Through Their Eyes: Sodapop Curtis Edition
Tumblr media
Summary: Your relationship with Soda from the gangs perspective
A/N: It has been way too long since I’ve last written something... (due to writers block and covid...) But I am very glad to get back into writing now :)
 Also, I know someone request one of these for Darry, but my brain derailed itself lol. I will get that one done soon though.
If you would like to make a request take a look at (this post) for all of the characters I am currently writing for.
My Multi-fandom Masterlist
~~~
Dally didn’t have too much of an opinion on the pair of you. He thought you were cool, but nothing too jarring or shocking came to mind when he thought of you. He knew he wasn’t exactly the smarter when it came to love either, so he didn’t think he had too much of a place to try and place judgement on the two of you. He didn’t meddle or hang around with the two of you much, but he could tolerate you.
He wasn’t exactly the most... polite with new people he met. So  him tolerating you is a pretty good step for him.
~~~
It wasn’t that Darry didn’t want to like you; it was just that he knew how Soda worked. Soda has a pretty big heart, one that doesn’t always lead him to the most... reliable partners. He fell in love too quickly and part of Darry thought Soda didn’t really understand what love was at all. He rushed into things and moved so quickly that he sometimes blinded himself to the glaring red flags that were coming his way. So sure, Darry may have liked you, but trusting you was a bit harder for him to do. It wasn’t until one night that you had talked with him did he finally start to have a little faith in you.
Everyone had gone outside, giving the usually loud and lively house a moment of silence. Darry had hung back inside, trying to get the house back into a somewhat clean state, so he wouldn’t have as much to do when he woke up at the crack of dawn the next morning.
That’s when you struck...
He was at the sink, trying to finish cleaning the mountain of dishes that had accumulated after dinner. When suddenly, you popped up out of the corner of his eye, a towel was gripping in your hand.
“I’ll dry.” You muttered casually.
Darry wasn’t going to reject your offer. He didn’t really feel like doing even more work today.
You didn’t really say much for a bit. The both of you merely stood in a surprisingly comfortable silence.
But that silence didn’t last long.
“I know you’re trying pretty hard to be nice to me and don’t think I don’t appreciate your efforts in doing so.” You started, taking Darry aback. “But I know you don’t trust me.”
He didn’t know what to say at first. Your bluntness was pretty surprising to him.
“I think we both know him pretty well, he wears his heart on his sleeve-”
“I know he does and I know people in past haven’t exactly been the most loyal to him. Or haven’t felt as strongly as he did, he’s told me thing from before.” You interjected carefully.
“Exactly.” Darry replied.
“But I admire how open he is... especially when he’s grown up in a place where you can be pressured to be nothing but a emotionless, cool, hardass.” You spoke with hesitation. “I’m not going to be another reason for him to become something like that. I’m not that kind of person to take advantage of somebody like that.”
Darry looked over at you, as much as you were trying to convince him that you could be trusted. He couldn’t shake the skepticism he felt as you spoke...
“I’ve heard this before.”
“Look, I can’t promise that we’re going to be together forever but... if things were to end it wouldn’t be because of cheating or anything like that.” You promised.
Darry didn’t say anything. He instead opted to soak in your words a bit more.
“I’m not them, all I’m asking you to do is not put someone else’s past mistakes onto someone you don’t even know that well.” You stated confidently.
And with that, you walked off, leaving Darry to stew in his thoughts.
Maybe he could give you a bit more of a chance than he had before...
~~~ Steve was happy for his friend. Seeing him so content with somebody was great to see after past instances. He thought you were pretty cool, somebody he could get along with easily. But, one moment that had happened stuck out most in his mind...
The day was winding down and you had been waiting for Soda to get off work. Soda was in the back, restocking supplies they would need for the next rush of cars tomorrow while Steve was stuck at the counter. For a moment, just a brief moment, he thought the day would’ve ended calmly for once. But of course, a day couldn’t go by in Tusla that someone didn’t cause trouble. A random soc had walked in, with, of course, a whole group of them stacked in the back of their signature mustangs. It didn’t really phase Steve. It was something Soda and him dealt with on a regular basis. But you weren’t going to let them off the hook as easily as he and Soda would.
The soc didn’t say anything at first; he just stared at a random cooler trying to be inconspicuous. But he failed miserably; Steve was always on edge around socs... something about them would always set him off. It didn’t take long for the tall soc to begin his leering.
“Say,” The soc sneered, setting his beady eyes on you. “I’ve seen you around with that pretty b-”
“Yeah, what’s it to you?” You interrupted tensely.
“I just don’t get-”
“Why someone like me would end up with a greaser like that?” You interrupted again, you clearly didn’t want to give this boy anytime of day.
The soc began to look annoyed, clearly not liking the fact that you kept interrupting him.
“Look, I’ve heard these some words uttered to me for what feel like a million times before.” You got up from where you were sitting, approaching the boy without an ounce of hesitation. ”And honestly, I think you need to come up with some new material.”
“Excuse-”
“And you really need to stop drinking because your achohol stained breath is just as intolerable to me as your basic and completely replicated personality.” You interjected casually.
The soc clenched his jaw, shuffling in place slightly. “You’re gonna-”
“Pay for this, yeah sure I am...” You started skeptically. “Look, you should leave now and save yourself any further embarrasment because your pathetic attempts at intimidating me aren’t going to work. And I suggest you keep your mouth shut about that “pretty boy” because he is more of a man than you will ever be.” You added strongly.
“Man... forget this!” The soc hissed, spinning around angrily on his heels and marching out the door.
You watched the boy, making sure he actually left before you let your guard down. You turned around after a bit to be greeted with the sight of a slightly dumbfounded Steve.
“What?’ You asked humorously, chuckling after you spoke.
“Nothing.” Steve muttered casually, trying to seem cool and collected.
You definitely earn some bonus points from him that day...
~~~
Ponyboy was subjected to tangents upon tangents about you. He could tell Soda felt deeply for you. Hell, he thought anyone could see how much he loved you. But, something about the way he talked about you felt different... it was strange to him. Mostly because he couldn’t really pinpoint what was so different about you two, it was a mystery, an enigma of sorts. You two just meshed well; your differences never slighted your guy’s opinion on each other in the slightest. You two were understanding with each other, patient too... maybe it was that you treated Soda like, well, a human being. You were with him for more than his looks, and you always seemed to listen to whatever he would ramble about or find interesting to him. You didn’t slight him, or keep him confined in a box of nothing but vanity.
Eventually, Pony came to the conclusion that your relationship was fueled by a factor that was lacking in his previous relationships.
Respect...
~~~
Two-Bit could see the tell tale signs that Soda was in love from a mile away. His soft smiles and lovesick expressions, his more lively energy, and most notably... the almost longing looks he would make at any door, waiting for the moment where you’d come through. Soda was never subtle about his emotions, and the love he felt for somebody was no expectation of how open he was. Two-Bit would never pass up the opportunity to dog on him. He'd tease him any chance he got. But Soda usually never minded the light-hearted jabs that were thrown his way.
~~~ Johnny could just feel how much you admired one another. He was observant, and he was more keen on other people’s emotions than he really let on. You or him could do the littlest things and the other was bound to crack a smile. If he could describe the connection you two had, it would be bold, at points intense. Soda could be intense with his emotions at points, there was no denying that. But unlike others before, you didn’t really find that to be intimidating. You just accepted that that’s how Soda was. It wasn’t jarring or shocking; it was just... an aspect of your relationship. One that you didn’t shun away or try to deny.
If Johnny could find someway to describe the two of you, it would simply be one thing...
Genuine.
~~~
I know I’m rusty and this may not be the best lol. I gotta get back into the swing of writing things again.
Saviors
while walking home after dark, the gang comes to your rescue after a group of socs jump you. pairing: outsiders gang x f!reader wc: 1,537 warning(s): assault, blood, allusions of intent to SA
You had spent the majority of the afternoon at the library working on a project before you left in the evening. It was dark by the time you left, and while you knew better than to walk home by yourself, you didn’t want to inconvenience anyone by calling your parents or any of the guys in the gang.
So you start walking home, and in an attempt to give yourself some peace of mind, you grab your house keys and clutch them in your hand. You wished you carried a blade on you.
Your walk home was fine until you were only three blocks away from your house. That’s when you saw headlights shining from behind you, and you heard a car engine; a white corvair was soon in your periphery, and there were three boys inside, around your age if not a little older.
“Hey grease!” One shouts from the window, and you try your best to ignore them as they shout obscenities at you.
“Broad’s ignoring us. Look.” One comments as they pull up the car closer to the curb, and they steadily drive beside you.
“Hey! You’re too pretty to be with those greasers all day. Let me show you a good time, huh?”
You couldn’t help but feel panic as they continued to follow you. There really wasn't anywhere to run or hide. There was an alleyway nearby that led to a dead end.
When the car came to a stop, that’s when you started booking it. You take off in a full sprint and listen to the three pairs of footsteps rapidly approaching you from behind. One of the boys reaches out and grabs the top handle of your backpack and yanks on it, and the force sends you to the sidewalk on your back. It knocks the wind out of you and that’s when one of the boys pins you down to the pavement, and the other two stand above you with sinister grins on their lips. You were powerless under his weight, no matter how much you kicked.
“You know, we wouldn’t be here if you had just stopped to talk with us, hm? Now look where we are.” The brunette kneeling on you says, and his knees dig into your arms that were pinned to the sidewalk.
“Just let me go- please, I won’t tell anyone-” You stammer, and he shakes his head while making a tsk tsk sound.
“I think it’s too late for that now. It’s late and everyone’s in for the night, so there’s no one to bother us.” He says before he looks up at the other two, and without another word, the three of them begin to drag you into the nearby alleyway. You kick and scream, making any and all attempts to escape from their iron grasps.
“Shut up! Shut your trap!” The blond shouts as you’re pushed to the ground again, and it was his turn to taunt you while the brunette and redhead watched. He reaches behind him and pulls out a switchblade, flicking it open and holding it in front of your face.
