"Every little thing you do I see
Doesn't feel quite like your relief
I find it hard to sit this still
You've left another hole to fill
I hear you well and I won't pretend
That every other word held ill intent"

Cruel Summer - Part Four
Pairing: Sweet Pea x Reader
Words: 4100ish
Warnings: Angst, betrayal, underage drinking, mentions of sexuality
Summary: The idea of a peaceful, relaxing weekend at the Lodge Cabin is shattered when Cheryl reveals the true depth of yours and Sweet Pea’s past.
Notes: This has to be the longest thing I’ve ever written haha! But finally the truth is out and we get a reader/Sweet Pea kiss, even if it is only a flashback!
Tumblr media
Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes and if I bleed, you’ll be the last to know.
“Absolutely not.” There's a defiance in your voice but the will in Ronnie's eyes is stronger and something tells you, you won't win this fight.
You should know better than to argue with Veronica Lodge.
“It’ll be fun!” You choked back an empty laugh, her idea of fun was far from yours.
“It’s not happening.” You arch an eyebrow but she's too distracted by Katy returning to the table with your coffee order to reply back.
“What’s not happening?” Katy looks between the two of you and an uneasy feeling settles in your stomach.
“Y/N is refusing to come this weekend.” She smirks in triumph knowing she has you trapped, but it weavers slightly at the dangerous game she's pulled you all in to.
“It won’t be the same without you!” It makes you feel guilty and you force yourself to take a sip of your drink just to avoid her gaze, the liquid burning your throat. "You have to come!”
“And play ninth wheel to your couples get away? No thank you.” You defend yourself with a lie, anything to get out of spending a weekend away trapped with the real reason you don't want to go. You just can't stand the thought of being stuck with your ex for a whole weekend.
“You won’t be, Fangs is coming to.” Veronica offers, as if she suddenly feels a little regretful and is trying to make up for it.
“And who knows, maybe you and him...” Katy lightly knocks your knee with hers, her voice trailing off with a thick sense of suggestion.
You laugh unexpectedly. "He’s gay.”
“He’s bi.” She counters, before slapping her palms together and placing them under her chin, pleading with you. “Please! We aren’t taking no for an answer!”
“Fine!” You roll your eyes, deflating back into your chair. "Fine, I give in.”
Ronnie sips from her cup smuggly. “I knew you would.”
“But I’m only agreeing to coming along-“ You ball up your napkin, throwing it in their direction with another laugh. "And not anything to do with Fangs Fogarty.”
-
The next four days pass by in a blur and the weekend arrives much quicker than you anticipated. It takes everything in you to pack, but once you cram everything into your small suitcase you start to feel better.
Maybe a weekend away wouldn’t be so bad after all.
But as you stand in Veronica’s apartment, attempting small talk with Cheryl and Toni you feel your heart rate quicken with every passing second.
You expertly avoid every side ways glance Sweet Pea throws your way, ignoring him to a point that you don’t even pay enough attention to the car ride debate until it’s too late.
“Y/N’s with me, right?” Your mouth opens and shuts but no words come out as every pair of eyes fall on you. You’re completely clueless to what’s going on and Katy takes your silence as agreement. “Then that’s settled, Y/N and Fangs will ride with me and Nate.”
Your eyes widen briefly before you’re forcing a smile, Katy’s arm looping through yours. Betty immediately senses you’re discomfort and mouths you an apology but it’s too late. Veronica’s already insisting Betty and Jug are in Archie’s car with her and Cheryl’s complaining that her and Toni have to split up.
You claim Toni before anyone can say otherwise but nobody argues, only Cheryl with a slight huff.
You fold yourself between her and Fangs in the back seats of the car, and they try to distract you from the awkward tension that grows thicker with each second.
Fangs sings badly along to songs on the radio that makes you all laugh, Toni fills the time with stories of her wedding while Katy seems blissfully unaware of it all.
And for one quick passing moment everything feels okay again. You suddenly find yourself suppressing a laugh at the thought.
You felt stupid. You’d been stupid. You were about to spend a weekend away with your closet friends, all the people you loved and there was nothing that could ruin that.
But then Katy reaches over for Sweet Pea’s hand, and while he links his fingers with hers, his eyes meet yours in the rearview mirror and you realise you know better to think things could be that easy.
Your whole body tenses and Fangs must have sensed something was wrong because he’s immediately pulling you into him and mumbling so lowly only you can hear. “You okay?”
You don’t trust your voice so you just nod, burying your face in his shoulder as you squeeze your eyes shut.
Everything’s just fine. You think. But you can still feel Sweet Pea’s gaze hot on your skin.
-
“Welcome to Lodge Lodge!” Veronica beams, arms stretched up in the air to show off the cabin. You watch the faces of those who hadn’t been here before light up at the sight.
“V this is insane.” Katy’s eyes are wide as her gaze flickers between your home for the weekend and the surrounding scenery. You remember your own reaction the first time Ronnie had ever brought you here, and the way you’d marvelled over the stretches of water and the greenery that seemed to go on for miles.
You grabbed your luggage, walking the opposite way to everyone else, their voices becoming background noise as they retreated in side. You took a deep breath, shoulders falling as you exhaled and took in the views.
You imagined yourself swimming in the lake, the glistening water washing over you or disappearing into the tree line on a peaceful walk, the thought instantly making your body relax.
“Let me.” You jump when you hear Fangs’ voice behind you but smile when you turn to face him.
He grins back, arm already reaching for your suitcase to help you bring it inside. “My hero.”
He laughs at the way you playfully roll your eyes and at your hand that covers your chest as you pretend to swoon.
By the time you finally head inside nearly everyone’s gone their separate ways except Sweet Pea and Archie who are pouring drinks in the kitchen under Ronnie’s command while she waits for you.
“There you two are.” Playing along with Katy’s match making, she gives you a knowing smirk. “We thought you’d got lost.”
“Just admiring the views.” You narrow your eyes at her briefly before taking in rustic feel of the living room. “Can you remember the last time we were all here together?”
“Spring break senior year, you got us lost in the woods.” The words slip from Sweet Pea’s mouth without so much as a second thought and when your eyes meet his in shock, he looks just as surprised as you at his answer.
You don’t have time to notice the way the other three awkwardly glance at each other before Ronnie’s clearing her throat and ushering you towards the stairs. “Well then on that note, I’ll show you two to your room.”
“Room?” You choke on the word, cheeks reddening at what you hope is a mistake. “As in singular?”
“Didn’t I mention that?” She faux innocence, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth to stop her from laughing but you don’t miss the way Archie’s shoulders move up and down in a silent chuckle.
“C’mon sweetheart.” Fangs drapes an arm over your shoulders and places an unexpected kiss to your temple before you can argue. “It’ll be fun.”
Nobody notices the way Sweet Pea glares after the two of you.
-
It was past midnight when you make your way outside, the cool summer breeze sending a shiver down your spine.
The board games had been left to one side, Katy and Veronica had playfully fought over the last cocktail while Archie promised to do the alcohol run first thing in the morning and when everyone had disappeared for the night you found yourself tossing and turning next to a passed out Fangs until you couldn’t take it anymore.
You freeze when you see a shadowy figure in the distance but release a breath of relief when you start to make out Jughead’s features.
“Hey Juggie.” You smile softly as you slip into the hot tub next to him, the bubbles warm against your skin.
“You haven’t called me Juggie since High School.” Your sudden presence startled him before he smiles back, an eyebrow raised in curiosity.
“Guess I’ve been thinking about back then a lot.” You admit with a simple shrug. It felt good to say it out load to someone who wasn't Betty.
“It can’t be easy.” He pauses briefly, gaging your reaction before he gets straight to the point. "Being around Sweet Pea.”
You sigh, sinking further into the water until your shoulders are fully submerged. "You can say that again.”
“You know if it helps, when Sweet Pea lied to you... when he broke things off-“ He cuts himself off and you can tell by the look on his face he's considering his next words carefully. You already know whatever he's about to say won't help at all. "It broke him too.”
“I’m not sure how that’s meant to help, no offence Jug.” There's a harshness in your voice that you don't mean, as your eyes refuse to met his. You focus on the water, running your hands through the bubbles and after a few more beats of silence he shakes his head.
“I don’t know, maybe I thought it would give you some closure, stop the awkwardness.”
You can’t help but laugh, the sound humourless and unexpected. You laugh until your chest hurts, until you’re sure you’re about to cry and then it stops as sudden as it started. Jughead stares at you like you might be losing it, maybe you have finally started to crack. “Well thank you.”
“I should go before Betty comes looking for me.” He looks at you like he isn’t sure he should leave you alone, but you can tell he’s desperate to get away as he climbs out.
“Bye Juggie.” He says his goodbyes, leaning down to kiss your forehead, his friendliness old and comforting, and it makes you glad you have such great people in you life. You listen to his footsteps fade away until you hear them padding back again. “What did you forget now Jug?”
“I uh, I’m not Jughead.” Your head snaps up at sound of the new voice to see Sweet Pea awkward staring back, a hand scratching the back of his head.
“Oh Sweets-“ You quickly jump up, a panic in your voice as you want nothing more than to be anywhere else right now. But you regret it immediately when his eyes fall to your bare skin, and you're suddenly grateful that the blush raising up your cheeks is hidden by the dim light. "I was actually just heading to bed.”
“Don’t leave on my account.” You ignore the part of you that he makes feel guilty, the part of you that wants to stay as you turn away from him.
“I’m not I just- damn it.” You close your eyes in frustration and once you open them again he's staring at you with an eyebrow quirked and a small smirk. "Jug must have stolen my towel.”
“Here take mine.” He wraps it around your shoulders before you have a chance to protest, his hands lingering on the material as he holds it tightly around you.
You don’t say anything, you just start at him silence and for a second you swear you see his gaze flick down to your lips and back, but the action is so fast you can’t tell if you imagined it or not. Your heart beats so fast in your chest you’re afraid he might hear it amongst the quiet of the night.
After what feels like a lifetime you’re the first one to finally look away.
“Good night Sweet Pea.” You whisper, stepping back away from him, leaving his arms to swing at his sides.
“Night Y/N.” You barely hear him as you turn away and run inside.
-
"Blackjack!" Betty shouts a little too loudly, laying her cards down so she can clap in excitement. Her cheeks are flushed from the alcohol and you can't help but laugh at the tipsy blonde as she giggles back.
"This is boring!" Cheryl rolls her eyes in frustration, throwing her own cards across the table. "Can we play a real game now?"
"What like monopoly or scrabble?" Cheryl narrows her eyes in annoyance but Jug just smirks back proudly, his remark earning several laughs from around the room.
"I was thinking more like..." She drums her fingers against her chin as she pretends to think but there's a smile already growing on her lips. "Truth or dare."
Jughead scoffs in defiance, claiming the game is stupid but it only takes Betty a few seconds and a playful peck to the cheek to change his mind and then you're all gathering in a circle.
You mentally prepare yourself for what ever might come your way, sipping a little too quickly at your wine. Your eyes meet Sweet Pea's across the table and you wonder if he's thinking about the same thing you are, the scene around you painfully familiar.
-
Sweet Pea watches the beer bottle spin around and around at what feels like an agonisingly slow pace. He hadn't wanted to play the stupid game in the first place but Fangs had dragged him to the table and when the first spin has landed on him, he'd felt a small thrill of excitement.
He switched his gaze from the spinning object to you as you giggled at something Veronica whispered in your ear, a hushed secret that had you both staring back at him.
He wanted the bottle to land on you, he was practically willing it to stop at this point.
It had been exactly two weeks since he'd walked you home from Pop's and he'd kicked himself about the way he'd pulled back every time he'd seen you in the school hallway. He'd been anxious, unbelievably nervous. His feelings for you scared him, he was worried he wasn't good enough, afraid you would leave him like everyone else had.
But then the bottle stopped on you, and the grin you gave him was enough to make all his doubts fade away. He could barely form a sentence when Betty pushed you over to him and you took his hand, leading him to the closet as those around you cheered. His heart rate accelerated when he heard the key turn in the lock, trapping you both inside for the next seven minutes.
"We don't have to do anything, if you don't want to..." The look you gave him made his chest ache.
"I want to." The words slipped off his tongue, even he was surprised by his honesty but once he started he couldn't stop. "I should have kissed you that night."
A heavy silence follows and he wonders if he's gone too far. Had he read it all wrong?
But then you take two steps towards him, your bodies now practically touching in the small confined space. You let out a shaky breath, and he picks up the smell of alcohol as it fans over his face. "Then what are you waiting for?"
He's not sure, he thinks and now his heart is beating so fast it's almost hurts. His eyes drop to your lips, he's never wanted something so much in his life.
He closes the gap between you with a hand placed on your cheek and you hum at the touch, a sound he automatically falls in love with and wants to hear again.
He isn't sure who moves in first, maybe you got impatient, maybe he was just too eager to know how you tasted but when your lips finally meet his he swears it's something he'll never forget. It starts off soft, so gentle yet it's as if it steals every ounce of air from his lungs.
It takes him a few seconds to pull himself together, but then he grabs your waist, pulling you closer so your flush against his chest. He's suddenly hyper aware that you're being time and it makes him a little sad. He doesn't want this to end.
Especially when you thread your fingers through his hair and you let him push you back against the wall. When you eventually break away you stare at him with wild eyes, hands still around his shoulders and he tries to make out what you're thinking.
