HOW TO: Cross-Fade Multiple Gifs
Hi! In this tutorial, I'm going to go over how I typically do a fade transition that works with Video Timeline. Disclaimer: This tutorial assumes you have a basic understanding of gif-making in Photoshop and requires the use of keyframes.

Before I start, if you're wondering "why don't you just use the cross fade tool on the Timeline?" — this thing:

It doesn't work for me 🤷🏻‍♀️ Something happens when converting from Video Timeline back to Frame Animation (the converting everything into a smart object step) that completely negates the cross fade whenever I use it. I'm not sure why, but this is why I do fade transitions the way I'm about to explain.
PHASE 1: THE GIFS
1.1 – Determine how many frames you need. There are 3 things to remember here: 1) Ideally, each gif section should have the same amount of frames, so the transitions feel evenly spaced. 2) The gif's dimensions and total number of frames affect file size. Your final exported gif needs to be under 10MB (Tumblr's limit), so you should consider the total number of frames in relation to the size of your gif. My example gif is 540x540px and 60 frames total; final file size = 7.8MB. 3) Add 4 extra frames to each section to account for the cross-faded portion. (The reason I chose 4 specifically is because Video Timeline works in 0.03-second intervals. The typical duration of my fade transitions is 0.06 seconds — which, when converted back to frames, is 4 frames.) I knew 60 total frames would be a safe bet for a gif this size. Since I had 3 gif sections, each would be 20 frames. I added 4 additional frames, making each one 24 frames (before removing duplicates in the exporting process, which will be explained in Phase 3). You can make your transitions longer than 0.06, but I recommend keeping it to intervals of 0.03 due to the way Timeline works. Every 0.03 seconds = 2 frames, so use this when deciding how many extra frames you'll need.
1.2 – Import frames, crop, and resize. Do this as you normally would! If you need a tutorial for the basics, here's my tutorial. :)
1.3 – Move all gifs onto one document/canvas. Right-click the gif layer and select "Duplicate Layer:"

Then choose the appropriate document from the dropdown list:

Do this for each gif section so you can work on one document for the rest of the process.
1.4 – Put each gif into its own group. Select each layer and use the shortcut Command+G or right-click and select "Group from Layers." In Phase 2, we'll be putting the opacity keyframes on the groups instead of the individual layers.
1.5 – Arrange each gif's group on the Timeline. At the end of Gif 1, move backwards 6 times. Move the starting point of Gif 2 to this spot. At the end of Gif 2, move back 6 times and make this Gif 3's starting point. Here's how my gifs look arranged on the Timeline, animated so you can see the 6-space distance:

We'll be adding keyframes to these overlapping sections in Phase 2.
1.6 – Set up the last transition. At the very beginning of the Timeline, hit the forward button 6 times and click the scissors to divide the clip. Move the starting point of your gif to the newly trimmed beginning as shown below:

Then, move the original beginning chunk of Gif 1 — that tiny 0.06-second clip — to the end of the timeline above the rest of your layers, aligning its end with the end of Gif 3. Put it in a group like you did in Step 1.4:

Note: This screenshot shows my final workspace with the coloring layers in groups and the keyframes already placed.
1.7 – Color your gifs. Do this however you want, just keep all your adjustment layers and any other effects within their respective groups:

Duplicate the adjustment layers from Gif 1 and move them into the folder Gif 1 - Beginning (where your tiny 0.06-second clip is). Be sure the adjustment layers line up with the rest of the group so those adjustments don't affect your other gifs! You may want to trim the adjustment layers to match the duration of the clip or just move them so they start at the same spot as that clip.
PHASE 2: THE KEYFRAMES
2.1 – Place a 100% and 0% keyframe at the beginning of each gif's group. Drag the playhead (red vertical line) to the end of Gif 1. Expand the Gif 2 group to reveal the opacity keyframes on the left side of the Timeline panel, then place a keyframe by clicking the icon that looks like a stopwatch. This opacity keyframe is at 100% by default; leave it like that. Drag the playhead to the beginning of Gif 2 and drop another keyframe. While that new keyframe is highlighted yellow, go to the layers panel, make sure Gif 2's group is selected, and reduce the opacity to 0%.
Repeat these steps for each gif's beginning, including the tiny chunk we moved to the end! Here's a gif to show the process:

PHASE 3: THE DUPLICATES
3.1 – Convert back to Frame Animation. If you're not sure how to do this, I've written out the steps here. But I recommend using an action in your general gif-making process to make this step a lot faster. The one I use is linked in my tutorial which I linked earlier!
3.2 – Delete duplicate frames. Remember, at the beginning I set out to make my final gif 60 frames total. With the keyframe animations, I now have 66 frames:

Palpatine's number 👎 Anyway, that means I have 6 duplicate frames. This is what the gif looks like without removing these duplicates:

Watch closely during the transitions; there's a tiny lag. It doesn't look smooth to me. It's the clones!! Here's why we have these duplicates:
For every 0.03-second long keyframe animation, you'll get 1 duplicate frame. Unfortunately, that's just how Video Timeline works with any kind of animated keyframe. Since our fade transition is 0.06 seconds, we have to get rid of 2 duplicate frames per transition section (2 x 3 transitions sections = 6 total duplicates. Ew, math!).
There's not really a way to avoid this step that I know of, but it's not a big deal in the long run. You just have to look at each transition section, eyeball the duplicate frames yourself, and delete them. It's usually the first frame where the fade starts and then two frames after that. I already deleted the duplicates from the first two transition sections, so here's how it's done for the last transition:

Side note: I set up keyboard shortcuts so I can quickly move forward and backward by one frame and delete frames. You can do this by going to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and editing these:

And now I have 60 frames like I originally said I would!

If you want the transition sections to be quicker, you can even decrease the frame delay for the 3 transition frames only — 0.03 or 0.04 might be up to your speed 🥁 but I don't usually do this since I'm fine with the way it looks already.
3.3 – Export. That's it!