“Now you be quiet. Or I’ll skin you right here.” He warns you while he puts his hand over your mouth, and by now your vision is blurry from the tears that were welling up in your eyes.
You came to realize that you were fully at their mercy. If one of them had a knife, the chances were good that they all did. They were bigger and stronger than you, and if you didn’t want to be left for dead on the sidewalk, you had to be careful. You knew what happened to Johnny.
“You know, it’s a shame when pretty girls like you hang out with greaser trash.” He says while he moves his knife down, trailing the tip of the blade down your chin and chest, and his smirk grows.
“A lot of greaser broads are skanks. You don’t seem like it though.” He comments, and as his knife moves closer to the belt on your jeans, your brain goes into fight or flight mode.
“Let me go!” You screech, and you kick your legs as hard as you can to try and free yourself. You land a kick to the blond’s leg, and he grunts in pain while the brunette reaches down and grabs your ponytail with one hand, and he lands a hard smack on your cheek with the other. Your cheek began to burn from the impact immediately, but that didn’t stop you from fighting your way out of their grasp. The redhead whips out a knife from the pocket of his letterman jacket and flips it open, and he grabs you by the neck and holds the blade up to your jaw.
“Please let me go- please-” You cry as he presses the cold metal into your skin, making a small slice into your jaw. You felt weak from fighting them and your throat was beginning to hurt.
Your attention was taken from them when you heard another voice shout from the other side of the street.
“Hey! Get your ass out of our side of town!”
It was Dallas. You’d honestly never been so glad to hear his voice.
“Shit- get outta here!” The brunette says quickly, and they pretty much drop you to the pavement while they scramble back to their car. You turn onto your side and curl up, but you hear multiple sets of footsteps shuffling around. The tires on the corvair screech as they peel away, and you’re relieved.
When you turn to look, you see Dally, Johnny, and Two-Bit approaching you.
“Holy shit- Y/N is that you? Are you okay?” Two-Bit says quickly as the three of them jog closer to you, and Dally stands nearby while Johnny and Two-Bit crouch beside you. One would think that he didn’t care, but you knew he did. He just didn’t show it like the others.
“I’m okay-” You say meekly, and Two-Bit tilts your chin up so you’re looking at him. The blood on the cut was beginning to clot, your cheek was still red, and your eyes were a little red from tears.
“They cut you?” Dally asks, and you nod slightly. Dally grunts under his breath.
“You’re okay kid. C’mon, let us get you to Darry’s place and clean you up, alright?” Two-Bit suggests. The Curtis house was closer than your own home, and it was a good idea to get cleaned up before you see your parents.
Two-Bit and Johnny help you up to your feet, and Two-Bit takes your backpack and slings it over his shoulder as the four of you begin to walk.
“Where were you so late, Y/N?” Johnny asks, and you sigh.
“I was at the library. I’ve got a history project due soon.” You explain, and he nods.
“You could have called any of us, kid. One of us could have picked you up or walked with you.” Two-Bit comments.
“I know, I just… I didn’t wanna put anyone out.” You mumble. “Where were you guys at?” You ask them, and Johnny rolls his eyes.
“Dally took us to the nightly double. We only got through one of the movies before we had to leave, thanks to Dal.” Johnny explains, and Two-Bit laughs. You didn’t even need an explanation to know that Dally probably stirred up some trouble, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Two-Bit helped him.
The four of you walk for a few minutes before you arrive at the Curtis’ house, and as soon as you walk in, you see Pony and Soda on the couch, and Darry was in his chair reading the newspaper. Once the three of them turn and see you, they get up from their seats quickly. Darry’s the first one to approach you.
“What the hell happened? Did you get jumped?” He asks, and you nod while you move over to the couch to sit down since Pony had motioned for you to move over.
“I was comin’ home from the library. They pulled over and grabbed me.” You mumble, and Soda disappears into the kitchen and comes back with a bag of frozen vegetables. He hands it to you and you silently thank him with a nod before you hold up the cold bag to your cheek.
“How deep is that cut?” Ponyboy asks, and you shrug while you reach up to touch it.
“Not very. It stopped bleeding pretty quick.” You explain, and Darry nods while he moves to sit back down in his chair while the others find places to sit. In a way, Darry saw you as his kid sister. You were a little older than Pony, and you became good friends with the boys quickly. Darry saw you as one of their own.
Dally stands beside the couch and against the wall, his hands stuffed in his pockets.
“Glad you’re okay, kid. Just call one of us if you’re alone like that again.” Dally says, and he reaches down to nudge the top of your head slightly. You couldn’t help but smile slightly at the gesture. Maybe he does show that he cares.
Tumblr media
You’d known Dallas Winston for a long time. Not your whole life but it felt like it. He was always a constant in your life. Your relationship was always a weird one with the Winston boy. You could joke all day long in the confines of the house but as soon as you left it he wanted nothing to do with you. Like he was embarrassed of you. Little did you know he was just trying to keep your squeaky-clean reputation intact. For you might’ve hung, lived with and been around greaser’s but you weren’t one really. You were a greaser by association. Dally always said you were far too kind, too pure for this lifestyle so he tried his hardest to keep you as far away as he could.
It wasn’t easy when you gave him those pleading looks outside the Curtis residence to just acknowledge your presence. He tried his best not to cave. Not even when all he wanted to do was laugh about something stupid Ponyboy or Sodapop did. But you couldn’t be seen with him out and about so casually. Then the Soc’s would start to target you. He didn’t know what he was quite capable of at the thought of somebody hurting you. As he got to know you and the Curtis after moving to Tulsa he swore he’d protect you day and night. He wouldn’t let a pretty little hair on your pretty little head get touched.
He'd decided early on when he met you, he was ten and you were eight, that he was going to get you tough. He was going to be hard on you, not too hard though. If you were going to grow up a greaser then you needed to know how to defend yourself. He spent the next eight years teaching you, training you, protecting you. He didn’t realize when it happened but slowly he stopped looking at you like a younger sister. Those protective feelings went far deeper than familial love. No, he actually loved you. He’d fallen in love with the one person he really shouldn’t have fallen for. Darry would skin him alive if he knew. Soda would beat him into oblivion. Pony would tell him how disappointed he was in some sort of poetic way that went over his head. He knew he just had to keep these growing feelings quiet. For your sake. You didn’t need to deal with him or his endless amounts of baggage. Even if he could see how attached you had grown to him too.
To say your relationship had grown confusing and chaotic over the years had been an understatement. Even Darry had picked up on some of the awkward tension that seemed to pop up out of nowhere when the two of you were left alone. Soda caught onto the longing gazes Dally would throw your way. He even caught you a few times doing the same to him. Pony wasn’t blind either. He was your very best friend and confidant. Whenever the conversation of Dallas Winston came up you shied away. Scared of letting something loose on accident. All the brothers knew there was something there they just didn’t know if and what would happen.
After your parents had died he’d been there for all of you but especially you. You’d taken it the hardest. Your mom was your favorite person and she just disappeared one day. You were lost and had to rely on teenage boys to guide you through it all. Your parents had nobody they could fall back on to take care of you. Thank goodness for Dally. He’d quite literally pulled you out of the depression you’d slipped into by just being there. Helping you. Asking for nothing in return. That’s when you fell in love. He’d shown you his true colors under the layers and layers to Dallas Winston. Under it all he was there for you and promised to never leave. And you knew he'd keep that promise, you just knew it.
Slowly the months ticked by and you’d gotten back to normal. Going out with friends and boys. Dallas watching you like a hawk whenever you went on dates with guys he knew were nothing compared to you. But he decided not to say a word and let you live your life. It was worth seeing the smile come back to life after seeing you so sad for too long. Seeing you happy was worth it all.
So, when Ponyboy asked you to accompany him on a Paul Newman special at the movie theatre you couldn’t refuse him. He was so excited about seeing the film you could hardly imagine saying no to him. You’d always enjoyed the movies too so it was hardly a tough sell on his part.
You couldn’t imagine a better way to spend a Saturday. Maybe if Dally was there to accompany you. But you couldn’t admit that. If you did then everything would change. Who knows what Darry would do to Dally. How Soda would treat him. This could get weird, and you hated weird. You’d rather keep it normal even if it meant having to keep him as a friend.
“Which one did you like better?” Pony asked once the two of you had left the theatre. He placed his hands in his pockets giving you a quizzical look. The two of you waked slowly along the cracking road that needed some serious repairs. Your head spun towards the street seeing a car full of Soc’s roll up chipping at Ponyboy about something, ignoring you completely. Even though you were over a year older than him Pony stood much taller than you. He pushed you behind his back as he yelled back at the boys. You tugged at the back of his shirt letting him know it was time to go. It wasn’t smart to get chippy with five of them in the car. They outnumbered the two of you and you were rather useless in a fight.
He grabbed your hand and pulled you across the street. After a moment of walking along the residential road you answered him, “The Hustler was far better Gidget Goes to Rome. Paul Newman really is a mastermind.”
He smirked bobbing his head in agreement, “Thought you’d say that.”
You feigned offense at that statement, “Am I that predictable Ponyboy Curtis?” You raised your eyebrows as you walked along the dirt path. The theatre wasn’t far from home thankfully. Maybe just over a mile. A twenty-minute walk or so.
“No. I just know you I guess dear sister.”
You smiled at your younger brother. Even since your parents had passed you’d taken on the nurturing role for him and even Soda more recently. Darry had none of it though. You’d grown close to your two brothers since their death’s. Darry kept his distance trying to do his best to raise you instead of letting you help him. He was trying to take on the role of your father without even asking if that’s the three of you wanted. But you didn’t dare question him.
You gave his hand a soft squeeze, “That you do Ponyboy. You know me better than anybody else.” You spotted a vehicle fast approaching from behind the two of you as you went in for a hug.