"You wanna get out of here? Split a milkshake at Pop's?" You suggest, pulling your bottom lip between your teeth as you wait for a reply l.
"That's the best thing I've heard all day." He laughs, linking your fingers with his. "Well that, and 'who wants to play Seven Minutes In Heaven'."
-
You push away the memory. It's not something you want to think about now, or ever as you force yourself to focus on the current game.
You watch as Cheryl picks off everyone, one by one. Toni proudly knocks back three tequila shots while secretly praying she doesn't throw up, Fangs admits to the weirdest place he's ever had sex and the red head even has Betty confessing whether she thinks Archie is a good kisser or not despite the disapproving looks given from both Veronica and Jughead.
You should have known then, that Cheryl Blossom was out for blood.
"Y/N, truth or dare?" She turns to you with a sickly sweet smile but there's a devilish glint in her eyes that you could spot a mile away.
You know better than to pick truth, you aren't that stupid. Besides, eight out of nine of the people in front of you already knew all of your secrets including the ones you're so desperately trying to hide now. You're almost positive you've caught her out when you make your choice. "Dare."
"I dare you to tell Katy the truth about your past with Sweet Pea." Her smile never wavers as she stares you down, it feels like she’s just punched you in the stomach. Archie chokes on his drink, Betty gasps so loud you can hear it over his coughing and Veronica's already making her way to Katy. Sweet Pea doesn't know where to look as Toni elbows Cheryl in the ribs while Jug and Fangs are instantly at your sides ready to stop you from pouncing at her.
"What's she talking about?" The confusion in Katy's voice breaks your heart and you find yourself digging your fingernails into your thighs.
"It's nothing." You answers too quickly, eyes wide and cheeks red, it’s blatantly obvious you’re lying.
"It's obviously something!" Katy snaps, she can feel the weight of everyone’s eyes on her but they all refuse to meet her gaze.
"Y/N and I used to date." Once it’s out there Sweet Pea know he can’t take it back, it hangs in the air like a ticking time bomb. He looks at you but you’re facing away from him, hands wiping away the tears that have already started to spill.
"Three years is a long time just to date." You're ready to lunge at Cheryl and wipe the smug smirk off her face but Fangs holds a tight grip on your forearm as he warns Toni to get her out of there.
Katy watches them leaving, trying to understand what’s going on before she turns back. She stares downwards, eyes glistening with tears, too scared to know the truth. “Tell me she's lying."
Your shaking when you stand up, hands trembling when you reach out to her. You’re so desperate to make it all go away but she steps back. You aren’t sure if you’ve ever seen her look so betrayed. “It was a long time ago, we were just kids-"
"Was he the guy?" It all clicks into place for her, her voice cracking as she cuts you off. She inhales sharply, lifting her shoulders before she speaks with more force, more anger. “The guy who broke your heart before college? The one you cried to me about!"
You stand there like an idiot, wanting to comfort her, to make her realise that Sweet Pea will never come between the two of you. “Yes but-"
"You lied to my face!” She screams with an accusing finger pointed straight at you. You’re both crying now as Katy looks at each of the faces of the people who are meant to be her closest friends. “And all of you knew."
Sweet Pea rushes to her side, mumbling words you can’t hear, bugging her to understand but she slams her hands into his chest, shoving him back with all the force she can manage.
"I can't trust any of you." She chokes out before walking away, leaving everyone speechless in the aftermath.
-
You spend the rest of the night and the whole of Sunday locked away in your room, thankful when Fangs agrees to hide away with you and only leaves to get food.
You can't bring yourself to face anyone, pretending to be asleep or in the shower every time some knocks on your door. You know you need to speak to Katy, to make things right but every time you build up the courage you hear her and Sweet Pea arguing down the hallway and you quickly change your mind.
Even at 3am, when you sneak out for a glass of water hoping everyone else is sound asleep you can't escape the guilt. You find Sweet Pea sprawled out on the sofa, his long legs dangling over the arm and soft snores escaping his parted lips.
The whole weekend had been ruined.
This time there's no debate on who gets to ride home together. Katy refuses to even look at you or Sweet Pea and states she'll be switching places with Cheryl leaving you stuck with both the smug red head and your ex.
The goodbyes are awkward, a tension surrounds the group before you all break apart. Cheryl insists she sits in the front, her red boots up on the dash bored, taking full control of the radio and Sweet Pea just grunts, too tired to argue. Nobody speaks, even Cheryl and Toni aren't talking properly and the silence is almost painful.
The couple are first to leave the car, Cheryl's smile growing wide as she claims she had fun before bouncing away. You sit on your hands so you aren't tempted to hit out at her, even at 25 she's still the Sam manipulative, entitle rich kid she'd been at high school and you wonder if she'll ever change. Toni mumbles her apologies, embarrassed by her wife’s actions until she's gone too and then there's only three of you.
The ten minutes it takes to get to your apartment feel like a life time and when you eventually pull over its only Fangs that says goodbye before they're driving off again and leaving you at the road side.
You feel slightly better when you’re in your apartment, being confided with in the four walls gives you some sense of comfort. But it doesn’t shift the unsettled feeling in your chest.
You know you need to speak to Katy, you just have no idea what you should say. You spend hours walking around your flat, trying to find anything that would distract you as you replay the weekend over in your head. You think about what was said, what should have been said and when you’ve just typed and deleted your six text to your best friend there’s a knock on your door.
It makes you jump and you think about whether or not to answer it but the knocking just gets more and more persistent until you can’t ignore it anymore and decide to just unlock it.
“Hi.” Sweet Pea stands there sheepishly, gaze down on the floor, a bag slung over his shoulder. “Can I come in?”

*This features OCs from Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, A Nelson Halloween and Runaway, none of which are required reading.

Golden Days
Business was slow at Town Records today and Rae and Finn were taking full advantage of it.
“Finn, we have to stop,” Rae giggled, pulling at his hand making its way up her shirt, “I have to get back to work.”
Finn shot her a look before lowering his face to her neck, pressing kisses into her skin.
“What work? It’s just us here,” he mumbled against her throat before biting down, Rae moaning lowly in his ear.
She pushed at his shoulders and he frowned with a grunt, leaning away. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped and turned when the bell above the door rang. Rae’s eyes widened and she stepped back from Finn’s embrace, her arms crossing across her chest.
“Hiya, Dad,” she warbled, glancing at Finn as Victor Earl stepped inside, a crate full of records in his arms. Finn raised his brows at her before putting his arm around her waist, the two facing Victor as he reached the counter.
“Rachel,” he greeted, smiling a bit before he looked at Finn curiously, “and this is…”
“Finn Nelson, sir,” he cut in, holding a hand out to shake. Victor barely looked at it, only nodding with his lips pursed.
“You’re Gary’s son, aren’t you?”
Finn’s brow lowered and he nodded, exchanging glances with Rae.
“You know him?”
Victor half-shrugged with a small smirk.
“We all knew each other back in the day,” he said simply, “Small town and all.” He gestured at the crate, looking at Rae, “I’m just dropping these off, love. Tell your mum I said hello, yeah?”
With that he smiled at the two and turned to leave, Rae shaking her head after him.
“Such a prick,” she murmured. She flipped through the records, her nose wrinkling at them. Finn scoffed from beside her.
“Well, these are shit,” he drawled, lifting one from the bunch. Something fell from the sleeve onto the floor and Finn bent down to get it.
“What is it?”
Finn held up a faded Polaroid picture and the two stood closer to look at it.
“That’s my mum and dad,” Rae started, squinting at the photo, “Is that your dad in the back? With the blonde?”
Finn nodded, his mouth twisting.
“That’s Stacey’s mum with him,” he said before pointing at another blonde at the other side of the picture, “That’s my mum...with Archie’s parents.”
“Wow...look at how young they all were,” she marveled, her eyes running over her parents faces.
They had their arms around each other, Linda just barely smiling at the camera. Victor grinned around a cigarette, his face turned to something off to the side. Her eyes strayed to the others and she nudged Finn.
“Like father, like son, aye?” she teased, pointing out Gary’s leather jacket and long hair.
Finn scrunched his nose at her but smiled. He looked over his father’s smirk, his body leaning into the blonde’s with his arm above her head. At the other side of the room, his mum had her gaze locked on Archie’s dad, the two beaming at each other as they talked. Archie’s mum had her arms wrapped around her protruding belly, her teeth set into her lip as she faced the two.
“What d’ya reckon happened that night?” he asked, meeting Rae’s eyes as she shrugged.
“Dunno...s’pose I could ask Mum,” she replied, taking the picture and shoving it in her pocket before wrapping her arms around Finn’s neck with a devious grin, “Now, where were we?”
***
“Mum? Could I ask you about something?”
Rae didn’t think mentioning her father was a good idea, given Linda’s hormonal tendencies even with her and the baby home from hospital but she was so curious about the picture they’d found.
“Finn and I found this at the shop…” she trailed off as she held the picture out to Linda. Her brows raised as soon as she set eyes on it, her lips lifting into a sad smile.
“I remember this…”she began, her eyes moving around the shot, “This was a party Simon Evans threw after all of our last exams were done. It was a special night because--” she stopped abruptly, waving Rae to the living room, “We’d better sit, it’s a long story.”
Rae followed her mum to the next room and sat beside her on the lounge, Linda’s hands clasping in front of her. She gave a small sigh before handing the picture back to Rae.
“Your father and I hadn’t been going together for long, only for our second year of college. I was mad for him but wasn’t sure we were going to stay together after school ended and we all went our separate ways.”
Rae nodded, her brow wrinkling. She pointed at the others in the picture.
“Finn mentioned his and Archie’s parents were there.” Linda nodded, a small chuckle emerging.
“Ann was maybe... six months pregnant with Archie and I believe Finn was just a baby, probably at home with Gary’s mum,” she said before shaking her head, “God, what a mess we were all in…”
At Rae’s look of confusion, Linda closed her eyes and shook her head a bit.
“I’ll start at the beginning. It was the summer of 1979…”
*** Linda Smith blinked rapidly after the flash went off, stepping out of Victor’s arms a moment later. Her arms wrapped around herself as she breathed deep, her rapidly growing nausea and the bright light making her head spin. She vaguely saw the picture being handed to Victor before he faced her, smoke flowing from his lips as he exhaled. He held the cigarette away from them when Linda grimaced.
“Y’alright, love?” he asked, his eyes moving from her face to his mates across the room. He raised a hand to them and she repressed an eye roll before nodding and starting to walk away.
“I’m fine...be back in a tic.”
She made her way through the crowd of their classmates to the short line in front of the loo, her hand rubbing her stomach as she leaned against the wall. As she waited, she glanced to her side to see Gary Nelson cornering Felicity Stringfellow against the wall down the hall. Gary’s smirk never faltered, even as Felicity pushed at his chest, shaking her head but giggling.
“C’mon, Feli, don’t be like that,” he urged, his arm held over Felicity’s head. She bit her lip but grasped the lapels of his leather jacket. She raised her brows at him before nodding across the room.
“What would your wife say?” she stressed, Gary groaning under his breath and moving to block her view of Jenny.
“Don’t think on it, girl, just come with me,” he quipped, his smirk widening as Felicity began to crack. She spared Jenny one more glance before nodding quickly and Gary wrapped an arm around her neck, the two starting down the hall.
Linda and Gary met eyes as they passed, his brow raising at her and she looked away hastily, clearing her throat. The two disappeared into a room just as heavily pregnant Ann Davis waddled towards the line. Linda smiled at her as she approached.
“Alright?” Linda asked, Ann blowing out a breath with an easy grin.
“Yeah, I’m okay,” she replied, her eyes leaving Linda’s to her boyfriend Richard Harris and his best mate Jennifer Nelson (née Porter). They stood close, beaming at each other as they spoke. Ann crossed her arms over her stomach as Jenny put her hand on Ritchie’s arm.
“Y’know they’re just mates, Annie,” Linda offered, linking their arms. Ann tried a smile and they both watched Ritchie and Jenny for a moment.
“Those three have always been inseparable,” she grumbled under her breath, Linda nodding but biting her cheek as she thought of Gary leading Felicity away from the party. Ann shook her head and squeezed Linda’s arm, wiggling her brows at her.
“How are you and Victor? Think you’ll tie the knot soon?”
Linda barked a nervous laugh, patting Ann’s arm.
“I swear, you talk more random than duck shite sometimes,” she teased before shrugging, “Who knows…”
“He really loves you, Lin,” Ann started, their gazes going to Victor and his mates, “even if he doesn’t always show it.” They watched as Victor regaled the group with an exuberant story, a lit spliff in his hand.
“S’pose you’re right,” Linda sighed with a faint smile, breaking away from Ann as the line moved, “I’ll see you later.”
Linda closed the door behind her, her stomach rolling as she locked it. She gagged and rushed forward, kneeling in front of the toilet just as bile rose up her throat.
When her stomach was emptied and her head pounded slightly, she slowly stood and shuffled in front of the mirror. She splashed water on her face and neck, taking deep breaths as she stood straight and faced her reflection. Her forehead wrinkled as she took in her smudged mascara and reddened nose, her lipstick all but gone. She closed her eyes as another wave of nausea came over her and bit back tears.
“It’s okay...you’re okay...it’ll be okay,” she mumbled wearily before rinsing her mouth out and reapplying her makeup. She smiled at Ann as she left the loo, rubbing her arm as she passed. She made her way towards Victor but someone grabbed her hand, stepping into her path.
