The sun had barely broken over the horizon when Jake walked through the front door. The cabin was still dark and quiet. Kids fast asleep in their beds. He kicked off his muck-caked boots at the door. He could hear dried pieces of mud fall off his body in the silence. 

Last night had been a rough full moon. The new Beta had gotten loose and the pack had to track him down before he hurt anybody. Jake had nearly forgotten how little control a new Beta had during their first full moons. It took a few hours, but eventually, they found him, and caged him into a clearing for the rest of the night.

Jake was tired down to his bones, that kind of weariness that made his eyes water, as he walked quietly back to his and Ronnie’s bedroom. He was covered nearly head-to-toe in mud and dried blood. His muscles ached from spending the entire night running at full speed and wrestling his own Beta.

As he walked down the hall, peeking into each other kids’ rooms to make sure they were still actually asleep, he could see that the light inside their room was on. Jake sighed, wondering if she even went to bed at all. But he couldn’t help the relief that flooded his veins at the thought of her helping him. 

Sure enough, Ronnie was sat up in bed reading. Glasses perched on her nose and a still steaming cup of tea on the bedside table. A smile lit up her face when she first looked up at him, it just made him feel more tired, but then her smile fell when she saw the state of him. 

“What happened?” Ronnie asked as he took off her glasses and set down the book. 

She got up from the bed and met him halfway as he trudged further into the room, leaving a trail of dirt in his wake. 

“Rhett got out,” he grunted out with some effort. 

“Oh no.” Ronnie, despite the state of him, took his hand in her own and gave it a squeeze. “We can talk later. Let’s get you cleaned up, my Alpha.” 

Jake didn’t protest as she tugged him into the bathroom. He leaned heavily back against the sink as Ronnie turned on the shower, letting the water heat up as she stripped him of his irredeemable clothes. Once steam was fogging up the mirror, she told him to get in. And he just stood under the spray for a moment, his limbs too tired to even scrape the muck off. But then Ronnie stepped into the shower with him.

It all happened in a haze, he could barely keep his eyes open. But he somehow managed to stay upright as she cleaned him up. Only pushing at his shoulders gently so she could reach his hair. He hummed softly at the attention, at the gentle touch instead of rough tackles and gnashing teeth. She muttered for him to turn back around and he did so slowly, eyes peeling open to gaze down at her. Beautiful, as always. Dark hair slightly damp, brown eyes full of so much love all for him, lower belly just beginning to round with another pup. Jake felt something stir within him but he was too tired to act on it. So he just tugged her by the hips until she was flush against him, her arms wrapped around his middle tight. 

She leaned forward into his chest so she could turn off the water. 

“Come on, sweet boy, let’s get you into bed.” 

“M’don’wanna — stay’ere,” Jake grumbled back into the top of her head. 

“You’re not making much sense anymore,” she laughed, pulling herself away from his embrace. “Think that means it’s time for some sleep.”

Jake got out one more grunt of protest before she took him by the hand and led him back into the bedroom. She handed him a pair of soft shorts and he slipped them on easily. And he watched from his spot on the bed as she pulled on one of his t-shirts over her head. Ronnie crawled into bed next to him, then she patted her chest. 

“You’re allowed to cuddle me like a teddy bear, I know you want to. Get in all the cuddles you can before the pup gets in the way.” 

Jake groaned as he fell into her chest, arms wrapped tight around her as he burrowed his face between her breasts. She laughed softly as she threaded her fingers through his still wet hair, scratching at his scalp in the way she knew he liked.

In only a few moments, her Alpha was fast asleep. His breaths slow and even as all his weight relaxed into her. Ronnie continued to scratch at his head with one hand, the other running up and down his bare back. 

Then the cracked open door creeked open, and two heads of dirty blond hair walked into the room. Both of them with eyes barely peeled open and stuffed animals clutched to their chests. 

“Hey, my boys,” Ronnie greeted her sons quietly as they shuffled into the room. “Daddy’s sleeping, gotta be quiet, okay?”

The three and four-year-old nodded before they climbed into the large bed. Noah snuggled up into his dad’s other side, while Rhodes curled as best he could against his mom. And after a few moments of whimpering and rolling around, they were both back asleep. Ronnie chuckled as she looked around at all her boys. At her beautiful, growing family. 

But she looked down at her belly and prayed for a girl.

I know, I know.... the last thing I should be thinking about is even more new prompts/requests 🙈🙈🙈, but I came across a Sleepy Dialogue prompts list, and I LOVE every single prompt on it! 