Your eyes widened seeing the same Mustang before barreling towards you, “We gotta run.” You grabbed his arm and started sprinting down the road. Pony was faster, so much faster than you, so he tried to drag you along only ending up tripping you in the process. They caught up in their Mustang an instant. He stood in front of you as you scrambled to your feet.
You gulped as the five boys got out of the car walking towards you, “Get out of here.” Pony tried to sound tough, but you heard the waver in your younger brothers voice.
One of them flipped a blade open. Your eyes shot wide open as you grabbed his shirt trying to tug him away. But they were faster as one of them tugged on your arm pulling you to the ground in front of Pony. You let out a scream trying to draw the greasers attention a few houses down. Hopefully they were hanging out outside like they usually were. Drinking beers or some shit.
“Darry! Soda!” You yelled as Pony as was taken down to the ground with you. He tried to let out a few calls for help but was muffled by something being shoved in his mouth.
“Shut her up.” One of them said, Randy maybe? You’d recognized him as the one with the redhead from school.
And before you knew it that same blade was placed right to your throat, “Pretty little things got a mouth on her huh? Maybe this’ll quite you down.” The overly-cologne scented Soc smirked as he pressed the blade across your throat drawing yet another yell right from you. He cut you. He really cut you.
Before you knew it they were running away. Your brothers and friends had heard you and Ponyboy yelling and came running right to your defense. It was only a little over a minute you were down on the ground, but that minute made you tremble. You’d never been so dominated like that in your life.
You looked down shocked at everything that had just happened. You’d felt the blood trickling down your neck more so than throbbing of the slice the Soc had given to you. Darry pulled you up from the ground, so you were sitting at eye level with his crouched form. After a moment of him holding the handkerchief up to your neck he finally spoke, “They didn’t hurt you too bad, did they?” His voice was low. He was pissed. You knew you were in trouble later on once everything had settled.
You shook your head afraid to look at your older brother, “No, I’m fine.” You whispered afraid of what he might say next.
Ponyboy made his way over to you, crouching down next to Darry, “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I didn’t…”
You stopped him, “It’s fine Pony. I’m okay really. Just a cut.” A small smile wavered over your face trying your best to reassure him.
Darry scoffed hating how you were playing this off so casually. Like his kid sister hadn’t gotten a knife pulled on her. Like you hadn’t gotten cut by that very same knife. It was every nightmare he had coming to light right in his backyard. At least the two of you had gotten that far before being attacked.
“Hey, Y/N.” Soda spoke after running up. His face dropped seeing the blood running down your neck, “Did they pull a blade on you?” He put his hands on your shoulders so he could get a better look.
Your face flushed with embarrassment seeing all of your brothers eyes right on you. Turning away you couldn’t take Soda’s intense gaze, “Yeah.”
He pulled your head back towards him, “Hey kid, they ain’t gonna hurt you no more. Come on.” Grabbing your hand, he hoisted you to your feet with ease. Darry gave you one last quick look before he grabbed Pony by the arm. You gulped knowing Darry was going to have it in for him. You needed to talk to your older brother about being so hard on Pony. It was just an accident after all. It wasn’t your fault the Paul Newman films kept the two of you in deep conversation not seeing the Mustang until it was too late.
Dally only interrupted you and Soda once Darry had pulled Pony ahead. He needed to make sure that his favorite Curtis sibling was okay. A minor wave of panic rang through his body seeing you pushed to the ground next to Pony with those boys had their filthy Soc hands on you. Rage washed over him as he kicked the side of the fancy car when they fled away from the scene.
Dallas’s eyes scanned over you with concern only stopping when he saw the trail of blood rolling down your neck, “What the hell is that? Did they cut you?” He took a step closer, grabbing at your face with a delicate touch. Almost as if he was afraid he’d hurt you further if he grasped on too tightly.
“Jesus, Curtis. What’d I tell you about defending yourself?” He gave your cheek a soft squeeze before dropping his hand. He spotted the already bloodied Handkerchief turned rag in Soda’s hand and held out his own to ask for it from your brother.
You looked down, “It was five on two Dally. What were we supposed to do?” You asked back earnestly wondering what the hell you were actually supposed to do. Run? Pony was faster and you’d only slow him down so that wasn’t an option. You’d already tripped trying to keep up with him. Try and fight? Well, you got a blade pulled on you so that wasn’t great either.
He bit his mouth trying his best not to snap at you. His adrenaline was high, and he was scared at the thought of you actually getting hurt, “I don’t know Y/N. Fight back? You were just lying there!”
You stopped walking abruptly, brushing Soda away knowing he didn’t need to hear the conversation about to go on between you and the hot-headed man beside you, “Can you go make sure Pony’s okay?” You asked him.
Soda gave you a curious look before finally handing Dally the handkerchief, “You sure?”
“Yeah, go ahead.” You gave him a quick push before turning back to Dally, “What is wrong with you?”
He stepped closer so your brothers couldn’t hear ahead of you, “What the hell is wrong with me? I’m just trying to keep you alive Curtis. I should be asking you the same! Why are you out walking alone with Pony this late on a Saturday anyway? You two know better. Those no good for nothing assholes only want to fight.” He grumbled before dabbing at the semi-dried blood on your chin.
You let out a huff of irritation. He was being so caring yet so damn frustrating, “What? I can’t go anywhere without a damn chaperone now? I’m confined to my brothers house? Is that how it’s going to be Dally? Pony isn’t enough now?” Your voice was snappy as you pushed and pushed and pushed him. He was already feeling on edge from the whole thing and your attitude was about to be his breaking point. There was nobody on this planet that could get under his skin like you could, nobody except for you. You’d found a way to weasel your way into his ice-cold heart and sink a burning ember into it. For Dallas Winston would do anything for you. But man, did you frustrate him to no end.
“Jesus, you know that’s not what I mean! Stop putting words into my mouth Curtis.” He put his hands up in the air in frustration, raising his voice just a tad. Darry turned back observing, making sure you were fine. He knew Dally would never hurt you. He could see the way the Winston boy looked at his younger sister. He wasn’t stupid. Dally had always been soft on you. Except he wasn’t. He pushed you harder than he pushed anyone. He wanted you to know how to defend yourself. With your hands, a knife, a pipe whatever. He was going to teach and push because he needed you alive. You were the only thing grounding him to this planet at the moment.
Your eyes narrowed on his, your voice raising as well, “Then what do you mean Dallas? Go ahead. Say exactly what you mean. I can take it.” You’d only used his full name when you felt like being patronizing.
He looked like he was contemplating everything before he turned back to you, “You need to be more careful!” He snapped. He didn’t raise a hand on you but instead yelled right at you stopping you in your tracks. Dally had never yelled at you before. Scolded sure. Disappointed yes. Angry, of course. But yelled? Never.
Your brothers must’ve seen the look in your eyes as they all stepped in. Darry pulled Dally away telling him to cool off. Soda grabbed your arm pulling you back towards the house. And Pony happily chatted away trying to take your mind off it.
“Dally’s just an asshole, you know that!” Pony’s final ditch effort to get you to smile came up miserably short.
You gave him a solemn nod, “Yeah, I know. Never to me though.” The sadness in your voice must’ve been evident because that had him quiet down the remainder of the short walk home. You brushed them all away telling them that you were ‘fine’ and going to take a nap.
They left you alone for a few hours but when you didn’t come out for dinner all three brothers grew worried. Soda knocked on your door lightly, “Hey kid. Supper’s getting cold. Darry made one of your favorites, spaghetti, and meatballs.”
It was sweet how much they cared on you when you were down, but damn was it suffocating sometimes. It was times like these when you wish you could run to your mom and ask her advice on it all. Boys were… boys and they often didn’t have a clue what ran through your head.
“I’m not hungry Soda. Maybe later, I’m working on homework.” You heard him sigh before walking away. You’d thought you would have gotten rid of them but another, much louder knock broke you away from the essay you were committed to finishing.
“Pony said you both skipped lunch to go to the movies. Come on down and get some dinner kiddo.” Darry’s much deeper voice spoke through the door. He tried twisting the knob but stopped when it wouldn’t budge. As much as he wanted to knock your door in he knew better. You weren’t like his brothers. No, you were so entirely different. He couldn’t treat you the same or you’d most likely find yourself a foster home instead.
“I had popcorn. I’m still full from that.” It wasn’t a lie. You weren’t hungry. You were uneasy and nervous. And wanted to finish the damn easy that you’d been staring at for the better part of three hours now.
“Alight kid, I’ll save you a plate.” He grumbled before beginning to walk away.
“Thanks Dar.” You hummed ignoring the lump forming at the back of your throat. You were so lucky to have your brothers who cared for you so deeply. You just wished they’d give you the space you needed.
And you thought they did before, yet another knock came to your bedroom door not thirty minutes later. With a huff you set the pencil down, “Go away Pony. I’m not in the mood.”
A laugh so distinct came from the other side of the door. That was certainly not Ponyboy, “Try again, sweetheart.” Dallas. Dallas freaking Winston. What had your brothers done?
Your palms began to sweat as your heartrate sped up rapidly, “What are you doing here?” It came out colder than you meant but Dally just found it amusing. He knew you couldn’t hurt a fly much less hurt him words. Albeit you might be the only person that could actually hurt him with words if you wanted to. Dally was soft for one person. You.
“I’m here for you.”
You sighed, “Go away. I’m not hungry. I don’t know who went and got you or called you or whatever. I’m not in the mood Dally.”
He put his head on your door knowing your mood was stemming from the argument earlier. He had snapped at you, and he felt bad. Especially after Darry of all people came knocking at his door pleading with him to come back to his place and talk to you.
His voice was low but he knew you could hear it, “You and I both know I’m not going away little Curtis. So, you can open that door and we can talk about it, or I can sit here all night waiting. Those are the options.” You heard his stubborn ass slide down the door. You knew they could most likely pick the lock or break down the door. But Darry wasn’t stupid. He knew it’d cause more harm than any good. You needed your safe space away from all the madness of being a greaser. A place you could lock yourself away from.
“Please,” Your voice cracked as fresh tears flowed down without you even noticing, “Just go away.”