“Simon, hi,” she said, pulling her hand gently from his grip, “Nice party.” He grinned, giving her a once over.
“Looking good, Lins...Earl’s a lucky lad,” he leered, moving a step closer. Linda frowned and crossed her arms, his chest hitting them. He leaned in and she could smell the whiskey on his breath.
“You’re completely pissed,” she sighed, trying to move past him. He grabbed her hand again and she glared at him, ripping it away. He sneered, his head tilting.
“Why’re you still going with Earl anyways? You know he’ll never settle down,” he taunted, Linda’s glare worsening. She glanced at Victor to see him raising a shot glass and tilting it into his mouth.
“Who else would I go with? You?” she scoffed, shoving him away, “Fuck off, Simmy.”
He only laughed behind her and she rolled her eyes, her mouth twisting in disgust. She reached Victor as he finished his story, the group surrounding him erupting in raucous laughter. He barely looked at her, his grin faltering when he felt her hand on his arm.
“I need to talk to you,” she said, leaning close to his ear. He wrapped an arm around her waist and met her eyes, his smile dropping into a petulant smirk.
“Can it wait, babe? I’m kinda in the middle of it,” he answered, raising his brows. She scowled, her lip curling at the smoke and booze on his breath.
“No, right now,” she snapped, his mates hooting and whistling at her tone. Victor reddened and waved them off, leading Linda away and out the back door. He lit up a cigarette and grasped her hands, pulling her closer. She grimaced and turned her face away, Victor’s brow furrowing.
“The fuck are you on tonight?” he groused, his cigarette bobbing between his lips. Linda’s lips flattened and she met his eyes, her stomach flipping.
“I have to tell you something,” she said quietly, Victor nodding and impatiently gesturing for her to continue, “I’m pregnant.”
Victor froze, his eyes widening and the cigarette dropping from his mouth. He coughed in the lingering smoke and backed up a step, staying silent. Linda crossed her arms, huffing before biting her lip.
“Christ, say something, Victor.”
He seemed to come back to himself, shaking his head. His mouth parted but it took him a few moments to speak.
“I...how?” he croaked, Linda chuckling incredulously.
“What d’ya mean ‘how’?” she retorted, Victor standing quiet and still, “I didn’t knock myself up!”
“Calm down,” he hissed, his eyes shooting to the door as her voice rose. He stepped closer to her and held her elbows, trying to pull her away from the house.
“Don’t tell me to calm down,” Linda fumed, her hands raising to his chest. She pushed him away and his expression darkened, his teeth gritting. Inside the door, people nearby quieted, their eyes finding the two.
“You’re embarrassing me, Linda,” he protested, her eyes cutting and hands clenching into fists.
“Piss off, Victor,” she swore loudly, storming away from the house to the street. He groaned behind her and called out but she kept speed, he and the house growing farther away.
Linda wasn’t sure how long she walked but when she came across the park, she went to the nearest bench and dropped to it, bending forward at the waist and bringing her head between her legs. Her hands went through her hair, clasping at the back of her neck and she choked back sobs, her breath short and her heart beating wildly. When she managed a few deep breaths, she sat up straight, her palms pressing into her damp eyes.
She quieted in the darkness, letting the night sounds wash over her as her hands went to her stomach, her eyes squeezing shut as she ran them over the slight bump. The silence broke with the sound of boots scuffing the pavement and she opened her eyes to Victor stumbling towards her, a hand running through his hair. She inhaled sharply when he sat next to her, his hand going to her cheek and swiping at unbidden tears. Their eyes met and Victor’s brow lowered, his mouth set ruefully.
“Y’alright?” he whispered, his fingers running along her cheek. She tried a smile and nodded and he leaned into her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pressing his face into her neck. Her arms circled his neck and she brought a hand through his hair, her eyes raising to the sky full of stars as she suppressed her cries. He nuzzled into her skin before bringing his mouth to her ear, his arms tightening.
“I love you,” he murmured, the words slightly slurred. Linda felt one final tear fall as she smiled wider and whispered back.
“I love you too.”
***
“And that was it.”
Rae’s brow raised as she shook her head, a disappointed pout forming.
“Dad was a dickhead even back then, huh,” Rae sighed, Linda laughing softly and raising her hands.
“Yeah, I s’pose he was,” she replied. Rae took her hands and tilted her head towards the window.
“We turned out alright, though.”
Linda followed Rae’s gaze outside where Karim was holding their newborn girl, bouncing her on his hip as he babbled to her in French. She grinned and nodded, tears pricking the back of her eyes and she linked arms with Rae. The two sat close in comfortable silence, Linda pressing a kiss to her head just as the doorbell rang.
“That’ll be Finn,” Rae trilled, breaking away from Linda to go to the door. She turned back when she reached the stairs, her lips quirking in concern.
“Y’alright, mum?”
Linda nodded, waving her off with a smile. When Rae turned to the door, Linda took the picture from the table, looking it over once more. She gave her and Victor a final glance before ripping the picture in half and tossing it in the rubbish bin. She went to the back door as Rae and Finn jogged up the stairs to her room and she yelled out before going outside.
“Leave the door open, you two!”

Sweet Pea fluffy A-Z
requested: Fluffy A-Z with Sweet Pea 💚 - IVE HAD A SHITTY DAY CAN I REQUEST A FLUFFY SP ALPHABET
Tumblr media
A = Attractive: what do they find attractive about the other?
how brave you are. never once would you say no to a fight, or to do something that may hurt you. when you and sweet pea got arrested one time for trespassing, you were fine, not really caring while sweet pea was freaking out on the inside. when fangs was shot, both of you went crazy trashing the high school. when the northsiders came up, you took out your knife and opened it up, charging towards the tough boys. the tip of your knife against archie’s neck with your face close to his.
“you stupid northsiders killed my friend, he’s laying in a hospital bed clinging for life because your bulldog reggie shot him!”
“it wasn’t reggie, it was mrs. klump!”
“i don’t care! whether it was reggie, or mrs. klump who pulled the trigger, a northsider put him in there! you took our friend, our land, you’ll take everything if we give you the chance” you back away and pick up the garbage can, dumping out the trash onto the floor. “so now you’ll get to watch as we burn your school to the ground” you let out a loud grunt as you threw the metal can at the trophy case, the bulldogs jumping back.
sweet pea was so attracted to how brave you are. not caring if you were to get hurt. he was so attracted to how strong you were as well.
B = Baby: do they want a family? why/why not?
yes. your friend polly asked if you would watch her twins, and sweet pea was in heaven. babies were always a weakness for him, their giggles, their eyes, even their spit up. and after he fed one of the twins and burped he would smile so big. one of the serpents had a baby, and sweet pea always babysat for her, he became ‘uncle pea’
when sweet pea became a dad, the only way your baby would stop crying was to have a bear that smelt like you and sweet pea’s flannel around the bear. sweet pea bought extra flannels just for his little baby, he’d do anything for you and his baby.
C = Cuddle: how do they cuddle?
he’s a big guy, yes, but tall guys need cuddles too! his favorite cuddling position to do was you as the big spoon, arm over his side with his fingers playing with yours, your other arm above your head and scratching his head. his right hand held your hand and the other hand behind your thigh that was over his hip.
D = Dates: what are dates with them like?
simple, just like fangs. he didn’t like going to fancy restaurants, he likes going to pop’s. his favorite thing to do was grab food and drinks from pop’s, going to the drive-in movie and cuddling in the back of his truck.
E = Everything: “you are my ____” (e.g my life, my world…)
you are my home. home isn’t a place, but if it was, it’d be your arms.
F = Feelings: when did they know they were falling in love?
sweet pea only felt real love and that was friend love, and fatherly love from fp. every minute he hung out with you he knew he was feeling something for you, he didn’t know what.
when sweet pea witnessed you singing and dancing as you were making a snack, it hit him, pink rising to his cheeks. “’i love her. goddamn it, i love her so much”
G = Gentle: are they gentle? If so, how?
a gentle giant!!!!! i mentioned today about sweet pea being a preschool teacher, and i see him sitting on the rug, eventually falling because the kids climbed on him.
“mr. pea mr pea! what’s on your neck?” one of the girls poked it making him laugh.
“it’s a tattoo”
“a tattoo?! those hurt!”
“yeah, a little bit. but i’m okay” he smiled at the little girl and she smiled back.
H = Hand/Hold: how do they like to hold? how do they like to hold hands?
the very first time you two held hands, it was slow. you two sat on his couch watching tv, you sliding your hand over and linking your fingers with his, his hands gigantic prepared to yours. he didn’t know how to react, he never held hands like this. your fingers curled, and his slowly did the same, and both of you smiled. the way sweet pea likes to hold you was his arms around your body, his chin on top of your head or on your shoulder if you two were sitting down.
Tumblr media
I = Impression: first impression/s
you thought sweet pea was very cocky and rude, because the first time you met him was when you and jug headed to southside high. but after joining the serpents and talking to him for a bit, you realized he wasn’t this cocky asshole you thought. he was actually very genuine and let his guard down and opened up.
his first impression of you was that you were very gorgeous, but very mouthy. you didn’t put up with anyone’s smart remarks about your hair or your outfit, or who your father was. he watched you walk and noticed how confident you swayed your hips, how high your head was held.
J = Joker: are they into pulling pranks?
YES. ABSOLUTELY. he does it constantly, recording it and sending it to his friends. his favorite prank he pulled was tying and taping you to the bed so you couldn’t move, and he put chocolate syrup on you making you freak out.
but i think you can guess why that was his favorite “prank”
K = Kisses: how do they kiss?
with such passion. his fingers holding your jaw, or his hand on your cheek. your fingers around his wrists or arms, on your tippy toes because he’s so tall, or him bending down. after every kiss he’d whisper i love you then kiss your cheeks, forehead, or nose
L = Love: who says I love you first?
i think this headcanon will help you determine that :)
The “L” Word / Sweet Pea Headcanon
M = Memory: their favourite moment together
singing and dancing to songs in the living room when one of you is having a bad day. there was an anon the other day who said sweet pea secretly listened to 5SOS and 1D and i firmly believe this statement.
sweet pea sat on the couch with a beer bottle on his knee, slouching. you pouted and went over to the speaker, hooking your phone up to it and playing “She Look So Perfect” by 5 Seconds of Summer, a song that sweet pea listened to secretly. you walk to him, slowly taking the bottle from his hands and putting it on the table, singing to him.
“simmer down, simmer down..” you laugh as you sing, for he was angry and needed to simmer down. you grab his hands and dance with him, both of you laughing and singing. after that song was over, “18″ by One Direction played and you two slow danced, ending with pea dipping you.
N = Nickel: do they spoil? do they buy the person they love everything?
sweet pea will spoil you when he gets the chance. he loves getting you little gifts and loves seeing your face lights up. there was a post of the boyfriend buying his girlfriend an 8 dollar ring and she showed it off like it was the most expensive ring, and you would do that when he bought you a ring for 5 dollars, or a bouquet of flowers that he either bought or picked straight from the ground. he had good intentions of giving you flowers to make you happy, and it did. or also got you a necklace with ‘sweetpea’ on it
O = Orange: what colour reminds them of their other half?
a maroon. he always found the color beautiful because it was so dark. you always wore a maroon lipstick, and your favorite shoes were maroon combats that were dark enough to look like black, and the color always reminded him of you.
P = Pet names: what pet names do they use?
baby girl, princess, angel, rose (because that was his favorite flower to give to you) (especially maroon roses)
Q = Quaint: what is their favourite non-modern thing?
his vinyls. he like to play the vinyls when outside was pouring rain, slow dancing with you and just falling more in love with you.
R = Rainy Day: what do they like to do on a rainy day?
just like i mentioned above, he likes to play his vinyls and dance with you. he also loves to draw! drawing snakes, you, or brushing your hair.
S = Sad: how do they cheer themselves/each other up
like mentioned, listening to 5SOS and 1D. dancing around and being silly. he loved the song “young, dumb and broke” by khalid because it was you two.
when sweet pea was sad and needed to cry, you let him. you held his head to your chest and stroked his hair, letting him crying. one hand clenching your shirt and the other holding your wrist, shaking as he cried to you.
T = Talking: what do they love to talk about?
he loves to talk about how much he loves the serpents and how he’ll do anything for them and you. sweet pea is such a loyal member and loyal boyfriend, and will take a bullet for you.
U = Unencumbered: What helps them relax?
working on his bike, playing with your hair, coloring, listening to his vinyls.
V = Vaunt: what do they like to show off? What are they proud of?
you! he also likes to show off the ring you got him, a black band with a golden inside and sides, with your initials on the inside.
W = Wedding: when, how, where do they propose?
he jokingly proposed when you two were drunk, but he was cut off half way through the sentence by a burp and you two laughing.
he proposed while you two were dancing in the wyrm, everyone around and witnessing it. toni played “True Companion” by Marc Cohn. you and sweet pea danced, and the chorus hit for the last time and at the line “i’ve got my heart set on our wedding day” , sweet pea pulled away, got down on his knee and asked you do marry him.
X = Xylophone: What’s their song?
“young, dumb and broke” by khalid
Y = You’re the ___ to my ___ (e.g the cookies to my milk, the macaroni to my cheese)
you’re the knife to my pocket :)
Z = Zebra: if they wanted a pet, what pet would they get?

Could it be?
