DISCOMFORT . As a collective we’re experiencing our shadow showing up aggressively in our face saying pay attention to me. . During these times it’s often easier to want to walk or run away and hide, to pretend it’s not real, to ignore the discomfort. . Here’s the thing though, true transformation doesn’t happen in ignoring the hard and dark things, it comes when we sit in those moments, when we stare the discomfort head on and say this sucks and it awkward and uncomfortable but I’m going to stay and do the work anyway. . Life isn’t all joy and happiness and light all the time, it also isn’t anger and sadness and darkness all the time. It’s a messy combination of both and we have to as humans be willing to experience the full range of emotions. . Listen white friends, I know this work we’re doing is hard. It might be brining you shame and discomfort. GOOD. It should. But the appropriate response isn’t to ignore it or pretend it isn’t happening. . The appropriate response is to get uncomfortable. Educate yourself on white supremacy. Educate yourself on the ACTUAL history of America. Learn all the ways it’s broken. Pay Black people for their labor. Then start working to dismantle those systems. . Educate your white friends and family members. Challenge them. Have uncomfortable conversations. Do research on the places you spend your money at, go out of your way to avoid places that use prison labor or that donate to shitty causes and spend money at Black owned businesses. . We can’t dismantle the imperialist white supremacist capitalist heretopatriarchal system we live in it we’re unwilling to sit in this transformative period. . Antifascists Assembly, London 31.10.2019.

Yesterday evening I went photograph antifascists march. There was about few hundred antifascists and it did look like police’s numbers were overtaking attendance of protesters. However I think demonstration was good and many people did stop and ask what is this all about. The protesters were tidely secured by police, the authorities were concerned about fascists and nationalists attacking people at demonstration.

We are living in times where number of fascists is rising. They do have a strong support from right wing political parties. It is scary. The mainstream media won’t talk much about Polish girls who put Antifa banners on independent day and got beat up, and still got charged as they were the bad ones, they won’t talk about recent attacks on mosques or synagogues in Europe.

“Alle yuppen de pijp uit” is alles binnen de ring zo’n beetje gedomineerd door poen. Door rijke toeries, yuppen, expats- bedrijven, hotels, ‘belevingen’. Je wordt helemaal ellendig van sommige straten, je kan je d’r maar beter niet laten zien, tenzij je een goed plan hebt om eens wat te slopen. Internationaal is er veel aandacht voor gentrificatie, binnen de linksige scene dan met name. Er waren echter altijd al arme buurten die overgenomen werden door een of ander staats- of commercieel belang. Dat heeft meestal ofwel te maken met het onzichtbaar houden van armoede (talloze vrienden van buiten die bij mij op bezoek komen, maar ook vrienden beweren dat er geen armoede is in mijn stad, maar ze begeven zich simpelweg niet in de buurten waar dat zichtbaar is), of er moet een metrostation of bedrijventerrein komen. Mijn punt is eigenlijk dat gentrificatie niet een ziekte is, maar gewoon een symptoom van de ziekte die de hele wereld vernaggelt: kapitalisme. Geld verdienen aan huizen, mensen, het slopen van natuur. Jeweetwel. Geen vrijplaatsen meer, geen ontsnappingen en afscheidingen, geen geïsoleerde alternatieven. Daar maakt de staat tegenwoordig korte metten mee, en diegenen die er zich bevinden zijn na jaren van isolatie alles behalve weerbaar hiertegen. Ik roep op tot SABOTAGE van alles wat voor ellende zorgt. Waar te beginnen? Jouw keuze! Heel de teringzooi is zo met elkaar verbonden dat als er een iets valt de volgende snel volgt. Net als domi- nostenen in een cir- kel. Of het nou een avocado-bar is, de AirBnB’s, de yuppie koffiebarretjes, de spectaculai- re attracties of de massaconsumptie in de straten dietegenwoordigalleenvoorwinkelenzijnbestemd. Stel voor dat alle camera’s uit het straatbeeld ver- dwijnen? Wat zou er gebeuren? Wat zou er gaan bewegen?