You heard him click his tongue, “No can-do sweetheart. I gave you the options. Your turn to pick.” His voice was smug. Was he relishing in making you squirm? Neither was really an option. Both forced your hand. But then again this was Dallas. He got what he wanted.
You tried to turn back to your essay all you could think about was Dallas freaking Winston sitting on the opposite side of your door. You knew his stubborn ass wouldn’t leave either and that drove you nuts. You’d never be able to finish the essay or go to bed knowing he was sitting there just waiting on you.
With a heavy sigh you got up, walked towards the door, opened it without so much as a second thought and found him sitting right next to your door, “Go away.” You tried in your meanest voice, but it came out as a whisper.
He shook his head as he stood to his feet, “That’s not going to happen sweetheart.” He leaned against your doorframe pushing you back inside your room.
“Why can’t you guys just leave me alone for one night? One stupid night. That’s all I’m asking for!” You’d hardly ever raised your voice, but you were tired. Exhausted. Scared of the Soc’s that pulled a freaking knife out on you. Frightened because when you needed a helping hand all you got was a scolding voice.
“We’re worried about you is all. You got attacked. A knife pulled out on you…” He lowered his voice hoping it’d help settle down the rage he saw in your eyes. It was weird. Different. He was used to such a sweetness about you. He’d never seen you angry. Upset sure. But this was something entirely different.
Your eyes bugged, “You think I don’t know that? That maybe I just need some alone time away from all of this?” You didn’t hate being a greaser, no. That would never be the case. You loved your life with your brothers. You were just so damn tired of always being alert these days. Being a girl put you in a weird position with the greasers. The Soc’s never laid hands on you until today. It was startling. You’d always heard how dangerous the life was but today laid it out in front of you how truly dangerous it could be if you were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
He put his hands up in defense, “You need to calm down, Y/N.” His eyes shifted from one of a confident gaze to one that filled with concern
You wanted to slap him across his pretty little face, “You saying that is definitely not going to calm me down!” You were beyond frustrated now. You didn’t want to talk about it. You wanted him to leave you alone.
His eyes downturned as he saw your frigid stance. You were, for the first time he had recalled in his life, angry. Like angry, angry. Like you looked like you wanted to rip his head off angry, “Hey, I’m sorry. But I need you to relax a little. Sit down for me?” You were struck by his apology. Dallas Winston saying he’s sorry? You thought you’d so sooner be struck by lightning than hear those words come out of his mouth. The rage in your body calmed at that.
With an icy glare you sat down on your bed. You weren’t sure why you were listening to him. You were angry with him. He yelled at you when you needed sympathy. He’d scared you when you were already terrified. You thought the world of him, but that world came crashing down oh so quickly. You knew of the Dally he had hidden so well from you. Pony, Soda, and Darry would tell you stories all the time of how menacing he was. How he was so fearless in the face of it all. How could you not love on the man?
“Are you okay, Y/N?” He asked after shutting your bedroom door behind him. He knew your brothers were listening in, but it at least gave the illusion of a private conversation. Not that it mattered. They’d get the damn conversation out of one of the two of you eventually anyway. There was no privacy with the greasers.
“I’m fine.” You snapped at him, clearly not fine.
He shook his head giving you that damn chuckle that meant he knew you were lying, “I’m going with you’re not. You wanna tell me what’s the matter?” He asked once more. Stubborn.
“I want you to go away. That’s what I want.” The word weren’t as harsh this time. More like a soft rumble.
He sighed, “Come on Curtis. It’s just me. I know you and I know you’re not okay or fine or whatever word you wanna use. You can talk to me. It’ll be okay.” He grabbed for your hand that was nervously clutching the edge of your mattress giving it a comforting squeeze when his fingers locked with yours.
You felt the words coming on before you could stop them and soon you were rambling, “I’m overwhelmed Dally! I’m scared. I’m nervous. I don’t know if I’ll feel comfortable walking down the damned street anymore! And none of you will leave me alone to think about it!” You fired back exasperated. The building rage inside your eyes quieted down at the admission. You were terrified of what happened next. Everybody was always on edge these days. Life went from easy to hard in what felt like a night after your parents had left.
He opened his arms up, “Alright, come on. Come here pretty girl.” It didn’t take him much effort to pull you right into his embrace. In another instance you’d probably have fought him, but you were terrified and exhausted and his warm embrace was everything you needed. He pulled you closer before resting his head on yours, “It’s okay to be scared.” He whispered knowing that your nosey as hell brothers were likely sticking their ears to your door.
You closed your eyes letting the scent of his cologne mixed with the long day wash over you. So much more refreshing than the scent that washed over you earlier. Dally was always your comfort. No matter how harsh a day or words that were spat you knew you could count on him. No matter how mean you were to him either, “You yelled at me.” You felt another wave of tears come on. God, you felt so pathetic in his arms crying about being yelled at. Some greaser you were.
“I know.” He sighed giving you another reassuring squeeze, “You scared me. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I just let out my frustration out on you. I shouldn’t have done that. I should’ve been there to protect you.” He sounded a bit angrier not that he was getting it off his chest.
You pulled your head back gaping at his with a confused expression, “Is Dallas Winston apologizing?”
He gave you that soft smirk that you’d come to love, “If you tell someone I did, I’ll deny it.” He brushed the stray tears away with his thumb, “I don’t like it when you cry.”
You laid your head back down on his chest, “Don’t make me cry then.” Quipping back, you knew that wasn’t entirely fair. He wasn’t the sole reason you were in tears. But he was the reason you were crying then.
He leaned down whispering in your ear, “I’m sorry. Don’t cry. Please don’t cry. I can’t promise I’ll be perfect. You know I’m a fuck up. But I’ll try. I’ll always try for you.” There was no chance your brothers could hear him for you hardly could. Or maybe that was the rough pounding in your ears. He wanted it to stay between the two of you. He knew Darry would flip if he tried to make a pass at his sister. So, he’d keep his distance from you, for now. But he couldn’t promise to restrain himself if you made advances on him, he’d fold in an instant if you did.
“I believe you.” You fisted his shirt in your hands, grasping onto him. This certainly wasn’t what friends did. But it felt right to cling onto him. To mold into his touch and his embrace. Dally felt so incredibly meant for you the thought of not being with him hurt you.
He held onto you for just a bit longer before pulling back, “It’ll be okay. We’ll figure it out. You’ve got me. Your brothers. All those friends. You’ll be just fine.”
You gave him a quick nod brushing the fogginess out of your eyes, “Thank you Dally.”
“Always. Now come on, let’s go eat before Darry force feeds you.” He stood, unwrapping himself from you, holding his hand out for you to take.
“Darry would, wouldn’t he?” You smiled taking his hand in yours happily.
He gave you that look, “Let’s not find out.” Before pulling you out the door. To nobody’s surprise were all three Curtis brothers not even subtly eavesdropping in on the conversation right outside your door.
“All of you. Unbelievable.” Your laugh let them know they’d called just the right person to brighten your spirits. Darry knew it was only a matter of time before you realized that he was your person. The thought terrified him. The older you got the closer the two of you grew. But time and time again Dallas had shown Darry just how much he loved you too. His actions and his words showed just how much he actually did care for you.
The Funnies (Darry x Reader)
A very very very short blurb of a Darry x Reader. So sorry it’s so short!!!!
Darry sat down heavily in his chair. Grabbing the newspaper Soda brought home, Darry shifted through it before grabbing the funnies, setting them aside, returning to the front, and starting to read. Pony looked at him oddly. Darry glanced up and deadpanned, “what?”
“Why did you just do that with the comics?” Pony asked.
“Y/n likes to read them.” Darry said simply. Speaking of the devil, Darry’s girlfriend, Y/n, walked in the door. “Hey, darling,” Darry said.
“Hey Superman.” Y/n walked over and hugged him tightly.
Darry kissed her softly before holding up the funnies. “Look what Soda got you.”
“He did?!” Y/n’s Dave lit up and grabbed the pages of comics. “Thanks Soda!”
“Huh?” Soda looked up from the table, mouth full of food. After no reply, he went back to eating.
“Come here,” Darry gestured to his lap, opening his arms up. Y/n curled up on his lap, snuggling into him. She opened the funnies and started reading.
Darry, who was supposed to be reading his paper, only had eyes for his girl, who kept laughing or giggling at certain comic strips then pointing to them and showing Darry. Darry would nod, reading the comic, before pressing a kiss to her hair.
His paper wouldn’t get read, but his love for Y/n would only grow.