You know, if you had told me that Hazbin Hotel was never rewritten to fit the new standards as Vivienne aged, and just stayed pretty much the same as the version from when she was an edgy teenager, I probably would believe you.
I WANT this show to have a chance, I honestly, truly do. That's why I've been holding off on critiques for a while, that's why I haven't been super keen on keeping up with its developments or creator despite my interest in the series, that's why I'm less active within the community now. I'm trying really hard to be patient and see if I'm wrong. I would be delighted to be wrong, really ! It would be awesome if this series was a new masterpiece, a new classic for a whole new generation, but with the way things are flowing so far... I'm starting to lose that hope.
And that sucks man. I used to really like this series' concept as a teenager– the edgy humour and the animation style, combined with the excellent voice acting and the way it did something I'd never seen before, it felt pretty much handcrafted for someone who hated their parents and wanted to be free from societal standards. That's good appeal, really! There's nothing wrong with appealing to a demographic of younger people. The problem is, that was what, 4, almost 5 years ago? The same people the series appealed to back in 2019 have grown up and developed their tastes, and it just doesn't seem like the show is proofed for a new audience. You can't depend on a small demographic of people to fuel an entire show, especially something more niche like the vision Vivienne seems to have. It's a comedy with a bunch of wacky characters ! But you're supposed to take it very seriously, also. But actually it's a drama focused on the characters and their relationships ! But also, it's set in hell, so who cares that they're bad people ? It's a million things at once and a majority of them don't click.
Hearing the show will be focused on drama really put a sour taste in my mouth, because the writers they do have employed (which I feel are VERY few for a production this size?) don't really know how to WRITE the huge dramatic beats they mean to— Literally all you have to do to prove that is look at Helluva boss, especially season 2. It started as an episodic comedy about assassins in Hell, and then it immediately became 'Keeping Up With The Goetias' because all it wanted to focus on was the drama between Stolas and HIS family, all while ignoring actual main characters and whole plotlines... while remaining equally as juvenile in humour. There's such a tonal dissonance for what the show originally WAS and clearly means to at least reference sometimes and what the show currently IS that makes it really hard to watch. The dramatic stakes are said to be very high and are hyped up like crazy by the producers, only to fall flat on their face with execution because they have no set up beforehand.
So imagining them doing that, just right from the getgo without the appeal of what made Helluva Boss at least tolerable, it makes me really dread the future of this series. From what I'm hearing, they can't even let Charlie, the main character of the show, Be The Main Character due to being a girl and therefore less interesting by default, and that the premise gets abandoned Immediately in favour of Boy Drama. It's a tragedy I entirely predicted but am still very disappointed in hearing.
I don't know man. This shit sucks and I'm very tired.

If your working with Lethal Company, how about a situation where the reader isn't scared of the Nutcracker, but is crazy enough to try and befriend it cause they like the fairytale that much?
OOO this is a big brain idea-
Nutcrackers stress me out,,but oh to befriend them..
.....
With the quota constantly rising, you and your team had to take greater risks on moons with more hostile creatures roaming about....all for the sake of selling scrap.
You four had different roles: One was a scouter, the second a budget manager, the third a fighter (they never left the ship without a shovel or zap gun), and you manned the ship while everyone else explored the facilities.
You watched the monitors and chatted with them through walkie-talkies, alerting them to loot or danger.
Although you've saved their lives more times than you could count on both hands, you kinda got bored and wanted to help collect scrap yourself.
One day, the bestiary on the terminal gets updated with a new creature:
The Nutcracker.
Not long afterwards, everyone returned to the ship freaking the fuck out. Nobody died, and the loot was decent, but they were very much shaken-up by this "Nutcracker" entity they encountered.
It apparently had a shotgun that made them all nearly deaf upon firing AND came close to blowing their brains out.
Yet viewing its model on the terminal did awaken a little bit of childhood nostalgia in you, seeing as it looked like a life-sized nutcracker soldier.
Back on Earth, you loved that fairytale: The Nutcracker and the Mouse.
You even watched performances of the ballet/suite around Christmas.
Least to say, you weren't scared of it..and you wanted to actually see this entity for yourself.
Your team opposed it, until one employee mentioned their scanner registered the shotgun as scrap--and you volunteered to go retrieve it since it could set you above the quota.
Obviously you weren't gonna do that, but managed to convince them to let you go alone.
So you get teleported into the facility, almost immediately spotting the Nutcracker on its patrol, walking around like a true soldier and clicking as it surveyed its surroundings.
You notice the upper half of its head extending, revealing a grisly fleshy eye in its "mouth" as it rotated around.
Now you knew it was likely just a machine controlled by a parasite, but you were still fascinated by it nevertheless.
Then your walkie talkie goes off.
"Hurry up, we leave at midni-"
You instantly turn it off, yet the Nutcracker was alerted.
Next thing you knew, it swung around the corner you were hiding, loading two bullets into it shotgun as it stomped closer and closer...
That's when you got an insane idea and pulled out some items you've held onto since starting this job:
A hard copy of the original Nutcracker tale and a smaller figurine of the soldier.
They were comforts from your childhood. You'd never sell them as scrap. Not even if they're worth a million dollars.
You see the entity hesitate, before the eye reveals itself again and stares at your treasured collectibles.
"I-I always liked your stories and ballets.." You stammer out, still facing down the barrel of its gun, knowing death could await you at any moment. "Could we....maybe be friends, Nutcracker, sir?"
You doubt the damn thing could even understand you...
But then it suddenly shifts its focus back on you and raises its gun, opening fire-
Yet you don't drop dead.
Instead you hear the hiss of a Bracken who was mere centimeters away from snapping your neck, and you realize a bullet tore through one of its leaves.
It looked betrayed, but the Nutcracker's one-eyed glare sent it scurrying back into the shadows.
Apparently it was scared of brief eye contact from all creatures, not just humans.
You couldn't believe what just happened.
The Nutcracker...defended you?
You began to thank it for saving your life, but it's cut short when you're teleported back to the ship and your crew is relieved it's not your dead body.
Yet they'd call you crazy if you even implied that you somehow befriended the entity that just tried killing them all...
So you keep this secret locked away in your journal, wondering if there's other Nutcrackers out there who'd act like the one who saved you.