I’ve never done a Song Fic before so this is my attempt. I hope it’s good, I think this song suits Barchie really well. I’ll link the song below so you can listen if you’re intereested
I know we've been friends forever
But now I think I'm feeling something totally new
And after all this time I opened my eyes
Now I see you were always with me
Archie stood in the entrance of the student loft, watching Betty and Jughead talking in the far corner. It was his Archie’s first day back after his arrest at the hands of Hiram. After a 2-month long court battle the judge ruled that there was not enough sufficient evidence to prosecute him for something as serious as murder. He had Betty to thank for that, she spent so much time gathering information and working with his lawyer to prove his innocence. She even turned down being Jughead’s Serpent queen to do so. As for him and Ronnie, she was mortified by what her father had done and apologized profusely. He continued to assure her like a broken record that it wasn’t her fault. Currently they were still together but things hadn’t been the same since he was released from jail, they were more distant than ever.
“Archie!” a familiar voice said pulling him out of his thoughts
He looked up smiling, Betty was making her way to him quickly embracing him in a tight hug that took his breath away. Archie buried his head in her neck.
“Well I’d say someone is happy to see you”
They pulled apart meeting the eyes of a fellow red head
“Hey Cheryl” Archie gave a small wave before nervously moving his hand to the back of his neck
She nodded “Good to see the judicial system of Riverdale can get something right.” Was all she said before pushing past them
“Welcome Back” Toni nodded before following behind Cheryl
“I see Cheryl hasn’t changed” Archie commented following Betty further into the loft
Betty looked over her shoulder smiling “Guys look who’s back” she spoke to their group of friends
Could it be you & I
Never imagined
Could it be suddenly I'm fallen' for you
Could it be you were right here beside me and I never knew
Could it be that it's true?
It's you and it's you
“Betty are you almost done?” Archie groaned, currently they were sitting in the Blue& Gold office, school had closed 3 hours ago, and they were the only ones left on campus aside from a few teachers and some janitors
She looked up at him “You can leave if you want”
Ever since he had started back 3 months ago they had began walking to and from school together again. They hadn’t missed a day yet. “No, I’m okay, just curious if you were almost done” he excused
She looked up at him and grinned, a couple of stands of hair had fallen out of her pony tail causing wisps of blonde to fall over her face. He couldn’t help but think she looked cute right now.
If he was being honest with himself a lot of things Betty had done lately he found utterly adorable, even though he and Veronica had called it quits 2 months ago he’d never admit to anyone their feelings he was having toward Betty for the past couple months.
“If you want you can read over the rough copy I just printed and let me know what you think” she waved a pencil toward the printer on the other side of the room
Archie shook his head “Bets you wrote it, I’m sure it’s great”
Betty tilted her head and looked at him
Quickly Archie held up his hands in mock defense “Okay, okay I’ll read the paper”
They both let out a laugh as he walked over to the printer to retrieve the freshly pressed newspaper.
It's kinda funny you were always near
But who would ever thought we'd end up here
And everytime I need you, you've been there for me
Now it's clear I've been waiting for you
Archie took a deep breath, glancing over at Betty sitting beside him, she was seemingly transfixed on the movie that was currently playing on the television in his living room. It was the middle of summer, with only about 3 weeks left till their senior year of high school was set to begin. Betty had broken up with Jughead right before summer started, it was a mutual decision with him being so busy with the Serpents he hardly had any time for them to be together as a couple anymore, so they ended it while they could still be friends. He hadn’t seen anyone since his break up with Veronica months prior.
He continued to secretly watch Betty, she laughed, and he turned to look at the screen Joe Pesci had fallen face first into a puddle of mud, oh yeah, we’re watching “My Cousin Vinny” he reminded himself. Her face relaxed again, and Archie still couldn’t look away from her. She was just so perfect. It took breaking up with Ronnie and being single for a while for him to see it, how could he have turned her away a few years ago when she confessed her love to him? He was still right though, he didn’t deserve her neither did Jughead. Betty Cooper was a once in a lifetime kind of girl, he should know aside from family he’d known her longer than anyone.
“Archie? “Betty spoke
He blinked mentally cursing under his breath for allowing her to catch him staring
“Fuck it” Archie said in a moment of boldness, grabbing her face he leaned forward pressing his lips to hers. And to his delight she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back.
Cause today is the start of the rest of our lives
I can see it in your eyes
And it's real, and it's true
It's just me and you
Could it be that it's you?
Archie smiled as Betty reached the front of the isle. He had been smiling already so much this morning that his cheeks hurt. But he didn’t care honestly, he felt like he’d never stop smiling. After that fateful day of their kiss during the movie. His smile grew even wider they had gotten together while watching a corny 80’s movie it was something they both laughed about often.
They dated all through their senior year, they waited until they had been dating for 2 months to make it public. Veronica wished them the best of luck, by that time she had started dating Reggie so there weren’t any hard feelings. Jughead had taken it a little harder, he never said anything, but he kept his distance for about a month before coming back around and saying he hoped they worked out. Then there was Cheryl and Kevin who just smiled and said they knew it was bound to happen eventually.
As promised all those years ago he proposed to her on graduation day when they were both 18, to his delight this time she said yes.
They decided to wait 2 years before getting married, finishing up their Associate degrees before marriage. He was majoring in music on a football scholarship while she was majoring in law. They had both been accepted into the University of Nebraska so that is where they went, sharing a small apartment off campus and coming home once a month for visits.
“Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in marriage” the preacher spoke
Archie gave Betty’s hand a tight squeeze both smiling back at each other, they stared into each other’s eyes with nothing but hope. He could picture what was to come just by looking into her blue eyes. They’d graduate, get jobs, maybe move back to Riverdale, start a family and raise them there. They’d take their kids to Pop’s and tell them all the stories of the memories that happened there.
“You may kiss the bride” the preacher finally spoke after what felt like an eternity. Leaning forward Archie placed a gentle yet sweet kiss on Betty’s lips full of passion and desire.

City Girl Part Three | Archie x Reader
Prompt: After the incident at Archie’s house, it left you confused and Archie heartbroken. A week has passed and both Betty and Veronica have tried to get you to work things out with him, but you bushed them off and told them you needed time to yourself. Archie yearns for you still, but he isn’t sure if he can get you back.
Tumblr media
Back at home after a hookup was over with, gossip would contaminate the school halls in seconds. Rumors spread like wildfires—they could only be put out by confrontation. Girls would gather in the bathrooms talking about how the guy was now available and the next move they were to make if they wanted him next. Guys congregated in the locker room to talk to the guy who was hooking up with the girl to see if she was any good. It was like the animal kingdom back there. Everyone was out for blood.
At Riverdale High, there was none of that. No one was gossiping. No one was starting rumors, well, maybe Cheryl and her minions. It was a week after you and Archie called it quits, so if there was any hype, it was dead by now.
You were walking in the halls after class last period ended and Betty linked her arm with yours. “Hey there,” she smiled brightly at you as you returned one. That was the thing about Betty Cooper, she always knew how and when to make you feel better. “Veronica and I are headed to Pop’s. I have the car, so I can drive us all there,” she offers.
“Thanks, B. But I have a lot of work to do. I have to finish this lab report and then tutor this freshman in French tomorrow, so I have to print a lesson plan for him. I thank you for the offer though,” you say as you try to make your way out of the building, trying to find someone to hitch a ride home from.
Betty grabs your arm, pulling you back to her. “Oh come on. I’ve asked you every day this week to come out and you’ve made an excuse every time,” Betty tries to guilt you. You huff and avert your eyes from hers, knowing that she’s giving you that look. “I know that you want a chocolate malt shake…” she trails off, dangling her car keys in front of your face.
Man, that sounds good.
You softly smile and Betty lets out giggle, knowing that she has won. “Alright, alright. But I have to be home before six or my mom will have my head on a silver platter!” you threaten as Betty brushes the comment off. The two of you find Veronica and drag her along to Pop’s.
As the three of you exit the school, the cool fall breeze encompasses you as you pull your coat closer to your body, trying to keep warm. Betty and Veronica start to chatter about a Trigonometry test they took earlier in the day, fighting over the right answer, but you tune them out. Looking past the parking lot, you see Archie’s car. The car is empty, but you can’t help but feel a little sick looking at it.
You remember sitting in his car, listening to the R&B station as you two just sat there hanging out. He would flip through the channels if a crappy song came on, trying to find a better song. Instead, the static sound came blaring in because he only paid for ten channels of satellite radio. “Oh my God, just turn it off. I’ll plug my phone in,” you’d laugh, trying to push his hand away from the tuning knob.
“Stop, I know that there is a Hits One Station on here somewhere,” he’d laugh, tickling your sides to get you to stop as you squealed. Finally, he’d find what he was looking for. “See! I told you I’d find it!”
“Yeah, it took you long enough. I just turned eighteen,” you’d tease, sipping your cherry cola. He gave you a look that would make you giggle and you’d say in response, “I’m kidding.”
Archie would lean over the middle console and grab your chin. “Patience is a virtue, my dear,” he’d say before kissing your lips tenderly.
“(Y/N)? Are you okay?” Veronica said, snapping you out of your trance.
You looked to her and Betty, clearing your throat. Shaking your head with the light laugh, you tell them, “I’m good. I’m just thinking.” Even though they didn’t believe you, they continued to talk as you all piled into her car.
When you arrived at Pop’s, something seemed off. Betty and Veronica were both silent the entire car ride with only a few sentences murmured here and there. Hopping out of Betty’s car, you noticed that Jughead’s car was also here. “Betty, I didn’t know Jug was meeting us here?” you say almost as a question.
“Oh,” she says, but the quality of her voice didn’t seem to match what she was saying. “I guess he decided he wanted to tag along.” Veronica leads you three in as you furrow your eyebrows.
Why were they acting so strange?
As the bell rang signifying you walked in, you looked at Betty and V to speak. “Guys, what’s going on?” When the words escaped your lips, you saw what they were staring at.
Tucked away in the third booth was Jughead. Sitting across from his was that redhead who made your heart skip a beat. He wore that stupid Letterman jacket you always made fun of him for wearing, but he wore that beat up thing with so much pride. He fiddled with his thumbs at the table as if he was waiting for something, in this case, someone. His eyes met yours and they were filled with so much hope it made your heart hurt. A small smile came across his face as if to say, “She’s here.”
You looked at Jug and he stood up, knowing that you were not going to agree to do this. That statement was true. Looking to Betty and Veronica, you shook your head. “Absolutely not. I can’t do this,” you said, tears slowly welling up in your eyes. Trying to escape the diner before anyone could do anything, Juggie grabbed your waist pulling you backwards.
“(Y/N), please,” he begged. “You need to talk to him. For both of your sakes.”
You looked to Betty and Veronica for some back up, but you knew that they devised this plan. “Jughead is right. You guys need to talk,” Veronica said.
“There is nothing to talk about. End of story,” you say through gritted teeth. How could they go behind your backs like this? They knew how hurt you were already.
“(Y/N)?” a voice said from behind you as you turned around to meet his gaze. There, Archie stood, his hands tucked in his jean pockets meekly. “I just want to talk. Nothing else…”
Staring at him, you gulped. God, he was gorgeous. You turned to your friends and told them it was okay to go. Slowly, you walked over to his booth and sat down across from him. “Well,” you start. “What did you want to talk about?”
Archie licked his lips and then bit his lower lip in thought. You missed his kisses. You missed him, period. “The day we were in my room,” he starts, but you cut him off. “Archie, I don-“
“Hear me out,” he states. “The day we were in my room. You told me that you couldn’t be in a relationship because of what happened.” You nod your head. “What happened, (Y/N)?” You start to get up from the table, knowing that this is going to get out of hand too quickly. Archie grabs your hands and stops you from leaving, his touch making your ache for him. “Stop. I just want to know if I made the same mistake that happened before. Please.”
“You didn’t Archie,” you tell him. “You didn’t do anything wrong.” Archie furrows his eyebrows in confusion. You sigh, knowing that you are going to have to recount the past. “The first relationship I was in was the summer going into high school. It was a boy that I met the summer before and we started to like each other. I thought it would be great. We would be going to the same school, starting a new chapter together. Everything seemed perfect,” you softly smiled at the memories of tanned skin and innocent pecks being shared with your boyfriend.
Archie shakes his head, understanding every word. “It was far from it,” he finishes. You nod your head. “Drew was his name. He was a year older than me and he got into alcohol and drugs. I was completely clueless to all of it. I thought that he was always the sober one when he went out to parties. Turns out I was wrong. Two weeks before school started, his friend had a last hoorah party at his place. Drew went and got crazy drunk. He originally drove to the party, so he thought that he could drive home since his apartment was two blocks over. So, he got in the car and…” you trail off, the memories flooding back to you like a tsunami.
You remember getting a call at one in the morning from his dad, saying that Drew was in a car accident. When the ambulances got there, the car was flipped over and Drew was declared dead at the scene of the accident. You remember the phone dropping to the floor and your knees buckling from underneath you. Your throat was on fire from sobbing as your mom cradled you in her lap.
Before you knew it, Archie was holding you tight as you buried your face in his neck, little sobs escaping your lips. He hushed you and rubbed your back, making you feel safe in his arms. “It’s okay. Everything is fine. I’m here, (Y/N),” he says, kissing the top of your head.
You look up at him, wiping your face. “I shouldn’t have let him out that night. He should have stayed home with me. It was my fault. I told myself I wouldn’t let myself get attached again to someone like that. I was too fragile,” you confess as Archie grabs his face in your hands.