𝐒𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐩
when Soda hears you scream "oh my, it's huge!" Darry gives him a weird look but laughs it off
he immediately rushes into his room to see what was happening
he sees you standing on top of the bed, terrified
he doesn't understand at first and jokes about it
but then sees that you are very overwhelmed and tries to comfort you
when he takes off his shoe you beg him to let it run away or take it outside
he giggles and tries to catch it and you kind of forget your fear for a moment
he's so gentle with it just like with any other creature when he finally catches it with a towel
you watch him let it go and then ask him to wash his hands
Soda rolls his eyes but goes
when he comes back you pull him into a tight hug
you both fall on top of the bed and Soda mocks you, saying "if it was huge, I must be giant"
you roll your eyes at him and he pulls you into a passionate kiss
𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲
you were hanging Curtis’ clothes outside to dry because it was a summer evening
Darry was tired from his shift so he was smoking a cigarette on the porch
suddenly you scream as you see a huge black spot on the white t-shirt
Darry rushes to come and help you out but you both get stuck in the wet bedsheet that you just hung up
both of you fell on the floor laughing about it
but now you have to wash it again
and then you see the spider crawling on Darry's hair
you scream again but can't get up
Darry can't stop laughing at you
he gently takes the spider WITH HIS BARE HANDS and throws it far away
when you both get up he spins you around, still happy about what has happened
you apologize for falling down and wrecking the clothes
he kisses you on your forehead saying it was okay and he actually had fun
𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞
you were driving with him, headed home
he was talking to you about his promotion when all of a sudden you saw a spider
Steve is very pissed at you for making his heart stop
you understand in a way because you were on the road
but he gets it too, he knows you hate them
he pulls up to a random house and tries to catch it, but you can't be emotionally there because you feel trapped
when he finally gets it out of the car he comes over to you to give you a hug
you cry into his shoulder because you got very emotional and scared
even if Steve is very tired from his shift and also dirty he pulls you into a hug
he tells you that it's okay
he reminds you that it was harmless but knows you won't ever listen
you thank him for being there for you
but you still can't forget about it when you get inside
Steve turns on the radio and you dance together
you are so happy to be with him and he's soooo happy too! aw
𝐃𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲
you almost faint when you see a spider in Dally’s bathroom
there was a huge party at Buck's so Dally is waiting for you in his room, making sure nobody would storm inside
when he hears you scream he straight away pulls out his g*n
you ran out of the bathroom half naked yelling about a spider
you ask him if he was really about to use it on a freaking spider and you laugh so hard
but Dally is not in a mood so he is really about to show you that he's capable of doing it
but lets go of that idea as soon as he realizes that you are half naked
he kind of wants to make out
but you tell him that he has to get rid of it immediately
as he tries to catch it you are even more terrified
Dallas is mocking you when he catches it with a cup
you ask him if he's going to let it escape but he says no
you get mad at him and go to bed
he knows you are watching him slowly open the window and let the spider go
he rolls his eyes when he sees you giggling
"now you owe me" he says, taking your hand to go and shower together ;)
𝐏𝐨𝐧𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐲
when you call Ponyboy to rescue you he is so freaking nervous but tries to hide it
you saw it crawling near his books
when you tell him where you saw it, he panics even more
you jump on the bed, waiting for your hero to do something
he wants to laugh it off but can't
Pony is too scared to ruin one of his books so he lifts each one carefully trying to spot your enemy
Pony could never kill a spider
so when he finds it he slides it on a piece of paper and goes to throw it outside the window
you give him a peck on his cheek making him blush
he gets sooooo shy but also proud of himself
you go and lie down together on the bed
you know he was scared too but chose not to say anything about it
he is acting all heroic and you secretly love it
(yes he will check if anything happened to his books when you leave)
𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧𝐧𝐲
Johnny hates spiders
but he loves you more (duh)
so when he hears you scream in your room, he rushes back from the kitchen to help you
neither of you can spot it any longer, so you both fall asleep
Johnny is there to comfort you during the night
he tells you that it probably went away
but in the morning when you go to the bathroom you see a giant spider in the corner of the wall
you scream again and run back to your room
this time Johnny takes a deep breath in and takes your slipper
but you tell him that you want it to live
it creates an even bigger challenge because Johnny could never touch it
both of you sit on the bed and talk about your fears
you both decide to do it together
he grabs a piece of paper and you bring a cup
in the end you succeed and let the spider go outside
you are very proud of yourselves for doing something so brave
Johnny is so grateful to have you as a partner
𝐓𝐰𝐨-𝐁𝐢𝐭
he actually loves spiders and insects and you know it
so when you see a spider in the living room of Curtis' house you run to the kitchen to find him
he was eating cake
he didn't care at first but then was intrigued
he started asking you all sorts of questions like how big and what species it was
you roll your eyes and he laughs
but he knows you despise them so he actually lets go of his cake (wow) and runs into the living room
he makes a joke about the spider wanting to watch Mickey with them
you can't help but laugh too (come on its funny)
Two-Bit gently grabs it and even tries to touch it
you're so disgusted that you leave the room
when he comes back he makes a sad face saying that you're too scared of them
then he jokes that if you want to build the future together you must accept his love for spiders
you playfully slap him saying it will never happen
you both chill on the couch while Two-Bit is busily thinking about naming that spider
then he wants to prank one of his friends (Pony ofc) with it but you talk him out of it (thankfully)
you gently kiss his lips, forever grateful to have someone like him by your side whenever you feel scared.
i just wanna say i love your writing it's masterful
could you do a sleepy/cuddles Sodapop x fem!reader for my poor lonely soul please and thank you<3
“You work too much.”
Pairing: Sodapop Curtis x fem! Reader
Summary: To support yourself, you work multiple jobs. Your boyfriend starts to notice the toll this takes on you.
Warnings: Overworking, established relationship
A/N: Thank you so much for your kind words!! I’m so sorry this took me fucking forever, it got lost in my drafts but I found it!! I will never take this long
The phone rang as you hid away from the loud noise of the diner, tucked away in the corner. You had just worked a triple shift to be able to afford your rent this month, which you stupidly had put off for the last week.
“Hello?” A voice came through the line. Presumably Darry.
“Hey Darry, it’s Y/n. Is Soda there?” You said, being polite.
“Yeah I’ll get ‘im for you.” There was a pause. You twirled the cord around your finger, beginning to become anxious.
“Hey, Y/n. Everything okay?” Sodas voice said, softly.
“Yeah, I’m just tired and had a long day. Do you think you could pick me up? If not I totally get it-“
“Hey, it’s fine. I’ll be there in like 7 minutes.” He interrupted your nervous rant.
You let out a sigh of relief.
“Okay. Thank you so much.” You responded.
“Anything for my girl.” He said. You could picture his smile in your head.
“I love you, Soda.” You said, grateful for his presence in your life.
“Love you too, sweets.”
You put the phone back on the holder, and went to wait outside. It was a cold winter night, one you wished you could’ve enjoyed at home.
You left your home about 2 years ago when they weren’t supportive of you going to school. You had grew up in a strict household that unfortunately believed that women were worth less than men. Your family never took school seriously, and wanted to pull you out once you were 14. They believed that at that age, you were expected to start helping around the house, and start looking for a man to marry. But, over the years you really enjoyed school and wanted to pursue a life in academia. When you told your parents this, they kicked you out.
You moved a few towns over to Tulsa. You originally lived at Bucks, where you met Dallas. He wasn’t the nicest to you, but he eventually warmed up to you and even introduced you to the gang, where you met Soda. These boys seemed to understand your struggle of living alone and going to school. You finally felt like you had a group of people to support you, which you had never experienced before.
Suddenly you saw an old beat up car pull up, and a honk broke the sound of the crickets at night.
You hopped in the front seat, looking over to your boyfriend, who held a worried look.
“Hey sweets.” He said, grabbing your hand and kissing it.
“Hi.” You said, barely having enough energy to talk.
Sodapop took the message, and started to drive home. A comfortable silence wafted over to two of you as he drove back to his place. There was an unsaid agreement that you would be staying with him tonight.
On the way home, you fell asleep, lulled by the soft music playing and sodas humming.
Once you got to Sodas house, he woke you up, by picking you up bridal style and carrying you in.
Soda stepped in the doorway, to be greeted by Darry and Pony.
Darry looked up, “Hey, is she okay?” He questioned, worried for his brothers girlfriend. He really had grown attached to you, and was worried about you. He knew what it was like to have to work multiple jobs and take care of others.
Soda responded, “Yeah, she just needs to rest. Can she stay over tonight?”
“Of course, she can stay here whenever.” Darry responded, seeing you stir and start to wake up.
You woke up, at adjusted your eyes to peer upon Sodas chin, turned towards Darry.
“Hey, Thanks for letting me stay Dar.” You sleepily smiled, a blush on your cheeks from having Darry see Sodapop carrying you in.
“It’s always fine honey, you know that.” He walked back into the kitchen, leaving you and Soda alone.
He silently walked to his room, sitting you on his bed. He kneeled down onto one knee, taking your shoes off carefully. He stood back up, cupping your chin in his hand, and kissing your forehead.
“Do you want to change into something more comfortable?” He asked, making sure you were okay with it.
“Yeah.” You simply replied, causing him to get up and open his drawers, picking out a clean shirt for you to wear to bed.
He handed you the clothing, and you went to the bathroom to change.
“Jesus christ I’m tired.” you exclaimed, looking at your reflection in the mirror; noticing the dark circles acting as a shadow on your face.
You quickly changed, walking back to Sodas room. You were excited to finally get some rest. Tomorrow you weren't working, and school was out for the day. Finally a day to just relax.
As soon as you walked in, Soda took you into an embrace. You quickly melted in his arms, finally feeling like you could let go.
“Do you wanna go to bed?” He whispered.
You nodded into his chest, feeling him pick you up and place you on his bed. You got underneath the covers feeling at peace. You felt the bed dip beside you, and felt Sodas two arms pull you in, letting your head rest on his chest.
You didn’t really feel like talking, so you just held him tighter and kissed his exposed collarbone; a sign of your gratification. He dipped his head down, pulling you head up by his hand on your chin and kissed your lips softly, but filled with love.
“You work too much.” He whispered against you lips, kissing them quickly once again, “Maybe you should just live with us. You wouldn’t have to worry about rent and could focus on school.”
You looked up at him, ready to argue against his kindness, but decided against it. You were lucky you had this kind of support system.
“Thank you.” You whispered, kissing his jawline quickly, settling your head into his neck.
“I love you sweets.” He said as he rested his head back into the pillows.
“I love you too.” You responded back, in an instant.
You smiled, and rested your head against his chest again. He was so warm. Perfect for this cold winter night, and although you weren’t able to spend the whole night with him, you were forever grateful for these small moments before the both of you drift into sleep.
IM DYING LITTLE ONESHOT OF A DARRY X MOTHERLY!READER 🙏🙏
OKOKOK this is so cute!!!!! i haven’t rly read a lot of darry fics so im going off what i personally think but i hope u enjoy anyway <3 also im literally writing this in my school bathroom😓sorry it’s long!!
── •✧• ──
✧.* then he kissed me
darry curtis x motherly!reader
cw: gn!reader, motherly!reader, reader being called ‘honey’, idk?????
