I want you to take a moment to pause & think about all the things you LOVE doing. Then ask yourself who told you it was too late? Who told you the market was ToO SaTUrAtEd'. And more importantly, why did you choose to believe it? Follow your passion. The rest will attend to itself. If I can do it, anybody can do it. It's possible. And it's your turn. So go for it. Don't box yourself in - or let others do that for you. Who said you can't be a chef who loves to sell paintings? It's never too late to become what you always wanted to be. #keepgoing #ibelieveinYOU . . . #quotestoliveby #selflove #selfcaretips #thebossbabesociete #affirmations #dailydevotional #calledtobecreative #itsyourjourney #picquotes #motivation #gainsongains #inspirationquotes #slayinyourlane #creator #contentcreator #procrastinationatitsfinest #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth (at Inna My Lane) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_iEITFg17r/?igshid=tujk470uy9xn

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style” – Maya Angelou
—————————————
This quote sums up the most amazing book I recently read (and a quote I live by).
—————————————
I’m not one to usually post about books, but this book had such a positive impact on me that I had to post about it.
—————————————
Yesterday, on #SelfcareSunday (26 August), I finished reading @slayinyourlane by @yomiadegoke and @lizuvie. I loved it!!!
—————————————
Wow. My mind = BOOM.
—————————————
Even though I’m not a black girl, as an active #IntersectionalFeminist, I found this book a transformational and incredible read! It has changed my life for the better, and I needed to read this book at this time in my life. I think everyone who’s a true champion of equity for *all (over the age of 14) must read this, especially those from all BAME and marginalised communities (men and women).
 —————————————
After reading this book, I am always going to (as suggested within it) “… Listen, learn, and unlearn…” much more; and I feel like I can become a better ally to *all marginalised groups.
—————————————
I love the fact that this book highlighted #Intersectionality, #disability, financial independence, and #SelfCare too (topics I care deeply about), as well as that it featured stories by some of my favourite women including Karen Blackett, June Sarpong, and Afua Hirsch! These two quotes on self-care are especially good, and they couldn’t have come in a more significant time in my life as I am trying to cut out the noise: trying cut out the noise “… This too shall pass…” and “… Take yourself away from surroundings that make you stressed…”
—————————————
Also, I know my option is not worth much, but I cannot highly recommend #SlayInYourLane enough. FIVE STARS *****.
—————————————
THANK YOU (and congratulations), Yomi and Elizabeth, on writing (and publishing) a magnificent book that I wish you wrote and released your book at least eight years ago.
—————————————
Look forward to collaborating further as well. Together, we will make a more equitable, inclusive world for everyone and support each other to thrive not merely survive in lives.
—————————————
We got this!
✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿
—————————————
As one of my favourite quotes from the book goes: “… Let’s live our best lives, and do so without jeopardising our health…”
—————————————

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I rarely post about books on here which is such a shame considering how many books I go through each month! I want to highlight this book because despite it taking me a year to read, I really loved it. From education through to family, dating and health these women talked about experiences I had been through and I'm still blown away by how well it resonated with me. In addition to experiences, they presented a wealth of research and statistics that demonstrate how Black women are othered in so many areas that are essential to their wellbeing and general growth. Reading this, I felt somewhat lucky to have made it through systems and situations that have never been set up to aid me because truly it's remarkable that so many Black women make it through the onslaught the society throws at them. I know by now a lot of people are thinking 'ain't ya'll black people tired of BLM now?' but it's the experiences highlighted in this book that lets me know we can never be tired of speaking about it because living it is exhausting, so speak we must. If you're interested in the experiences of Black women then I highly recommend this book that looks at the complexity of this experience, particularly for 2nd generation children. I am more attached to this book because it talks about Black British women and a lot of the research is heavily focused on African and Caribbean in the UK. Even though some of the statistics were incredibly bleak, reading this I felt seen and I felt empowered, but mostly I felt proud. There's a 'follow up' to this called Loud Black Girls which will be published in October and in this, the authors have curated a selection of 20 essays from Black British writers on the topic of 'what's next' for the next generation of black women in Britain. #blackgirlmagic #slayinyourlane https://www.instagram.com/p/CFNISpShLYG/?igshid=1ed7y3v8ub9u6