“Look at me,” he says, your eyes meeting his soft brown ones. “I am not Drew. I’m not gonna make the same mistakes he did. And what happened was awful and I’m sorry you had to go through that. But that was not your fault. You need to know that just because he made a mistake doesn’t mean it’s also yours,” he tells you, rubbing your cheeks as you lay your face against his warm hands. His eyes were filled with compassion and adoration. You couldn’t help yourself from doing what came next.
You immediately grabbed his face, connecting your lips with his. It felt so right to be kissing him again. He was obviously taken aback by this and after a few seconds, he relaxed and pressed his lips harder against yours. His touch made you crazy and you craved him after being without him for so long. Pulling away, you pressed your forehead against his. “I promise that I am going to protect you no matter what. Okay?” he says, staring into your eyes. You smile in return as he presses his lips onto yours again. “God, I’ve missed you,” you speaks against your lips.
Breaking away from your kiss you say, “I got lucky with you, Andrews.” He laughs and says, “You hit the jackpot.” You roll your eyes as he kisses your cheek, knowing that what he said before was true. This boy was going to protect you no matter what it was.
And that’s exactly what he did.

No Lyrics, Just Words
A secret santa gift for @no-denying-shes-a-funny-girl as part of the Bughead Secret Santa gift exchange!
Rating: G
Words: 2478
Summary: Even though they’re both writers, Betty and Jughead were never any good at communicating. That’s why long before there was an exchange of kisses, there was an exchange of music.
(A fluffy New Years fic with way too many song references.)
It starts just before Betty leaves for her summer internship. She starts a group chat with Jughead and Archie, Jughead isn’t sure why he qualifies or why she thinks he cares, but he finds himself scrolling through anyway, hating every minute. The first song she ever sends him is actually to both of the boys. It’s Despacito. Later he will be grateful that at least she sent the original all Spanish version rather than the Beiber remix.
The issue is that he kind of likes it. It’s got a good beat, it’s sexy. He can imagine Betty dancing around her room mumbling along to the words she doesn’t understand. In his mind’s eye she dances in short shorts and a tank top that rides up exposing a hint of skin at her belly. That’s where he cuts the thought off. The day she arrives at her internship he sends her Welcome to Paradise by Greenday. Someone has to expose her to good music. A month later, after he’s heard the song dozens of times, he feels differently about that Latin beat.
During the months they are apart they talk very little. Even Archie barely hears from her, but he begins to fade away into his music too. She sends Jughead some songs that indulge his taste in music. Say It Ain’t So by Weezer floats through the trailer for a solid week after she reminds him that it exists. He retaliates with Here by Alessia Cara after Archie drags him to one summer bonfire thrown by the evil redheaded twins. It’s nice. It makes him feel connected to her even though no words are exchanged. He means to continue the tradition through the year, but Jason Blossom’s body washes ashore and suddenly there’s no time to worry about things like that anymore.
Betty misses the music as they run around town unraveling the mysteries of the bloody murder and cover up. When he cups her face in his hands and forever changes how she sees him she realizes that something started between them long before. She’d just been too blinded by a shock of red hair to notice. After the baby shower among their text messages she slips in a link to Paramore’s The Only Exception. She expects to receive back something sentimental. Instead he sends her Creep. As a jest she throws a boyband song back his way. The next time they meet he laughs at her, but she has trouble returning it. Part of her knows he means it, that he believes in those lyrics. When she finally admits to the crescent scars on her hands they share a set of headphones listening to The Monster with Eminem and Rihanna sharing space with their thoughts.
FP’s arrest, finding the tape, Cliff’s death, Cheryl’s suicide attempt, Fred’s shooting. All of it happens in 72 hours. The Sound of Silence echoes heavy in their consciousness.
When Jughead moves to Southside High the music stops again. For the first few days Betty hopes it’s for the same reason they stopped before. Their relationship was strong, they didn’t need to exchange songs when everything they needed to say they just shared with each other. But it’s not like that at all. It’s a scarce few miles between the two sides, but it may as well have been continents. The Black Hood complicates things even further. They break up without a single note left hanging in the air. When she comes to her senses and finally spills every secret she’s been holding in they get back together in a whirl of hushed whispers and hurried kisses. Unable to part from him she spends her nights in his bed.
The first song he ever sends her after joining the Serpents is Lydia by Highly Suspect. It isn’t just a spotify link to the song either. He sends her a link to the video. It starts with a shot of a girl underwater. The camera never leaves her. Two minutes in and she’s still submerged, tied down. There are no breaks, no cut aways. Betty is simply watching this girl drown. When her vision swims and her world starts to tilt Betty realizes that in sympathy she’s been holding her own breath. Her lungs fill with fire as she heaves air in. Suddenly she’s hyperventilating, she’s panicking. She can’t breathe. Jughead can’t breathe. He’s drowning with the Serpents, in over his head with no where to go. The song ends. The girl is still in the water, and Betty knows what she has to do. She has to dive into the pool with the Serpents to help Jughead get out.
For some reason it never even occurs to her that instead of setting Jughead free, she’d just get tangled into the same mess. The music stops.
It also never crossed her mind that she might just end up being actual friends with Toni. It starts with Toni pulling her aside after the disastrous dance.
“Mad respect for pulling it out like that, but you know dancing isn’t the only step to becoming a Serpent, right?”
No, she didn’t know. Jughead told her a little bit about his initiation, but not enough.
She knows, of course, that it’s a gang. She knows she’s entering into a world of blackmail, drugs, and other nefarious activities. But it doesn’t feel like that. It feels like being welcomed into a family. The Whyte Wyrm is an amalgam of bad Thanksgiving cliches. Yeah, your drunk racist aunt is chain smoking in the corner, but the rest of the group are people who get you in a way no one else will. The Coopers never felt right to Betty. Apparently she’d just been spending time with the wrong half of her DNA. Maybe she always belonged with the snakes. Well, most of them anyway.
Word travels fast about the Snake Charmer. The ruthless vicious part of Betty that nearly drowned Chuck is gloriously pleased at the vengeance. Her conscience quickly admonishes itself for thinking such things. No one deserves to have swaths of flesh cut off their arm. Then her rationale cuts in. This woman is not someone to be trifled with. She’d be looking for retribution of her own.
It’s Toni’s job to hide the streaming camera that catches Penny typing in her password. When Betty breaks into the office that night she hums Secret by the Pierces to herself. Because two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.
Predictably Tall Boy is the one Penny calls to her defense. “They cornered me!” She screeches to the crowd in the Wyrm. “They cut the snake right off my skin! Is that what Serpents do to each other?”
She’s chosen a day when Jughead is at school, obviously trying to start a revolt, “This can not stand!”
“Here Here! We’ve had nothing but trouble coming down on our heads since F.P’s boy got it in his head to try and take over.” Tall Boy adds to the growing restlessness.
“Hey Penny,” Betty shouts over the din, “Remind me why the kids jumped you.”
She sneered, “Because they weren’t willing to paid an agreed upon price. Is that what we want the next generation to be, welshers?” The crowd roared their approval.
“So you weren’t blackmailing them?” Toni stood tall at her side. They made a formidable team.
“I do what it takes to get the job done. Hey, I didn’t want to, but the Jones’ haven’t been trustworthy.”
“Not trustworthy?” Betty shook her head, “I think going to jail without a word was pretty high up. Tell me, Tall Boy, what have you done that made you not worthy of Ms. Peabody’s trust?”
“The hell you mean?” Tall Boy asked.
“Well,” Betty pulled out a few photos she’d taken upon herself to download. “She has several photos of you. Tell me, how long is the statute of limitations on aggravated assault? Because however long it is, that’s how long she owns you.”
As he flipped through the photos Tall Boy’s face grew redder.
“Now, I can explain that.” Penny pleaded
“Can you explain all of them? Because I think there’s something in here on every single person in this bar right now. Is this your way of never betraying your own? Is this how you make sure a Serpent never stands alone?”
Betty doesn’t have to say another word. The crowd took it away from her. Penny was forced to flee out the back. In all the commotion somehow Betty ends up with a jacket with a Serpent patch.
“Damn, B, you’re kind of ruthless.” Toni remarks.
“Dark. Most people call it dark.”
It feels like home.
++++++++++++
The snow falling on New Year’s eve is that glittering snow that falls in huge wet flakes. It’s snowman weather since it all clings together on mittens and eyelashes. In the house behind Betty a New Year’s bash rages. Reggie volunteered to host, followed swiftly by Cheryl commandeering the role since Reggie was apparently useless at planning anything. It was a great party, or at least everyone else seemed to think so since Betty was the only person avoiding it by sitting in the snow. Loud bass reverberated against the windows making them shudder. It was only a matter of time before the Sheriff would get called.
“Hey, Betts.” Jughead’s voice was soft in the twilight.
“Are you coming out here to smoke? Seems to be the only reason people step outside.” She shivered. Her dress barely went to her knees, so even with her cloak covering her upper half she was freezing.
Jughead smirked, “I thought you knew me better than that, Ms. Cooper. Nah, I think I’m just going to go. There’s nothing here for me.”
“Me too. I think I’ll head out soon.”
“What you’re not here to find romance?” He said. He tried to come off joking, but the bitterness clung.
“Nope. I kissed someone just for saying, ‘I need you Betty Cooper’ not too long ago. I think my judgment is compromised. If only the kiss had felt as good as hearing the words.”
Jughead stepped down next to her, his heavy boots thumped on the wooden steps. “Didn’t turn out well?” he asked as he sat next to her.
“I’m pretty sure I gave him a look that can only be classified as, ‘Horrified’, so yeah, I’d say not good is putting it mildly.”
They chuckled, “Can I ask who the lucky guy was or would that be weird?”
“Not weird.” She swallowed, “Archie. During the four seconds he was broken up with Ronnie.”
Quietly Jughead said, “You finally snagged the football star and didn’t like it?”
“No. He tasted like old dreams and disappointment. I don’t know what I was expecting, but not that. Actually, I do know what I was expecting. I was expecting it to be like it was with you. A revelation.”
“A revelation, huh?” He sounded rather smug, “Speaking of, I hear you finished the job I started on the Snake Charmer. You shouldn’t have done that, Betty. You’re in her crosshairs now.”
Betty groaned, “Can we not? I think something’s too dangerous for you, so I leave you behind. You think something is too dangerous for me and leave me behind. I’m going to do stupid things without you, the darkness is there even when you’re not. Let’s quit thinking we know what’s best for each other. It’s getting exhausting.”
“Yeah, I guess. But that seems to be all we can say to each other. If we’re not going to talk, what do you suggest we do?”
Just then the first few strands of Despacito floated through the walls. Betty giggled as she pulled Jughead to his feet. He reluctantly allowed her to move him into some semblance of a dance that ended with them giggling furiously in each other’s arms.
“Betty, can I tell you a secret?” He pulled her in close so that his breath was on her neck.
“Anything.” She whispered back, basking in his heat.
“I really, really, hate this God damned song.”
Betty was over come with another wave of giggles. “How is that a secret?”
“Most people who say they hate it secretly like it. Hell, I used to be one of them. Now I just plain hate it, but I listen to it all the time.”
“Why listen to a song you hate?”
“Because it was the first song you ever sent me.” He said with a shrug. “Did you know that despite it being the song of the summer it was actually released January 7th? So, happy song-versary I guess.”
She ran a finger down his cheek, “You too, Jughead. I wish we had made it as far.”
He tilted his head down, hers went up. Their mouths inched closer together.
Jughead pulled abruptly back, “No wait. This is stupid. We can’t do this again.”
“Why is it stupid? I mean it Jug, tell me why we shouldn’t keep fighting for each other.”
“Because you know what people say about repetition and insanity. Nothing’s different. We’ll just loop around again, breaking each other’s hearts in the process.”
“Then let’s break the circle. Let’s do something different this time.” Betty said.
“What?”
She took his hands in hers, “No more songs. I’m not saying we shouldn’t also send each other music, I’m just saying that we have to actually talk to each other. You have to stop believing that you’re protecting me from situations by jumping off a cliff and laving me stranded in a field. Just give me the option of taking your hand and leaping with you. Half the time I’m doing the same thing from the other side of the ledge anyway. We’ve said no more secrets before, but broke it so quickly. I’m never going to be that golden girl I was before I left for the internship. I know who I am now. This time, let’s mean it. Let’s go down swinging together.”
Through the windows came the sounds of the countdown to midnight.
“What do you say, Juggie? New Year’s resolution?”
6… 5… 4…
He kissed her hand, then let go so he could cup her cheek, “This year we leap together. No more lyrics, just words.”
3… 2… 1…
He leaned in and kissed her. Yeah, it was going to be a great year.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would like to thank @leaalda for making these amazing banners.
This is an effort to spread the word about all fan fiction writers in our little fandom. If you would like to be featured or nominate a writer, please contact me. Please reblog this post if you can and check out some of @fxyeahriverdale work!
1. First things first, if someone wanted to read your stories where can they find them.
Archive Of Our Own (AO3) my username is saltwaterkid95 and I post links to my stories on Tumblr.
2. Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Morgan I am 22 years old from California. I have a degree in film and electronic arts, I have worked on student films, TV, and sports broadcast in the Los Angeles area. I have lived in England and Germany. I am about to get my masters degree in sports broadcast journalism in the UK.