So, I have decided to keep this prompts list up for around 24 hours. What gets requested, gets requested. What remains, will be stored for later use. 

This will probably be a prompts list for the long(er) run, but I hope to get some of these out rather soon 😇😇

Ronnie was away in Seattle for a week doing something with the university she graduated from. Jake couldn’t really remember what it was now. Something about the research she did while getting her masters and alumni and the anniversary of a department. However, all he could think about now was his regret for practically forcing her to go in the first place.

She was so smart. Smarter than he ever would be. But he missed her. His draw to be around her almost as strong as when they were first mated. He would get a wif of her scent lingering on a throw blanket or one of her shirts and a pain would ripple deep in his chest. But it was only three more days. He could make it three more days. 

But as he lay in bed, staring at the ceiling as he tried to force himself to go to sleep, he nearly jumped when Ronnie’s face lit up his phone screen. Some selfie she had taken far too close up that he thought was hilarious and made him miss her all the more. 

She was calling him. 

Jake smiled as he answered. 

“Hey, little one,” he greeted softly as he sat up against the headboard. 

“Hi, baby.”

She sounded tired, her voice slightly scratchy. 

“Everything okay?” Jake asked. 

“Yeah, yeah, good. Just tired. Just…A lot of people.” Ronnie laughed lightly and it made his heart sing. “Haven’t talked this much in a long time.” 

“What’d you do today?’

“Ugh, okay, I was just supposed to sit in on this series of lectures about folklore in relation to Greek culture and everyday life but then this professor from a different university — can’t remember which one now — didn’t show up. So they asked me to give one of the short lectures.” Jake nodded along as he listened intently, he could picture the panic on her face perfectly. “So I used a presentation that I did when I was a student on lycanthropy and its cross-cultural influence. Probably not exactly what they were looking for but they also shouldn’t have asked me thirty minutes before I was supposed to be on stage.” 

“I’m sure it was great, my smart girl,” he replied. 

She hummed in response. “I’ve been back in my hotel for an hour, trying to sleep, but…I can’t.”

“Oh, baby. What’s wrong?”

“I’ve gotten too used to you Jake Seresin. I think I need your smell to fall asleep.” Her reply made him laugh, a deep rumble that shook his shoulders. “I haven’t been sleeping well the entire time I’ve been gone.” 

Jake scratched at his beard before pushing a hand into his hair. There was that pain again. Deep in his chest where he knew his connection to her resided. He rubbed absently at his chest as he sighed. 

“Can I tell you something?”

“Possibly,” she replied, sounding suspicious. 

“I put one of your dirty t-shirts on the bed next to me the first night you were gone.”

“You didn’t do anything raunchy with it did you?”

“Ronnie!” 

They both laughed. Jake laid back down on his pillow and put the phone on speaker, laying it down beside him — right next to her balled-up t-shirt. She still giggled through the phone speaker. Slightly garbled with the dodgy reception at the cabin but it was still her laugh. Her laugh that he could picture so perfectly in his mind’s eye. Her head thrown back and eyes reduced to mere slits. He always thought she looked her most beautiful then. At her most carefree. 

“I miss you, Jay,” she finally said after a beat of silence. 

“MIss you too, little one. When you get home, you won’t have to talk to anyone for a whole week.”

She groaned. “That sounds great. I — I still wanna talk to you though.”

“That can be arranged,” he chuckled. 

“I’m getting sleepy now,” Ronnie yawned. “But I don’t wanna hang up…Can we…Can we just stay like this? Don’t even have to say anything.”

“Yeah. I’d like that.” 

Jake listened to her shuffle around for a second. The rustle of blankets as she got comfortable. Just three more days. Then she would be laying right next to him. In his arms. He would breathe in lungfuls of her scent and feel her cold feet and get her hair in his mouth. And it would be perfect. It would be everything he ever wanted. 

“Good night, My Alpha,” she said, voice low and slow already with sleep. “I love you.”

“Love you too. I’ll see you in my dreams.”

“That was really cheesy.”

“Really? Yeah. It felt cheesy as I said it.”

“I love you,” Ronnie repeated, on a laugh, on a sigh. 

“Sweet sleep, little one.”

^ like i mean they're all curled up and look small, covered up so much that all they can see are big eyes peeking out and innocently blinking at them from the blanket. how do you want them to keep a straight face.

feeling little kisses being placed on their neck, chest, or chin from time to time.