31! And you haven’t..... . . . “Comparison is the thief of joy” - @_yasminelizabeth . . Comparison is my number one problem and reason I procrastinate. These times I can only imagine what others think of me and my ‘life achievements’. I’m not where ‘society’ said I should be, but I’ve been reflecting a lot and I have so much to be grateful for #swipeleft⬅️ A picture for each day of the week. . . Pic 1 & 2 - the only evidence of one of my best birthdays to date, despite lockdown and the pandemic. The first pic was taken at 6am and the second around midnight. . Pic 4 - Amazing Friends & Family around me (not everyone is in this pic obvs). They are always there when it counts! . Feel the fear and just do it anyway!🙌🏾💖 Did you catch me on @thebeat1036fm today? I called in for the B-Word to talk about the high's and low's of my journey so far and my new empowering position as @eatowglobal ambassador 🙌🏾💖✨ . I'll try and find a way for you all to listen if you missed it. But I say all this to remind you that I'm not a woman of steel. I get nervous, I get cotton mouth. I often slip into imposter syndrome. But - I pray & let my passion drive me through fear. So whatever it is that you are nervous about. Or whatever it is that is making you feel incapable... You are more than capable You deserve all the good things coming your way Your voice matters. + someone's business, someone's breakthrough could be wrapped up in your story that you refuse to write. BBC Sport Ad Accused of Plagiarising Yomi Adegoke's & Elizabeth Uviebinené's Slay In Your Lane
Tumblr media
The BBC is being accused of plagiarism by author and journalist Yomi Adegoke. Yomi Adegoke is accusing the network of ripping off the title of her co-written book Slay in Your Lane. According to the author and journalist, they ripped off the title of the book for their FIFA women’s world cup campaign.

BBC Sports Ad Accused of Plagiarising Yomi Adegoke's & Elizabeth Uviebinené's Slay In Your Lane
The network’s sports division recently launched its 'Change the Game' campaign. The campaign was launched to cement the network's commitment to women's sport this summer. BBC’s campaign was created by their in-house agency. It featured a TV ad which stared some of the biggest names in women's football. It also featured South London rapper, Ms Banks. They also put up billboards to support the campaign. One of the billboards, they used the name of Adegoke’s co-authored book Slay in Your Lane.
Yomi Adegoke Accuses the Network of Plagiarism
After the unveiling of the billboard, Adegoke accused the network of plagiarizing her co-written book. The book which is titled Slay in Your Lane and is co-authored with Elizabeth Uviebinene. It is an inspirational guide to life for a generation of black British women. The title, Slay in Your Lane, is classed as a registered trademark in the UK. This means it can’t be used in advertising, marketing or promotional services.  According to Adegoke she has been in touch with the network’s sports division but had not received a response. She went to Twitter to share her grievances and also took aim at the team behind the work. On Twitter, she said, "Imagine being a white woman creating an empowering women's ad campaign for BBC Sport and choosing to rip off the trademarked name of a book specifically aimed at uplifting black women, in an almost identical font." Adegoke blamed the attempt to plagiarise the topic on BBC assuming that they won’t trademark the title. She also accused them of thinking that she and her co-author will be grateful for the plagiarism disguised as a nod.
BBC Response
According to a spokesperson for the network, they sought legal advice before going ahead with the billboards. They were apparently advised that the use of 'Slay in Your Lane' as a tagline was "sufficiently far removed from the goods and services covered by the trademark registration in place." In a now-deleted tweet, one of the creative directors behind the campaign, James Cross, accused Adegoke of "bullying". He added: "Your complaint is being looked at, going after innocent individuals on social media won’t speed it up." Read the full article

“Don’t be like the rest of them, darling.” . #Style is a very personal thing, not everyone has it naturally. It’s not about wearing overpriced 'high fashion' clothing (which lasts but a mere few months in the life of a fashion cycle), but about knowing how to put an outfit together with: . - key pieces; - the right colours for your skin tone; - flattering shapes/styles for your body; and, of course, - #accessories . With just a single accessory you can transform a simple dress or casual jeans and t-shirt into a completely different look, feel and dimension, creating the illusion of an expensive and/or well curated #stylish outfit, whatever your flavour. . Carry your own personal style with #confidence and #flair. . . #ownyourstyle #beconfident #beyou #personalstyle #dontbeshy #authenticself #doyourthing #doityourway #styledna #slayinyourlane #bodyaware