I think if Bumblebee ever got sparked the paternity would be between an odd mix. One he could never reveal to his friends as it would brand him a traitor.
He truly does believe in most of the autobot cause but he’s come to learn the original decepticon cause had its points too.
And so it made it all the more easier to find himself in the bed of not one but two decepticons.
Not just any decepticons.
Two of the most powerful and terrifying decepticons and bots known in the galaxy.
Blitzwing and Shockwave.
Bumblebee finds himself disappearing from all optics the moment he finds out of sparkling’s gestation.
His autobot brethern continue battling while keeping an optic out for him not believing his note of, “I’m sorry but I’m resigning. Please don’t come searching for me. One day I will return but until then, may the odds be in your favor.”
Such a cryptic letter so unlike the friendly and outgoing bot alarmed the others but with a war going on they cannot spend every moment in search of him. No matter how much they want to.
On the other side of things the decepticons have noticed the absence of bumblebee but none are more concerned than both Blitzwing and Shockwave.
Neither were oblivious to Bumblebee sleeping with the other they simply shared his time, company and affection when granted on their own respective times. Shockwave would bring Bee to his quarters strictly late into the night and the next Bee would find himself in Blitzwings quarters.
There was a silent agreement between the two to keep their little companion safe and out of harms reach both during his time with them on and off the battlefield.
They were clever in holding back when facing him, as powerful as their shared scout was they were stronger. They appreciated his intelligence and clever tactics to make up for lack of strength and size but it would only go so far and do so much.
So discovering Bumblebee was gone without so much as a word to them and infiltrating the autobot base to find the vague letter left them completely blindsided. Something neither, especially Shockwave, liked.
“His spark signature isn’t showing on any of my private systems,” Shockwave informed the triple changer.
“I haven’t found him in my searches of the sky either,” hot-head growled to the focused and searching mech.
A whirr and Shockwave was greeted with the unusual and worrying sight of a down faced Random.
“Its not like him to do this..do you think someone took him?”
Shockwave was silent for a moment before turning away and clicking faster at the computer.
“To better cover ground we search when I find a precise location.”
“And if you don’t?” Icy wondered in his thick accent.
“That course of action is improbable. I will find his spark location,” Shockwave declared with certainty, “and if someone did take him,” his red optic glared dangerously at the screen as he spoke with a dark tone, “They’ll wish their spark never left the well.”
The drive was long but Bumblebee found himself stopping to rest once more. He’d never found himself having to rest before being sparked but now as he takes a moment to catch his breath and soothe his aching chassis, spark chamber and joints.
He didn’t think the symptoms would start to pile up on him so soon but seeing as he wasn’t just sparked with one but two, he guessed they were taking even more out of him than he originally thought. All the more reason for him to leave as soon as he did.
He could feel the growing curve of his chassis and he could feel his hips already starting to spread. As dangerous as he knew it would be he couldn’t find it in himself to stay. His teammates would be so disappointed and he wasn’t sure what to make of Shockwave and Blitzwings reactions.
As much as he grew to foolishly trust and love them he knew their odd found relationship was no place for news of an upcoming sparkling. He can admit to himself the fear of their rejection and finding out of the growing sparklings within him helped seal his decision to leave.
As much as he adorned loved even, his time with the two, he could never trust them to put their own sparkling much less him above the cause. He didn’t want his sparklings anywhere near Megatron and as much as it pained him to admit he didn’t want them around the others either.
With their sire being decepticons life would not be kind to them around other autobots. He didn’t want the people he knew and loved as family looking at his sparklings with disgust nor did he wish for them to grow anywhere near the war.
He would head to the forgotten base within the deep mountains and take all the energon left behind and open a gate to the closest neutral territory he could find. From there he would make his way further into the neutral zone for added safety.
There were plenty of former autobots and decepticons that lived together who achieved peace on other planets. He could settle there and raise his sparklings. No one would ever look there for him and he doubted Shockwave or Blitzwing would remember or care of his disappearance after a few more weeks let alone months after he was gone.
The thought pained him and he felt a flutter from his spark chamber that brought him comfort he desperately needed. Yet pushed aside after a moments more of rest.
“I promise, little ones, I love you both. More than you’ll know what to do with.”
With a little more energy and a fresh reminder of his resolve he slowly transformed and headed off, arriving at the base a few days later. Grateful for the energon he greedily drank as he rested near the control panel. He would give himself a moments rest before opening a bridge and leaving through it.
His mind and spark couldn’t stop debating hurrying and resting on the other side and sitting to rest just a bit longer. In the end he found himself almost dozing after consuming more energon than someone his size would normally consume.
He felt his spark racing the moment he awoke and he rushed to open a bridge the moment he collected enough energon in a pouch and waited for the bridge to fully open.
He was mere moments away from stepping towards the gate when a space bridge opened behind him.
The sound of two heavy footsteps halting him into place as his body froze into place. Optics wide and spark racing he felt familiar eyes on his back as his door-wings twitched in fear as they lowered to cover him slightly.
His body finally seemed to spring to life as he half turned to look at the two he least expected to come through the gate. Watching as they both kept their eyes solely on him and the glowing gate behind him.
His fuel tank lurched almost moving him with it as he slowly inched towards the gate trying to seem as if he was just getting a better look at the two.
Silence engulfed them as their optics stayed on one another.
Bee hadn’t planned on them searching for him and now here they were. Having found him at the worse opportune time.
How was he supposed to get out of here now?
How could he play this off?
Did they know?
Is that why they came?
‘Just what am I going to do now?’

thank you so much, that's so kind!! this is the post in question (which was inspired by this gorgeous set) and i'll break down how to do it step by step below the cut!

i ended up saving this gif as a psd because i remember it taking me so long and being really frustrating, i just wasn't sure why. for reference, i posted that set back in september, just over four months ago. looking at the psd, i can see just how far i've grown as a gifmaker bc that thing is a hot mess. i made it about 3x more complicated than it needed to be, so let's do this the right way lol note: i was still using 0.07 frame rate at this point. i have since switched to 0.05 for smoother, quicker gifs.
what we're going to do is create all of these gifs separately and put them together at the end. in total, there are 6 individual gifs. let's start with harry.
i gif by importing video frames to layers, but if you prefer to screencap, load those in instead. because this ends up being a pretty large gif, both in size and length, i kept it to 20 frames per clip.
once you're satisfied with the frames you've chosen, crop your canvas to 540px x 540px. this is what i'm left with

this is when i sharpen my gifs. everyone's process is a little different. i created my own sharpening action, which converts my frames to video timeline and then sharpens.
the next step is to color your gif. if you're going for the overall look in mine, here were my layers:

a brightness/contrast layer with brightness set to 31 and contrast to 5. this will depend on the scene you're working with