── •✧• ──
darry had worked late that night, and had called upon you to watch the two idiots that he calls his brothers, sodapop and ponyboy.
it was half past midnight, and darry had just come home. he expected you to be fast asleep by now, most likely tired from watching his family. but you weren’t. you were awake on the couch reading your book, waiting up for him. you knew he’d be home late - of course you knew that, he always is, but you missed your boyfriend and wanted to see him.
darry see’s you, and this boy could melt, he’s so happy you stayed awake for him. you instantly get up and hug him, and he smiles and hugs you back.
“honey, what are you doing still up?” his voice is a whisper, careful to not wake his brothers.
“i just wanted to see you.” you reply, before breaking the hug. “you’re also later than you said you’d be, and i got worried. you should probably get to sleep, it’s a busy day tomorrow.”
he smiled. “y/n, you don’t need to worry. i’m just going to stay up a few minutes longer to get ready for tomorrow morning.”
“oh- you don’t need to worry about that. i’ve already packed ponyboy’s lunch for school, and ironed sodapop’s DX uniform. i also made chocolate cake for breakfast in the morning. i know it’s probably not very good compared to yours, but i figured it was worth the effort, anyway.”
he stares at you, in awe. “wow. that’s very kind of you, y/n.”
truthfully, he’s not used to this treatment. he’s always been the one having to stay up late, caring for others, and not having a moment of rest. he doesn’t know how to react. he’s truly in shock.
you quickly continue your rambling. “anyway, sodapop is out with steve, he’ll probably be home soon. and ponyboy is asleep upstairs, and johnny got cold and asked to come stay here for the night, so of course i said yes. poor boy.” you sigh, and then continue. “and dally also wanted to sleep over, but i know how you feel about him sleeping over after the ‘incident’, so i kicked him out. he’s probably snuck through pony’s window upstairs, though. do you want me to check? I don’t know if dally is worth the trouble, but i already told him no, and i think it’d be worth it-“
your rambling was quickly interrupted with a kiss from darry. he’s never had someone as sweet as you, helping him care for the boys. after his parents passed, all the pressure was on him. but now you’re here. and for him to find someone as caring and motherly as you, and for him to find someone that cares just as much as his family as him, probably makes him the luckiest man in the world.
——
A/N : im so sorry i genuinely don’t know much abt how darry acts in a relationship and i don’t know how to write motherly readers soooo i hope this met ur expectations at least a little bit😓thank u for the request!!
Fourth of July ☆ Johnny Cade
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Tumblr media
I was laying on my bed, like I usually did. My parents didn’t care, as long as I wasn’t bothering them they couldn’t give a damn about me. Being a Socs isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Yea, you might get mustangs and wear nice clothes, but no one actually cares about you. All my friends suck, the only thing they do is talk about each other when their not around. So I ended up becoming friend with a lot of the greasers on the east side. They’re some of the tuffest people I know, and they’re real. After a while of hanging out with them, there was one who always stood out to me. Johnny Cade. He’s such a sweet boy, and he’s handsome too. Too bad his parents treat him the way they do, he dosent deserve it. While I was deep in thought, I heard a knock on my window. I slowly got up from my bed and tried to figure out what the sound had come from when I see dally sitting on my roof. Annoyed, I walk over and open my window.
“Dallas what are you doing here? If my parents see you you’re dead!” I say in a whisper yell.
“Relax, I just came to ask you if you wanted to come watch the fireworks with me and the gang” he replied.
I had completely forgotten it was the Fourth of July.
“Sure I’d like to come, just let me change real quick” I say before closing my curtains and quickly running to my bathroom to change. I wanted to look nice, especially because I knew Johnny would be there. I quickly did my makeup and went back to my room.
“I’m ready” I say as dally moves aside.
I quickly climb out of my window and run out to his car. He sat in the divers seat, I sat in the passengers.
“So, Y/N, you got a boyfriend?” Dally suddenly asks me.
“No, not at the moment, why?” I reply confused.
“No reason, so if you don’t have a boyfriend then you got your eye on anyone?” He adds.
My face flushed red from embarrassment, luckily it was too dark to notice.
“Uhm maybe..I don’t know” I say looking away.
“Awe cmon don’t lie to me” he replies jokingly
“Ok fine” I swallow
“I like Johnny”
“Ooooo” he teases.
“Oh shut your trap Dally” I joked.
“Why’d you wanna know who I liked?” I asked him.
“No reason, just outa curiosity”
I shrugged and watched as we drove through the city. Soon we arrived at the drive-in, and dally took me over to where the gang was sitting.
“Hey guys!” I said running towards them.
“Hey Y/N! have a seat the fireworks are starting soon”. soda replied.
I looked around for a place to sit and the only seat open was one next to Johnny. I walked over and sat down next to him, which make him jump a little.
“Hey Johnny” I asked him.
“Oh hey Y/N” he replies, relieved.
“So how’ve you been?” I add.
“I’ve been pretty decent..how about you?” He replied.
“I’ve been pretty decent as well, just wish my parents would pay attention to me for once” I said.
“Yea i get what you mean, parents suck” he adds.
A few moments later a firework sets off and Johnny suddenly jumps at the loud noise.
“Are you ok?” I ask him
“Yea im fine Y/N don’t worry about me” he adds before another firework sets off.
“Are you sure?” I add.
“I’m sure” he adds.
A few minutes go by and Johnny has his head between his arms and I can’t take it anymore.
“Johnny get up we’re getting out of here” I whisper to him
“What no Y/N I’m fine” he replied as I pulled him up out of his seat.
I grabbed onto his arm and ran with him until we reached the lot. It was much quieter, and you could barely hear the fireworks. We sat down under a tree and watched from there.
“I’m sorry for takin you from the fireworks Y/N” he apologizes.
“What no Johnny you didn’t do anything, I just didn’t want you to have to sit through that” I reply.
A few seconds of silence went by before Johnny says “Your really great Y/N, y’a know that?”.
My face flushes red as I turn to look at him.
“You really think so?” I reply.
“I know so” Johnny says
He then leaned in and kissed me. I quickly melted into the kiss and slowly wrapped my arms around his neck. A few moments later Johnny pulls away, face beet red.
“I-I’m sorry was that too soon?” He asks in a shaky voice.
“Not at all” I say smiling.
“I-I’ve wanted to ask you this for a while now, but I haven’t had the guts to. But would you wanna be my girl?” He asks, looking down at the ground.
“Of course Johnny, id love to” I say before wrapping my arms around him.
“I love you Y/N”
“I love you too Johnny”
Early mornings- Stevepop shot
It was early. The sun hadn’t even begun to creep above the skyline yet. And still Steve knew he’d have to leave soon. If anyone caught him leaving Sodapops bedroom at this hour then there’d be questions neither boy were ready to answer.
But Sodas lip was poured in that cute way and his hair was splayed across the pillow like a crown and he was oh so warm. And the longer Steve stayed the less he wanted to leave.
Soda was nuzzling into him in that way that let Steve know he was going to wake up soon, and that somehow made it worse. Steve didn’t feel nearly as bad when he could just sneak away before Soda even thought about waking up. But when Soda was all snuggly and pleading with him to stay.
“It’s ok Steve no one’s even awake yet.”
Or kissing at Steve’s neck in that way that makes him feel so in love. Times like that make him feel so heartbroken when he has to pull away and sneak back out Sodas window. Time like that make him long for the unjust ways of the world to be overturned. Make him long for a world where he and Soda can lounge around together for as long as they want.
Johnny x gen! reader
Those Nights I Used to Know
I miss those hot summer nights where we would lay out on my front porch. Drinking sweet tea and listening to the cars roll by. The sweet smell of the humid air, and Johnnys signature musk.
I long to have the cold autumn evenings back. The ones when he’d put his jacket around my shoulders, and walk me down the street back to my house after school. The same nights we’d smoke together in the nice breezy weather.
Now I can only imagine how we’d go to the dingo together in the spring and joke and laugh. Oh how we’d laugh and carry on, and when we were done we’d lay out in the lot. Him, putting his jacket over me as I fell asleep on his shoulder.
The nostalgia makes me cry. Cry like how I had when I’d heard the news. Cry like I did that night at the dinner table where my parents asked me what’s wrong and I didn’t answer. Cry like I had when I sat and smoked on my front porch, a glass of sweet tea in hand.
I remember how he had told me he loved me one night in the summer…
His hand had made its way subconsciously over to mine. His usually sweaty hands were now dry and calm, the shaky nature of him had subsided.
“Y/n…” he said, looking at me with his dark brown, almost black eyes.
“Yes?” I replied, feeling slightly anxious at what he was about to say.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” his fingers intertwined with mine. I watched our hands silently, meaning for him to go on. He took a drag of his kools and sniffed it out on the concrete beneath our feet.
“I like you, no…” he paused, a look of confusion washed over his features as he studied my face.
“No…what?” I asked, also confused as to why he said that.
“I think I love you.” His words rang in my ears.
‘I think I love you’ ‘I think love you’.
I was frozen, I’d never heard anything like this come from him, Johnny.
He continued, “I don’t know much about love but…I know it’s what I’m feelin right now and-”
“Johnny I love you too” I quickly cut him off and placed a hand to his shoulder. The feeling of his warm skin touching mine had given me a rush. We were only teenagers but…I knew this would last forever.
But I was wrong…
The Outsider From Opulence Chapter 27: Sodapop Curtis x OC
Tumblr media
Chapter 27: The Story That Sank Into Midnight
~~~
POV: Elliot’s
I didn’t like how quiet it had been downstairs. Usually, I would’ve heard my father’s bustling voice during his and mom’s “conversations.” But today, I was met with mostly silence. I could hear the occasional word, but, by the time it traveled up to me. They were nothing more than a feeble whisper that had already dissipated.
I didn’t really know when their conversation started or when it ended. I figured I should stay up here. They needed to be alone anyway, and I’m sure even the sight of me right now would set my dad off. So, I opted to stay in my room for the remainder of the day. Their conversation never escalated into yelling, so I took that as a good sign.