3. What do you never leave home without?
My small purse that has my money, credit card, and driver’s license in it.  Also my phone.
4. Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night Owl definitely. I have really bad insomnia so I just don’t really sleep that much haha.
5. If you could live in any fictional world which one would you choose and why?
So I have always loved Peter Pan since I was little. I would love to live in Neverland because I don’t want to grow up and live in the “adult world” haha. No adults to ruin the fun that sounds amazing!
6. Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met.
I’ve worked on several sets with famous people, but probably the most famous person was LL Cool J. I have seen Justin Bieber at a restaurant before if that counts?
7. What are some of your favorite movies/TV?
Riverdale obviously is my favorite tv show at the moment. I love foreign films and tv. I am so happy that Skam is being appreciated worldwide.
8. What are some of your favorite bands/musicians?
The National and Artic Monkeys are my favorite bands.
9. Favorite Books?
I have read Catcher In The Rye so many times! When Hitler did cocaine and Lenin lost his brain is fabulous! The Outsiders, Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, The Girl on the Train.
10. Favorite Food?
Carrots. I know that is really weird, but I just really love carrots.
11. Biggest pet peeve?
When people are given hand outs when other people have to earn things.
12. What did you want to be when you were little? What do you want to be now?
Dolphin Trainer and now I want to do replay or be a technical director for Sports television.
13. What are your biggest fears? Do you have any strange fears?
Snakes. I hate snakes! I have bad anxiety, so I am paranoid and scared of everything.
14. When you are on your deathbed what would be the one you’d regret not doing?
Probably the What if scenarios in my life.
Okay… lets talk about your writing!
15. Which is your favorite of the fics you've written for the Bughead fandom?
I haven’t released it yet I am currently in the editing stages, but I wrote a really fun angsty (deciding whether it’s a one shot or two part currently) that is loosely based on the Hangover where Kevin, Moose, Reggie, Archie, and Jughead go to Las Vegas for Archie’s birthday party and end up losing him. Betty is in town for a journalist convention and she has to help them find Archie. I have had so much fun writing it on the side, but it’s taking me forever!
16. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?
You Were A Kindness definitely because I have so many ideas and it is all ready so much longer than I expected it to be.
17. How do you come up with the ideas for you fic(s)? Do you people watch? Listen to music?
Usually when I am trying to fall asleep or in the shower ideas just pop up in my head. I have been driving back and forth between San Francisco and LA a few times this summer and I have had a lot of time to think of ideas. Music does heavily influence my writing, I name all of my stories after songs.
18. Get inspired by TV/movies?
Absolutely. My ongoing multi chapter right now is loosely based off Baby Driver. I am also currently writing a one shot where Betty is the Bachelorette after she was dumped on National television in the finale of The Bachelor by Archie when he chose Veronica.
19. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?
I haven’t had that issue yet with Bughead luckily.
20. Least favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?
The last chapter of What Happened To Us. I am happy with it, but I am really bad at writing smut. Smut takes me longer which frustrates me because I can never find the right words.
21. Favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?
I am really happy about the twist I wrote in Chapter 11 of You Were A Kindness.
22. Favorite character to write?
Betty Cooper definitely. There is so much to explore with Betty and I really relate to her anxiety studies and pressure from parents/society.
23. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you've written?
“These two really need to sit down and have a bro down.”
24. Best comment/review you’ve ever received?
All of them. Anyone who takes time out of their day to read and even better comment is amazing. There is no greater feeling than seeing a comment on one of my stories!
25. How do you handle bad reviews or comments?
I try my best to take it with a grain of salt. Everybody is into different things and not everybody is going to agree with or like your work. It sucks, but as Kevin G said it best, “don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thang.”
26. If you could change anything in any of your stories, what would it be?
I would make some of my chapters longer from You Were A Kindness, so that it wasn’t such a Slow Burn.
27. What is your favorite story you’ve ever written? Any fandom?
When I used to write in the football fandom a long time ago I wrote a one shot (I forget the name of it) where the protagonist’s relationship is going through a rough patch and Juan Mata’s girlfriend decides to go back home to Spain. She leaves him and then hours later he sees on the news that her plane has crashed. He is devastated until later she walks back into their house with her bags claiming that she couldn’t get on the plane. I won a footie fan fiction award for this fic haha, so I guess it’s my favorite.
28. What are you reading right now? Both fan fiction and general fiction?
Any Bughead fan fiction really. There are so many wonderful ongoing Bughead stories right now. I am also reading a Swedish book A Man called Ove.
29. Do you have an advice for writers that want to get into this fandom but might be scared?
Just go for it! This fandom is super supportive. There are so many talented writers that are willing to lend advice and help out others. Also getting a beta is another way to help with your writing. I personally don’t have one, but it is always good to have somebody to bounce your ideas off of. I was really scared to post my first story and I am really glad that I did it.

heroes
pairing: riverdale crew x reader (platonic)
summary: a superhero au request
Tumblr media
You were born ten minutes after your brother, Archie, and raised in Riverdale all your life. The quiet town was split into two sides, and you were lucky enough to be living on the same side as Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones. Together the three of you grew up side by side, staying out late at night to play Cops and Robbers and having many sleepovers. You imagined being grown up and protecting Riverdale from the bad guys, but Jughead always preferred to leave the superhero talk and focus on his passion for computers and science. You remember calling him a nerd, teased him for wearing the hat his sister gifted him, but being met with an indifferent Jughead.
When Veronica Lodge and her parents moved to Riverdale, all it took was your brother asking her out and suddenly your friend group was up one. The five of you went to football games, ran wild through the streets late at night, and entertained the idea of changing the world.
In the summer before junior year, Archie texted the group chat and told everyone he had discovered something during his morning run. Being the curious teens you were, you all followed Archie's orders to meet at Pop's so he could lead everyone to what he found. At six, when the sun had just started to rise and the birds were singing their morning song, you found Betty and Jughead holding hands at a booth. It came as no surprise since they had been dating for a few weeks, and although the friend group was down to one single you didn't mind.
Shortly after Veronica showed up, Archie followed suit (still in his sweaty running shorts) and led everyone to the south side. Betty grew more hesitant with every step, but Jughead's relentless teasing shut her up. Veronica, like yourself, was excited to see what your older brother had in store. As you stepped through a hole cut into a chain link fence, you realized Archie guided you to the train yard. Before you sat a single train car knocked off the tracks, a hole blown through its side and sharp metal sticking in all directions. Veronica rushed toward it, interested in what happened to the massive freight car. Betty followed after her, worried the brunette would cut herself as she jumped into the train. Jughead stayed behind, guarding the fence as he mocked his friends for being so reckless.
Betty pulled you along by your hand as Archie hoisted himself up and onto the car. He peered inside when Veronica let out a nervous chuckle. "Get me out of here!" She cried. Betty attempted to climb up the same way Archie had, but your brother pulled Veronica from the darkness of the freighter as soon as a ball of swirling blue gas bolted up and landed on the dirt. The force of the impact sent everyone flying back.
You woke up seconds later, ears buzzing and body vibrating, as if you had clutched a knife in your hand and stuck it into an electrical socket. The sound of laughter reached your ears, and when you looked up you saw Archie flashing back and forth, his legs carrying him from the chain link fence and across the tracks in five seconds flat. Whatever the hell that ball of light was changed your lives forever.
It didn't take long for everyone to figure out what happened to them. Once the last of you regained consciousness, Jughead ordered an assessment of physical damage. Jughead snapped his fingers in front of Betty who stood before him and mimicked his gesture. When her hand caught on fire everyone panicked, Betty waved her arm around, and Jughead tried to pat it out by taking off his jacket and smothering the flame. "Stop!" Betty commanded, intending for Jughead to back off in case he was injured but instead turning out the fire consuming her body. You spent the next few minutes staring in fear at what happened, but Jughead nervously laughed it off. "Okay, Blaze," he chuckled.
When Veronica asked Betty to do it again, both girls stood in front of each other. Betty snapped her fingers and once again, fire covered her body. Your head buzzed, and the sound of rushing electricity filled your ears. Archie held his arm in front of you, ready to push you away if the fire grew too large. His hand touched your exposed arm as Veronica blew on Betty's combustible body, spreading ice over the fire as Archie was electrocuted. Jughead took it upon himself to cover up what had taken place that day, unaware of what would become of his friends.
When junior year started, Jughead got a job at the drive-in theater. Over the course of five months, Archie and Jughead built a secret room underneath one of the abandoned warehouses by the south side border. Veronica used her sewing skills to make clothes that would suit everyone's newfound power, while Betty and you tried to figure out what to do regarding secrecy and training. Every day after school, once the base was completed, everyone practiced controlling their powers, balanced schoolwork and jobs, and fought each other. It didnt take long for Jughead to name everyone accordingly: The Fabulous Four; Betty was Blaze, Veronica was nicknamed Frostbite, he called Archie Turbo, and you were dubbed Shockwave. At first he meant it all mockingly and returned to building computers and such, but it stuck.
It was a Friday night at Pop's when you all got together to do homework. Of course, your attention fell to other subjects as the tv behind the counter was set on a news station. A live feed caught your attention, electricity running through your body as you watched a high speed chase. Knowing glances were shared between your friends, and after chucking a few twenties onto the table top, you all ran for the warehouse to put your new suits to the test. Jughead unlocked the warehouse and marched across the floor, sitting at a desk as Archie switched on the florescent lights. The warehouse sparked to life and you and the girls took the suits from a closet Archie built into the wall. Your shoes scuffed against the tile floor as you walked over to Archie to hand him his suit. He ran his eyes over you in a silent, "be careful" gesture.
Jughead interrupted the moment by handing you and your twin earpieces before tossing two more at Betty and Veronica. It didn't take long for Jughead to track the criminal you were after.
Hopping from rooftop to rooftop, your friends followed Betty as she led them downtown. Jughead spoke to you through the earpieces he had created weeks before. He followed you in a van he bought with the money he earned at the drive-in, directing everyone on what street to turn on. "This guy's dangerous," Jughead announced. You leaped over an alleyway and landed on the next roof with a huff. Archie sped past you and toward Betty, and a chill ran down your arm as Veronica glided on a wave of frozen ice. "He robbed a bank a few hours ago and shot the security guards," Jughead continued. Betty cursed as she halted abruy, the line of shops and business stopping to lead the road onto the highway. Veronica conjured up a slope of ice for everyone to slip down, and soon enough you were on the side of the highway. You used the electric current flowing through street lamps and powerlines to energize yourself, a trick that had taken you weeks to perfect.
"This is it. Our target should be a short distance away. If you guys die," Jughead sighed, "I'll kill you." Betty launched herself into the air, her hands pointed at the ground as she used fire as a jetpack. "I've got eyes on the target," she declared. Archie, without hesitation, darted forward and dodged speeding cars until he was no longer in sight. Betty mumbled incoherent curses at your twin before landing back on the ground. Veronica, tired of running, grabbed onto a garbage truck and hoisted herself atop its roof.
Catching onto the idea, you and Betty followed suit and jumped along the roof of cars to get to your target faster. "I'm goin' for it!" Archie shouted into his earpiece. Suddenly, creaking metal pierced the sky and a wave of wheels and money surrounded you. Archie had tipped the target's car over, sending it into the side of the road to get him off the street. It crashed through trees, a red dash of light following behind the heap of metal. Archie's red suit gave away his location, and Betty ordered you to run into the forest. "Get me eyes on our guy," Jughead said. Darting through the trees, Veronica held a hand out to freeze a breaking branch. In a clearing straight ahead, Archie ran circles around the flattened vehicle of the bank robber. You could hear him laughing through the earpiece.
"Archie, stop playing around!" Betty ordered. After running for God knows how long, you reached the van Archie had knocked into oblivion. Smoke hissed out of the hood, and Veronica took it upon herself to freeze the front of the vehicle to prevent the car from exploding. "Stay back!" A man, bloody and bruised, climbed from outside of the car. Two others followed, each big and burly but battered because of the collision. Archie stepped in front of you in brotherly protectiveness, but your open palms radiated enough energy to knock both men flat on their faces.
Betty's hands ignited and she threw a ball of fire into the grass to send the men flying. Veronica froze one man in place, Archie running about catching bullets as the target shot at you aimlessly. You sent a bolt of electricity at him, stopping the rain of bullets as the man convulsed on the ground. Behind you, police sirens wailed and the last enemy standing threw a punch at Betty. She caught his fist, burning the skin of his hand as Veronica froze his feet in place. Archie rounded up the other two men, throwing them against the car as you electrocuted the last target. Jughead sped through the tree line in the van, parking it and throwing open the side doors as helicopters flew above you.
"Get in!" He shouted. Without pausing, you and your friends dove into the van, hanging onto the walls as Jughead floored the gas pedal. Archie hollered, throwing off his mask and holding a hand for you to high five. "Is everyone okay?" Betty asked as she looked around. Archie kissed Veronica's lips, congratulating her on how well she had done as Betty climbed into the passenger seat. Jughead took her hand in his, the main goal to get everyone back to headquarters safely. "I can't believe we did that," you laughed.
"Guys," Veronica said, "We kicked ass!" Betty shook her head in mock shame as Jughead pulled into the dusty parking lot of the warehouse. He turned the engine off, twisting in his seat to glare at his friends. "I dunno if we should celebrate just yet," he admitted.
Betty, confused, was about to voice her argument against her boyfriend before he continued. "If the government catches us, we're gonna have to pay so much money in property damage."
