What happened to your Society6 store? It seems like there's a lot less designs available than there used to be. I was hoping to get some tapestries but everything is gone...

Wow! This ask made me go check out my Society6 shop — and you’re right, it’s pretty much all gone! So, here’s the story on that for anyone who hasn’t heard:

Society6 decided that their outsized profit from artists wasn’t cutting it — they now require artists to pay a monthly subscription for the privilege of letting Society6 profit off of them, while foisting additional shipping fees onto the artist and reducing their payments on top of that. I had heard some months back that they were planning to switch to a subscription model, and it looks like since I didn’t pay up, they permanently deleted everything except 10 random pieces of art from my shop. They did this without notifying me at all (classy!) after years of making tens of thousands of dollars off of my work — but weirdly, this is kind of a relief for me?

My cut of Society6 sales were already a laugh even before the proposed changes (I make more money from someone dropping like $20 at my personal print shop than I do from someone buying $100+ of my stuff from Society6) but the tapestries and blankets were so cool and I loved how much people enjoyed them, so I kept my art available there. They've deleted nearly all of my work now, so I'll go finish the job and close out my account for good.

Anyway, it’s disappointing, but Society6 has chosen to suck profoundly at this point in time. Totally scummy treatment of the artists whose work is the foundation of their entire business model. I’m lucky enough to have a supportive audience and never relied on Society6, but I feel badly for artists whose livelihoods have been impacted by this. (If you’re one of those artists, know this: you deserve better compensation for your hard work than what S6 is giving you!)

OK, with all that said — I’m bringin’ tapestries back, baby! They can’t keep this cowboy off the range! Right now I’ve ordered samples from some different places to compare quality, and once I’ve settled on a manufacturer I‘ll be making them available at my print shop. I’ll post on my socials when I’ve sorted it out!

Spotted crake or Porzana porzana

The spotted crake is a small waterbird of the family Rallidae. The scientific name is derived from Venetian terms for small rails. These birds probe with their bill in mud or shallow water, also picking up food by sight. They mainly eat insects and aquatic animals.

You have no idea how long this took, but I made some phone case designs! And you can get them as other stuff, but I started this project when I get a new phone. One of these is transparent and designed for stickers specifically. These are available on both Redbubble and Society6. See my post with details/disclaimers about the platform/quality differences here.

Designs: 1) “Promise?” S1 Sword of Protection (Base Version) Inspired by a season 5 promotional poster (near the bottom). Left to right, the First Ones script says “Promise?” and “I promise.” (Note: I chose to curve the final sound on “Promise?” to represent the upward tilt of a question) Colorways: sky blue (RB / S6), navy (RB / S6).

2) “Promise?” Broken S1 Sword of Protection (Variant) The addition at the bottom is an inversion of “She-ra”, a striking point for the sword. Colorways: sky blue (RB / S6), navy (RB / S6).

3) “Promise?” S5 Sword of Protection (Variant) Updated for season five, colorways are shifted to accommodate the new sword’s color palate, but otherwise it’s the same as the first version. Colorways: sky blue (RB / S6), pink (RB / S6), navy (RB / S6), maroon (RB / S6), lilac (RB only — I ran out of design slots on S6). Can you tell which design is my favorite child (which is funny because this is the last idea I had)?

4) Swords of Protection Decal Meant more for stickers and the like, this is a variant includes both the season 1 and season 5 sword design. (RB / S6)

s6 is rolling out their forced payment plans next month, and I'm only going to be able to have 10 designs at a time if I go with the free plan (tbd) So if you see anything you want I really recommend getting it before Nov 30th.

Holiday sales are just starting up so you should be able to get stuff pretty cheaply in the the coming weeks.

Do you know if you'll ever sell Tapestrys again?? I was big into your art in middle and highschool, and just found you again. I'm purchasing a few prints and shirts from you, but remember you had tapestries at one point for the wolf hotel (?) And some other eerie artworks. I would buy them up immediately if you ever drop it again!!!

Hi! Do you know why most of your designs on Society6 are gone? I had some in my cart yesterday and when I went to checkout today it says the designs don't exist anymore. Totally understand if you just decided you didn't want them up anymore, just wanted to double-check that the website didn't remove them without you knowing. Love your works!

yes! sadly Society6 has changed their policy, so if you keep a 'free' account with them you are only allowed to have 10 designs. A bit of a stinker! But it was always a side gig, my best work and products are always up on Topatoco, who pay me a much better rate than Society6 would even if I had a paid subscription!