The sun had set hours ago and despite the multiple attempts I made to sleep. they failed each time. I felt like I was jumping out of my skin, like I had weeks worth of energy bursting at the seams. Or like I had drunk too much coffee and I felt as though the caffeine was wiring me awake. So, I resorted to one of the only things that kept me busy, homework. Cherry was “kind” enough to collect all the work I had missed over the past 3 days. As nice as her effort was, I well, didn’t really want to do any of it.
I tossed my pencil somewhere on my messy desk. I starred down at the messily written homework I had finished. Usually after a long bout of homework I would feel some sort of sleepiness by now. But still, I felt wide awake... maybe I could clean my-
Suddenly, a ringing echoed in the room. I turned my head, slowly staring at the device in confusion. Who would be calling me this late at night?
“Hello?” I greet questioningly.
“Hey Elliot.” a familiar, excited voice greeted me quietly. “I-I’m not callin’ you too late am I?”
I looked sourly over at the small alarm clock sitting near my bed. It mocked me as it read 2:40 AM at me.
“No, you’re fine Soda. I can’t sleep even if I tried.” I start with an annoyed roll of my eyes. “Wait, how did you even get my number? I’m not complaining that you’re calling but... I’m positive I didn’t give it to you.” I add in confusion.
“Cherry.” Soda answered nonchalantly.
I scoffed before toying with my phone cord. “Of course she did.” I speak humorously. “So, is there a specific reason why you’re calling me at almost three in the morning?”
“I just wanted to talk to you.” he replied innocently.
“That’s sweet... now I know you want something though.” I joke.
I heard him sigh over the line. His usual laugh followed suit. “Alright you caught me. I just wanted to see how you were doing.”
“Things are as good as they can be I guess.” I mutter, pulling at the phone cord slightly. I cleared my throat, the yelling I had done from before now showcasing its after effects.
“Oh,” is all he said at first.
I could imagine the careful expression he had on his face. I was sure he was thinking of what else to say.
“So... how did things go with Darry?”
Ah, now I know what’s going on.
“Things were fine. I mean, I’m sure we’re not going to be best friends now. But he doesn’t want to beat me senseless anymore.” I spoke with a bright tone.
Soda laughed quietly before replying. “That’s good. What’d he say?” Soda questioned.
“Nothing much.” I start nonchalantly. “He just told me why he was so... apprehensive about us before.”
“Oh, so he told you about Henry then huh?” Soda replied casually.
I sputtered at his question. His bluntness throwing me for a loop.
I face palm before huffing out a breath. “I-I’m going to assume you know too?”
“Yeah, he told us after we got back home.” Soda spoke with slight tension. “I couldn’t believe it, he was giving us all that flack when he had somethin’ goin’ on himself.” He added with a scoff.
“I thought the same thing at first too. But, I think things were a little more complicated for him.” I explain, my eyes suddenly finding themselves gazing out the window. “The amount of pressure the two of them were under. I don’t know... I guess he just didn’t want you to go through anything like that.”
“Pressure?” Soda questioned. “What are you talkin’ about. He told me Henry didn’t feel the same way as he did.”
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. For a brief moment, I didn’t know what to say. I sat there, probably looking like a fish out of water.
“That’s not what he told me.”

Flashback
POV: Soda’s
“Dar, what you felt with Henry isn’t exactly much of a surprise to me.” Pony spoke up bluntly.
Darry looked over at him. His usual cool demeanor melted away to nothing more than a shocked mess.
“You were like... 10 Pone.” He replied messily.
“I still had a brain, I still had observational skills.” Pone rebutted with a roll of his eyes.
“Shoot, even I knew somethin’ was goin’ on.” I mumble.
“How did you-”
“You’d never shut up about him sometimes.” Pony interjected humorously.
“Did you ever tell him you-” Pony started.
“Yeah, I did.” Darry replied curtly.
“Things didn’t go to well did they?” Pony asked carefully.
“No.” He answered simply, his face now returning to the stone-cold look he’d usually sport.
We stewed in the “revelation” Darry had told us. In those few brief moments of silence. A sudden revelation of my own ran wild in my mind.
“Wait a second!” I speak suddenly, shooting up from the couch, “So, you’ve been givin’ me hell for the past week for something that you’ve felt yourself?” I ask tensely.
“I’m not sayin’ all of this stuff to excuse what I did.” Darry replied. “All I was doin’ was tellin’ you where my head was at.”
“Th-that doesn't make it okay though. That doesn't simmer down how pissed off I am at you." I explain.
"I don't think he said it to make it okay though Soda." Pony said carefully.
"I find that hard to believe." I say skeptically.
"I knew you wouldn't get it." Darry muttered, rising up from the arm chair he was usually sat in.
"Wouldn't get what?"
"Darry just shook his head. Walking back to his room.
"Just forget about it." He sighed out before closing the door.
End of flashback
~~~ POV: Elliot’s
“I get where he’s coming from.” I spoke understandingly.
I heard Soda sigh. I could imagine the frustrated or annoyed look on his face. “What is everyone else gettin’ that I’m not?”
“Soda, if he really was gushing and talking about this guy any chance he got. Who does that remind you of?” I ask humorously.
“I... I don’t know.” He sputtered.
“Sure you don’t.” I start teasingly. “He sounds exactly how you were acting with me. And don’t try to deny anything. Your brother and friends already told me about all that.” I added with a laugh.
“Okay,” he starts with a bit of bashful. “Maybe, I do talk about you alot. But, I don’t get how that has anything to do with us.”
“Put yourself in his shoes. How would you feel if I told you I didn’t feel the same way as you did?” I inquire.
The line was filled with dead air for a brief moment. “It would really sting.” He finally replied. “But you didn’t end up doing that to me.” He added.
“Well, the rejection wasn’t the only thing that happened. He had his parents, other friends, his coach breathing down his and Henry’s backs for who knows how long. That’s a lot of pressure for even the strongest of people.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Soda replied quietly.
“Even if he might not have realized he was doing the samething to us that was done to him. I do think his heart was in the right place.” I muttered. “But, that doesn’t mean you have to excuse anything he did. He just wanted you to understand where he was coming from. You don’t have to agree with it, you just needed more of an understanding of it.”
“I’m never going to agree with what he did.” Soda spoke with a dry laugh. “But, I can try and understand him a bit more.”
“Good, I don’t think he was meaning to be cruel. He was probably just scared of what might happen to you. And being scared can make you do some pretty outlandish things.” I explain.
I heard Soda sigh again before he grumbled out, “I’m going to have to talk things out with him again aren’t I?”
“Uh huh.” I reply teasingly. A yawn followed my sentence. I stifled it the best way I could.
“I’ll let you go now Elliot, don’t think I didn’t hear that yawn.” Soda spoke humorously.
A small laugh fell from my mouth before I could reply. “Alright, night Soda. Next time you talk to Darry be a bit more open and a lot less angry. Okay?”
“I’ll try, goodnight.” And with that, the line went dead.
I let out a breath before putting the phone back onto the receiver. I got from my desk, going back over to my bed. As I attempted to go back to sleep, I thought more about the whole situation with Darry.
If things had made sense before, they really became clear now.
Ever since your parents had passed those months ago you’d felt like you were drifting further and further into invisibility in your own home. It was never easy being the second middle child, right between the dazzling Sodapop and the book smart Ponyboy. You were kind of always just there. You’d made up for you lack of being special in anything by being kinder than anybody around you. There was always a smile on your face no matter the occasion. It took the passing of the most important people in your life to dim it.
But you had to put on a show for your brothers. They were already going through so much on their own. Darry had to step up and become a father in a matter of moments for his grieving siblings, he might not have even grieved himself. Sodapop was navigating falling in love while figuring out the loss. The moment he could he dropped out of school to start working at that gas station down the road with Steve.
Steve Randle, Soda’s very best friend. Steve had been a part of the Curtis household for as long as you had remembered. He was always just there. He was always your favorite of the greasers. You’d always found it so easy to talk to him, vent to him. He’d always been soft on you too. Little did you know of his growing crush on you that Soda was, very unfortunately, sworn to secrecy. Even though Sodapop assured him all of the boys would support it. Soda maybe wasn’t the most book smart, but he certainly wasn’t dumb either. Soda just knew when he’d lost his best friend to his sister. Not that he minded. He always knew there was something deeper there that neither of you wanted to see. Not until Soda caught Steve staring off at her a few too many times. Steve couldn’t deny the growing feelings he felt for you.
Then there was Ponyboy. Pony. The baby of the family. The brainiac child who was going to get the hell out Tulsa. He was always destined for so much more than the greaser life he was born into. You never felt like you didn’t belong with them you just felt like they didn’t know you or care to know you. They just assumed you were fine. You had a smile on your face always.
When your parents passed everything went to straight to the depths hell. You had to figure it out on your own as Pony spiraled quickly. His usual A grades were slipping to C’s. He just didn’t seem to care anymore. He and Darry got into nothing but arguments every night. At first you’d tried to mediate, but you’d grown tired of being ignored by the two of them as you tried to calm down the blowouts. So, you just let it happen. Then that dreadful night happened. Johnny killed a soc and Pony ran away with him. For five dreadful days you mustered up the strength to be the rock you brothers needed as they were in a state you’d never seen before. You were just as panicked as they were, you just couldn’t show it. Then he came home, a hero. The entire ordeal was nothing less than horrific for you, but it didn’t matter, no. Ponyboy needed them, you even. You had to be the big sister he could lean on now.
You had been so wrapped up in your own thoughts you hadn’t heard the front doors usual squeak when it opened and closed. No, you were just staring at the pages of homework sitting at the kitchen table in front of you. You hadn’t even heard the footsteps of the man you could probably call your own best friend if Soda hadn’t claimed him so fiercely.
“Hey Peach.” Steve’s usual demanding voice had downturned into something softer, “You doin’ alright? Where’s everyone?” Your eyes flicked up to meet his smiling gaze looking down at you. You’d grown close to Steve, especially after your parents had passed.