The van of teenagers groaned in sync, tired of fighting crime and exhausted of Jughead Jones' sarcasm.

the winged beast
Fandom: Riverdale
Ships: Betty x Jughead, Archie x Veronica
Chapter: 1/12
Summary:
This is how the world ends, she thinks. Not with a bang but with a motorcycle.

The butterfly theory maintains two principles: one, that if butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil, six weeks later, a tornado will tear across Texas. Two, the butterfly itself is not causation, but the consequence.
A man at an impasse makes a hard call and the winged beast flies. Years later, a boy is 12 years old and he falls off his bike, breaking three ribs. He’s in the hospital for days and when he returns, everything has changed.
The butterfly does not intend to create a tornado, nor will it ever realize that it has.

SEPTEMBER
It’s just another day, Slippin’ into stockings, Steppin’ into shoes, Dippin’ in the pocket of her raincoat,
It’s just another day—
10-2-01. Click.
At the office where the papers grow she takes a break, Drinks another coffee and she finds it hard to stay awake,
It’s just another day—
Absentmindedly, she hums along to the song buzzing in her headphones as she fiddles with her jammed locker. “It’s just another day,” she mutters along under her breath, dryly aware of the irony Spotify has bestowed upon her. Fitting.
Finally, after a firm yank, her locker gives. She makes a mental note to bring some oil tomorrow to loosen the metal, it having gone a little rusty without use over the summer.
Heaving her backpack to one shoulder to deposit the textbooks she won’t need until later periods, Betty runs through her list of classes one last time, mumbling to herself about already mixing up the schedule of AP Calc and AP Bio.
Glancing around over her shoulder, Betty withdraws the carefully folded clipping she’d hidden in her AP History textbook. There’s no need for such espionage at school, which lays beyond the proximity of her mother’s eagle eyes, but she still feels an inkling of nerves.
DRUG OVERDOSE EPIDEMIC SPREADS ON THE SOUTH SIDE, the headline reads in small, dark letters. It’d been crammed into a byline, barely discernible under the front-page story about the Twilight Drive in closing later in the month.
Betty slips it into the binder she’s designated for the school newspaper, and hesitates with whether or not to keep her extracurricular binders on her person. Besides the Blue & Gold, she already has pep rallies to plan and cheerleading routines to double check.
She won’t really be able to look over them until lunch at least, but she might not have time to run back to her locker before then because the tour might—
Betty curses, checking the time on her phone. Cheryl has sent her another flurry of reminders about the routines, but she ignores it. The tour. A flutter of panic blooms in her chest when she sees she’s running late, immediately kicking herself.
Ah, it's just another day, Choo choo choo, choo choo choo, It's just anoth—
She rips the headphones from her ears as she turns the last corner, where Principal Weatherbee is already waiting for her. His mouth is set into its usual thin line. A girl with shoulder-length black hair and a gleaming set of pearls is standing beside him in the doorway, her dark eyes warm with recognition when they land on Betty.
“Miss Cooper, thank you for joining us,” he greets, lips lifting in a wan smile. His tone is warning, even though she’s not even two minutes late. “Betty, this is Veronica Lodge.” Veronica offers her hand to Betty with poise, even though they’ve already met last night at the diner.
Weatherbee, frowning again, impatiently gestures beyond the doorway at someone. “And, transferring to us from Southside is—” Weatherbee checks the slip of paper in his hands, as if sure he’s read it wrong. “Jug-head Jones?”
A dark haired boy in a thick black motorcycle jacket falls into the doorway, his arms stretched over his head and fingers gripping the top of the frame. He’s good looking, but practically a stock photo of trouble.
Blasé would be the most appropriate word for his expression, but when his gray eyes land on her, they narrow. Betty’s narrow right back. There’s something vaguely familiar about him.
Weatherbee turns to him. “Jughead? Is that right?”
The boy’s eyes drawl over to Weatherbee. “As luck would have it,” he says by way of reply. His voice is low and dry. He glances back to Betty, and she realizes she’s been staring. He fixes her with a curious, studying look, then, with a world-weary sigh, turns his attention to the ceiling.
The obvious dismissal brings her crashing back into the moment. Betty flexes her fingers and blinks back to Weatherbee and Veronica, who is watching her raptly. Betty can’t tell if it’s just the shape of Veronica’s eyebrows that make her look perennially curious, but she decides to ignore the questioning look all the same.
“Thank you for agreeing to give tours today. We know you already have a busy schedule and we appreciate you making the time to be a peer counselor,” Weatherbee says, though his gaze is on Jughead, eying him with little attempt at concealing his disdain.
“It’s not a problem, sir,” Betty chirps. She glances between Veronica and Jughead. “Shall we?”
Veronica joins her at her side, while Jughead trails behind a step or two. He’s deliberately dragging his feet, but she can feel his body heat at her back all the same and it’s distracting. With a concerted effort, she gives Veronica her full attention.
“So, I usually like to start my tours with a little history. Riverdale High was founded in 1939 by—”
“Betty,” Veronica interrupts, her tone kind, but simpering. “Running the risk of sounding scandalously rude, honestly, I don’t care about attempts at art deco architecture in suburbia. Really. I’m much more interested a crash course in the social hierarchies here in Riverdale. Who throws the best parties, which bars don’t card, which boys to avoid…” She pauses, throwing Betty a calculating look. “By the way, I’m sorry if I interrupted your date last night.”
There’s a noisy exhale from Jughead behind them, but Betty keeps her eyes on Veronica. She laughs. “Oh, at Pop’s? That wasn’t a date.”
“So, that wasn’t your boyfriend?”
Betty raises an eyebrow, but smiles knowingly at Veronica’s terrible attempt at sounding casual. “No, we’re just friends.”
“Oh! Good. Then...do you mind putting in a good word for me? I’ve had every flavor of boy except orange.”
A year ago, the thought of competing with a girl like Veronica Lodge for Archie’s affections would’ve sent her into a tailspin, but after Cheryl had cornered her in a Vixen initiation to grab her childhood crush by the reins and pull him into a closet at one of her parties, reality had caught up with her.
It’d been fumbling and awkward and they both agreed it hadn’t felt right. Archie had been a fantasy, and she needed to treat him like a person.
So Betty says sure, and invites Veronica to lunch later, where Archie will inevitably appear.
“Making plans without me?” A voice from behind a locker sounds, and a moment later, Kevin Keller’s head appears. He takes in Veronica’s Birkin bag with wide eyes.
“Kevin, this is Veronica Lodge; she just moved here from New York. And this is Jughead Jones. He transferred from Southside,” she adds, gesturing behind her.
“Nice to meet you,” Kevin says, shaking the elegant hand that Veronica once again offers. He looks interested. “Lodge? Is it true what they—”
Betty’s eyes widen warningly, and luckily, Kevin seems to catch himself. But it’s too late. Veronica pinches her lips together, her mood visibly darkening. Awkwardly, Kevin pivots to Jughead, his lips pulled back in an uncomfortable smile. “Uh, hi Jughead.”
Jughead nods once. “Keller,” he greets coolly in return.
Kevin’s attempt at a smile drops and he stares at him, unblinking, as if he’s just smelled something foul. Betty frowns; she hadn’t given Kevin’s full name. She shoots Kevin a questioning look, but his nostrils flare in response, in the way they only do when he’s suppressing a thought.
“Right,” Kevin says curtly, turning back to the girls. “Well, I should go. Betty, Veronica, see you at lunch?” His eyes flash, but without waiting for her reply, he marches off. Betty stares at the back of him; it’s unlike Kevin to have resisted the urge to needle for gossip, and Veronica is a walking headline.
She catches Jughead rolling his eyes, but before she can investigate the thought further, Veronica is clearing her throat and crossing her arms. “Does everyone know? About my father?”
“Yeah,” Jughead replies dryly, even though the question clearly wasn’t directed at him. “Even I know about the dark dealings of one Talented Mr. Lodge.”
Veronica’s arms drop to her sides indignantly. “Okay, who even are you?”
Jughead releases a long-suffering sigh. “Listen, Holly Golightly, I’m not the one you need to worry about.” He nods at Betty. “Thanks for the tour. I think I can find my way from here. See you around.” And with that, he sweeps off in the opposite direction of Kevin.
“What the hell was that?” Veronica scoffs. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I’m sure it was nothing,” Betty says, reluctantly pulling her eyes away from the corner he’s just disappeared around.
“Well, I don’t have the time for the pedestrian melodrama of a wannabe greaser, anyway,” Veronica says primly. A composed smile tugs at her lips, and she links her arm with Betty’s. “So. Tell me more about this Archie.”
.
.
.
After dropping Veronica off at her first class, Betty heads for the English wing, where the offices for the school newspaper are situated. She could go to her own class, but having signed up to give peer tours, she’s already been excused and she’d rather take the remaining 40 minutes of the period to start her first layout for the paper. She also has to boot up the ancient computers, dust off the shelves, and probably about a dozen other things.
The list is running rampant in her mind as she shoulders her way through the door, but once she takes her first step into the dimly lit room, her mind clears.
A yellow beam of warm light settles across the wall, specks of golden dust caught swirling aimlessly in the light. The room is musty, the scent of aged paper and wood rot hanging thickly in the air; yet, Betty finds the smell oddly comforting, like settling into an old armchair.
Betty flicks on the overhead light and sets to work. She sweeps the floor, runs a cloth along the dirty computer screens, and peaks into the old filing cabinets, coughing when that releases a stream of dust straight into her lungs. After about 15 minutes, the room is as about as clean as it’ll get with just a broom and rag, so she moves onto her outline.
She finds an old corkboard resting behind one of the desks and heaves it out, leaning it against the wall. From her binder, she pulls the clipping she’d made this morning and the rest she’s been collecting all summer. After assembling the wall of headlines, she takes a moment to review it. Now that she’s seeing it all together, it feels obviously connected, though she’s not sure where to begin on how.
It feels more like something seen on TV than would exist in an actual investigation, but she can’t resist the urge to get some red string and start mapping the points of connection. The art room is just down the hall, so she decides to slip in and grab some red yarn from their supply closet.
When she returns, the room isn’t empty.
The dark-haired boy from earlier—Jughead, she thinks, not a name she’d easily forget—is standing in front of her corkboard, arms crossed. He must hear her enter, because he jumps, eyes wide when he turns around.
His cheeks are tinged, but he quickly schools his features. “Sorry,” he offers. “I was walking by and…the door was open.”
“It’s okay.” Betty steps up beside him, her eyes running over the headline with the largest typeface; 2 MOTORCYCLISTS DEAD AFTER HIT AND RUN glares back at her.
He gestures back to the corkboard. “What is this?”
“Oh,” Betty falters, her face now burning. “It’s…well, I’m not sure what it is yet.”
Jughead gives her a look that sits somewhere in between encouragement and skepticism, but nevertheless, it prompts her onward.
“Lately I’ve been feeling like…something’s going on in this town,” she says quietly, eyes on the floor. It feels liberating to say it out loud for the first time, clouded as it still all seems. “Something’s changed. Something people pretend they don’t see. All these overdoses, hit and runs, bricks going through windows…”
He holds her gaze for a long moment before drawing his lip between his teeth. “You think they’re connected?” He says, almost challengingly.
She nods. “I do. That’s why I’m starting up the school paper again. Someone needs to do something about it. Whatever’s going on, I want to know.”
“What if you don’t like what you find?” Jughead asks quietly.
Her eyes run over the clippings like headlights bending over the road. She exhales. “I suspect I won’t. But I’d rather know the truth.”
He hums something under his breath and twists away, meandering through the rest of the room. His eyes wander over the walls. He picks up a paperweight and juggles it between his hands, wearing a firmly impassive expression—but after a moment, Betty realizes he’s lingering.
“If you’re interested, you could…join the paper?” Betty ventures, clasping her hands together. “I’ve only talked to a couple of students so far, and I think we’ll be a small operation, though I haven’t heard back from the office about our final budget yet—”
“Betty,” he interrupts her rambling with a silencing hand. “It is Betty, right?” She nods. His tongue is digging into his cheek in a poor attempt to stave off his amusement. “Thanks for the offer, but extracurriculars aren’t really my thing.”
She takes a breath and decides to chance a curiosity. “Jughead, why did you transfer from Southside?”
“I’m protesting the last few vestiges left from my lack of legal agency,” he says. “My dad made me,” he adds, at her look.
“Let me guess, Southside wasn’t challenging you enough academically?” Jughead looks surprised. “No offense,” she clarifies quickly. “But…objectively, Riverdale does have a stronger letter grade. Joining the Blue & Gold would be a great way to pad your college applications.”
He finds a spot on the floor to stare at, and she wonders if she’d misread offense for embarrassment. After a moment, he looks back at the wall of newspaper clippings thoughtfully.
“Like I said, it’s just not my thing,” he says with a shrug.
Betty opens her mouth, though she’s not sure to say what, but the bell suddenly tolls loudly between them. Jughead shoots her one last studying look, and then slips away without another word.
.
.
.
“Betty! I’ve been looking all over for—oh, hi Veronica,” Archie practically throws himself onto the bench, his books making a loud thud as he unceremoniously drops them on the lunch table. Once he notices Veronica, however, he’s all smiles. “It’s nice to see you again. How are you doing?”
For her part, Betty notices Veronica sit up straighter. “Hello Archie,” she demurs.
