This week's #StupidAccordionTrick celebrates a regular gig the @creakingplanks had for many years at the now-defunct Wooden Boat Festival. From 1970, it's #TimBuckley's #SongToTheSiren:
The New Yorker ran a nice piece last week about @bbc Radio 4 "Soul Music" show, including some nice words about our episode on "Song to the Siren."

I was nominated by Pedro Lima to share 10 album covers in 10 days. These are albums that have shaped my life in some way. Here is Day 7 This Mortal Coil - “It’ll End In Tears” Once again my fathers music influence comes up and I show you one of my favorite! Amazing band, amazing voice of Elizabeth Fraser “the voice of God” also known to sing with Cocteau Twins and Massive Attack (listen to “Teardrop”!!) This album as one of the most amazing songs - “Song to the Siren” that in 2009 was brilliantly reshaped by another of my favorite singers - John Frusciante #musiclover #thismortalcoil #tillendintears #songtothesiren #elizabethfraser #johnfrusciante #itsnotallaboutwine #mocodosvinhos #moçodosvinhos (at Lisbon, Portugal)
Tim Buckley - Song To The Siren I've wanted more of a focus for my art for a while now so I thought why not combine that with my passion for music. I plan to create artwork that visualises my favourite songs. It's the feeling and colours that enter my mind when I listen to the song that will define how each piece will turn out. Starting with Tim Buckley's masterpiece 'Song To The Siren', which is undeniably blue. . . . #timbuckley #songtothesiren #posterdesign #affinityphoto #affinitydesigner @affinitybyserif #albumart #graphicdesign #posteroftheday #365posters #abstractart #abstract #digitalabstract #digitalart #glitchart #glitchaesthetic #lincolnuk (at Lincoln, Lincolnshire) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHLAqJRhuAc/?igshid=1u4klv9wwo0nx

Imagen inspirada por la versión de "Song to the siren" cantada por Elizabeth Fraser, para álbum "It'll end in tears" del proyecto musical llamado This Mortal Coil. Aquí la letra: Long afloat on shipless oceans I did all my best to smile 'Til your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving to your isle And you sang Sail to me Sail to me Let me enfold you Here I am Here I am Waiting to hold you Did I dream you dreamed about me? Were you here when I was forced out Now my foolish boat is leaning Broken lovelorn on your rocks For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow Oh my heart, Oh my heart shies from the sorrow" Well I'm as puzzled as the newborn child I'm as riddled as the tide Should I stand amid the breakers? Or should I lie with death, my bride? Hear me sing, "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you" . . . . #photocollage #digitalcollage #contemporarycollage #surreal #surrealcollage #digitalcollageart #collageart #collage_art #collagemaker #collagework #editorialcollage #collagecommunity #collageartist #surrealismo #siren #mermaid #sirena #songtothesiren #surrealart #cutandpaste #collageartwork #modernart #collageartistoninstagram #collageoftheday #collagecollectiveco #wowtiful #wowtifulcreations #mujeresquecortanypegan (en Wowtiful) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7RHifigw8D/?igshid=1c7j0vtwqx07d
Larry was featured on the BBC4 radio program Soul Music earlier today. In this 30-minute show, he and others spoke about the modern standard, Song to the Siren, written in 1967 with Tim Buckley. Missed it? No worries, the show is available for download at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00127bz
This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren (Official Video)
An achingly beautiful song. The original version is by Tim Buckley which I highly recommend as well. I happened to hear this one first though and it won me over instantly. That voice just melts and the soft echoing strums of that guitar, this gentle guide. As if something lost in isolation and once happened upon in its solitude it fills you with the very same feeling of aloneness that’s possessed since some forgotten and irrelevant time.
“These days Father Tim tends to be eclipsed by the magically raw talents and tragically short life of Son Jeff. Tim Buckley was the angelically-voiced icon of the alternative folk rock scene in the late 60s/early 70s. Until he too died tragically young from an accidental heroin overdose at the ridiculously young age of 28. Incredible that he recorded and released nine studio albums in only eight years as professional musician. . He was not just a folk troubadour, he was an originator, always pushing himself and the degree of his creative development in such a short time is noticeable on this comp. Drama and depth is self-evident on the moody Pleasant Street with its descending piano intro; the epic Goodbye and Hello; and the jazzy gently swinging chords inspired (or shall we say ‘lifted’) from Miles Davis Kind of Blue on Strange Feelin’...” .