Steve had started calling you Peach after you went through a phase one summer where you discovered your love for the fruit. You wanted peach everything. Steve found it far cuter than he should have. He was fifteen at the time and you were fourteen. It was then that he knew his feelings were changing for the younger Curtis sister. You also loved baking, so Steve became your designated taste tester after your family was tired of trying peach flavored treats. He couldn’t stand the look of disappointment on your face when somebody turned down what you baked. That’s why he made sure to take at least one of everything each time you offered.
He didn’t miss the way you jumped. His sudden presence in the oddly quiet house surprising you, “Hi Stevie.” Giving him your best smile that surely didn’t fool him of your sullen mood as you nodded your head along trying to convince yourself more than him, “I’m okay. Just struggling through some homework. Pony’s at his afterschool tutoring thing. Soda’s down at the DX and Darry’s still at work. Said it’d be a late night. His crew took on another job.”
Steve nodded as he sat down next to you grabbing for your pre-calculus homework you’d all but zoned out on, “You’re the smartest gal I know, Peach.” He grinned reading over the problems you hadn’t even tried starting. It was only two years ago he’d been in the same class, and he’d remembered a little of it so an offer of help would likely not do too much to actually help.
A sigh left your lips, “Don’t feel so smart right now Stevie.” Defeat was evident in your tone. You were overtired. Exhausted and not quite sure how you were going to continue on faking something that was breaking you apart. You felt like a burden on the family, on Darry. Useless and just another mouth to feed. At least Soda was bringing in money and Pony had some promise.
Steve was silent as he studied you. He watched as you grabbed for your homework back. Your eyes stayed trained on the homework. Your eyes strained as you wrote something down before quickly erasing it. He’d watched you for a few minutes as you struggled through whatever was going on in your head. Something was going on and he was going to get to the bottom of it. It was becoming clear he was a safe space for you to open up.
He placed his hand down on the table next to yours, “Hey Curtis, what’s going on?” His voice was kinder than you’d ever heard from him which only made it harder to hold back the building tears behind your eyes. Why were you about to cry anyway? It made you feel weak as you pushed your hands in your eyes trying to push them away.
He watched with worry as you seemed to crumble at his words and under his gaze. He’d never, in the nearly twelve years of knowing you, seen you act so off from your usual self. He knew you were holding back from him and that certainly wasn’t like you. It’d only take a little bit of word to get the truth out of your lips and he knew it.
But to his surprise you actually gave him an answer he could understand, “I’m just… tired.” You trailed off before continuing, letting it out. Steve had become sort of a safe space for you after your life was thrust into chaos, “I’m not important Stevie. Not smart like Pony so what’s the point of trying in school? Not beautiful and charming like Soda. I have the personality of a scared mouse compared to him. And I’m certainly not strong like Darry. Who else could do what he's dealing with right now. I’m invisible and useless and…”
Steve had to stop you. The words coming out of your own mouth were upsetting him far more than you realized, “You can’t say things like that, Peach.”
“But it’s true.” He saw the way you blinked slowly trying to stop the incoming tears that seemed inevitable at this point.
Steve couldn’t stand the sight of you. Not having a clue how to comfort not only his friend but the girl he’d always loved but just recently realized it. He decided to grab for your hand. Once he had it he ran his thumb in gentle circles on the back of it. He wasn’t a man for many words most of the time, but you needed his words now, “Your brothers are those things, you’re right Peach. But you’re also the kindest greaser I’ve ever met. When nobody stopped to help that little kid last week you didn’t think twice to help him and stop the bleeding from his scraped knees. You changed that kids day for the better when nobody bothered to stop.”
He smiled seeing the blush rising to your cheeks at his small praise. He had to continue on knowing that the kind words were actually working, “The best damn baker too.  The guys always talk about how good your treats are. Shit, after the rumble they all but demanded some cupcakes from Miss Curtis. You’re a sunshine, Peach. You’re my sunshine, Y/N. So please, don’t say those things. You’re so important. Important to so many people. To me.”
Not being able to hold back the tears after the sweetest words from him you just let them fall. Before you could brush them away you felt his hands wiping them away for you. Not even you could deny the way your heart started racing at the intimate touch of his hands on your cheeks. You loved him and you didn’t have a clue how to say it. He made you feel the safest and most secure out of the greasers. Not even Pony could make you feel so loved, cherished, and adored.
After a moment of your sniffles and tears he decided to do something he’s never done with you before. But then again, he’d genuinely only seen you cry after your parents had died. You weren’t a crier and him seeing you with so many was distressing him. He stood up, took your hand, and gently led you to the living room. Without saying a word, he pulled you down with him as he sat down on the couch. In his boldest move he wrapped his arms right around your waist and pulled you into him. It startled you but it felt oddly… right. There wasn’t a hint of either of you being uncomfortable as you laid your head on his shoulder. Steve let his hand rest just under your hip.
“You hear me Peachy girl?” He whispered while using his other hand to gently run his hands through your hair.
You could have sworn your heart literally fluttered at the way he changed your nickname. Softer and sweeter. A side of Steve Randle that only you would see. He had his issues, but they were never directed at you. You’d never felt safer than when you were with him.
A soft nod came from you, “I hear you. Thank you Stevie. For everything. You’re always there for me. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” If you weren’t so cried out from the earlier tears you were sure the emotions would be too much for you right now. Steve was quite literally holding you in his arms. You didn’t want to think too much into it, but it felt like things were about to change between the two of you.
You felt your eyes grow heavy as a yawn escaped your lips. He had no idea how soothing this was for you. Exactly and everything that you needed. Only he could know that. He knew you better than your brothers that lived with you.
“It’s a good thing you’ll never have to do that then, yeah?” He asked more so reassuring your thoughts
He smiled seeing the tension leaving you, your eyes drooping heavily. It wasn’t what he had planned but he relished at the thought of you falling asleep on him. Quicker than he thought he heart your breaths even out. He continued to run his hand through your hair not wanting to break the peace you’d finally found.
He had no idea how long the two of you sat there before the front door opened up once more. Thankfully it was just Soda who walked in with the usual grease smeared across his face.
“What’s this?” Sodapop grinned as he spotted your sleeping head on Steve’s shoulder, “This where you went this afternoon? Flirting with my kid sister?” His smile let Steve know he was more than okay with the arrangement.
“Oh, get outta here Soda. You’ve been pushing this for years anyway. And quiet down. She needs the sleep. I gotta talk to you and Darry bout her.” His softened stature had hardened right back up in the presence of Sodapop.
Soda set his bag down before walking over to the couch. Even Soda had to admit how painstakingly cute the two of you looked together. The Curtis brother wasn’t sure of much, but he was sure of this. He knew you could jump headfirst in and come out the other side squeaky clean. He knew how deeply Steve had loved and cared for you. He just knew the two of you were meant to be together. There were these things in life that just made sense and the two of you together were one of them.
“What about?” Soda asked not missing the way his hand was wrapped around her.
“Later, I already said be quiet. She's sleeping."
Soda smirked, “Alright grumpy. Already protecting her.”
Steve rolled his eyes while flipping his best friend off, “Always.” A nod of appreciation left Soda before he made his way to his room letting the two of you have whatever it was going on. He knew you’d try and fight it for a while, but he was also sure you’d give in. You were already so soft on Steve, it just made sense.
“Sleep well, Peachy girl.” Steve whispered not minding that he had nothing to do but simply hold you. He’d prayed for days like these and here it was. You might actually want what he did and for the first time in a while he had hope that this could actually work out.
HIII!! I was wondering if u could do the boys from the outsiders having a waitress Friend and they all show up at her work to bother her and ask her stupid things like “since we’re ur friends this is all free right??” lol💕
Sodapop, followed by Two-Bit and Steve, slid into a booth, smiling widely. You internally groaned as the rest of the gang sat down as well.
“Hey guys! What can I get you?” You chirped.
“Ah, really?” Two-Bit sighed dramatically. “You’re using your customer service voice on us?”
“Fine.” Your voice dropped back to its normal tone. “Usual order?” You made eye contact with each of the boys, them nodding in confirmation. “Great.” You scribbled down the orders you had long memorised, asking, “Any other drinks or sides?”
“We’re good.” Darry interrupted before anyone could say anything that could rack up the bill.
“I wanted Coke!” Soda whined.
Darry shook his head. “You can get free Coke from the DX. You’re fine with water.”
“Got it,” you winked at the boys before going off and passing their order to the chef.
The rest of your shift went easily, your other customers being very pleasant. However, whenever you tended to your friends, they always pushed you to ignore your job and sit with them. After their meal was finally done, the boys lazily eating, rapidly talking, and annoying you whenever possible, you smacked down the bill in front of them.
“W-What’s this?” Steve asked, mouth full of the chocolate cake he ordered.
“Your bill.” You frowned. “You all come here every week. What do you mean, ‘What is this?’”
“But we’re your friends!” Soda protested, quickly snagging some of Steve’s cake for himself.
“Yeah…” You were unsure of where this was going.
“We shouldn’t have to pay!” Two-Bit added on.
“I’m sorry?” You peered at them. “You guys owe ten dollars.” (I did the calculations. This is correct.) “I’m not letting you rob this fine establishment of its money!” You made it a couple seconds before snickering at your own joke.
“Ten dollars?” Pony’s mouth fell open. “What the hell did you guys order?!”
Darry sighed and rolled his eyes. “Cough it up!” He ushered the boys to grab their wallets. Everyone handed in two dollars (except for Dally who only shoved in one dollar and Darry who gave three to make up for Johnny’s single dollar), leaving you with their money and a one dollar tip. (Again, at that time, it's a very good tip.)
“Two dollars down the drain….” Soda mumbled sadly.
“Two dollars for your meal.” You corrected, starting to walk away.
“You’re still hanging out with us after your shift, right?” Johnny called after you. You turned around and gave them a thumbs up, eliciting cheers from the group.
“Thanks for the food!” Ponyboy yelled out. “It was… decent!”
“Don’t shoot the messenger,” you remind him, leaving the table to help the other customers.