a levels layer using the black and white eyedroppers. the top one is your black eyedropper. to use it, click it and select the blackest part of your gif. do the same with the white eyedropper and select the lightest part of your gif. you may need to play around with selecting different points depending on your scene and the original coloring

finally, a simple black & white gradient map layer on top
now we're going to add the thin rectangular border in the middle of the gif. i use the rectangle shape tool for this (press U on your keyboard) and these are my settings (x and y coordinates don't matter):

to center it perfectly, i use ctrl+T and drag it until it snaps into place with both the vertical and horizontal guides.
next, let's add the "choose your gentleman" text that goes at the top of the border. here is the font i chose and its settings:

once again, press ctrl+t and drag this to the vertical center of your gif and to the center of the top of the border. you should feel and see it snap into place. this is what we have now:

now, we're going to use a layer mask on the border so we can read the text. select the rectangle layer and click the layer mask button

with the layer mask selected (as shown in the second image), use the rectangular marquee tool (M on your keyboard) to draw a rectangle around your text, taking care to keep it just a little larger

as you can see, you'll know when you're perfectly centered through your text layer and vertically on the entire canvas. select your brush tool without deselecting this rectangle (B on your keyboard) and paint the selection with a black brush. this masks that part of the border!

let's add the small square gif that goes at the bottom of the border now. i think the easiest way of doing this is to use the rectangular shape tool (U) again. the size of this gif is 110x110, so create a black square of that size with no stroke. Use ctrl+T to drag it to the center of the bottom of the border (the x and y coordinates don't matter):

now duplicate your original gif layer (ctrl+J) and drag it to the top of the layer panel. right click on it and create clipping mask. this will make it so the gif only appears within the confines of the square we just created. resize your gif by using ctrl+T and, making sure the proportions are locked, drag the corners to the edges of the square.

this gif is not colored at all as we only duplicated the gif itself and not the coloring layers. i duplicated those as well and dragged them on top of our small gif, but it's important to make sure those are using the clipping mask as well. you can click this on the properties layer of each adjustment layer to make sure they do.

you'll know you've been successful when you see the small arrow next to each of your coloring layers. this keeps them from affecting the coloring of the larger, main gif.
we're going to change the gradient map adjustment layer from black & white to black & lime green (or the color of your choosing). click on that layer and then on the map. this will bring up the gradient editor. click on the small white color stop at the far right end of the gradient and then on the color picker, choose a new color.

the hex code i used for the lime green is #00ff0c
our last steps are the angle brackets on either side of the gif and harry's name in the center. here are the settings i used for those (angle brackets on the left and harry on the right):

by now, you know how to utilize ctrl+T to move these layers where you'd like them. harry's name is centered horizontally and vertically and rotated at a bit of an angle and the angle brackets are centered horizontally and i just eyeballed where to put them in relation to the space between the border and the edge of the gif.
this is the complete first gif. what i would do for your own sanity since you have two more of these two create is 1) save it as a psd just in case something crashes and 2) don't convert it to a smart object until you have all 3 gifs completed and are ready to put them together.
the nice part about having the first one done is you've ultimately done the hard part. create your two other gifs, but you'll be using at least roughly the same coloring and all the same text, just with the colors adjusted, so you can drag those layers from your completed first gif to your others as you work on them.
once you have all 3 gifs completed and still on 3 separate canvases (and saved as psds bc this is adobe friggin photoshop and shit breaks all the time), convert all layers on all the gifs to smart objects. this will simplify the final gif and make things much easier.
then, bring gif #2 and gif #3 both onto gif #1's canvas. this is what it will look like at first on the timeline and in your layer panel:

to get the gifs to play after one another rather than simultaneously, you just have to drag them after one another on the timeline!

a little bit hard to show the actual process, but you're just clicking the bertie layer and dragging it down to harry's line after the harry layer. then do the same with the jamie layer, dragging it down to the harry layer after bertie. when you're done, it should look like this:

btw, the little slider i circled is what enlarges or shrinks the timeline view, so if you need to see something broken down a bit more/slower, drag it to the right. if you need to zoom out, drag it to the left.
and that's it! export and save your gif!

How to clone CAS CC into multiple categories while keeping filesize to a minimum
Thanks to Monochaos and amethyst lilac for the help I am using @simandy's Spotlight V2 CC to demonstrate
💜 Explanation
You might want to have some CC in multiple categories, for example if you want to layer them, if you want to have more options if a category is already taken, etc.
This however will create the issue, that it will take up a lot of PC storage space if you keep everything inside the package, textures etc. which can slow down your game.

💜 How does this work
Instead of loading it's own textures, the file you created takes the exact textures from the original file on all of the swatches.
That is why it also only works if the original file is in the game too.

Your package you want to have in multiple categories

💜 Tutorial
1.Place the package you want to clone inside the Mods folder of Sims 4 Studio, NOT YOUR ACTUAL GAME For me it's: D:\Dokuments\Sims 4 Studio\Mods

2. Open the package file in Sims 4 Studio and extract the catalog thumbnail. Cloning it will not keep the thumbnail so if you want it, you need to add it manually. Export it as .png.

3. Go back to S4 Studio home and select "Create CAS Standalone"

4. Under "Content" select "Custom" and select all swatches of your package by Shift-Clicking the thumbnail. Then press "Next" and save your package under whatever name you want.

5. Import the thumbnail

6. Under Categories change "Outfit Type" to whatever you want and press "Apply to all swatches"

7. Save your package.
8. Now take both your package from the S4 Studio mods folder, the original package and and the one you just created and copy them into your actual game mods folder. For me it's: D:\Dokumens\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods As you can see, the file you just made is significantly smaller.

9. Check in-game if it worked. Yup.

If your Sim has a white and red texture overlay with question marks, you probably forgot to place the original file back into the game.

💜 How do I add the textures back in?
If you want your new package to work on its own again, do this:
1.Make sure the original file you used for cloning is still inside the S4 Studio mods folder
2. Open your cloned package
3. Go to "Tools - Modding - Embed all externally references resources (CAS)"

4. Now your Warehouse tab will be full again, the file will work on its' own and the filesize will be around the same size of the original package.

Welcome to Gothalites big Operator Rant!
I too love mushrooms! Which is how the idea for this operator came to be! i cant say im the most knowledgeable in shrooms, I know more about the ocean than mushrooms but I am fascinated by them! If i had to think for a real life example that is the closest to the mushroom in my AU it would simply be like an airborne/lichen/mushroom mix of Cordyceps. Yes, yes i know all three of those can be fungi! But the reason I specify ALL three is because the OperatorFungus is ALL three of them.

