Okay.

Hear me out.

I have this idea that hasn't left my head since the end of C2 and I need to let it out. I am of the mindset that the intricate web of wizard spies were kind of overlooked and underpowered towards the end of the campaign AND I can't stop thinking about them. Like they were spoken of as if they were an urban legend... So what happened to them in the aftermath? They were basically mist. How could they possibly catch all of them?

So here's some prompts that I want to write but have never gotten around to or can't write because of my disorganized head.

Prompt #1:

What happens next.

Volstruckers in the aftermath of Trent's capture. What happens to a shadow network of wizard spies when their leader is taken into custody? Do they surrender, slink back into the shadows, or reorganize into an independent spy network?

Prompt #2:

So pretty much the same as the above but cozy second chance romance for a bunch of assassins.

Haha So we follow a volstrucker who disappears into the shadows and reemerges as a tavern owner who refuses to look back on their time as an assassin spy until a familiar face pops into their tavern for a drink.

Anyway I still am fascinated by the wizard spies and wish we spent like...so much more time with them.

Give me an EXU series on former volstruckers finding their way in this worlddd. Would they all be ludinus followers!? Would the leftover volstruckers be on the moon?!

Ugh... Every few months I get wizard spy brain rot and it takes a while to push through the hyper fixation.

My Map layouts for my homebrew Soltryce Academy! Its part of a homegame I was running, its shaping was inspired by the icon in the Capital map! Im super proud of it and cannot wait to develop further!!

In fact I actually already have a document im building to accompany it with information and plot hooks, Teaching staff, other Students and options for playing in the time zone of the Wildemount setting or the year later when the Tal'Dorei setting is set (includes changes from the Critical Role Campiagn 2 events)

the one headcanon i have for every single fucking dnd magic school if the canon doesnt actively conflict it

wizard culture does not believe in shoes. there are special carpets that self clean to ensure noones socks are damaged and it is perfectly standard for young wizards to just walk around in comfy socks all day. there are tunnels between dorms and libraries to allow wizards to travel without risking weather or dirt and the majority of libraries have no-shoes policies or enchant shoes to prevent dirt transfer

it changes nothing about the plots. i just want wizard sock tunnels

i’m attached to the purple, but mixed up the uniform style. vik’s hair looks good this way i think, not sure bout merry’s bang situation but it does feel awkward teen which is good. new logo from the lanyard but made fancy cause the academy’s pretty fancy

At any given time, there are no less then a dozen rumours and two dozen tales surrounding Professor Widogast of the Soltryce Academy.  He’s secretly an archmage who not so secretly tells the Cerberus Assembly to fuck off every other week or so.  He once dated Archmage Becke when they were schoolmates together and lived to tell the tale.  Every cat wandering the school halls (of which there are a sudden and inexplicable number) is actually a polymorphed Professor Widogast.  He used to work as a mercenary, and fought cults.  The cat napping in his office is also a polymorphed Professor Widogast.  He learned dunamancy by seducing a high-level Dynasty spy.  He writes Zemnian fairy tales in his spare time.  He used to be a Volstrucker and may or may not have assassinated Archmage DeRogna.  He spends his weekends fighting gods.  He invented golf.  He’s got a perfect memory and can recite your assignment back to you word for word if you question his grading.  He and Volstrucker Grieve were sharing spell books in the library’s Restricted Section last week.  He’s met King Dwendal.  He once stopped a war.  He moonlights as a pirate.  He’s actually a werewolf.

If you actually ask Professor Widogast about any of the stories, he’ll look at you with an uncomprehending expression and deny everything before throwing in an off-hand comment about the current phase of the moon.

(The silver beer stein sitting prominently on a shelf in his office was Beau and Fjord’s idea, although Caduceus was the one who suggested the wolf design.  Certain people’s complaints that he could at least be a were-cat were unanimously shot down)

((It’s possible that 90% of the rumours and stories surrounding Professor Widogast at any given time were started or shamelessly encouraged by various members of the Mighty Nein.  Veth was exceedingly proud to discover that the collective student body and faculty had already voted her boy Hottest Professor eight years running))

Trick or treat! (Veth?? Trick?? 👀)

Oh, an angsty headcanon for Veth...

I think that even before she became a goblin, Veth had a lot of self-worth and body-image issues. (I mean, this is pretty much canon.)

And I think that after the initial elation of getting her halfling body back wears off, a lot of those old insecurities start to creep up again... And I think it's really hard for her to admit these insecurities to anyone - even to herself - because of how hard she fought to get this body back. So I think it's a really long and tough process for her to learn to really love herself and her body.

I do think that things like her piercings and tattoos are little ways of her reclaiming her body and making it her own, although she also struggles with how those kinds of things are at odds with this image of the Perfect Wife and Mother that she feels like she needs to adhere to. (I have a lot of feelings about Veth and self-image, can you tell?)

like everyone in the fandom, im deep in my m9 feelings after the two-shot announcement, and with the tantalizing possibility of more kingsley content, i’m fixating on how much of campaign 2 is about stories and how the lucien/mollymauk/kingsley triad encapsulate that theme.

what stories do we tell about ourselves? about others? how do we mythologize ourselves, to justify what we’ve done or to protect ourselves or to enshrine ourselves in rose-tinted memory? what stories do you construct about yourself when you are no one, a blank slate whose entire worldview is shaped by the narratives that someone else tells you?

who listens? is it a captive audience at a circus? is it a close group of friends repeating your story over and over again, rubbing away the rough edges until all that remains is the polished half-truth? is it nobody? are you the heroes no one knows about, whose story will never be sung?

are you the last chapter of someone else’s story? how do you claim your own narrative when that someone hunts you, haunts you? do you reject them or do you put them gently, kindly in the grave?

and who do you get to be when you finally have the freedom to choose?