Betty’s eyes flit between the two for a long moment before clearing her throat, abandoning the premise for subtlety.
“Oh, right,” Archie says, shaking his head slightly. “Betty, did you give a tour to a new guy this morning? Dark hair, kind of…frowny?”
Betty nods, taking a long sip from her orange juice. Next to Archie, Kevin makes an almost indiscernible noise, but otherwise keeps his attention on his twitter feed. She narrows her eyes at him, filing the moment away for later. She turns back to Archie. “Do you know him?”
He opens his mouth once, then closes it. “Kind of. Why? Did he say something?”
Veronica laughs melodiously. “He said about three words, two of which were cryptic threats, and then sulked off like some off-brand prince of darkness.”
Archie turns to Betty for confirmation; she shrugs. “I mean, well, yeah. That’s one way of putting it.”
“Well, what’s he doing here?” Archie Andrews has always been known for two things: an inability to lie successfully, and a complete and utter lack of tact.
“School? He transferred from Southside.”
Archie still looks dumbfounded, or perhaps a little unsettled, but drops the matter. The conversation turns to football tryouts for Archie, which seems to impress Veronica, and the school play Kevin gets to direct this semester.
“I mean, Wicked, of course, is amazing, but Spring Awakening is so powerful,” Kevin is saying.
Veronica nods seriously. “When I saw Spring Awakening last year in New York, it took my breath away. A tale of tragic love lost to conservative social pressures of the time. Could it be more current? Still, it’s a far more scandalous choice for a suburban high school production. There could be backlash.”
“Do Wicked then,” Archie chimes in, though he clearly has no idea what either of the plays are about “It’s a safe bet.”
“Betty, thoughts?”
She shakes her head to clear her mind, blinking the moment away. “Sorry? Oh, plays. Do Spring Awakening. Who cares about backlash? I think this town could use a little honesty.”
Kevin looks suspicious, but impressed. “Betty Cooper, taking no prisoners,” he muses.
She opens her mouth to say something that will inevitably take her those two steps back, but a curtain of red hair falling over her eyes interrupts her.
“Riddle me this,” Cheryl Blossom snaps, slapping her hand down in front of Betty. “Two blondes, two phones, zero calls. Have the Coopers sunk so beyond middle class that your parents can no longer afford a family phone plan?”
“What’s wrong, Cheryl?” Betty sighs, giving herself a moment to compose herself before meeting Cheryl’s eyes, which are positively livid.
“What’s wrong is that your jezebel sister won’t pick up her phone, I can’t find her anywhere, and I’ve been texting you all morning about drawing up the new routines. We have tryouts today, Betty,” Cheryl reminds her coldly.
Betty quietly exchanges an exasperated look with Kevin and digs her fingers into her palm. The prick of pain instantly brings her heart rate down.
“Cheryl, the printouts have been ready for days and they’re in my locker now. Polly is sick with mono, and I don’t know why she didn’t tell you that. I know she’s sorry to miss tryouts.”
“She’s my second in command, she can’t miss tryouts,” Cheryl hisses.
"I'm sorry," Betty mumbles.
Cheryl inhales sharply, then, spotting Veronica, her edges smooth out almost instantaneously. “Speaking of which. Veronica Lodge, right? I’ve heard whisperings. I’m Cheryl Blossom.”
Veronica tucks a few fingers under her chin, appraising Cheryl. “Pleasure.”
“Well, Veronica, let me formally invite you to try out for the River Vixens. You absolutely must.”
“At Spence I was at the top of the food chain,” Veronica says with a lift of one shoulder. “So, I’m in.”
“Lovely,” Cheryl intones, though her smile doesn’t quite meet her eyes. “Betty here can give you all the details. And, Betty, darling,” she adds, “answer your phone when I text you. You’re already on very thin ice. And tell Polly to call me. Immediately. I don’t care if she has the bubonic plague, I need to talk to her.”
With a swish of her hair, Cheryl storms off. The instant she’s out of earshot, Archie mumbles, “Man, she’s scary.”
“And that was Cheryl-lite,” Kevin says, though frankly, Betty thinks he’s got the excited look in his eye that he only gets when he’s watching someone on Survivor get voted off.
“I’ve seen worse.” Veronica hums; an odd pinch is nestled between her eyebrows. “Betty, you didn’t tell me you were a cheerleader!”
Betty scoffs. “I’m barely one. I only got to be on the squad because my sister Polly is dating Cheryl’s brother. I’m basically Cheryl’s intern.”
“Seriously,” Kevin agrees. “You draw up all the routines, book their practice times, make sure she’s supplied with a kale smoothie before a game…”
“Oh my god, why?” Veronica blurts out. “I mean, no offense, but come on. Betty. Cruel and unusual punishment is outlawed in the greater 50 states for a reason.”
“It’ll look really good on my college applications, alright?” Betty frowns, feeling like Veronica is being awfully presumptuous for a person she’s just met. Even Kevin has little right to be indignant on her behalf when he’s ready to get the popcorn out every time Cheryl walks by. “It’s not a big deal.”
It’s not a big deal. With her plans to restart the Blue & Gold newspaper, it’ll be a little tougher to balance things, but she’ll manage. She always does.
She runs one finger along the crescent moons hidden away in her palm.
.
.
.
After school, Betty crosses paths with Jughead on his way to the parking lot. She’s changed into her Vixen uniform for tryouts, and the look he gives her is halfway between amused and something else entirely. “You’re a cheerleader. Why am I not surprised?” He says, running his eyes up and down her figure.
Betty cocks her neck. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He raises an eyebrow. “Well, the perky blonde with a ponytail. It’s all very Sandra Dee, isn’t it?”
“Stones and glass houses, Danny Zuko,” she mutters, staring at his motorcycle jacket. He follows her line of sight and chuckles.
She hadn’t meant it to sound flirtatious, but it’s hard not to when comparing themselves to an iconic film couple. She flushes, and thinks the tips of his ears might’ve gone red too, but he’s suddenly found something more interesting to stare at over his shoulder.
“Um, listen. I thought about your offer. What…exactly would being on the paper entail?”
“You seem like the kind of person who’s read In Cold Blood,” Betty guesses, and at the way his lips twitch, she assumes she’s correct. “Well, the book started as a series of articles, right? I’m hoping to get some people to follow that vein. Investigate. Report.”
“Would I have complete creative freedom?” He asks, in a tone that suggests that he already knows the answer.
“Well…I’d edit,” she says, with controlled innocence. “And help, and give you feedback.”
“Right,” he chuckles. “You’re not a very good liar, blondie, but…I’m in.”
She clasps her hands together under her chin. “Yay! You won’t regret it.”
“In my experience, that phrase usually bodes for the opposite,” he sighs, looking halfheartedly resigned.
They make plans to meet in the Blue & Gold office later in the week to start mapping out their first issue before parting ways; she watches him cut across the parking lot and head straight for a dark motorcycle. She raises her eyebrows to herself; she’d been wondering if the leather jacket had just been for show.
“Jughead!” She yells, and he glances back. “Why’d you change your mind?”
“You’re not the only one looking for answers,” he calls, swinging a long leg over his bike. He disappears behind a black helmet. And then he’s gone.

Hi! Could you maybe write some cute jughead and archie at a school dance like a semi formal like in the first episode or a homecoming dance or prom or something? And just have them using that as the way they tell people that they're together?
Hope this is ok!!

Thelast few weeks had been the happiest of Archie’s life. He was back being bestfriends with Betty, who was happily dating Veronica, he was playing football onthe weekends, he’d found a music teacher who wasn’t Ms. Grundy and he was ableto help his dad out almost every day. On top of all that was Jughead. They’dbeen dating and Archie couldn’t believe that he’d manage to go through allthose months of summer without Jughead by his side. Every night they were ateach other’s house, watching movies, chatting or silently working. They hadsettled into the most comfortable reality that, six months previously, Archiewouldn’t have been able to imagine.
***
Theywere sat at a school assembly when, predictably, Cheryl Blossom announced thedate of the spring formal.
“If anyone suggests Floral as the theme, Iwill end you. Any other suggestions tweet them using the hashtagRiverdaleSpringFormal2017, thank you!” She flounced off the stage, ponytailbouncing behind her. Mr. Wheatherbee stood back up to continue hisannouncements, but the general hum of whispers around them made it prettyobvious that no one was listening. Veronica leaned over Betty to whisper toJughead and Archie.
“The four of us should totally take mymom’s car!” she said, before leaning back to Betty and excitedly whisperingabout dresses and colours. Archie glanced over at Jughead, who hadn’t reactedto the news of a dance at all. In fact, he seemed too casual. Normally Jugheadwould be full of sarcastic comments about the pointlessness of teenage dances, full of horny idiots dancing as inappropriately as they can with teachers stillpresent. He didn’t get the chance to ask if he was ok, however, because theassembly quickly let up and the bleachers quickly became too rowdy withstudents leaving to hold any hope of a conversation. When Archie made his wayout of the heavier part of the crowd, he couldn’t see Jughead anywhere. Knowingthat he’d be late for his dad if he waited too long, he opted instead to sendJughead a text.
“Had2 run 2 dads – we still on 4 2nite?”
A few seconds later, he got a simple textback.
“Seeyou then”.
***
WhenJughead arrived, he was carrying a bag of food from Pop’s and the Back to theFuture trilogy on DVD. His grin was back to normal and Archie almost forgot theweirdness of earlier. They both settled on to Archie’s bed and began on thefood as Marty McFly was woken up by his ridiculously complicated alarm. Nothingwas out of the ordinary, with Jughead making comments on his favourite bits orlittle pieces of trivia, while Archie laughed too hard at most of the jokes, until the final scenes of the movie. When Marty and his mom walked into theEnchantment Under The Sea dance, Jughead went noticeably quite, for the secondtime that day. Again, Archie was worried. And so, rather than let it go, heleant over and paused the film.
“What’s up?” he asked Jughead, whose headwas leaning on his chest.
“Nothing,” Jughead replied. “Why wouldsomething be up?”
“You got weird earlier about the dance, andnow again?”
“Ah, right,” said Jughead. There was a fewmoments of silence before he continued. “I guess I just know that you like thatkind of thing, and wasn’t sure if you wanted to go, or if you’d be bringing adate, or whatever.” Archie grinned. Jughead appeared confident and that wasbecause, in most cases, he was. When it came to their relationship, however, itwas a different story.
“I would want to go,” said Archie, “If, andonly if, a certain guy I know would want to go with me.”
“You can’t see me, but I just rolled myeyes at you,” Jughead said. “You don’t mind your football friends seeing you gowith me?”“Moose will probably go with Kevin,” Archie argued, “and Reggie can get overhimself. I don’t want to go to some overly cheesy event unless you’re with me.”When Jughead elbowed him in the side, Archie only laughed.
“Just play the fucking movie.”
***
When the day of the formal arrived, Jugheadand Archie did indeed get a ride with Betty and Veronica. The theme had beenfinalized a few weeks before and when they arrived, the gym had a huge bannerover the door with the words “Happily Ever After” on it in the classic Disneyfont. The hall itself was decorated with hearts and castles, silhouettes androses, clearly trying to capture the Disney magic.
“It looks like Mickey Mouse vomited inhere,” was Jughead’s comment. Betty and Veronica rolled their eyes. Betty, undoubtedly, had convinced Veronica that sticking to theme was important, andboth were wearing dresses that had a throwback to Classic Disney – Betty’s thecolour of Aurora, and Veronica’s the colour of Cinderella. Archie and Jughead, however, had both opted for simple jackets and trousers, and dark shirts.Veronica had been horrified to see that Jughead was wearing his hat, butJughead had argued that it was thematically relevant. (“It’s a crown. I’m beinga Disney Prince!”)
“Nice one Archie, which is your date!”Reggie sauntered over, throwing his arm around Archie’s shoulders and gesturingat Veronica and Betty.
“This one!” said Archie, putting his ownarm around Jughead’s waist. Reggie frowned and dropped his arm.
“What the fuck, man?” he said. “Is everyoneon this team gay?”
“Cheerleaders too!” exclaimed Veronica, pulling Betty in for a kiss. When they separated, Betty was visibly pink.Reggie however, spluttered.
“Jesus Christ, what’s a guy gotta do tofind a girl around here?” he said, and Veronica waved.
“You could leave!” she said, taking Betty’shand and pulling her over to the drinks table, throwing a quick “Goodbye, boys!” over her shoulder as she left. Reggie stood there for a second, beforeevidently deciding that his time would be better spent somewhere else andturning on his heels and leaving without another word.
“See?” Archie said, turning to Jughead.“Easy!” Jughead rolled his eyes.
“Whatever, Archibald,” he said, but smilednonetheless.
“Now, can I ask for a dance from my Prince?”he joking went down on one knee and Jughead quickly pulled him back up.“Only if you never call me that ever again,” he said, before wrapping his armsaround Archie’s neck. The two swayed for the rest of the song, something slowthat was being sung by Josie and the Pussycats.
“I hope your first dance isn’t going toobadly,” Archie said, when the song was nearing its end.
“I can think of worse ways to spend anevening,” Jughead said. “Also better ways. But it’s not too awful. Except for thedecorations. Those are atrocious.” Archie laughed.
“Cheryl’s in charge, you gotta expect it,”he said smiling.
“Whatever, you’re buying me a whole bunchof burgers for subjecting me to that torture.”
“Anytime.”