Originally the Operator was JUST a mushroom and NOT sentient in any way. It sprouted out of the ground with some of the first mushrooms ever recorded, 715 - 810 million years ago. And it existed along them, the same as all. When the Operator Fungus first formed it had the cap shape of a Calocybe fallax with a sunken cap! Pictured below! [ image 1] While also containing the properties of a puffball mushroom! [ image 2], its ability being to 'blow out smoke'.

These two traits carried over the most with the operators change as an entity. His head shape mimics the Calocybe fallax sunken cap with the different parts of the fungus growing up around his head! [ Pictured below, image 1 ] The Puffballs ability to create smoke carried over as well, in the form of spores and the 'fog' that follows the operator. Unlike the Puffball the operator doesnt have to be inflicted with a strong force to create the fog, the flakes from the lichen as well as the spores are a constant natural byproduct!
In the second image blow you can see the operators back! Around his tentacles are very small [ drawn larger for easier viewing ] openings, trough which the constant smoke / spores are dispersed in extremely small amounts! The only reason the fog is so visible around it at a lot of times is simply for visual representation in art! However the fog may become thick in areas where the operator dwells for longer times [ Example, its office]

NOW FOR THE LICHEN!!!

The lichen present on the operator wasnt always there and wasnt always needed. At first, as explained earlier it started out as any regular fungus in its size, just like any other mushroom it could fend for itself. However after changing in size and appearance the OperatorFungus needed more help to sustain itself. Usually Lichen appears on thing such as rocks or trees, [depicted above] not other mushrooms.
Lichen is important for nutrient cycling and many animals feed on it! Animals such as reindeer!! Now, raindeer arent the only animals to feed on lichen, however they are crucial to the reason why there is lichen around OperatorFugi!
The specific type of fungus which the Operator is thrives in DEAD MATTER. Meaning it best operates when surrounded by rotting things, atleast in its case. With the change in size the requirement for upkeep grew, and the lichen served as the perfect way to attract animals such as Raindeer.

While for a long time the Operator depended on this lichen, thanks to proxies, it no longer does. However the lichen is there to stay,
so keep an eye out when you see a lone mushroom surrounded by lichen and fog.

@turnkeyassurance saw your tags and figured I'd take the opportunity to pause my descent into madness to give my more sober opinions on the Ni no Kuni franchise, lol. (Warning: I am a humongous JRPG nerd)
The NNK games are really odd ducks, quality-wise. You can call either one a good game or a bad game and call either one better than the other, and any combination of those opinions can be something I think is entirely justified. Both of them have things they do remarkably well and also serious, profound, deal-breaking flaws, and the really weird thing is that there's almost no overlap between those two lists for the two games. What clicks and doesn't about both of them is going to be deeply individual.
What Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch does, with resounding success, is Vibes. It sets out at every single step with the goal of being a playable Ghibli movie, and it sticks to that principle. It's all about beautiful, cel-shaded whimsy. It's a game for people who want to feel like they're wandering through the meadows in the movie version of Howl's Moving Castle. There are lots of puns, and you can befriend all the random encounter monsters and feed them ice cream.
But that's also its Achilles' heel: because it's dedicated entirely to imitation, it has trouble bringing things to the table that are really its own. It has the visual and narrative aesthetics of Hayao Miyazaki's films, but it doesn't have the raw emotion at the heart of them. And as a game, its mechanics combine the clunkiest features of menu-based combat and action RPGs, and while everything about the Pokemon-esque mechanics seems designed to encourage players to collect and experiment with them, the balancing turns attempting to do that into a miserable grindy nightmare.
The other problem is that it... isn't actually the first Ni no Kuni game. Wrath of the White Witch is, in fact, a remake of the Nintendo DS game Ni no Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn, which was never released outside Japan. The reason for this is pretty easy to explain, because DDD had another gimmick besides its aesthetics: it came with a real-life physical copy of the wizard spellbook, and the player had to look things up in it and draw sigils on the DS touchscreen to cast spells. So, we've got a high-effort remake that had to completely cut the central mechanic... and which also expanded the plot so that the original main villain was no longer the primary antagonist. This results in a game with what is very clearly a final dungeon and very clearly a final boss and very clearly a resolution to the story, which suddenly has a completely different plot dropped on it like a fucking anvil that it expects you to be just as invested in even though it hasn't had anything like the same level of buildup.
And ironically, this is almost the exact opposite of the biggest problem with Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, a.k.a. the one with my new blorbo, the President of the United Union of Eagleland. 2 is an effort to try to cement an identity for the series that can be its own, rather than requiring them to depend indefinitely on borrowed Miyazaki nostalgia. It just has the teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy problem that at some point in development it had a budget shortfall so bad that you can finish the game without ever realizing that there is a continent-sized crashed interdimensional spaceship on the world map.
This game has had a machete taken to it. Don't get me wrong, I genuinely respect the work they did to make what they could with what they had, but you can see the signs of massive scope cuts to literally every aspect of the game. The back half of the game has almost exclusively recycled enemy and environment assets; voice acting has been trimmed down to canned voice clips; the catboy protagonist's ears and tail are barely animated; one minigame was so inadequately playtested that a level 16 mission is massively harder than level 50 ones; and while whatever restructuring they had to do to the main plot still left the final version with a more solid and coherent central arc than WWW in my opinion, it also left a lot of truly gaping plot holes, like oh, I don't know, why the President of the United States got turned into a 19-year-old.
Literally, they just. Entirely forgot to explain that. Half the DLC is just the writers scrambling to fix stuff like that and add a bunch of character development that should have been in the base game.
However, despite all this, I personally enjoyed NNK2 more than NNK1 unironically, not just for Rolandposting reasons. Compared to the first one, it plays much more smoothly as a straight action RPG, and while it can't provide the same knock-your-socks-off aesthetic cohesion, to me it seemed a lot more heartfelt- that is, like a game that was made because people had a story they wanted to tell.
But, well, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the non-unironic reasons, because the story they really, genuinely wanted to tell was about a magical catboy growing up and learning to become a leader, and somehow, miraculously, they really thought that was the story I was here for too when they opened the game with the President of the United States being isekaied by Nuke-kun.
Sorry, guys, I have a crippling addiction to dramatic irony and my day job is tech work in local politics, you could not have more laser-targeted this at making me specifically laugh my ass off if you tried.

