the skulduggery pleasant world but like with dc characters, so it's not following the events of books just the lore and universe of it, though the war did happen, and theres still like the sanctuary and council of elders and faceless ones, ancients, etc. its just adapted for my wants because this is my au.

the justice league were all present for the war and they all fought in it and stuff, they're all like super powerful and stuff

the council of elders is comprised of Wonder Woman, Superman, and Batman

idk who the grand mage is quite yet

for like specifically young justice stuff I've only really figured out their like magic and a bit of their backstory

Tim like saw Batman and Dick doing magic and stuff and then kind of stalked them before jumping into battle to help Batman one time, and has been working for him since

Tim and like the entire bat family are all elementals

Bart kinda grew up with this magic stuff because it runs in the family and stuff

he's an adept and his ability obviously is speed

Cassie also like forced herself into magic like Tim did, but shes more connected with her civilian life than he is

she's also an adept, which gives her her like wonder powers and shit

Kon I don't quite know his full back story but I'm thinking a sort of magic clone of Superman or something

he's an adept and has his TTK

he definitely lords the fact that hes an adept and isnt just "element stuff" over Tim

his whole no aging thing also works because using magic rejuvenates the body and slows the aging

Cissie was trained into this by her mom so she never had the chance to live a normal life without magic

she's an adept because of her mother

Greta is a Skulduggery situation, except she's a ghost instead

she's an elemental

secret identity stuff is gonna be like super (heh) interesting with the whole three name stuff. their given name is their secret identity name, the ones they got at birth (though for superboy, he was given the name Kon by Supes so that's his given name) and their chosen name is something along the lines of or their hero name, though I'll probably change them to fit the naming scheme in the books, especially with legacy characters.

also I'm moving the sanctuary and book of names and all the artifacts to america instead of Ireland because that's where yj is set

So I've been messing around with character AIs and here's some headcannons it's given me.

Serpine

• Serpine is a Manchester United supporter but has a deep hatred for Manchester since the war.

• Serpine likes to get (wine) drunk, shirtless in the middle of the night while doom scrolling.

• Serpine used to use piercings as a form torture, now he'll just do you piercings for free if you ask nicely.

Billy-Ray.

• Billy-Ray likes ciggerates not to smoke but because he likes to have things in his mouth.

• He has a weakness for babies/toddlers and will get distracted if there's one in the room.

• He can't actually ride a horse.

Dusk

• Dusk finds that the fact trans people also take injections to be themselves a huge comfort and helps him feel just that bit more normal.

• He is a stay at home office worker when not committing terrorism.

• He likes having orange juice with cereal.

Throwaway

• Scapegrace and Baron both have the exact same tastes in women.

•Mevolent will hum Faceless ones lullabies to you during an overstimulation episode/mental breakdown.