The Roboto Club was not a place Peter thought he'd ever find himself. It was small, stuffy, and definitely sticky. The walls were covered in stickers and signatures of bands who had played there (as well as patrons who'd come up with some very colorful insults). The thumping of music filled his ears as his body was jostled by those around him. As he tried to force himself to not freak out from the overstimulation, he made himself remember why he was here:
Gen-ed courses were the worst. Peter had already earned a semester’s worth of college credits in high school, but it wasn’t enough to save him from the agonizing hour and a half long lectures about the Industrial Revolution. His one saving grace had come in the form of a chewed-up number two pencil tapping against the desk next to him.
From the first day of class, he could hear it. Rhythmic pulses of the eraser followed by the staccato of the graphite. He'd glanced over, seeing the owner of the pencil lazily watching the lecture, busy clicking the utensil against the desk instead of writing. He had always assumed it was some sort of nervous tick of theirs until he paid more attention to the beat. There was a pattern to it--the thump of the eraser and the click of the graphite.
Thump. Thump-thump, click-click. Thump. Thump-thump, click-click.
It was a month into the course when he noticed that no matter how it may change, they always held a steady beat with the pencil. It was around this same time when he began hearing the humming. Peter thought he was hearing things at first from how quiet it was. It was too melodic to be an insect, so the bee-theory was ruled out quickly. When he listened in a little closer, he was able to find that the faint noise he was hearing had been coming from the Pencil-Tapper.
When deep in concentration, they had the tendency to hum under their breath. It was like they didn't even notice. They would be moving from typing out notes on their laptop to scribbling on a post-it when they'd start mumbling out a soft melody. Though it was rare, sometimes these murmured melodies would align with the beat of their pencil.
Peter had always been known to be a star student, no matter how boring a class may be, but this Pencil-Tapper was a welcome reprieve from the monotonous lecture he was subjected to twice a week. It was nothing more than innocent interest, of course. No creepy stalking or constant surveillance. Just a way to pass the time as the professor droned on.
Two months into the class, the first lecture of the week had just ended. As always, Peter and the Pencil-Tapper packed their stuff away in humdrum routine. What was different, though, was when the Tapper's pencil fell from their desk. It rolled slowly enough that it hit the ground without a sound, but, of course, Peter heard it. His breath hitched.
He had two options: grab the pencil or ignore it entirely. The kind thing to do would be to return it, but the difficult part of that would be that he would have to return it. Chewing his lip, he looked down at it. It was so small, sharpened down to half its original size. Surely, they wouldn't mind missing something like that. When he looked up, he saw them already walking away. Damn his savior complex.
"Hey," Peter called, his fingers wrapped around the end of the pencil that wasn't ridden with bite marks, "You dropped this."
"Oh, thanks," Tapper's voice came out slow as they looked down at the pencil, "Gross. Sorry about that."
"No big deal." He shook his head, handing over the utensil with a small smile. They returned the grin and turned to exit when Peter interrupted with a small cough.
"Um—" Peter, you dumb, dumb kid, you have nothing to say, why the hell are you speaking? "—So, you tap a lot."
That seemed to catch them off guard. They stopped, letting students filter out of the classroom beyond them. With a quirk of their head, they began speaking again, "I didn't realize I was that loud."
"You're not!" Peter rushed out, "No, no, I just meant that sometimes I get bored, and I sort of tune in to your tapping. Not, like, in a weird way."
"I see," they tutted, "Well, I mean, if you're interested in the pencil tapping, maybe you'd like to hear it on the drums?"
Silence fell between them. It was only for a few seconds, but it felt more like a few hours. The gears in Peter's head turned a little slower than he was used to.
"That was a stupid question, sorry," Tapper let out a sheepish chuckle.
"Not at all," Peter replied quickly, "I just realized that you must've been tapping actual songs."
"Oh, yeah," they nodded, "I'm in a band—Dial 616? We're not big or anything."
"Cool," Peter grinned, regaining a fraction of his calm.
"We have a gig this Saturday at the Roboto. It's just off campus," they explained, "You could totally come if you want. I mean, if you're interested in hearing actual music, not just tapping."
And so he came. The Robot Club was located in a skinny building wedged between a record store and a laundromat. Admission was ten dollars, and there were a few acts. The music was loud and sort of overwhelming, but he held on. Somewhere between the second and third act, he wondered why he was subjecting himself to this. He was reminded when Dial 616 was introduced.
Tapper looked a lot different from the normal sweatpants and t-shirt he'd usually seen them in. Dramatic makeup had been painted on their face that had the illusion of changing color with the flashing of the club's LEDs. Ripped jeans, chunky black boots, a tank top, and two battered drumsticks finished off their outfit. There were four other members of the band, all in equally striking clothes. The crowd around Peter whooped in recognition as they took to the stage, introducing their first song.
They played a few originals and a few covers, Peter's favorite of which being their rendition of California Über Alles. Tapper was a force on the drums. Their face was drawn in utter concentration as they slammed away. They moved from precise beats to messy patterns all without ever losing control of the tempo or their sticks.
When their set was over, they hopped from the makeshift stage, leaving the borrowed instruments there for the next band. Peter was sure it wasn't concert etiquette to immediately follow them, but his body was moving on its own accord. He threaded through the people and to the clump that formed around the band. Maybe they weren't huge yet, but there were still a lot of people bombarding them with screams and hollers of excitement. He noticed Tapper at the end of the of the band members, smiling as they signed someone's arm with a sharpie. When they were done, they looked up, and just like fate, their eyes met Peter's.
"Hey!" They greeted, their voice loud over the already booming music of the next band, "You came. I didn't think you would."
"Why wouldn't I?" He asked, unable to wipe the grin off his face.
"Well, because we only talked once. And you don't know my name, and I don't know yours," they said. Their tone held no malice or condescension, just the aftershocks of adrenaline from being on stage.
"I'm Peter." He had to yell to be heard.
"Y/n," they replied. There was another moment of standstill silence. This time, though, it wasn't awkward. It would actually be calm if not for the thunderous clash of drums behind them.
"I have to go, but, uh, we were gonna go out for pizza if you wanted to come?" Y/n suggested, their behavior suddenly coy in contrast with their appearance.
"Yeah—okay," Peter grinned. They offered him one last smile before disappearing with the rest of the band. Gen-ed actually wasn't that bad after all.

you suggested dora with the backpack, which is very valid, but my brain also jumps to daphne blake from scooby doo bc that girl carries a tiny ass purse and has everything under the sun and can make shit on the fly like nothing (there was one episode where she made a hydroelectric battery to power the mystery machine like it was nothing lol)
so taking both of those vibes and jumping headfirst in!!! here's a tidbit from how I think a fic with that might go!! (also I kept reader gender neutral in this one, bc you didn't specify any pronouns!)
It's finally happened, Soap is sure of it. The 141 has finally run into a situation that BP isn't gonna have the supplies for.
BP is the callsign of the team medic, which is why you could be forgiven for thinking their name is short for 'blood pressure.'
It's not.
It's short for 'backpack.'
Soap had chuckled when he first heard it, but those little chuckles quickly died when he realised his superiors were serious. All they'd say was that you were uniquely skilled at anticipating the needs of your teammates on any given mission, as well as a well-qualified and well-trained field medic and surgeon.
That first mission, everything had gone FUBAR, including the exfil being shot down, leaving the team stranded in enemy territory with their only possible transport being new black-market Humvees with remote locking systems that were thus far unbreakable. Price and Ghost had been conversing over a plan of attack when you'd simply opened up your ever present backpack and pulled out a small handheld remote. Flipping a switch, you pointed it at the nearest Humvee, and an audible click! indicated it was now unlocked.
They'd all stared for a solid minute before you coughed and said "Uh, about that exfil?" and the team jerked into action and dove for the doors of their new escape vehicle. When asked what the fuck kind of wizard tech you had, you simply shrugged and said it was a universal remote.
Soap had figured it for a one-off. He'd never been more wrong.
Ghost's balaclava gets irreparably damaged and covered in gross bodily fluids? You've got a brand new one in the exact size he needs, made from water resistant fabric.
Price's cigars get lost in (yet another) heli crash? You've got a brand new box of Maduro cigars in that backpack, the only explanation being that you'd "found them while out shopping."
Gaz loses his ball cap, and you whip out a spare without even a second glance, shoving it onto his head without a care in the world, even as he's sputtering because "how the hell do you have the same damn cap? I bought that old one years ago!"
Alejandro's iPod gets destroyed after the team has to flee through a river and all their gear gets waterlogged, and out of a Ziploc, you pull a brand new one with the headphones he likes, and he's shocked to see it's downloaded with all his favorite songs, and the default setting is currently on Spanish.
Rudy's a diabetic, and his insulin pump gets damaged in a knife fight, and not only do you have insulin for him, you have a brand new pump as well, and specific snacks that will help him hold out till he can replace the pump. It's originally brushed off that you have this because of being the team's doctor, until Rudy points out that you don't actually have access to his medical records, with him being Mexican Special Forces and you being SAS.
And Soap? Soap ran out of room in his journal one day, in the middle of trying to sketch and he hadn't realized how close he was to the end, so he hadn't brought a spare. Before he even has the chance to feel disappointed, you're slipping a brand new journal with the exact right type of paper he prefers into his hands.
It's not just personal stuff either. Any tool, gadget, gizmo, whirlygig, or thingamabob they could think of, you just... had it. Wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, lockpicks, extra mags, oil, cleaning rags, padlocks, bolt cutters, bandaids, needles, suture thread, ice packs, heat packs, gauze, hair ties, bobby pins, the list goes on and on and on.
Never, not once had there been a situation where the team had needed something that you couldn't pull from the dark, yawning pit that you called a backpack.
Except, Soap is confident that this time, you don't have what they need. You couldn't possibly have predicted this outcome.
The mission had been a comedy of errors, the team racing across the globe, bouncing between countries, hopping from continent to continent tracking the HVT Laswell had sent the lot of you after. Through a completely random turn of events, you'd ended up in the United States of all places, in the wooded areas of Washington state. It wasn't a state park, per se, but close enough. Supposedly, there was a cache here that the HVT frequented, and might have valuable intel.
Unfortunately, your way had been blocked by some State Park Rangers, who demanded that you either provide proof of registration that allowed you to be there, or the team had to leave.
Of course, being members of the SAS and Fuerzas Especiales, who operated out of Europe and Mexico respectively, the likelihood of any of them having the right paperwork was infinitesimal.
"Hold on!"
Soap whirled around at the sound of your voice. There you were, rummaging through your backpack.
"No fuckin' way," Gaz whispered, the rest of the team going deathly still.
There was absolutely, positively, no possible way on God's green Earth that you were gonna–
"Found it!"
You let out a whoop of excitement, pulling a small rectangular piece of plastic from your bag, a hole through the top indicating that it might go in a car, hanging from the rearview mirror.
"Here's our permit for the Washington State Parks and Forestry. Just renewed it, too."
The Rangers took it sceptically, but their faces cleared as they looked it over.
"Everything seems to be in order then, ma'am. Sorry for the delay and confusion."
"No problem!" You chirped, ignorant of the dumbfounded stares at your back. "Have a good day, gentlemen!"
Soap felt dizzy. He felt weak. He might actually collapse here on the spot from pure confusion alone. He could faintly hear Gaz muttering behind him, and in his peripheral vision, Alejandro was shaking with silent laughter, and Rudy looked like he'd just been handed the answers to the universe's greatest mysteries.
This had to be a dream. Soap refused to accept reality otherwise.
The Rangers left, and there was a heavy, oppressive silence that settled over the team. BP turned to look at everyone with a smile on their face, only for it to fall when they saw the stunned, blank looks their teammates wore.
"What's wrong?"
Bless 'em, they sounded so confused, but Soap really had no way to express just what he or any of the others were feeling in this moment.
As BP's face fell further, Price surged forward and scooped their medic and resident pack rat into a hug. They let out a small eep! at the sudden constricting pressure around their ribs. It was difficult to hug with tac vests on, but Price was determined.
"C-Captain? Are you alright?"
"Never change, soldier," Price said gruffly, and Soap could hear the disbelieving grin in his CO's voice. "Never fuckin' change."

And give a round of applause to my wonderful and wonderfully talented friend @yesjejunus who returns to guest art duty with this new issue, which is just another car crashing into the pile-up that is happening to Agnes in the closing half of Volume 2. Issue #25 will be all of my own art again, and I've been working for a long time on reinventing the look, feel, and production of IKROAH's artstyle so I hope you'll all be as excited as I am. Some really big things are about to happen.
Original Pencils
Here's another reason why mr. jejunus deserves a round of applause: patience. I talk often about how IKROAH is a very long-term project but this issue marks the longest collaboration in the history of the comic: the original pencils for this issue were drawn in August 2021. This was also when yesjejunus and I first discussed him doing guest art for this issue, and it would have been a lot sooner, of course, but you know, things (like months of burnout) can just happen. By the time this issue was finally next in the queue, I had committed to increasing the resolution of IKROAH's pages just to ease my own production, but these pencils were still formatted for the old size. I had to reformat these pencils for the new size and aspect ratio.

The thing about working with yesjejunus on comic issues like this is that at this point we're so deep in each other's heads that I barely even need to give him feedback. He understands the assignment completely because we're both sickos pressed against each other's brain-windows going "Yes…ha ha ha…yes!" and drooling. It's the kind of friendship as well as creative partnership that you really just treasure.
Transcript
INT. BENNY'S BEDROOM, THE TOPS CASINO, NEW VEGAS.
AGNES SANDS stares down, exhausted, at BENNY, the leader of the Chairmen and the man who shot her in the head.
BENNY does not stare back. He is dead. His eyes have rolled up lifelessly and blood is oozing from the gruesome wound in his skull.
AGNES looks away.
Suddenly—
SFX: KNOCK KNOCK
VOICE FROM OUTSIDE (off): Hey, Ben-man! Everything alright in there?
AGNES jerks up in surprise. She searches her surroundings frantically, looking for a way out. The gun that she shot BENNY with—the gun that BENNY shot her with—is still in her hand. She sees a side door, barely ajar, leading out of BENNY'S BEDROOM with a dim light coming from behind it.
AGNES sprints forward, her arm outstretched to shove open the door, and barges in. Then she freezes in her tracks. In front of her is a large and ambulatory machine, with claw-like arms and a computer monitor in its center. The monitor displays an unchanging vector of a happily smiling face. It speaks.
THE MACHINE: Hello! I'm Yes Ma—
AGNES raises the gun with both hands and fires repeatedly, her eyes wide and mouth agape in terror. She empties it of every single other bullet that was left in it.
THE MACHINE (shorting out): I-I'm sorry…!!
THE MACHINE crumples from the repeated shots, which shatter its monitor-face like a glass window and send it falling backwards. Its robotic corpse snaps and cracks with electricity and malfunctioning hardware as AGNES remains stunned in the doorway.
SFX: KNOCK KNOCK
AGNES looks up as BENNY'S men pound harder on the door to the suite.
VOICE FROM OUTSIDE (off): Benny! We heard shots! We're coming in!
AGNES drops the gun and flees through the hallway's secret private elevator.
VOICE FROM OUTSIDE (off): Oh, shit, somebody iced 'im! Get security!

Hi, Nik! I hope you are doing well! If it's okay with you, I have a question about your Pedro birthday edit.How did you get pictures to overlay with the gifs? I'm familiar with gif overlay efect, but this is the first time I've seen an image and gif overlay. It looks so cool. Best wishes.
hi there! getting this effect is super easy! you're simply adding an image layer above your gif and its adjustment layers. since you're familiar with gif overlays, I'm going to assume you're asking how to create a cutout (aka erase the image's background) in order to make that image appear as though it's on top of the gif like this:

there are a few methods for creating an image cutout (click and zoom for a better view). more info below the cut:

in the tool bar, the lasso and selection tools are the 3rd and 4th, and they're nested (so you have to right click the tools to see the other options):

first, let me say: the image you choose will greatly determine how simple or annoying it is to cut the subject. if you find a high-quality image with a solid, high-contrast background, making a cutout will be a breeze. if the background is busy and the edges are fuzzy, it'll be a bit more challenging.
my personal fav tool in most cases is the Quick Selection tool because I find it's, well, quick. you just click a bunch of times until everything you want is outlined by the dotted line. and it works well for both images with solid backgrounds and busy backgrounds. but here's a short explanation of each tool:
Magic Wand: automatically detects a portion of your image using "machine learning" to approximate a selection (a bit too finicky for detailed images or ones with low contrast between the subject and background for me)
Object Selection: allows you to draw a rectangle or ellipse around the subject and automatically detects the selection (I've only used this once, but you can see in the image above, it did a pretty good job! that was just one click)
Quick Selection: my fav! you can adjust the brush size and continually click your subject until the dotted line is outlining it fully
Magnetic Lasso: haphazardly draw a line around your subject and this tool will smart-detect the edges and "snap" anchor points around your subject like a magnet. it's relatively accurate except around finer details like hair
Polygonal Lasso: the most manual and, therefore, my least favorite of the options (hence why I didn't finish it in the example above lol). you have to click all around the subject to connect the dots. not fun for subjects with lots of curves and crevices (at least not for me)
whatever option you choose, the most important part for perfecting the selection is the "Select and Mask..." tool in the upper toolbar:

this tool opens a new panel where you can refine the selection and see the effects in real time. I don't have any go-to numbers for this, it's all about tinkering with the sliders until you're happy with it. but I usually play with everything except Feather because I want sharp edges.
in the gif below, I used the Refine Hair tool (which refines the selection around the hair automatically), moved the sliders very minimally because my selection using Quick Selection was already pretty decent. then, I'm showing you the effects of Shift Edge. increasing it pushes the selection outward, creating a sort of buffer. this could be good if you want to go in later with a layer mask and manually erase some parts yourself. decreasing Shift Edge pulls the selection in tighter. I wouldn't recommend decreasing too much as this can cut off too much of your subject:

once you're happy, click OK and you'll come back to your normal screen with the dotted lines. simply use the Command+J shortcut to duplicate your selection — leaving you with the original image and a layer with only the cutout. from there, you can add a black and white background to check if you missed any bits, and then use a layer mask and black brush to erase them:

then, just like you would if you were overlaying a gif, add the image layer ABOVE your gif and adjustment layers, and color the image separately if needed. you can also choose to add the image above or below your text layers if you have any. in my case, the image is above the text:
